Z dříve veselého kluka se postupně stával zachmuřený pán. Jakoby zestárnul, schoulil se do sebe. Když jste ho potkali, vaše první otázky směřovaly na nalomené zdraví. Postupně se mu všichni začali vyhýbat. Nikdo se nedovedl podívat do jeho černých očí. Zračil se v nich strach smíchaný s nenávistí.

Příběhy plné podivných znamení, rouhání, šílenství a bolesti se odehrávají i na nové desce portugalských GOLDENPYRE. Pro její pochopení je nutné se přenést do devadesátých let minulého století, oprášit staré death thrashové postupy a soustředit se plně na všechen ten hnis, který z nahrávky vytéká. Říká se, že v jednoduchosti je síla. Tentokrát, u poslechu "In Eminent Disgrace", se stávají kruté vize nechutnou pravdou a já musím novinku ocenit řádem všech padlých kněží. Působí na mě jako jed, tajemné zaříkávání, zlá mantra, vyřčená s oprátkou oběšence v ruce. 

Pěkně zatuchlý a "nepříjemný" je zvuk celého alba, na kterém nalezneme jen ty nejvybranější kousky zla. První setkání s touto deskou nedopadly příliš dobře, ale nakonec si mě získala. Pomalu, postupně, jako zasychající krev po čerstvé vraždě. Najednou člověk potkával jen samé lidi s pokřiveným charakterem, kteří neměli daleko k výbuchům vzteku. Všichni jsme poslouchali  "In Eminent Disgrace" a doufali, že peklo konečně otevře svoje brány a pohltí nás. Až na věky, amen! Stejně jako nové album GOLDENPYRE. Portugalský death metal, který obrací kříže směrem dolů. Takhle nějak vypadá zlo z dávných dob. Velmi dobře!

"In Eminent Disgrace" je temným poselstvím z onoho světa. Pokud bychom hledali nějaké vyslance záhrobí, museli bychom zákonitě narazit na death metalisty GOLDENPYRE. Fascinuje mě přístup, jakých uchopila kapela staré smrtící pořádky, přetransformovala je to dnešní doby a stvořila album, které připomíná rozzuřené monstrum. Peklo opravdu existuje! Novinka těchto maniaků je toho jasným důkazem. Narovnejte prašivé kosti do úhledných hromad, otevřete dveře do záhrobí a povolejte nemrtvé! Maniakální uctívači old school death/thrash metalu jsou zde! Řvou mocně, hlasitě a jejich hlas je podobný samotné Bestii. Skvělé nápady, temná a zlá atmosféra, naléhavost, dravost. Tohle všechno dělá z posledního CD GOLDENPYRE absolutně zahnívající záležitost. Album bylo nahráváno snad někde v podzemí, v opuštěných chodbách vedoucích do obrovské márnice. Old school death/thrash metal, který vás na věky prokleje! Smrt je při poslechu velmi blízko! Zlo přichází. Excelentní nahrávka!

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play , etc.?

Matt: Hails! KALOPSIA is a death metal band founded in NJ, USA in 1999. We combine American brutality, Swedish melody, thrash and hardcore into a potent mix of heavy, catchy metallic mayhem! 

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

Matt: Our new album “Angelplague” was recorded, mixed and mastered by Bobby Torres at Frightbox Studios in Clifton, NJ, USA. He knocked it out of the park!

How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

Matt: “Angelplague” was released on CD and digital by Horror Pain Gore Death Productions (http://hpgd.bandcamp.com/). Proper Death Records is pressing vinyl, 400 black and 100 red (http://properdeath.bigcartel.com/). Any cassette labels, get in touch! 

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with? 

