Včera jsem se vrátil z koncertu. Jel jsem na něj dlouhou cestu vlakem. Kolem mě byli samí naštvaní lidé a svět mi připadal zase jednou pěkně divný. Viděl jsem dívky s rukama rozedřenýma do krve, potkal jsem muže, kteří vypadali jako démoni, jako nemrtví. Potřeboval jsem něco, co mě rozseká na kusy, něco ostrého, divokého, šíleného. Hudbu, která žhne a pálí. Potřeboval jsem nahrubo nasekaný thrash metal s vysokým oktanovým číslem. Maniaci CRIPPLED FINGERS mi jej dodali. Měl jsem chvílemi strach, aby vlak neměl bouračku, směřoval totiž, jak jinak, rovnou do pekla.

Občas mám v hlavě něco temného, co potřebuji dostat ven. Vyřvat se, rozsekat kus syrového masa. Nebo poslouchat nahrávky, jako je ta letošní, od téhle smečky. Třetí dlouhohrající album je nářez od začátku do konce. Syrový, ostrý thrash metal s prvky hardcore. To vše zamíchané ve smrtícím koktejlu. Kapelu jsem viděl před lety naživo a ten posun je neskutečný. Před vámi stojí muzikanti, kteří přesně ví, co a jak chtějí hrát. Marně hledám nějaká slabá místa. 


Máte rádi HATEBREED, AS I LAY DAING, MALEVOLENCE, LAMB OF GOD? Potřebujete ze sebe dostat vztek a frustraci, které nám dnešní podivný svět přináší ve velké míře? Potom neváhejte a skočte rovnou do mosh-pitu. Ve vypjatých momentech připomíná v určitých polohách vokalista Toma Arayau ze SLAYER. Jasně, že najdeme spoustu styčných bodů i s dalšími skupinami. Dnes snad ani nelze nebýt někomu podobný. Ale o to zde ani nejde. Pánové si dali velký pozor na to, aby měli zabijácký zvuk (mixing and mastering Martin "Holly" Hollandr). Ten je moderní, úderný a živočišný zároveň. Žádná současná, mnohdy tak častá umělá produkce. Naopak, mám pocit, že z reproduktorů ke mě stéká zkažená krev. Když si to vezmu kolem a kolem, tak vlastně podobně zaměřenou muziku příliš neposlouchám. Přesto se mi dostala novinka pod kůži a rád jsem se k ní vracel. Kapela na sobě opravdu odvedla velký kus práce. Mám sice raději malé osobnější kluby, kde lidé létají vzduchem, ale CRIPPLED FINGERS se dle mého novinkou posunuli do vyšší ligy, na velká pódia. Zkrátka a dobře, seděl jsem v tom pekelném vlaku, podupával si nohou do rytmu, mlátil pěstí do stolu, až na mě lidé divně koukali. Jenže já si nemůžu pomoc. Skladby v sobě totiž mají velkou sílu, tlak, energii. A to vše namíchané přesně v poměru, v jakém to mám nejraději. Chtělo by to také nějakou kritiku, nemyslíte? Rád bych, ale nic mě nenapadá. Až budete potřebovat něco, co vás rozseká na kusy, něco ostrého, divokého, šíleného. Hudbu, která žhne a spálí vás, tak vám nové album "Through the Pain" opravdu  doporučuji. Zažijete reálnou, poctivou trepanaci lebky. Nahrubo nasekaná thrash metalová smršť, po které vám zůstane v hlavě krvavá stopa! Masakr divokých myšlenek!

I just got back from a concert yesterday. I took a long train ride to it. I was surrounded by angry people and the world seemed pretty weird again. I saw girls with their hands ripped open, I met men who looked like demons, like the undead. I needed something to cut me to pieces, something sharp, wild, crazy. Music that glows and burns. I needed rough-hewn, high-octane thrash metal. Maniacs CRIPPLED FINGERS delivered. At times I was afraid that the train would crash, because it was heading straight to hell.

Sometimes I have something dark in my head that I need to get out. Shout it out, cut up a piece of raw meat. Or listen to records, like this one this year, from this pack. The third full-length is a blast from start to finish. Raw, edgy thrash metal with elements of hardcore. All mixed in a deadly cocktail. I saw the band live years ago and the shift is incredible. In front of you are musicians who know exactly what and how they want to play. I look in vain for any weak spots. 


Do you like HATEBREED, AS I LAY DAING, MALEVOLENCE, LAMB OF GOD? Do you need to get out of yourself the anger and frustration that today's strange world brings us in large measure? Then feel free to jump straight into the mosh pit. In tense moments, the vocalist is reminiscent of SLAYER's Tom Araya in certain positions. Of course, we can find plenty of points of contact with other bands as well. It's impossible not to be like someone nowadays. But that's not even the point here. The gentlemen took great care to have a killer sound (mixing and mastering by Martin "Holly" Hollander). It's modern, punchy and animalistic at the same time. No contemporary, often so common artificial production. On the contrary, I feel like bad blood is dripping out of the speakers towards me. All things considered, I don't really listen to much music of this kind. Still, the novelty got under my skin and I liked coming back to it. The band really did a great job on themselves. I prefer small, more personal clubs where people are flying through the air, but CRIPPLED FINGERS, in my opinion, have moved up to the big league, to the big stages. Long story short, I sat on that infernal train, stomping my foot to the beat, pounding my fist on the table until people looked at me strangely. I just can't help it. The songs have a lot of power, pressure, energy. And it's all mixed in the exact proportions I like it best. It would take some criticism too, don't you think? I'd like to, but I can't think of anything. When you need something that's gonna cut you to pieces, something sharp, wild, crazy. Music that burns and scorches you, I really recommend the new album "Through the Pain". You're going to get a real, honest skull bashing. A coarsely chopped thrash metal blast that will leave a bloody trail in your head! A massacre of wild thoughts!

V žilách mi již dlouhé roky koluje zkažená krev. Byl jsem prokletý někdy na konci osmdesátých let minulého století. Už dávno si nedovedu představit život bez prašivé, dnes již archivní hudby. Jsem rád, že stále vstávají z popela kapely jako jsou brazilští SPEEDKILLER. Poslouchat jejich debutové album je totiž jako otevřít starou prašivou rakev. Naleznete v ní pravý, ryzí thrash a black metal, který se hrával kdysi dávno na kazetách. Na těch také novinka vychází. Brazilci jsou zkrátka opravdoví a klasičtí v tom nejlepším slova smyslu.

