Vždycky mě fascinovalo ticho a klid starých hřbitovů. Mlha, vznášející se nad hroby i stromy, ševelící ve větru. Sedával jsem úplně vzadu, abych nerušil pochmurnou atmosféru. Zůstával jsem dlouho do večera, kdy už bylo dávno zavřeno. Naslouchal jsem šepotu nemrtvých a čekal, až se úplně probudí. Chladná márnice vydala další ze svých děsivých svědectví. Finští tmáři HOODED MENACE jsou po čtyřech letech zpět, aby nám přinesli další zprávy z onoho světa.

Zasvěcení moc dobře vědí, že mám dlouhodobě pro tuhle smečku slabost (důkazem budiž recenze i rozhovor, které jsou odkazovány dole pod dnešním článkem). Líbí se mi jejich rukopis, originální krvavý otisk, který po jejich hudbě pokaždé zůstává. Tajemno, uhrančivé nálady starých pohřebišť. Pamatujete promítání šustících VHS kazet? Horory plné krve a utrpení. Nedokonalé záběry byly velmi uvěřitelné, opravdové, reálné, syrové a autentické, stejně jako nové album těchto démonů temnoty. 


Letos mi přijdou Finové melodičtější, vzdušnější, chladnější a epičtější. Osobně tento lehký posun v rámci doom death metalového zákona (s heavy metalovým otiskem) kvituji. I u nás pomalu nastává podzim a listí žloutne. Je sychravo, pošmourno, chlad nám zalézá do kostí a zůstává tam. Stejně jako nová nahrávka "Lachrymose Monuments of Obscuration". Svět je při poslechu opravdu zahalený do krvavé mlhy, nálady jsou depresivní a každým dalším poslechem novinka roste. Stále objevuji nové a nové nápady, pasáže, nahrubo naseknou tmu a motivy, které ve mě vyvolávají šílené noční můry. Neexistuje už žádná naděje, černé mraky jsou nízko, skoro se dotýkají země. Určitě znáte ty napjaté chvíle před bouřkou. Jakoby se nadále rozšiřovaly řady nemrtvých, kteří se chtějí vrátit na světlo, aby se přišli pomstít za všechna příkoří, která na nich byla spáchána. Novinka je nejen velmi návyková, ale má také perfektně ošetřený zvuk (Heikki Marttila - recording, mixing, Jaime Gómez Arellano - mastering). O krásně morbidním a tajemném obalu netřeba diskutovat (autorem je Wes Benscoter), už teď vím, že jej musím mít na triku. Po formální stránce je opravdu vše v nejlepším pořádku. Vy se tak můžete v klidu soustředit na jednotlivé nápady, užívat si pochmurnou náladu. Vždycky mě fascinoval les, pomalu se ukládající k zimnímu spánku. Jeho syrovost, záhady, ale i krutost a bolest ohlodaná na kost. S novým albem to mám nastavené stejně. Opravdu si jej užívám. Nejvíce ve chvílích, když se ztratím mezi stromy a ocitnu se na starém pohřebišti. Vždycky mě fascinovalo ticho a klid starých hřbitovů. Mlha, vznášející se nad hroby i stromy, ševelící ve větru. Sedával jsem úplně vzadu, abych nerušil pochmurnou atmosféru. Zůstával jsem dlouho do večera, kdy už bylo dávno zavřeno. Naslouchal jsem šepotu nemrtvých a čekal, až se úplně probudí. Chladná márnice vydala další ze svých děsivých svědectví. Ano, jsem zde správně. Tahle nahrávka drásá zevnitř. Pochmurná, temná a chladná doom death metalová panychida! Děsivé přízraky znovu ožívají!

I have always been fascinated by the silence and tranquility of old cemeteries. Fog hovering over graves and trees, rustling in the wind. I would sit at the very back so as not to disturb the gloomy atmosphere. I would stay long into the evening, long after closing time. I would listen to the whispers of the undead and wait for them to wake up completely. The cold morgue has released another of its terrifying testimonies. Finnish dark masters HOODED MENACE are back after four years to bring us more news from that world.

Those in the know are well aware that I have a long-standing soft spot for this band (as evidenced by the review and interview linked below today's article). I like their style, the original bloody imprint that their music always leaves behind. The mystery, the haunting mood of old graveyards. Do you remember watching scratchy VHS tapes? Horror movies full of blood and suffering. The imperfect shots were very believable, real, raw, and authentic, just like the new album from these demons of darkness. 


This year, the Finns seem more melodic, airier, colder, and more epic to me. Personally, I welcome this slight shift within the framework of doom death metal (with a heavy metal imprint). Autumn is slowly arriving here too, and the leaves are turning yellow. It's damp and gloomy, the cold creeps into our bones and stays there. Just like the new album "Lachrymose Monuments of Obscuration". When listening to it, the world is truly shrouded in a bloody fog, the mood is depressing, and with each listen, the new album grows on you. I keep discovering new ideas, passages, roughly chopped darkness, and motifs that give me crazy nightmares. There is no hope left, the black clouds are low, almost touching the ground. You surely know those tense moments before a storm. It's as if the ranks of the undead are expanding, wanting to return to the light to take revenge for all the injustices committed against them. The new album is not only highly addictive, but also has perfectly crafted sound (Heikki Marttila - recording, mixing, Jaime Gómez Arellano - mastering). The beautifully morbid and mysterious cover art (by Wes Benscoter) needs no discussion; I already know I have to have it on a T-shirt. Formally speaking, everything is in perfect order. You can calmly focus on individual ideas and enjoy the gloomy mood. I have always been fascinated by the forest slowly settling into hibernation. Its rawness, mysteries, but also cruelty and pain gnawed to the bone. I feel the same way about the new album. I really enjoy it. Most of all when I get lost among the trees and find myself in an old burial ground. I have always been fascinated by the silence and tranquility of old cemeteries. The fog hovering over the graves and trees, rustling in the wind. I used to sit at the very back so as not to disturb the gloomy atmosphere. I stayed long into the evening, long after it had closed. I listened to the whispers of the undead and waited for them to wake up completely. The cold morgue has released another of its terrifying testimonies. Yes, I am in the right place. This recording is heart-wrenching. A gloomy, dark, and cold doom death metal requiem! Terrifying ghosts come back to life!