Matt: I write the lyrics. This album is centered around the themes of sickness, death and religion. I lost some people close to me over the course of making this record, and dealing with concerns like “burial or cremation” and the religious rituals around death. I’m atheist but my family is not. So those themes were very much stirring under the surface. “Destined to Return” is about accepting death. “Christened Upon the Slab” is about the business side of death. How for some people, a body is a body. You can’t do an autopsy on a person, you have to do it on a body. “Scorched Earth and Blackened Skies” is about how we build things over the course of our lives in defiance of our mortality, but in the end it gets washed away by the sands of time. It’s not a concept album, but these themes are weaved throughout. 

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important? 

Matt: Everything we do is DIY. So we find the artists, give them direction and go from there. Aditia Wardhana did the great artwork for this album, which we used for the redesigned website. I cobbled together the site. We all share social media responsibilities. If I’ve learned anything with this record it’s the importance of having a strong press presence, including social media. Great music that the fans don’t hear doesn’t really count for much. Plus social media is a way for fans to connect with us, which is great.

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takes care about you?

Matt: Horror Pain Gore Death Productions is handling the CD, while Proper Death is handling vinyl. Both labels are doing an awesome job getting the music out there. They are small labels, and they are fueled with a passion for the music. 

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

Matt: Back when we started, it was all about Morrisound and Sunlight Studios, the classic bands from both sides of the pond, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Malevolent Creation, Grave, Dismember, Suffocation, Internal Bleeding, etc. as well as NJ and NY area hardcore, Merauder, All Out War, For the Love Of…, Hatebreed, etc. Over the years everything’s gotten mixed together leading to what we know of as our sound. This is our third full length, so it’s a fusion of ideas that drove the first two. 

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

Matt: We went straight to Horror Pain Gore Death. Mike had heard the demos and worked with the other guys on the first Hammer Fight record, so we knew it was going to be a good fit.

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best? 

Matt: We’ve played a lot of club gigs. I like both settings. A packed club has a raw intensity that you can feel. In a festival setting you’re almost background music for a party, but it’s so huge that it’s otherworldly. I’m into it as long as people are into it. 

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

Matt: We’ve all been musicians for a really long time, so for us keeping the thing going is just fun. We will be releasing a remixed and remastered version of “Amongst the Ruins” in 2018, followed by a new album, which is currently being written.

Stojím před obrovským plátnem a měl bych začít malovat jedno krásné mrtvé tělo. Beru do ruky štětec a pečlivě vybírám z pestré palety posledního alba italských insania.11. Stávám se šíleným malířem a snažím se zachytit nepřeberné množství energie, chladu a odlidštěnosti. Mám pocit, že moje studená modelka dělá totéž.

Na počátku byl chaos a asi i insania.11. Progresivní death metalisté, kteří ve své tvorbě kombinují smrt a thrashcore. Textům nerozumím, jsou v italštině, přesto mám neodbytný pocit, že jsme s kapelou vzájemně spojeni zvláštním poutem. Není lehké z počátku uchopit všechen ten neklid a černou energii, ale pokud dáte nahrávce čas, podmaní si vás sama. Pořád a stále mám chuť - být malířem morbidních obrazů.

"Di sangue e di luce" mi připomíná více než cokoliv jiného tlukot srdce, na které se koukáte při operaci. Je chladné, tepající, svým způsobem fascinující. Mám rád hudbu jako celek a vybírám si ji labužnicky a s chutí. insania.11 prošli mým sítem bez jakékoliv ztráty. Hodnotím je vysoko, jsou pro mě zrcadlem, bránou do nekonečného světa fantazie. Líbí se mi zvuk, nápady i provedení. Občas jsou sice skladby příliš dlouhé, ale to mi nijak nebrání si album vychutnat jako dobrou krmi. Pokud tedy máte podobné chutě a rádi u muziky přemýšlíte, tak neváhejte ani chvilku. Líbí se  mi, když je kapela něčím odlišná, originální, má vlastní výraz. A insania.11 splňují vše bezezbytku. Skvělá deska!