A tak jsem si zase jednou udělal hezký víkend u přehrávače. Popíjel jsem pivo, neustále přidával hlasitost a užíval jsem si ozvěny ze starých časů. Pánové na to jdou ostře a divoce, jejich hudba nepostrádá potřebný a chtěný náboj a sílu. Démoni se usmívají. Není divu, hraje se zde i pro ně. V jejich středu sedí samotný Satan, který dal nové desce známku kvality. 


Máte rádi staré dobré VENOM, AURA NOIR, PROTECTOR, HELLHAMMER, SODOM, BULLDOZER? Potom byste mohli být spokojeni a nadšeni i z desky "Inferno". Je to tradiční smršť, která by se měla pořádat v dávno opuštěných katakombách. Pánové mají jasný cíl, rozdrtit vaše kosti na prach. Myslím si, že pro to udělali vše potřebné. Mají povedený, archivní zvuk, parádní stylový obal, po formální stránce si není rozhodně na co stěžovat. Už dlouhé roky trávím svůj čas převážně ve stínu a podobné kapely rád a s chutí nejen podporuji, ale hlavně poslouchám. Je v tom samozřejmě kus nostalgie, ale ta je mou součástí stejně, jako ocelové srdce, které stále tepe v mém hrudníku. Neznám nic lepšího, než si jen tak sednout, odhlučnit svět kolem mě a narvat si pod tlakem tohle album. Jako bych se vrátil po časové ose zpět, do doby, kdy jsem byl mladý a kazety se muchlaly v mém přehrávači každý den. Kapele se povedlo nahrát desku, která je pro mě, starého prašivého psa, zajímavá. Rád jsem se k ní vracel a poslouchal ji nejlépe v noci. Občas ke mě přišly přízraky, rozmlouvaly se mnou a postupně přidávaly hlasitost. Pokud jste na tom stejně jako já, tak neváhejte ani chvilku, dostanete poctivou porci ostrých riffů, zvrácených melodií i chorobného vokálu. Někdy se nové album dostalo i do mých snů. Tančil jsem v nich s těmi nejkrásnějšími zombie. A to vše samozřejmě v rytmu této nahrávky. Jestli jste srdcem i duší stará škola, tak na SPEEDKILLER rozhodně nezapomeňte. I've had bad blood in my veins for years. I was cursed sometime in the late 1980s. I can't imagine a life without mangy, now-archival music anymore. I'm glad that bands like Brazil's SPEEDKILLER are still rising from the ashes. Listening to their debut album is like opening an old dusty coffin. Inside you will find true, pure thrash and black metal that used to be played on cassettes a long time ago. That's what the new album is released on. Brazilians are simply real and classic in the best sense of the word.

And so I once again had a nice weekend at the record player. I sipped beer, kept turning up the volume and enjoyed the echoes of the old days. The gentlemen are going at it sharp and fierce, their music doesn't lack the necessary and desired drive and power. The demons are smiling. No wonder, it's played for them too. In their midst sits Satan himself, who has given the new record a stamp of quality. 


Do you like the good old VENOM, AURA NOIR, PROTECTOR, HELLHAMMER, SODOM, BULLDOZER? Then you might be satisfied and excited about the album "Inferno". It's a traditional whirlwind that should be held in long abandoned catacombs. The gentlemen have a clear goal, to crush your bones to dust. I think they've done everything they need to do. They've got a hilarious, archival sound, a cool stylish cover, and formally there's definitely nothing to complain about. I've been spending my time mostly in the shadows for many years now, and I love to not only support bands like this, but listen to them with gusto. There's a bit of nostalgia in it, of course, but it's as much a part of me as the heart of steel that still beats in my chest. I don't know anything better than to just sit down, tune out the world around me and cram this album in under pressure. It's like I've gone back in time, back to when I was young and cassettes were making out in my player every day. The band has managed to make a record that is interesting to me, an old mangy dog. I liked to go back to it and listen to it best at night. Occasionally, ghosts would come up to me, talk to me, and gradually turn up the volume. If you're like me, don't hesitate a moment, you'll get a fair portion of sharp riffs, twisted melodies and sick vocals. Sometimes a new album gets into my dreams. I danced in them with the most beautiful zombies. All to the beat of this record, of course. If you're old school at heart and soul, then definitely don't forget SPEEDKILLER. I've had bad blood running through my veins for years. I was cursed sometime in the late 1980s. I have long since been unable to imagine a life without scabrous, now archival music. Heavy, hellish black thrash metal whirlwind in the old catacombs!

Už dávno nemám strach. Jsem připraven. Viděl jsem už tolik umírání, tolik bolesti, že se na smrt těším. Ležíme v zákopech a čekáme na nový útok. Zničeni ohněm, pod neustálou palbou, odoláváme dalším a dalším střelám. Jsme vojáci temnoty, jsme posluchači nahrávek, jako je ta od australských IRÖNWITCH. Kapely, která vás vezme pomocí své divoké a neurvalé hudby přímo na bojiště. Všichni dávno víme, že jednou shoříme v pekle. Než se tak ale stane, přidáme hlasitost.

Tohle je black/death thrash metalové bombardování. Jedná se sice o debutové album, ale není to vůbec znát. Nahrávka má skvělý masivní a ostrý výraz, je napsána s jediným účelem. Totálně vás zničit, smést z povrchu zemského. Je to klasický, tradiční masakr, který bude dělat dobře všem, kteří stejně jako já vyrůstali na hudbě z devadesátých let minulého století. 