Na jedné ze svých toulek jsem se ocitl v hnisavé stoce pod naším městem. Sledoval jsem kalnou a špinavou vodu, kusy rozkládajících se těl, naslouchal jsem pištění rozzuřených krys. Tady, v místech, ve kterých sídlí démoni, v oblasti, která je pochmurná, chladná a temná, vynikl poslech debutového alba australských tmářů REEKMIND nejvíce. Jakoby se hudba prolínala s okamžikem, byla nasáklá chladem a temnotou. Mezi odpadem, s bolestí ve tváři, jsem znovu a znovu zapínal play.

Kapela hraje klasický death metal, ušpiněný sludge prvky a samozřejmě jej kombinuje i s doom metalem. Výsledný koktejl je velmi jedovatý, návykový a když jej ochutnáte, ocitnete se stejně jako já na pěkně temných a podivných místech. Novinka má v sobě cosi neklidného, zvláštního, neotřelého, co mě přitahuje a nutí k dalším poslechům. Koneckonců, jinak bych o téhle kapele ani nepsal. Nové album mě opravdu zaujalo. Protože je opravdové, reálné, uvěřitelné. Protože smrdí, jako stoka pod naším městem. 


Proti zvuku ani produkci nemám žádných námitek, snad jen malou připomínku - mohl by být možná trošku špinavější, chladnější. Berte to ale jenom jako připomínku starého psa. Jinak se mi líbí obal, celkové provedení. Ale hlavně hudba, která mě zcela pohltila. Chodil jsem se sluchátky na uších, sledoval to marné lidské snažení, honbu za majetkem a penězi. Jakoby nevěděli, že jednou stejně nakonec všichni zemřeme a rozplyneme se v nicotě. REEKMIND umí napsat a složit velmi dobré skladby, které mě chytnou, zaseknou do mě dráp a už mě nepustí. Nejvíc se mi ale líbí atmosféra celé nahrávky, která je náležitě pochmurná, zahalená do krvavé mlhy. Mám to nastavené tak, že si pokaždé, když objevím novou kapelu, sednu a nechám jejich hudbu jen tak působit. Potom si ji vezmu někam ven a když mě baví, tak o ní napíšu pár řádek. V "Mired in the Reek of Grief" je ale ještě něco navíc, jakási morbidní přitažlivost, kusy nahrubo nasekané tmy, zlo, které spalo v tichosti pod povrchem a najednou vyvřelo ven jako láva. Mrzí mě jen jediné, rád bych viděl kapelu naživo. Troufám si tvrdit, že na koncertě musí skladby vyniknout ještě více. Vše je zde reálné, opravdové, uvěřitelné, autentické. Pro mě osobně jsou to hodně důležité věci a tak mi nezbývá nic jiného, než vám nové album doporučit. Na jedné ze svých toulek jsem se ocitl v hnisavé stoce pod naším městem. Sledoval jsem kalnou a špinavou vodu, kusy rozkládajících se těl, naslouchal jsem pištění rozzuřených krys. Tady, v místech, ve kterých sídlí démoni, v oblasti, která je pochmurná, chladná a temná, vynikl poslech debutového alba australských tmářů REEKMIND nejvíce. Teď to již mohu potvrdit na sto procent a podepsat vlastní krví. Doom death sludgeové album, které se vám dostane až do morku kostí! Pach rozkládajících se těl ve stoce pod vaším městem!

On one of my wanderings, I found myself in a festering sewer under our city. I watched the murky and dirty water, pieces of decomposing bodies, I listened to the squealing of enraged rats. Here, in the places where demons reside, in an area that is gloomy, cold and dark, listening to the debut album of Australian darklings REEKMIND stood out the most. As if the music blended with the moment, it was soaked in cold and darkness. Among the garbage, with pain in my face, I turned on play again and again.

The band plays classic death metal, dirty sludge elements and of course combines it with doom metal. The resulting cocktail is very poisonous, addictive and when you taste it, you will find yourself in pretty dark and strange places, just like me. The new album has something uneasy, strange, fresh in it, which attracts me and forces me to listen to it again. After all, otherwise I wouldn't even be writing about this band. The new album really intrigued me. Because it's genuine, real, believable. Because it stinks, like the sewer under our city.