"Di sangue e di luce" mi připomíná tlakový hrnec, až po okraj naplněný extrémními nápady. Nechybí ani melodie a odlehčené pasáže. Po nějaké době nádoba praskne a nám bude umožněno se setkat s gejzírem riffů, různých zvuků, valících se pasáží i komplikovaných momentů. Album je tak určeno všem příznivcům progresivity, hudební nekorektnosti a šílenství. insania.11 jsou nejvíc extrémní právě v tom, že se vymykají všem obvyklým představám o hudbě. Pánové před námi roztáčí pestrý kolotoč neotřelých, barevných melodií. Nenechte se ale mýlit, nahrávka je zároveň velmi ostrá, kořeněná. Připomíná pozření té nejchladnější chilli papriky. Vítejte v továrně na radost i bolest! Extrémní záležitost pro labužníky! Vřele doporučuji všem, kdo se rádi nechávají unášet na vlnách šílené a kruté progrese!

"Di sangue e di luce" reminds me a autoclave full of extreme ideas. It is not lack of melodies and light passages. After some time the autoclave is going to crush and we will be able to see a torrent of sounds, rolling passages and complicated moments. So, this album is for fans of progressivity, incorrect music and madness. insania.11 are extreme because they are beside every ordinary ideas of music. These guys are able to roll a colorful whirligig of unordinary, colorful melodies. However, this record is very shape at the same time and spicy. It reminds me eating the hottest chili pepper in the world. Welcome to factory of happiness and hurt! Extreme thing for true fans! I have to recommend it to all of you who like to listen crazy and cruel progress!

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play , etc.?

Hi. We are insania.11 and we are a two people combo at now. We played together since 1989 whe the band was just „insania“ and we played some kind of death oriented thrashcore. „Insania“ splitted in 1997. in the beginning of 2008 (11 years after) we started thinking about a new project. We tried to recover the original line-up but something changend in the band’s balance. So in the end of 2014 me and Ethrum decided to go on with a project-studio. At now insania.11 plays a technical thrash/death metal.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

We did everything at home and at the reharsal rooms, with just two laptops, some audio devices and a lot of work. Recording/mixing/mastering was all up to us. A total DIY attitude.

„di sangue e di luce“ EP was first released in september 2016 as a Digital Release (free streaming on Reverbnation/Soundcloud + Store at Bandcamp), then in Genuary 2017 we printed a limited pro-CD edition (200 copies)

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with ?

Lyrics are totally my fault. Written in italian language (but there is a non literal english translation in the booklet) the lyrics are brutal and bloody metaphors about human condition. About the EP „di sangue e di luce“ we tell about the attempt of H.U.Man to go far beyond his phisical boundaries to became pure light. He practises a strange self mutilating ritual. Of course this will not work properly. And there will be horrible consequences.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

logo+graphics are usually on my back with Ethrum approval. About social networks, we do our best to use them to spread our music. But we starve to come back playing live that is the best thing a musician can do. The website is quite frozen. But i hope there will be something new before august. At now our reference is the Facebook page.

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

We are unsigned at now. Of course we need some help do spread the name and the music. We would like to thank you and all the great peoplelike you that rule a webzine for the huge help you give to the very underground bands like us.

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

(samaang)

this is a hard question, you know: i started listening heavy metal in 1984 (yes, you read right) so i have too many bands to mention. I always looked for something faster and heavier and obscure. Just to give you some fresh names and some coordinates: Obscura+Behemoth+Dark Funeral. But frankly it’s difficult to recognize them in our music.

Difficult answer also for me. More inspirations and preferences are related to the early bands of the past as Megadeth, Slayer, Pestilence, Atheist, Coroner, Death, Carcass and many many others. But also included Pink Floyd, Queensryche, Dream Theater and similar. At the moment i like bands like Obscura, Meshuggah,.

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

no sending to labels at now. We are writing/composing some new fresh songs for e new EP. Maybe we’ll propose that one to some labels. Honestly we would like to complete the crew before (a real drummer+bass player+sinth player) and re-starting playing live.