Na novince zazní odkazy jak na německou thrash metalovou školu (SODOM), tak i na severský black metal. Vše je potom kombinováno se základním, primitivním smrtícím kovem. Výsledkem je jedovatý koktejl, který když pozřete, tak se ocitnete buď v zákopech pod plnou palbou a nebo ve staré márnici, ve které čekají na pohřeb vojáci. Budete s nimi pomocí téhle desky rozmlouvat, budou vám šeptat své děsivé příběhy o utrpení, o šílenství, zvaném válka. IRÖNWITCH nahráli svým způsobem "primitivní", barbarskou desku. Zároveň jsou jednotlivé songy propracované, mají v sobě takovou tu pradávnou temnou energii, tlak, posbíraný na bojištích světových válek. Jako bych sledoval starý černobílý dokument. Tanky, které pod sebou drtí nebohá těla znásilněných. Praskající kosti, hořící domy, další nálet, po kterém zůstává jenom spálená země. Stejně jako po téhle nahrávce. Přiznávám, k prvním deskám bývám vždy trošku skeptický, přistupuji k nim opatrně. Tentokrát jsem ale nemusel. Byl jsou zasažen přímo na solar plexus. Tohle je nekompromisní, šílená jízda přímo do pekla. Bez slitování. Jenom na dřeň ohlodaný metal, ukovaný z té nejkvalitnější oceli. Vypadá to, že se v australském podzemí probudila další z krvelačných bestií. To vám můžu podepsat vlastní krví. Pokud máte rádi podobný, syrový metal, odkazující na počátky samotných extrémních stylů, neváhejte ani chvilku. Budete pohřbeni zaživa! Pochválit musím i parádní obal (Jenglot Hitam) a totálně masakrující zvuk (Recorded and Mixed by Brendan Auld at Black Blood Audio, Mastered by Arthur Rizk). Takhle nějak by to mělo vypadat! Už dávno nemám strach. Jsem připraven. Viděl jsem už tolik umírání, tolik bolesti, že se na smrt těším. Ležíme v zákopech a čekáme na nový útok. I'm not scared anymore. I'm ready. I've seen so much dying, so much pain, that I look forward to death. We're lying in the trenches, waiting for a new attack. Destroyed by fire, under constant fire, we resist more and more bullets. We are soldiers of darkness, we are listeners of recordings like the one by the Australian IRÖNWITCH. A band that takes you right into the battlefield with their wild and untamed music. We all know that one day we will burn in hell. But before that happens, let's turn up the volume.

This is a black/death thrash metal bombardment. It may be their debut album, but it doesn't show at all. The record has a great massive and edgy expression, it's written with one purpose. To totally destroy you, to wipe you off the face of the earth. It's a classic, traditional massacre that will do well for anyone who, like me, grew up on 90s music. 


The new album features references to both the German thrash metal school (SODOM) and Nordic black metal. Everything is then combined with basic, primitive death metal. The result is a poisonous cocktail that, when you devour it, you find yourself either in the trenches under full fire or in an old morgue with soldiers waiting to be buried. You'll talk to them through this record, they'll whisper to you their horrific tales of suffering, of the madness called war. IRÖNWITCH have recorded a kind of "primitive", barbaric record. At the same time the individual songs are sophisticated, they have that ancient dark energy, a pressure gathered on the battlefields of the world wars. It's like watching an old black and white documentary. Tanks crushing the poor bodies of the raped beneath them. Bones cracking, houses burning, another air raid leaving nothing but scorched earth. Just like this footage. I admit, I'm always a bit sceptical about first records, I approach them with caution. But this time I didn't have to. It was hit right on the solar plexus. This is an uncompromising, insane ride straight to hell. No mercy. Just gnawed-to-the-bone metal forged from the finest steel. Looks like another bloodthirsty beast has awakened in the Australian underground. I can sign that in my own blood. If you like similar, raw metal, harking back to the origins of extreme styles themselves, don't hesitate a moment. You will be buried alive! I must also praise the awesome cover art (Jenglot Hitam) and the totally butchering sound (Recorded and Mixed by Brendan Auld at Black Blood Audio, Mastered by Arthur Rizk). This is how it should look like! I'm not scared anymore. I'm ready. I've seen so much dying, so much pain, that I look forward to death. We're lying in the trenches, waiting for a new attack. Recenze/review - ATROPHY - Asylum (2024)

Když mi bylo šestnáct let, tak jsme se neustále s kamarády hádali, která kapela má nejlepší logo. Překreslovali jsme si je do školních sešitů. Když jsem jednom na burze objevil kazetu "Socialized Hate" s logem ATROPHY, byl jsem nadšený. Pamatuji si, že jsem přišel domů, sundal igelitový obal a potom jsem seděl několik hodin u přehrávače a obracel stranu A a B. Moc jsem nerozuměl anglicky, ale machroval jsem se songem Beer Bong. Když před nějakým časem proběhla éterem informace, že se tahle smečka vrací na scénu, těšil jsem se a měl strach zároveň.

Z původní sestavy totiž zbyl jenom zpěvák Brian Zimmerman, jinak nikdo. Nesl jsem si domů nové album "Asylum" a byl hodně zvědavý. Už dávno mi není šestnáct, ale napětí cítím stále. Thrash metal, ten starý, ostrý a plesnivý, je totiž i mým životem. Zapínám play a musím si sednout, protože je to až neuvěřitelné. Kapela, i když ve zcela jiné sestavě, zní úplně stejně jako kdysi. Tohle je tsunami, tohle je smršť. Zdravá naštvanost, síla a energie. A samozřejmě stále skvělý vokál mistra Briana Zimmermana.

Novou desku tak lze zařadit mezi další, velmi povedené návraty starých legend (zmiňme třeba RAZOR z Kanady, VIO-LENCE, EVIL DEAD, DARKNESS, nebo mé oblíbence MORBID SAINT a vždy skvělé OVERKILL). Je v tom samozřejmě velký kus nostalgie, ale ATROPHY se opravdu povedlo nejen vrátit moje myšlenky do osmdesátých a devadesátých let, ale zároveň mi nakopat prdel. V nové desce je stále takový ten nakumulovaný vztek, rebelství, frustrace. Mám neodbytné nutkání mlátit hlavou o zeď, rozdrtit nějaké kosti. Je v tom i kus šílenství, já vím, ale když mě baví novou desku poslouchat. Vše ostatní jde stranou, ATROPHY vydali nové album! Jsem rád, že se pánové nevydali jinou cestou, že svůj styl zakonzervovali, opatřili parádním staroškolským zvukem. Všemu potom vévodí jedovatý hlas a samozřejmě riffy ostré jako čepele skalpelů. Myslím si ale, že novinka není jenom záležitostí pro pamětníky. Mohla by oslovit i všechny současné mladé posluchače, kteří mají tenhle styl rádi. Jedná se pro mě nejen o srdcovou záležitost, ale také o hudbu, kterou o hodně raději poslouchám, než abych o ní psal. Mám totiž velký respekt k legendám, které nejen že mají velký talent, ale zároveň působí svěže a uvěřitelně. Mám hroznou chuť na pivo a tak si dělám hezké večery. Zavřu se ve svém pokoji, pouštím si staré desky a je mi jedno, že kolem nás je divný, šílený svět. "Asylum" je albem, které má už teď čestné místo v mé soukromé diskografii. Je to otisk dávných časů, ale také ryzí a opravdový metal. Je mi skoro padesát a většina mých kamarádů už dávno nežije. Často na ně vzpomínám. Myslím si, že by se jim tahle deska hodně líbila. Koneckonců, to logo pořád patří mezi nejlepší. Alespoň pro mě. Dokonalá esence starodávného thrash metalu, návrat ve velkém stylu! Tahle smečka vás roztrhá na kusy! Pokloňte se!