I have no objections to the sound or production, perhaps just a small comment - it could be a little dirtier, colder. But just take it as a reminder of an old dog. Otherwise, I like the cover, the overall performance. But mainly the music, which completely absorbed me. I walked around with headphones on, watching the futile human efforts, the pursuit of property and money. As if they didn't know that one day we will all die and disappear into nothingness. REEKMIND can write and compose very good songs that grab me, stick their claws into me and won't let me go. But what I like most is the atmosphere of the entire record, which is appropriately gloomy, shrouded in a bloody fog. I have it set up so that every time I discover a new band, I sit down and just let their music have an effect. Then I take it out somewhere and when I enjoy it, I write a few lines about it. But there is something more in "Mired in the Reek of Grief", a kind of morbid attraction, pieces of roughly chopped darkness, evil that slept quietly under the surface and suddenly erupted like lava. My only regret is that I would like to see the band live. I dare say that the songs must stand out even more at the concert. Everything here is real, genuine, believable, authentic. For me personally, these are very important things and so I have no choice but to recommend the new album to you. On one of my wanderings, I found myself in a festering sewer under our city. Interview - ORDEALS - Dark and cold, black death metal soaked in ancient diseases that will pull you into the depths!


Interview with black death metal band from United States - ORDEALS.


Ave ORDEALS! On September 26, 2025, your first full-length album “Third Rail Prayer” will be released by Eternal Death. As the title suggests, it is a whirlwind of honest black, death metal. When you left the studio, how did you feel? Please introduce the new album to the fans. Where did you want to move from your previous recordings?

Well, THIRD RAIL PRAYER is an expression of who and where ORDEALS are at the time, our attempt to draw out the dark energies of our surroundings and experiences. We blend our present with the ancient past that inspires us. After being a two piece for almost a decade, we have welcomed a new permanent member to our fold, Bellum, in 2020, who was with us the entire time we composed THIRD RAIL PRAYER. Of course we were satisfied with our work when it was completed on those apocalyptic winter days in Montreal at Studio Tehom.

You are a band made up of experienced musicians who play mostly death metal. How did ORDEALS actually come into being? I’m guessing a good pub and lots of beer. Who first came up with the idea of playing death/black metal? Please take us through the history of your band.

ORDEALS was formed simply from a desire to create. At the early stages there really was not alot of talk about what style we should play. Everything just flowed organically. The 2011- 2015 period was very slow, but in '16 we recorded our EP APOTHEOSIS and were fairly active from that point on, until 2020 when the world came to a standstill for a while. We try to stray away from sounding too much like anyone else.


I admit that your new album has me on my ass. I really like that you are not only orthodox and genuine, but you don’t forget about cold and dark melodies. Who is the author of the music and how do they compose and create new ORDEALS songs?

Illuminated will write guitar and bass pieces, and then Bellum and myself will contribute songwriting ideas, and the three of us put it all together. Illuminated contributes sinister passages with an intense emphasis on dark sentiment and striking melodic flashes from which we develop our sound.

What really caught my attention about the new album is the very raw and “dusty” sound. Where did you record the album, mix it, who is responsible for the production?

The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at STUDIO TEHOM in Montreal. Xavier Berthiaume is a longtime collaborator and great comrade to ORDEALS, throughout the years. We also recorded APOTHEOSIS there, on which he played drums. We hope to continue to work with him in the future.


I was also intrigued by the album cover. If I understand it correctly, it shows an entrance to the underworld, to an old mine. The cover is mysterious and fits the music perfectly. What is this theme supposed to express? The author is the great Santiago Caruso. How did you get together and why him?

It is desolation and Death portrayed in the endless dark of the subway tunnels beneath where we live in New York City. We chose Santiago Caruso because based on his skill and prior work, we believed he would be able to achieve this vision to our satisfaction. It perfectly sums up the atmosphere we want to present.

As a band, your lyrics deal with dark fantasy, suffering, death. What are they about on the new record? What is the main theme and idea of “Third Rail Prayer”?

The lyrics have root in personal experiences, and trying to pull things from my reality and memories and mix it with other sinister things that I am inspired by, that practically forces its way out onto the page. There are themes of necromancy and exploration "There are other worlds than these" Beyond this, I would prefer people get the album and make their own interpretations, from reading the lyrics and absorbing the imagery, rather than to go into too much specific details. The booklet for the album contains all one needs to get lost in this suffering between nothing and nothing, and the cover is what we really have to say to lure souls into the dark.


How are you doing with concerts? Do you like playing often and often? And do you prefer big festivals or small clubs? And what about promoting the new album, are you planning a tour?

The immediate goal is to be active with some live gigs to spread the album and its message, like the plague. We have just done 12 concerts so far, but a lot of them have been festivals away from home. Whether it is a large festival or a small club, they both have their benefits or drawbacks, but it's the energy of the audience that really matters. During the winter solstice in 2022, we played in Iceland for the Andkristni festival. It is the first time we left our continent and even though it was a small club, it was a highlight for our history. We hail our comrades there, and some from that scene have contributed some guest vocals on THIRD RAIL PRAYER as you will see. We will start our promotion of the album at the Covenant Festival in Vancouver in late Sept.


An essential question that must never be missed. What are ORDEALS planning in the coming months? If you have something on your mind and would like to express it to fans, labels, promoters, here's the space...

As mentioned above, we will play in Vancouver later this month, and we have plans to cross the seas and spread the Word. We are also writing new material, and we will try not to take too many years to put it out this time.

Ave ORDEALS! 26. září 2025 vyjde vaše první plnohodnotné album „Third Rail Prayer“ u vydavatelství Eternal Death. Jak název napovídá, jedná se o smršť upřímného black/death metalu. Jak jste se cítili, když jste opustili studio? Představte prosím fanouškům nové album. Od čeho jste se chtěli odklonit oproti předchozím nahrávkám?