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

ups. This one is our „pain in the ass“ question. As „insania“ we played almost 50 gigs in the 90’s, usually in little clubs/micro festivals in the north of italy. At now „insania.11“ is just a studio-project

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

re-found a real crew capable to set on fire every stage, we are back to stay so, we’ll go on writing and playing fast and cruel death/thrash metal for your pleasure. This is the only thing that matters and that we want to achieve.

Asphyxovy zápisky - Ahoj Klárko...

Úvod:

Asphyxovy zápisky jsou krátkými povídkami, nad kterými jsem přemýšlel již dlouho. Občas mě něco napadne. Sem tam mám chuť sepsat pár postřehů ze současnosti. Jen tak si chodím, pozoruji život a pak najednou nadejde čas a musím usednout k počítači. Snad se budou líbit. 

Ahoj Klárko...

Ahoj Klárko, já se ti hrozně omlouvám, ale napsat jsem o tobě jednoduše musel. Jestli si dobře vzpomínáš, tak poprvé jsme se potkali někdy před rokem, když jsem šel s dětmi ven. Ten tvůj malej, bílej a třínohej čoklík zrovna vykonával velkou potřebu u nás za barákem na trávníku. "Doufám, že si po sobě to hovno uklidíte": zuřivě a nevrle jsem zakřičel, protože mi mí potomci občas něco vyšlápnou.

Pak si vyjela na vozíku mezi nás a omluvně se na mě usmála. "Ano, uklidím": zašeptala si a já se zastyděl, jako snad nikdy. Dali jsme se do řeči, já vzal igelitový pytlík a to megahovno (kde se to v těch psech bere?) sebral. "Vy posloucháte metal?": zeptala si se najednou. Měl jsem na sobě tričko ENTRAILS a byla si první za řekněme rok, která z "obyčejných smrtelníků - metalistů i nemetalistů" kapelu znala.

Vybudovali (někdy možná skřípavě) jsme si myslím, velmi hezký vztah. Já se snažil být vždycky vtipný, ty pokaždé černo hororově jedovatá a nasmál jsem se s tebou jako s nikým jiným. Nikdy jsme nemluvili o tý hnusný nespravedlivý nemoci, i když tvoje máma pořád brečela a já nevěděl, co bych mohl ještě tak udělat, aby ses cítila lépe. 

Probíral jsem s tebou nové desky, občas machroval, že jsem z titulu svého věku slyšel v dávných časech kdysi nahrávky, které jsou dodnes klasikou. Párkrát jsem tě s vozíkem překulil nešikovně přes obrubník a odřel ti lokty do krve. A ty si se smála, nadávala mi a snad si byla alespoň chvilku šťastná.

Ten tvůj ošklivej vlezlej bílej čokl, který má oči jako vzteklý korálky, na mě pořád štěkal. Ne, nesedli jsme si a já hrozně moc lituju, že už jsem ti nestačil splnit tvůj sen  - ještě alespoň jednou zažít pořádný metalový koncert. Nemoci jsou svinstvo a ta tvoje obzvlášť, ale bojovala si velmi statečně. Ovlivnila si můj život a "přinutila" mě si vážit důležitých věcí. Teď už ti můžu všechno napsat (i když si mi říkávala: "Opovaž se!"). Moje malá princezna na tebe žárlila, jak už to dcery otců dělávají. A měla by na co, tedy být já mladší a ty hodně shovívavá k mým náladám. 

Hele, jako na rovinu, byla si kočka, oproti mě mládě, sotva 26 leté, ale přesto dospělá ženská, s krásným úsměvem a hlavou srovnanou tak, že jsem někdy tvé myšlenky nestíhal. Pamatuješ na ten zběsilý výlet na Krkavec? V bahně, dešti? Jak jsem dostal od tvé mámy málem výprask? To jsem tlačil vozík snad potřetí v životě. 

Byla si a navždy budeš mojí největší fanynkou. Kde já bych bláhový vůbec někdy přemýšlel nad tím, že to moje psaní o metalu bude mít takovou odezvu. Nevím, jak ti poděkovat a teď už je to vlastně jedno, protože si má slova už nebudeš moc nikdy přečíst. Jenže já musel všechno sepsat, podobná setkání se stávají totiž snad jen ve filmech.