When I was sixteen years old, my friends and I used to argue all the time about which band had the best logo. We'd redraw them in our school notebooks. When I found a tape of "Socialized Hate" with the ATROPHY logo on it at a stock exchange, I was thrilled. I remember coming home, taking off the plastic wrapper, and then sitting at the record player for hours, flipping sides A and B. I didn't understand much English, but I waved the song Beer Bong. When the information that this pack was coming back to the scene came through the ether some time ago, I was excited and scared at the same time.

Only singer Brian Zimmerman was left from the original line-up, otherwise nobody. I brought home the new album "Asylum" and was very curious. I'm not 16 anymore, but I still feel the excitement. Thrash metal, the old, edgy, moldy kind, is my life. I put it on and I have to sit down because it's unbelievable. The band, although with a completely different line-up, sounds exactly the same as it used to. This is a tsunami, this is a whirlwind. Healthy anger, power and energy. And, of course, the still great vocals of the master Brian Zimmerman.


The new album can thus be classified among other, very successful returns of old legends (let's mention RAZOR from Canada, VIO-LENCE, EVIL DEAD, DARKNESS, or my favourites MORBID SAINT and the always great OVERKILL). There's a big piece of nostalgia in it, of course, but ATROPHY really managed to not only bring my thoughts back to the 80s and 90s, but kick my ass at the same time. There's still that accumulated anger, rebelliousness, frustration in the new record. I have an insistent urge to bang my head against the wall, to crush some bones. There's a bit of madness in it, I know, but when I enjoy listening to a new record. Everything else aside, ATROPHY have released a new album! I'm glad that the gentlemen didn't take a different path, that they preserved their style, provided with a cool old school sound. Everything is then dominated by a venomous voice and of course riffs as sharp as scalpel blades. But I think that the novelty is not just a matter for memoirists. It could also appeal to all the young listeners of today who like this style. It is not only a matter of the heart for me, but also music that I much prefer to listen to rather than write about. In fact, I have a lot of respect for legends who not only have great talent but also come across as fresh and believable. I have a terrible appetite for beer, so I make for a nice evening. I'll lock myself in my room, put on old records and I don't care that there's a weird, crazy world around us. "Asylum" is an album that already has pride of place in my private discography. It's an imprint of the old days, but it's also pure and true metal. I'm almost 50 and most of my friends are dead. I think of them often. I think they'd like this record a lot. After all, the logo is still one of the best. At least for me. The perfect essence of old-time thrash metal, back in style! This pack will tear you apart! Take a bow!

Scházíme se po starých hospodách, diskutujeme o muzice. Bylo mi nedávno vytčeno, že jsem nezmínil novou desku amerických thrash groove metalistů EXHORDER. Nechal jsem to být. Takových přání dostávám velkou spoustu. Jenže píšu sám, už takhle nemám moc času. Pak mi to ale nedalo. Byl víkend a měl jsem najednou volno. Sedím si takhle v pokoji a z ničeho nic mě to zase popadne. Zajdu do sklepa, kde mám uložené staré desky. Otřu z nich prach a hele, mám tu i nějaká alba EXHORDER. 

Vrátím se do pokoje, zavřu dveře, aby mě nikdo nerušil. Několik hodin o mě nikdo neví. EXHORDER nikdy nepatřili mezi kapely, které bych vyloženě žral. Ale takhle po letech mě najednou totálně rozsekali. Sehnal jsem si tedy i novinku a narval si ji pod tlakem do hlavy. Málem mi vyletěl mozek z hlavy. 


Netrpím v jejich případě zase tak velkou nostalgií, jak by se mohlo dle mé šedivé hlavy zdát. Novinka mě ale baví. A to natolik, že jsem se rozhodl o ní napsat. Cítím zde samozřejmě klasické thrash metalové melodie made in EXHORDER, okořeněné podobnými postupy, jaké mají ve své tvorbě PANTERA a DOWN. Je sice pravda, že novinka "Defectum Omnium" nedosahuje "velikosti" starých nahrávek, ale myslím si, že se kapela nemá rozhodně za co stydět. Nové album  je pestré, ostré i melodické. Možná na něm není příliš hitových skladeb, ale zase mi na něm líbí, že i po delší době je stále co objevovat. Je všeobecně známo, že členy kapel jsou zkušení a známí muzikanti. Každý z nich má svůj vlastní rukopis a spoustu skvěle odvedené práce. V EXHORDER svůj talent zúročili a výsledkem je nahrávka, která má rozhodně něco do sebe. Dle mého nemá tahle smečka ve své historii vyloženě slabou desku. Jejich hudba má konstantní kvalitu a je na ni spolehnutí. Navíc, naživo to bývá vždy totální smršť. Osobně se mi potom nejvíc líbí jejich rukopis, jasná poznávací znamení. Mezi ostatními si je rozhodně nespletete. To se samozřejmě hodně počítá. V dnešní době, ve které aby člověk originalitu pohledal. Je to vlastně jednoduché. Pokud jste měli rádi tyhle maniaky v dobách jejich počátků i po návratu v roce 2019, měl byste být spokojeni i letos. U mě tomu tak třeba je. Jestli chcete, klidně vám to podepíšu vlastní krví. Až půjdu s kamarády zase do hospody, tak už budu vědět, o čem se tak nadšeně baví. Doporučuji poslouchat pořádně nahlas! Ostrý, syrový thrash groove metal, po kterém vám v hlavě zůstane krvavá stopa!