No, THIRD RAIL PRAYER je vyjádřením toho, kdo a kde ORDEALS v danou chvíli jsou, naším pokusem vytáhnout temné energie našeho okolí a zkušeností. Spojujeme naši současnost s dávnou minulostí, která nás inspiruje. Po téměř deseti letech, kdy jsme byli dvojčlennou kapelou, jsme v roce 2020 přivítali nového stálého člena, Belluma, který s námi byl po celou dobu, kdy jsme skládali THIRD RAIL PRAYER. Samozřejmě jsme byli s naší prací spokojeni, když byla dokončena v těch apokalyptických zimních dnech v Montrealu ve studiu Tehom.

Jste kapela složená ze zkušených muzikantů, kteří hrají převážně death metal. Jak vlastně ORDEALS vznikli? Hádám, že v dobré hospodě a nad spoustou piva. Kdo jako první přišel s nápadem hrát death/black metal? Prosím, proveďte nás historií vaší kapely.

ORDEALS vznikli jednoduše z touhy tvořit. V počátečních fázích se opravdu moc nemluvilo o tom, jaký styl bychom měli hrát. Všechno se vyvíjelo přirozeně. Období 2011–2015 bylo velmi pomalé, ale v roce 2016 jsme nahráli naše EP APOTHEOSIS a od té doby jsme byli poměrně aktivní, až do roku 2020, kdy se svět na chvíli zastavil. Snažíme se vyhýbat tomu, abychom zněli příliš jako někdo jiný.


Přiznávám, že vaše nové album mě dostalo. Moc se mi líbí, že nejste jen ortodoxní a autentičtí, ale nezapomínáte ani na chladné a temné melodie. Kdo je autorem hudby a jak skládají a tvoří nové skladby ORDEALS?

Illuminated píše kytarové a basové party, Bellum a já přispíváme nápady na skladby a my tři to pak dáváme dohromady. Illuminated přispívá zlověstnými pasážemi s intenzivním důrazem na temnou náladu a nápadnými melodickými záblesky, z nichž rozvíjíme náš zvuk.

Na novém albu mě opravdu zaujalo velmi syrové a „zaprášené“ zvukové zpracování. Kde jste album nahrávali, mixovali a kdo je zodpovědný za produkci?

Album bylo nahráno, smícháno a zmasterováno ve STUDIO TEHOM v Montrealu. Xavier Berthiaume je dlouholetým spolupracovníkem a skvělým kamarádem ORDEALS. Nahráli jsme tam také APOTHEOSIS, na kterém hrál na bicí. Doufáme, že s ním budeme spolupracovat i v budoucnu.


Zaujal mě také obal alba. Pokud tomu dobře rozumím, zobrazuje vstup do podsvětí, do starého dolu. Obal je tajemný a perfektně ladí s hudbou. Co má toto téma vyjadřovat? Autorem je skvělý Santiago Caruso. Jak jste se dali dohromady a proč právě on?

Je to zkáza a smrt zobrazená v nekonečné tmě tunelů metra pod místem, kde žijeme v New Yorku. Vybrali jsme Santiaga Carusa, protože na základě jeho schopností a předchozí práce jsme věřili, že bude schopen tuto vizi realizovat k naší spokojenosti. Dokonale vystihuje atmosféru, kterou chceme prezentovat.

Jako kapela se ve svých textech zabýváte temnou fantazií, utrpením, smrtí. O čem jsou texty na nové desce? Jaké je hlavní téma a myšlenka „Third Rail Prayer“?

Texty vycházejí z osobních zkušeností a snaží se čerpat z mé reality a vzpomínek a mísit je s jinými zlověstnými věcmi, které mě inspirují a které se prakticky samy tlačí na papír. Jsou zde témata nekromancie a zkoumání „Existují i jiné světy než tyto“. Kromě toho bych raději, aby si lidé album pořídili a vytvořili si vlastní interpretaci na základě čtení textů a vstřebávání obrazů, než abych se pouštěl do přílišných detailů. Booklet k albu obsahuje vše, co člověk potřebuje, aby se ztratil v tomto utrpení mezi ničím a ničím, a obal je to, co opravdu musíme říct, abychom nalákali duše do temnoty.


Jak to vypadá s koncerty? Hrajete rádi často? A dáváte přednost velkým festivalům nebo malým klubům? A co propagace nového alba, plánujete turné?

Bezprostředním cílem je být aktivní s několika živými koncerty, abychom šířili album a jeho poselství jako mor. Dosud jsme odehráli 12 koncertů, ale mnoho z nich bylo na festivalech daleko od domova. Ať už se jedná o velký festival nebo malý klub, oba mají své výhody i nevýhody, ale opravdu záleží na energii publika. Během zimního slunovratu v roce 2022 jsme hráli na Islandu na festivalu Andkristni. Bylo to poprvé, co jsme opustili náš kontinent, a i když to byl malý klub, byl to vrchol naší historie. Zdravíme naše kamarády tam a někteří z té scény přispěli hostujícími vokály na THIRD RAIL PRAYER, jak uvidíte. Propagaci alba zahájíme na konci září na festivalu Covenant ve Vancouveru.


Zásadní otázka, kterou nesmíme vynechat. Co ORDEALS plánují v následujících měsících? Pokud máte něco na srdci a chtěli byste to sdělit fanouškům, vydavatelstvím, promotérům, tady je prostor...