We meet in old pubs, discuss music. I was recently reproached for not mentioning the new album by American thrash groove metallers EXHORDER. I let it go. I get a lot of such requests. But I write alone, I don't have much time anymore. But then I couldn't. It was the weekend and I suddenly had some free time. I'm sitting in my room, and all of a sudden it hits me again. I go down to the basement where I keep my old records. I dust them off and look, I've got some EXHORDER albums.

I go back to my room, close the door so no one disturbs me. No one knows I'm here for a few hours. EXHORDER was never a band I really liked. But this way, years later, they've totally blown me away. So I got a new one and shoved it into my head under pressure. My brains almost blew out.


In their case, I don't suffer from nostalgia as much as my grey head might suggest. But I do enjoy the novelty. So much so that I decided to write about it. Of course, I feel here the classic thrash metal melodies made in EXHORDER, spiced up with similar techniques as PANTERA and DOWN. It's true that the new release "Defectum Omnium" doesn't reach the "greatness" of the old records, but I think the band has definitely nothing to be ashamed of. The new album is colorful, sharp and melodic. Maybe there are not too many hit songs on it, but again I like the fact that even after a long time there is still something to discover. It's common knowledge that the members of the bands are experienced and well-known musicians. Each of them has their own signature and a lot of well done work. In EXHORDER they have put their talent to good use and the result is a record that definitely has something to it. In my opinion, this pack has never had a weak record in its history. Their music has a constant quality and can be relied upon. Plus, live it's always a total blast. Personally, I like their handwriting the best, clear hallmarks. You definitely won't mistake them for others. That counts for a lot, of course. In this day and age, when you need originality. It's simple, actually. If you liked these maniacs in their early days and after their return in 2019, you should be satisfied this year too. For me, that may be the case. I'll sign my own blood if you want me to. When I go to the pub with my mates again, I'll know what they're so enthusiastic about. I recommend listening really loud! Sharp, raw thrash groove metal that will leave a bloody trail in your head!

Dívejte se upřeně do černé elipsy. Také patříte k těm, kteří při tom zakusili pocit, že se elipsa zvětšuje a vtahuje vás? Potom jste zde správně. S hudbou MEAH MESSIAH je to velmi podobné. Je temná, industriální, zdánlivě odosobněná, nelidská, Přesto melodická a neotřelá. Vtáhne vás postupně dovnitř, jako vesmírná černá díra. Když na jejich hru přistoupíte, dostanete se do jejich světa, do dimenze, kde vládne absolutní tma a deziluze. Je o tom vlastně celý dnešní svět. Za chvíli nebudeme vědět, co je pravda a co lež. 

Na začátek je nutné zmínit, že principál souboru Dan Friml je velký perfekcionista. Vládne zvukem, produkcí, je podepsán pod obalem, ale také pod samotnými nápady. Oba další členové mu ale zdatně sekundují, doplňují jej. Osobně se mi třeba bicí od Miloše Meiera velmi líbí. Tohle všechno by ale v dnešní době nadprodukce muziky mělo být samozřejmostí. Nakonec jsou stejně nejdůležitější nápady, rukopis, vlastní výraz a zapamatovatelnost. Skladby jako takové.


Kapela se i nadále pohybuje ve stejných oblastech jako jejich slavnější kolegové DEVIN TOWNSEND, FEAR FACTORY, MINISTRY, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, FAITH NO MORE, MNEMIC, NINE INCH NAILS. Zda je to a nebo není na škodu, to si musí každý posluchač srovnat sám v sobě. V současnosti je hrozně těžké být originální, každý je někomu podobný. Za sebe ale mohu napsat, že se mi nové album "In Infinite Illusion" líbí. Je zpěvnější, melodičtější, pestřejší, vzdušnější, přehlednější. Cítím z něj poctivost, takového toho opravdového muzikantského ducha a nadšení. Ze skladeb čiší na všechny strany chlad, strojová přesnost a odtažitost. Ledový otisk z filmů o temné, dystopické budoucnosti. Na staré dobré sci-fi autory jsem si při poslechu vzpomněl velmi často. Na jednu stranu si novinka stále zachovává takový ten syrový odlidštěný nádech, na tu druhou z něj více oproti minulé desce dýchá větší živočišnost. Pochválit musím i dobře zpracované vokály. Je hodně znát, že desku tvořili zkušení muzikanti, kteří přesně ví, co a jak chtějí hrát. Mají vlastní temnou vizi, cestu a směr, kterým se chtěli vydat. Myslím si, že se jim to nakonec povedlo a došli svého cíle. Nové album je v rámci stylu vybroušené k dokonalosti. Navíc se velmi dobře poslouchá. Pro někoho bude inspirace zmiňovanými vzory možná až příliš velká, ale nad podobnými úvahami dávno mávám rukou. To by v dnešní době nemohl vydat nikdo nic. Hudba je přeci krásná v tom, že nám rozšiřuje obzory a tříbí fantazii. V případě téhle desky to platí na sto procent. A teď mě prosím nechte. Nasedám do své vesmírné lodi a dávám naší zničené Zemi sbohem. Zapínám play a přidávám hlasitost. Dívám se upřeně do černé elipsy. Industriální, progresivní, metalový kolaps vesmíru! Zhmotněné deziluze!

Keep your eyes fixed on the black ellipse. Are you also one of those who have experienced the sensation of the ellipse growing larger and drawing you in? Then you have come to the right place. It is very similar with the music of MEAH MESSIAH. It is dark, industrial, seemingly detached, inhuman, yet melodic and novel. It draws you in gradually, like a cosmic black hole. If you agree to their game, you enter their world, a dimension where absolute darkness and disillusionment reign. That's what the world is all about today. Soon we won't know what's true and what's false.

At the outset, it should be mentioned that the company's principal, Dan Friml, is a great perfectionist. He rules the sound, the production, he's signed off on the cover art, but also the ideas themselves. The other two members, however, ably second him, complement him. Personally, I like the drums by Milos Meier very much. But all this should be a matter of course in these days of overproduction of music. In the end, the most important things are ideas, handwriting, own expression and memorability. The compositions as such.


The band continues to move in the same areas as their more famous colleagues DEVIN TOWNSEND, FEAR FACTORY, MINISTRY, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, FAITH NO MORE, MNEMIC, NINE INCH NAILS. Whether or not this is a detriment, each listener has to decide for himself. Nowadays it's very hard to be original, everyone is like someone else. But for myself I can write that I like the new album "In Infinite Illusion". It's more singable, more melodic, more colourful, more airy, more clear. I can feel the honesty, the real musicianship and enthusiasm. The songs ooze coldness, machine-like precision and detachment in all directions. The icy imprint of films about a dark, dystopian future. I thought of good old sci-fi writers very often while listening. On the one hand, the new album still retains that raw dehumanized feel, on the other hand, it breathes more animalism compared to the last album. I must also praise the well crafted vocals. It is very obvious that the album was created by experienced musicians who know exactly what and how they want to play. They have their own dark vision, path and direction they wanted to take. I think they succeeded in the end and reached their goal. The new album is polished to perfection in terms of style. Moreover, it is very easy to listen to. For some, the inspiration from the aforementioned patterns might be too much, but I've been waving my hand over such considerations for a long time. No one could release anything like that these days. After all, music is beautiful in that it broadens our horizons and stretches our imagination. In the case of this record, that's 100% true. Now, please leave me alone. I'm boarding my spaceship and bidding farewell to our ruined Earth. Putting it on play and turning up the volume. I'm staring at a black ellipse. Industrial, progressive, metal collapse of the universe! Disillusionment made flesh!

Mysleli si, že mě potrestají, když mě zavřou na několik nocí do staré márnice. Jenže mě je v temnotě a mezi mrtvými těly dobře. Mám svůj klid a můžu poslouchat desky, které ocením já, i všichni nemrtví. ETERNAL jsou z Arizony a hrají hudbu, u které praskají lebky. Stačilo mi několik společných setkání s novým albem "Cryptic Lust", abych přešel na druhou stranu, do záhrobí. Ulehnul jsem do své oblíbené rakve a čekal, až bude absolutní tma. Teprve potom jsem si novou desku vychutnal nejvíce.

Pánové a dáma se inspirovali u starodávných kapel z devadesátých let minulého století. V době, kdy se mísil smrtící kov s thrash metalem. Kapela si vybrousila svůj vlastní styl, který vám přeláme všechny kosti v těle. Je to samozřejmě old school, poctivá a divoká muzika, která se hrávala na starých pohřebištích. 


Máte rádi staré smečky jako OBITUARY, DEATH, ale i třeba DISSECTION? Uctíváte POSSESSED, MALEVOLENT CREATION, VITAL REMAINS? Líbí se vám, když z riffů odkapává zkažená krev a obejme vás absolutní tma? Potom se pohodlně usaďte (nejlépe do sklepa) a otočte volume pořádně doprava. Když to vezmu kolem a kolem, tak jsem spokojený vlastně se vším. Formální věci, jako prašivý zvuk, morbidní obal (Dedy Badic Art), jsou v absolutním pořádku. Vy si tak můžete vychutnat syrové kousky masa, nasekané nahrubo, jako riffy z téhle desky. Jsem pokaždé hrozně rád, když se setmí a zavřu za sebou rezavé dveře. Čeká mě už jenom utrpení, bolest a poslední soud. Skladby jsou napsány tak, aby vás převedly přes řeku Styx. Jsou surové, mrazivé, budete se po kolena bořit do močálů, budete stahováni stále hlouběji, až se nakonec utopíte a stane se z vás postupně jenom nafouklá mrtvola. Tohle je rituál,  jak vystřižený ze starých dobrých časů. Ostré riffy, chorobný vokál, zničující bicí. V jednotlivých skladbách je navíc nakumulované velké množství energie, tlaku, který mě neustále nutí se k nahrávce vracet. Poslední roky už nepotřebuji jíst, ani pít. Krmím se jenom podobnými deskami a zkaženou krví. Až půjdete kolem našeho hřbitova, klidně se stavte na kus řeči. Naleji vám něco dobrého, a pustím pořádně nahlas "Cryptic Lust". Zatančíme si s nemrtvými, exhumujeme pár starých hrobů. Myslím si, že není nutné dodávat nic dalšího. Zde se hraje pro všechny pravověrné fanoušky nekonečných stínů. Mysleli si, že mě potrestají, když mě zavřou na několik nocí do staré márnice. Jenže mě je v temnotě a mezi mrtvými těly dobře. Mám svůj klid a můžu poslouchat hudbu, kterou ocením já, i všichni nemrtví. Hnilobná, temná odpověď na ozvěny ze záhrobí! Death thrash metal, u kterého ucítíte blízkou přítomnost smrti!

They thought they could punish me by locking me in the old morgue for a few nights. But I'm comfortable in the dark and among the dead bodies. I have my peace and I can listen to records that I, and all the undead, can appreciate. ETERNAL are from Arizona and they play music that cracks skulls. It only took a few encounters with the new album "Cryptic Lust" to bring me to the other side, to the beyond. I laid down in my favorite coffin and waited for absolute darkness. Only then did I enjoy the new album the most.

Gentlemen and Lady took inspiration from the old-time bands of the 1990s. A time when death metal was mixed with thrash metal. The band has honed their own style that will break every bone in your body. It is of course old school, honest and fierce music that was played in old burial grounds.


Do you like old bands like OBITUARY, DEATH, but also DISSECTION? Do you worship POSSESSED, MALEVOLENT CREATION, VITAL REMAINS? Do you like when the riffs drip with bad blood and embrace absolute darkness? Then sit back (preferably in the basement) and turn the volume hard right. All things considered, I'm happy with pretty much everything. Formal things like the dusty sound, the morbid cover art (Dedy Badic Art) are absolutely fine. You get to enjoy raw chunks of meat, chopped up rough, like the riffs on this record. I'm always so glad when it gets dark and I close the rusty door behind me. All that's left for me is suffering, pain and the last judgment. The songs are written to take you across the river Styx. They're raw, chilling, you'll sink knee-deep into the swamps, you'll be pulled deeper and deeper until you eventually drown and become a bloated corpse. This is a ritual straight out of the good old days. Sharp riffs, sick vocals, devastating drums. Moreover, there is a lot of energy and pressure accumulated in each track, which makes me keep coming back to the record. I don't need to eat or drink these days. I feed only on similar records and spoiled blood. When you pass by our cemetery, feel free to drop by for a chat. I'll pour you something good, and I'll play "Cryptic Lust" really loud . We'll dance with the undead, exhume some old graves. I don't think I need to add anything else. This is a game for all true fans of infinite shadows. They thought they'd punish me by locking me in an old morgue for a few nights. But I'm comfortable in the dark and among the dead bodies. I have my peace and I can listen to music that I, and all the undead, can appreciate. A rotten, dark answer to the echoes from beyond the grave! Death thrash metal that makes you feel the near presence of death!