Jak již bylo zmíněno, koncem tohoto měsíce budeme hrát ve Vancouveru a máme v plánu překročit moře a šířit slovo. Také píšeme nový materiál a tentokrát se pokusíme, aby jeho vydání netrvalo příliš mnoho let.

Jsou chvíle, kdy chci být sám. Jenom já a muzika, jenom já a kniha, příroda a ticho. Reproduktory nasměrované do srdce, chlad a tma. Přemýšlím o životě, o smrti, o kamarádech, kteří mě opustili. Chodívali jsme spolu do hospody a naše nekonečné diskuze o hudbě mi hrozně chybí. Zbyl jsem tu sám. Snažím se dál hrdě nést vlajku vztyčenou. Stále bojuji s větrnými mlýny. Klaním se dobrým nahrávkám, užívám si smutné melodie, oceňuji sílu ostrých riffů i naléhavého vokálu. NOVEMBERS DOOM patří již dlouhé roky mezi kapely, na které je spolehnutí.

Vnímám jejich novou nahrávku všemi póry svého těla. Moje srdce tepe ve stejném rytmu. Doom metal se musí poslouchat v tichu, ve tmě, v pohodě, aby co nejvíce vynikly pochmurné melodie. Novinka je velmi drásavým, přesvědčivým a smutným albem. Cítím v něm ale i naději, pradávnou energii. A tak dál chodím tímhle podivným světem a usmívám se. Do uší mi totiž hraje "Major Arcana".


Muzika u mě byla vždycky o emocích a ty, které letos přinášejí tihle tmáři, jsou velmi naléhavé. Jsou jako kousky ledu, které zůstávají v mých žilách, když na mě padne splín. Utíkám z města, z jeho šumu a nervozity. Do lesů, do hor, kde mě obejme chlad a temné mraky. Našlapuji opatrně, jsem tichým stínem, do ničeho nezasahuji. Spočinutí. Zastavení. Návštěva starého hřbitova s náhrobky nahrnutými do strany. Jednou na nich bude napsané i moje jméno. Celým tělem mi proniká ledově syrový zvuk, užívám si jednotlivé melodie, krásně smutně ošetřené vokály, ukrývám se před světlem a přemýšlím, co se jednou stane, až zemřu. Rozplynu se v temnotě? Budu navěky bloudit mezi naším a oním světem? Stanu se tichým svědomím? Netuším, otázek je příliš mnoho a odpovědi nepřicházejí. Ne, v těchto momentech nemohu o téhle nahrávce psát s nadhledem a dívat se na ní kritickým okem. Není to ani potřeba, vše tu sedí na svých místech. Zvuk, motiv na obalu, celkové provedení, vše je v nejlepším pořádku. Můžete se tak plně soustředit na hudbu samotnou, která je velmi uvěřitelná, podmanivá, reálná, přesvědčivá, autentická, zahraná od srdce. Pro mě je vždy opravdu důležité, abych nahrávce věřil a v případě "Major Arcana" je tomu na sto procent. NOVEMBERS DOOM jsou samozřejmě veteráni na scéně, kterým ale jejich hudbu můžete věřit. Nepřinášejí nic nového, ale vlastně ani nemusí. Mají svůj, unikátní a originální styl, který kdysi sami vymysleli. Jsou pro mě jistotou v dnešním rozháraném světě. Jsou chvíle, kdy chci být sám. Jenom já a muzika, jenom já a kniha, příroda a ticho. Reproduktory nasměrované do srdce, chlad a tma. Přemýšlím o životě, o smrti, o kamarádech, kteří mě opustili. I try to continue to proudly carry the flag high. I am still fighting windmills. I bow to good recordings, enjoy sad melodies, appreciate the power of sharp riffs and urgent vocals. NOVEMBERS DOOM has been one of the bands you can rely on for many years.

I feel their new recording with every pore of my body. My heart beats in the same rhythm. Doom metal must be listened to in silence, in darkness, in peace, so that the gloomy melodies stand out as much as possible. The new album is very gloomy, convincing, and sad. But I also feel hope in it, an ancient energy. And so I continue walking through this strange world and smiling. Because "Major Arcana" is playing in my ears.


Music has always been about emotions for me, and the ones these gloomy people bring this year are very urgent. They are like pieces of ice that remain in my veins when I feel melancholy. I run away from the city, from its noise and nervousness. To the forests, to the mountains, where the cold and dark clouds embrace me. I tread carefully, I am a silent shadow, I do not interfere with anything. Rest. Pause. A visit to an old cemetery with gravestones piled to one side. One day, my name will be written on them too. An icy, raw sound penetrates my whole body, I enjoy the individual melodies, the beautifully sad vocals, I hide from the light and think about what will happen when I die. Will I dissolve into darkness? Will I wander forever between this world and the next? Will I become a silent conscience? I have no idea, there are too many questions and no answers. No, in these moments I cannot write about this recording with detachment and look at it with a critical eye. There is no need to, everything is in its place. The sound, the motif on the cover, the overall design, everything is in perfect order. This allows you to fully concentrate on the music itself, which is very believable, captivating, realistic, convincing, authentic, and played from the heart. For me, it is always really important to believe in a recording, and in the case of "Major Arcana", I believe in it one hundred percent. NOVEMBERS DOOM are, of course, veterans on the scene, but you can trust their music. They don't bring anything new, but they don't need to. They have their own unique and original style, which they once invented themselves. For me, they are a certainty in today's troubled world. There are times when I want to be alone. Venku se ochladilo a déšť padá k zemi jako tiché svědomí. Vydal ses na další ze svých nekonečných cest. Jsi už starý muž a stále hledáš smysl života. Víru si ztratil už dávno. Zažil si až příliš bolesti, strachu a nenávisti. Jako vždycky, když navštívíš hroby svých předků, tě obejme nekonečný smutek. Zvedáš oči k nebi a tvé slzy se smíchají s krvavým deštěm. Jaký je smysl života, ptáš se tichých stromů. Je to moc, je to síla, je to láska, je to rodina? Máš stále tolik otázek a život je až příliš krátký.