Už jako dítě si se nikdy neusmíval. Žádní kamarádi, jenom bolest a trápení. Díval ses do tmy a přemýšlel si, jak bys všem ublížil. Začalo to mrtvými zvířaty. Fascinace krví. Stal si se stínem, zlým svědomím. Tvé oči žhnuly nenávistí. Násilí, zabití, ponížení. Líbilo se ti hledět do očí, do kterých přicházela smrt. Pomalu, s provazem kolem krku. Teď tu sedíš a nechápeš, co se stalo. Zabíjení je tvojí přirozeností. Poslední dny před popravou přemýšlíš nad dalšími děsivými fantaziemi.

Norští black metalisté KHOLD se na své nové desce zaobírají právě lidmi odsouzenými na smrt. Jdou v této oblasti hluboko do historie své země. Zajímavé téma, které perfektně doplňuje už tak temnou a chladnou atmosféru. Tohle je železo ukované těmi nejlepšími. Doporučuji při poslechu navštívit popravčí místo ve vašem městě. Zážitek bude o to víc bolestivější, intenzivnější, mocnější a záhadnější.


Není žádným tajemstvím, že je kapela složena ze samých zkušených a skvělých muzikantů. Zmínit musím samozřejmě jejich působení v kapelách jako SARKE, TULUS, SATYRICON. A právě k poslední legendě bych KHOLD klidně přirovnal. Potom také k DARKTHRONE. Pánové na to jsou velmi ryze a opravdově. Poslouchat novou desku "Du dømmes til Død" je  jako sedět v cele smrti a přemýšlet, jaké to je, zemřít oběšený na šibenici. Norové se pohybují převážně ve středních a pomalejších tempech. Naplno tak vynikne mrazivá atmosféra. Přispívá k tomu samozřejmě jako vždy vynikající zvuk i obal. Všechny skladby se vám postupně dostanou do žil. Jsou jako jed, který je dávkován tak, abyste umírali s děsem v očích. Je prostým faktem, že se nové album velmi dobře poslouchá. Tak nějak samozřejmě, lehce. Přesto je neklidné, jestli mi rozumíte. Každý ze songů je samostatným opusem, přesto vše drží v pevném a komplexním celku. Nahrávku jsem nejčastěji poslouchal velmi brzy ráno, když město ještě spalo. Právě byl zatčen člověk, zrůda, která vraždila v ulicích. Chodil jsem náhodou na stejných místech a můžu vám říci, že mě mrazilo v zádech. Netušil jsem, že se zde stalo něco hrozného. Přesně takový pocit mám i z letošní desky "Du dømmes til Død". Zmínit musím i to, že jsou texty v norštině, které nerozumím ani slovo. Přesto mi přijde, že rozumím každé sloce, každému rýmu. Hudba zde spojuje všechny přízraky, prokleté i démony. O KHOLD to platí na sto procent. To vám klidně podepíšu vlastní krví. Pokud máte rádi hudbu po okraj narvanou kousky ledu a zkaženou krví, tak neváhejte ani chvilku. Jedná se o velmi povedenou záležitost po všech stránkách. Zlověstný, mrazivý, temný black metal z dalekého severu! Budete se dívat do obličeje těch, kteří jdou na smrt!

You never smiled as a kid. No friends, just pain and misery. You'd stare into the darkness and think about how you'd hurt everyone. It started with dead animals. A fascination with blood. You became a shadow, an evil conscience. Your eyes glowed with hatred. Violence, killing, humiliation. You liked to stare into the eyes where death came. Slowly, with a rope around your neck. Now you sit here and you don't understand what happened. Killing is your nature. In the last days before your execution, you think of more horrible fantasies.

Norwegian black metallers KHOLD deal with people condemned to death on their new album. They go deep into their country's history in this area. An interesting theme that perfectly complements the already dark and cold atmosphere. This is iron forged by the best. I recommend visiting the execution site in your town while listening. The experience will be all the more poignant, intense, powerful and mysterious.


It is no secret that the band is composed of all experienced and great musicians. Of course I have to mention their work in bands like SARKE, TULUS, SATYRICON. And it is to the last legend that I would compare KHOLD. Then also to DARKTHRONE. Gentlemen are very pure and real about it. Listening to the new album "Du dømmes til Død" is like sitting on death row and wondering what it's like to die hanging from the gallows. The Norwegians are mostly in the middle and slower tempos. This makes the chilling atmosphere fully stand out. This is of course helped by the excellent sound and packaging as always. All the tracks gradually get into your veins. They are like poison that is dosed to make you die with terror in your eyes. The simple fact is that the new album is very easy to listen to. Sort of naturally, easily. Yet it's unsettling, if you know what I mean. Each of the songs is a standalone opus, yet everything holds together in a tight and complex whole. I mostly listened to the recording very early in the morning when the city was still sleeping. A man had just been arrested, a monster who was murdering in the streets. I happened to walk in the same places, and I can tell you, I got chills down my spine. I had no idea that something terrible had happened here. That's exactly the feeling I got from this year's album "Du dømmes til Død". I must also mention that there are lyrics in Norwegian, which I don't understand a word of. Yet I feel like I understand every verse, every rhyme. The music here connects all the ghosts, the damned and the demons. This is true of KHOLD one hundred percent. I'll sign it with my own blood. If you like your music packed to the brim with chunks of ice and tainted blood, don't hesitate a moment. This is a very successful affair all round. Sinister, frosty, dark black metal from the far north! You'll be looking into the faces of those who are going to die!

Ave BOMBARDER! Greetings, my friends. When I got my first metal album on cassette from my cousin in 1988, you guys had already been playing for two years. I'm sorry to start from the beginning, but I think we have a lot in common. We both grew up in former socialist countries, we both started metal in times that were very turbulent. I was wondering what band did you first hear and how did the idea of starting BOMBARDER come about?