Chybí mi moudrost starců i laskavost matek. Nějak se nám ze světa vytratila pokora. Poslouchám nové album legendárních PARADISE LOST a jsem zase jednou napojen na hudbu velmi silně, opravdově, uvěřitelně. Moc dobře vím, sleduji tuhle kapelu celý svůj život, že gentlemani nepřináší nic nového, ani převratného. Nevadí mi to, styl, který kdysi dávno sami vymysleli, je již dávno dokonalý. Užívám si tak jednotlivé skladby, jsem jimi doslova nasáklý, podmaněný, jsem jejich součástí. Nejvíce vyniknou na starém hřbitově, když se za deště vrátím a přemýšlím o osudu a životě. Pánové letos znovu potvrzují status mé srdcové kapely. 


Je stále zde. Taková ta prchavá melancholie, která vás donutí se zastavit. PARADISE LOST vždycky tvořili a hráli hlavně pro fanoušky, kteří jsou empatičtí, vnímaví, kteří dokáží ocenit krásu podzimu, barevných stromů i usínající přírody. Novinka je volným pokračováním věcí minulých. Silné, dobře zapamatovatelné melodie, pestře naléhavé vokály, riffy, které se vám dostanou až do vnitřností. Většinou to nedělám, ale tentokrát jsem se podíval dopředu i na klipy a musím rovnou napsat, že se velmi povedly. Hlavní je pro mě ale vždy album jako celek, rád se nechávám unášet jen tak melodiemi, nejlépe o samotě, ve stoleté chalupě v horách. Je už zima a běhá mi mráz po zádech. Vítr se prohání v korunách stromů. Užívám si poctivě čitelný, chladný a pochmurný zvuk, nasávám atmosféru absolutního smutku. Sleduji mraky v kopcích, nastavuji tvář nebi, křičím do tmy a říkám si stále dokola, ano, to je přesně ono, tohle je muzika, kterou jsem jako starý fanoušek chtěl, čekal na ní, jako na smilování boží. "Ascension" je přesně tím druhem nahrávky, která roste postupně. Nejdříve byla jen kulisou při čtení starých knih, potom se mi postupně dostala do krve. Stále objevuji nová temná zákoutí. Většinou poslouchám drsnější, extrémnější muziku, ale když přijdou angličtí tmáři s nějakou novou hudbou, bývám ztracený. Víte, člověku přibývají roky, postupně stárne a potřebuje čím dál tím víc alespoň malé kousky něčeho, čeho by se mohl chytit. Nějaký pevný bod ve vesmíru, hudbu, která má v sobě něco navíc, kus srdce. A tohle všechno PARADISE LOST umí na výbornou. Amen! Myslím, že víc netřeba dodávat. It has cooled down outside and rain is falling silently to the ground. You have set out on another of your endless journeys. You are an old man now and still searching for the meaning of life. You lost your faith long ago. You have experienced too much pain, fear, and hatred. As always, when you visit the graves of your ancestors, you are overcome with endless sadness. You raise your eyes to the sky and your tears mix with the bloody rain. What is the meaning of life, you ask the silent trees. Is it power, is it strength, is it love, is it family? You still have so many questions, and life is too short.

I miss the wisdom of the elders and the kindness of mothers. Somehow, humility has disappeared from our world. I listen to the new album by the legendary PARADISE LOST and once again I feel a very strong, genuine, believable connection to the music. I know very well, having followed this band my whole life, that these gentlemen bring nothing new or revolutionary. I don't mind, the style they invented long ago is already perfect. I enjoy each song, I am literally soaked in them, captivated by them, I am part of them. They stand out most in the old cemetery when I return in the rain and think about fate and life. This year, the gentlemen once again confirm their status as my favorite band. 


It's still here. That fleeting melancholy that makes you stop and think. PARADISE LOST have always created and played mainly for fans who are empathetic, perceptive, who can appreciate the beauty of autumn, colorful trees, and nature falling asleep. The new album is a loose continuation of things past. Strong, memorable melodies, colorful, urgent vocals, riffs that get under your skin. I don't usually do this, but this time I watched the videos in advance and I have to say right away that they are very well done. For me, however, the main thing is always the album as a whole. I like to let myself be carried away by the melodies, preferably alone, in a century-old cottage in the mountains. It's winter now, and I have chills running down my spine. The wind is rushing through the treetops. I enjoy the honest, cold, and gloomy sound, soaking up the atmosphere of absolute sadness. I watch the clouds in the hills, turn my face to the sky, shout into the darkness and say to myself over and over again, yes, this is it, this is the music I wanted as an old fan, waited for it like God's mercy. "Ascension" is exactly the kind of recording that grows on you gradually. At first, it was just a backdrop when reading old books, but then it gradually got into my blood. I am still discovering new dark corners. I mostly listen to rougher, more extreme music, but when the English darkies come up with some new music, I am lost. You know, as a person gets older, they gradually age and need more and more at least small pieces of something to hold on to. Some kind of fixed point in the universe, music that has something extra in it, a piece of heart. And PARADISE LOST does all this perfectly. Amen! I think that says it all. Moc dobře víš, že když vstoupíš dovnitř, bude následovat jenom temnota a utrpení. Zrozen v krutosti a bolestech čekáš na tuhle chvíli celý svůj život. Říkají o tobě, že jsi prokletý. Trávíš svůj čas ve tmě, beze světla, o samotě. Jenom ty a hnisavá hudba, jenom chlad a studená mrtvá těla. Mám rád hudbu, která ve mě dokáže probudit emoce, strhnout mě do hlubiny, zaseknout do mě svůj ostrý dráp. Nepustí mě od reproduktorů a vymáchá mi hubu v kaluži plné krve.