Hello there! Yes, we started middle 80’s and it was great time here back then. Yugoslavia wasn’t into CCCCP so we were something in between East and West. We had all official LP licenses of metal, rock releases etc. There were many bands back then and scene was huge. We liked then of course Motorhead, Exciter, Rave. Many old demos circulated here so listened many of these oldschool speed thrash bands.


You probably had a similar musical development to me. For me personally, the encounter with SODOM music was absolutely crucial. It was the speed, the rawness, the power, the fury. We were walking around the estate with cassette players on our shoulders. We were hanging out in the tenements. You know, pretty girls, lots of beer and metal. It was a good time. But then the revolution came. It was pretty peaceful here, but you started the war on March 31st. How did it affect you? I read somewhere (I hope I'm not mistaken) that you had to leave Bosnia and Herzegovina for Serbia? It must have been terrible.

Sodom were killer, yes we liked them as well. Sure, split up of Yugoslavia wasn’t peaceful as Czechoslovakia. Here everything ended in bloody war for many years and caused many pain and devastation. War is shit, I hate war and I hate politicians and big wordwide guns who make profits on wars and start them all around the globe! I wish them sure and painful death! Since middle 90’s I live in Belgrade, Serbia and Bombarder is active here until nowadays.

We had a friend in our group who was from Croatia. Both his parents died in the war and a couple in our town adopted him. So we had all the first-hand information. I remember tapes of bands like HELLER, EVIL BLOOD. It was a beautiful time, albeit a wild one. Lots of memories. Anyway, what bands influenced you in your early days? What about the gigs at that time? In our country, it was mainly in community centres.

Old Yugoslavian bands as Heller, Evil Blood, Sarcasm, Annathema, Ludilo, Epidemic Zone.... many bands played extreme speed thrash back then. Also lather death metal as Bloodbath, Mortuary, Necrophobia... We had many shows and big metal festivals in big halls with couple of thousands of visitors as Balkan Horror Opera, YU Metal Attack etc.


In our country, it was always said that if a band was good, they played with their hearts. Somehow that attitude has stayed with me to this day. I have to believe in the music and the new BOMBARDER album is exactly the kind of raw ride to hell that I love. I listen to more death metal nowadays, but when I heard "Sa dna dna graba" for the first time, I knew - fuck, this is it! How was the album made? Was the approach different than last time? I find the record more raw, faster.

Yes, Sa dna groba is more brutal and raw. It is inspiration we got from the world around us. Look at what’s happening at many places in this rotten planet? Just pain and missery, death and evil...We feel all this, we can’t be calm and positive when so many are suffering around. Sa dna groba is oda to nowadays!

Are you singing in Bosnian or Serbian, Croatian? The translator shows me a different language every time. As a Czech, I understand the content of the lyrics, but I don't understand everything. Can you please tell us where did you get the inspiration for the lyrics? Who is the author and how were they created?

Back in Yugoslavia we all spoke Serbocroatian. Nowadays this is the same language but everybody is calling this different... Stupid people with stupid rules... As I said in previous answer, inspiration is everywhere around us.


The sound is excellent! No doubt about it. Old school, raw, rough, animalistic. It really reminds me of the 90's recordings. Where did you record? Who's responsible for the mastering and mixing? Look, let's face it, this is a massacre!

Thank you for your words! We all like the final result and it’s great. We recorded as previous time in Citadela Studio and our guitarist Luka Matkovic is producer. Many domestic bands record their albums in his studio. It is like center of Serbian metal scene.

I used to go to the former Yugoslavia for holidays. You know, the sea, beer (of course Karlovačko, Ožujsko, and Rakije in the evening), I love it here. I have beautiful memories from my childhood, but even today, when I go to the sea, I always relax. You have beautiful nature and women, but to be honest I don't meet many metalheads here. Maybe they are hidden in the hinterland, but what is it like with extreme metal in your country? Recently I interviewed METUZALEM from Croatia and they told me that it is a terrible problem to organize a concert, to find musicians? What do you think?

Heh probably metalheads don’t like sea side and hot weather:)). Here in Serbia there are several centers of good scene as Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac and there it’s not problem to organize shows. Also there are many, many young bands and they all ;play very often on single shows or small local festivals. But also big festivals as Exit festival in Novi Sad.


You are rightly considered a legend. You have a long history. Is there anything else you would like to achieve? To play a big festival? Or go on tour? I'd love to see you somewhere, have a beer and get my head bashed in.

Thank you. I don’t consider myself as a legend but younger meatlheads think that. I like to support all of them and when ever I can I do this. For me personally it’s important to push the band further, play good shows and some nice festivals. No, tours are not so into my plans. I’m older and it’s not so easy. But I prefer to concentrate on quality single shows and festival shows. I’d like to play in Czech, that’s for sure!

In Bombarder III you have a guest appearance by Per "Hellbutcher" Gustavsson from NIFELHEIM, NECROCURSE. How did you guys get together in the first place?

Hellbutcher is a huge fan of Bombarder. He with his band recorded cover version of Speed Metal song for Hail to Bombarder tribute and since then we are in touch. When we invited him to be guest on our new song he immediately agreed and he did a great work there. I’m very proud on this cooperation. Also we recorded Sodomizer cover as paying our respect to almighty Nifelheim!

Everybody started somehow. Who was your musical role model in the 90s? I remember it was quite difficult to find instruments, tablature, everything. What was your first gig as a fan? And what was your first one on stage? Please reminisce.

Sure, it wasn’t so easy to organize everything for the band back in 80’s but we made it with help of other older rock and metal musicians from the scene who were already in big heavy metal bands etc. Some of first shows were big concerts of Yugoslavian heavy rock bands from early 80’s as Divlje Jagode, Atomsko Skloniste etc.... I can’t remember exactly our first show but it was in Sarajevo. Crazy and wild meatl energy it was!


I think you'll agree with me that metal is a curse. People around me don't get it, even after all these years. It's still worth buying new records, T-shirts, going to shows. For me personally, this music is a relaxation, a way to survive. How do you feel about metal? What does this music give you and why do you listen to it?

Metal is my life 100% and thanx to metal I stayed normal and survived all these hellish war years back in 90’s. Bombarder is my power and my life energy.

Necessary question at the end. What is BOMBARDER going to do in the next few months? If you want to say something to the fans, here is the space.

This year we will dedicate to promotion of Sa dna groba album. Soon CD and cassette will be released and then later LP as well. We will play selected promotional shows and make hell on the stage!