S americkými ORDEALS se setkávám poprvé a stačilo několik prvních tónů, abych věděl, že zde vše hoří jasným černým plamenem a smrdí sírou. Nové album je pro mě velmi propracovanou, návykovou, morbidně přitažlivou a magickou záležitostí. Poslouchám hudbu hlavně srdcem a black death metal v tomto provedení si nechám vždy líbit. Novinka se opravdu povedla. Je divoká, temná a chladná zároveň. Záhadná a připomíná spíše starodávné rituály, než jen obyčejnou nahrávku. Doporučuji poslech v absolutním tichu a naprosté tmě. 


Bolestivé melodie, ostré riffy, které se vám zadřou pod kůži. Bicí, co vám vystřelí mozek z hlavy a všude přítomná, do černých odstínů zabarvená aura. ORDEALS stvořili dílo, které snad ani není z tohoto světa. Muselo vznikat v samotném pekle, hluboko v podzemí, v místech, kde i po smrti trpí prokletí. Stíny jsou zase jednou hodně dlouhé a mraky se dotýkají země. Každou chvíli z nich začne pršet krev. Je cosi děsivého, strašidelného, neklidného, co ze skladeb cítím. Jako bych při poslechu za sebou vždy zavřel staré rezavé dveře do podsvětí. Zůstanu tu zde již navěky, amen! Kapela se volně inspirovala jak starou americkou scénou, tak i kapelami z australských jeskyní. To ale není zase tolik důležité. Hlavní je to, že má tahle smečka svůj vlastní styl, výraz, rukopis. ORDEALS jsou zkrátka svým způsobem originální a to je v dnešní době menší zázrak. Líbí se mi zvuk, motiv na obalu, všechna ta nahrubo nasekaná tma, která ze songů odkapává jako hnis z dlouho zaníceného vředu. Kapela hraje reálně, divoce, uvěřitelně, autenticky. Každé naše společné setkání bylo spíše starodávnou ceremonií, než jen obyčejným poslechem. Věřím kapele každou notu, melodii, jsem jejich hudbou zcela pohlcen. Pro mě osobně jsou to hrozně důležité věci. Pokud to máte nastavené jako já, mohu vám "Third Rail Prayer" jenom doporučit. Smrt čeká za rohem a usmívá se. Nedivím se, hraje se tu hlavně pro ní i pro všechny s černou duší. Moc dobře vím, že když vstoupím dovnitř, bude následovat jenom temnota a utrpení. You know very well that when you enter, only darkness and suffering will follow. Born in cruelty and pain, you have been waiting for this moment your whole life. They say you are cursed. You spend your time in the dark, without light, alone. Just you and festering music, just cold and cold dead bodies. This is my first time meeting the American ORDEALS and the first few notes were enough to know that everything here burns with a bright black flame and smells of sulfur. The new album is a very sophisticated, addictive, morbidly attractive and magical thing for me. I listen to music mainly with my heart and I always like black death metal in this version. The new one was really successful. It is wild, dark and cold at the same time. Mysterious and more reminiscent of ancient rituals than just an ordinary recording. I recommend listening in absolute silence and complete darkness.


Painful melodies, sharp riffs that get under your skin. Drums that will blow your brains out and an aura that is everywhere, colored in black shades. ORDEALS created a work that is perhaps not from this world. It must have been created in hell itself, deep underground, in places where curses suffer even after death. The shadows are once again very long and the clouds touch the ground. Every now and then blood starts raining from them. There is something terrifying, spooky, uneasy that I feel from the songs. As if I always close the old rusty door to the underworld behind me when listening to them. I will stay here forever, amen! The band was freely inspired by both the old American scene and the bands from Australian caves. But that is not so important. The main thing is that this group has its own style, expression, handwriting. ORDEALS are simply original in their own way and that is a minor miracle these days. I like the sound, the motif on the cover, all that roughly chopped darkness that drips from the songs like pus from a long-inflamed ulcer. The band plays realistically, wildly, believably, authentically. Every time we met together was more like an ancient ceremony than just an ordinary listening. I trust the band with every note, melody, I am completely absorbed in their music. For me personally, these are extremely important things. If you are set up like me, I can only recommend "Third Rail Prayer". Death is waiting around the corner and smiling. I am not surprised, it is played here mainly for her and for everyone with a black soul. I know very well that when I step inside, only darkness and suffering will follow. Born in cruelty and pain, I have been waiting for this moment my whole life. They say that I am cursed. I spend my time in the dark, without light, alone. Just me and the festering music, just me and this album. Dark and cold, black death metal soaked in ancient diseases that will pull you into the depths! The bloody ritual has begun!

U nás před domem umírá jeden stoletý strom. Trvá tu už spoustu let. Jakoby v sobě nesl veškerou tíhu světa. Probudil jsem se zase jednou uprostřed noci a nemohl spát. Jako nějaký vlkodlak jsem si sedl do pokoje a díval se z okna. Měsíc ozařoval korunu stromu a já měl pocit, že dochází k něčemu záhadnému, tajemnému. Na tenhle, pro mě osobní a niterný zážitek, jsem si vzpomněl i ve chvíli, když jsem začal poslouchat druhé dlouhohrající album doom death metalových PILGRIMAGE. 

Kapelu jsem až dosud neznal a tak jsem se jí v duchu omluvil. Vypadá to, že mluví stejným jazykem jako já, že nám v žilách koluje podobná krev. Mám rád, když na mě hudba působí podobným způsobem, když je tajemná, záhadná, návyková, když mám chuť se k ní vracet. Díval jsem se na umírající strom, na temné nebe a poslouchal jsem u toho "From Amber to Sun". Byl to pro mě opravdu silný zážitek. 


Sešli se tu muzikanti z Nizozemí a Malty, kteří nejen, že perfektně rozumí svému řemeslu, ale ještě se jim povedlo do skladeb promítnout velkou spoustu bolesti, strachu, beznaděje, smutku. Přesně takhle to má vypadat, říkám si u reproduktorů a i když mám na svém stole velkou spoustu dalších nahrávek, stále dokola se vracím k PILGRIMAGE. Tahle nahrávka má v sobě něco magického, drásá mě zevnitř, pálí a žhne a zároveň je chladná jako mlhavé ráno na hřbitově. Zlé, surové a mocné pasáže se zde střídají s melancholií a mrazem. Skladby jsou velmi dobře napsány, mají skvělý zvuk, jsou uvěřitelné, opravdové, autentické. Pro mě jsou tohle, a stále to opakuji, velmi důležité věci, které od dobrých desek vyžaduji. Za prostudování stojí rozhodně i texty a za velmi povedený považuji i obal. Na nahrávání alba se podíleli i dva skvělí hosté - Heike Langhans a její démonický vokál (DRACONIAN, REMINA) a krásná Elianne Anemaat, která přidala několik úžasných pasáží na cello. Zkrátka a dobře, nebudu vám tu vypisovat kapely, kterými se tihle tmáři nechali volně inspirovat. Určitě vás nějaké napadnou samy. O tohle zde ale vůbec nejde. Novinka je jako pohřební mše se vším, co k tomu patří. Osobně se nechám vždy a rád znovu pozvat, abych se spolu s kapelou vydal na dlouhý výlet bez konce. Prosévám mezi prsty prach, sedím na lavičce, hned vedle tvého hrobu. Vzpomínám na všechno, co jsme spolu prožili. Rozmlouvám s mrtvými. Přesně pro tyhle chvíle je tohle album určeno. Za mě osobně jej mohu doporučit všem, kteří si všímají umírajících stromů a dívají na mraky v černé obloze. Drásavý, smutný a bolestivý doom death metal s krvavou aurou, který vás převede do země nekonečných stínů! Krása umírajících dní!

A hundred-year-old tree is dying in front of our house. It has been here for many years. It seems to have carried the whole weight of the world. I woke up again in the middle of the night and couldn't sleep. Like a werewolf, I sat in my room and looked out the window. The moon was shining on the treetop and I had the feeling that something mysterious, mysterious was happening. I remembered this, personal and visceral experience for me, when I started listening to the second full-length album of doom death metal band PILGRIMAGE.

I didn't know the band until now, so I apologized to them in my mind. It seems that they speak the same language as me, that similar blood flows in our veins. I like it when music affects me in a similar way, when it is mysterious, enigmatic, addictive, when I feel like returning to it. I was looking at the dying tree, at the dark sky, and listening to "From Amber to Sun". It was a really powerful experience for me.


Musicians from the Netherlands and Malta have gathered here, who not only understand their craft perfectly, but also managed to project a lot of pain, fear, hopelessness, sadness into their songs. This is exactly how it should sound, I tell myself at the speakers and even though I have a lot of other records on my desk, I keep coming back to PILGRIMAGE. This record has something magical in it, it tears me apart from the inside, it burns and glows and at the same time it is cold like a foggy morning in a cemetery. Evil, raw and powerful passages alternate with melancholy and frost. The songs are very well written, have a great sound, they are believable, real, authentic. For me, these are, and I keep repeating, very important things that I demand from good records. The lyrics are definitely worth studying and I also consider the cover to be very good. Two great guests also participated in the recording of the album - Heike Langhans and her demonic vocals (DRACONIAN, REMINA) and the beautiful Elianne Anemaat, who added several amazing cello passages. In short, I won't list the bands that these dark ones were freely inspired by. You will surely think of some yourself. But that's not what this is about at all. The new album is like a funeral mass with everything that goes with it. Personally, I always and gladly let myself be invited again to go on a long trip with the band without end. I sift the dust between my fingers, I sit on a bench, right next to your grave. I remember everything we've experienced together. I talk to the dead. This album is designed for exactly these moments. Personally, I can recommend it to everyone who notices dying trees and looks at clouds in the black sky. Harrowing, sad and painful doom death metal with a bloody aura that will transport you to the land of endless shadows! The beauty of dying days!