Budu si asi ještě dlouho vyčítat, že jsem s tebou nebyl častěji, ale znáš to...mám rodinu, mám práci a taky bych měl prý někdy odpočívat. Říkala si mi, abych napsal knihu, abych už dělal jen věci, které mám rád a abych si vážil toho, co mám. Občas, jako asi každý, trošku na tyhle "samozřejmé" věci zapomínám.

Když mi tvoje máma mezi dveřmi odpověděla na moje: "Dobrý den...pustíte se mnou Klárku ven?" jen pláčem, věděl jsem své. Sesul jsem se dolů, jako hromádka karet a pouštěl si přes týden jen samý doom metal. Tvůj odchod mě hrozně vzal Klárko, to si piš a ne že ne, protože mi moc chybíš. 

Měla si ráda metal, moji ženu, děti a toho svýho vošklivýho psa. A taky ti to pokaždé slušelo a měla si moc hezkej zadek. Vidím tě u nás na rohu, hned vedle dětského hřiště, jak se šineš jako nějaká loď pomalu dopředu. Ta svině příroda ti nedala zdraví a dlouhej život, ale měla si v sobě spoustu síly, kterou mnozí z nás nemají. Asi bys mi řekla, že jsem ukecanej a ať si dám radši pivo a pustím nějakou novou desku, než abych si tady plácal játra, ale já jednoduše nemohl jinak.

Protože si byla mladá hezká holka a já chlápek někde tak v polovině (snad) svého života, protože si byla milá, chytrá, úžasná, netrpělivá, šílená, pro mě dokonalá. Protože, když mě něco štvalo, jen ty a má žena si mi dokázala pomoc - měla si na mě hromosvodný účinek, protože si mě četla a povzbuzovala. Protože si mě naučila trpělivosti. Protože si se nechtěla nikdy fotit. Protože si prostě byla a už nejsi.

Recenze/review - AZARATH - In Extremis (2017)

Ave AZARATH! Poslouchám vaši letošní novinku „In Extremis“ už nějaký čas a pořád v ní objevuji pro sebe nové a nové kousky temnoty. Přiznám se, že jsem od vás čekal dobré řemeslo, ale že mě takhle rozsekáte, tak to ne. Album se podle mě opravdu povedlo. Jaké máte reakce od fanoušků, co recenze?

BART: Ave! Děkujeme! Máme od fanoušků opravdu skvělý feedback. Dostali jsme spoustu emailů a zpráv, komentářů ohledně tohoto alba. Recenze jsou většinou dobré, nebo velmi dobré. Takže nemůžeme být spokojenější, když je někdo další mimo nás, komu se naše tvorba líbí.

Hráli jste už některé songy z novinky na koncertě? Jak fungují na fanoušky? Máte už nějaký potencionální hit? Osobně bych si tipnul druhou skladbu „Let My Blood Become His Flesh“.

BART: Ano, máš dobrý odhad.:) Na Inferno Festivalu jsme hráli „Let My Blood Become His Flesh“ společně s „At the Gates of Understanding“. Pro nadcházející koncerty chceme hrát „Annihilation“ a „Slain God“. Takže tohle jsou písně, které jsme zvolili pro koncerty do blízké budoucnosti.

V death metalu se občas zapomíná na texty. Vy zpíváte o temnotě, smrti, satanismu. O čem jsou texty na novém albu a kdo je jejich autorem? Snažíte se jimi něco sdělit, předat nějaké poselství?

BART: Hlavním tématem tohoto alba je smrt. Nejlepší způsob jak pochopit samotnou pointu je trávit s albem trochu času. Všechny texty byly psány napůl s Necrosodom a Malahida (náš kamarád).

Novinka má opravdu hodně temný, ostrý zvuk. Přesto lehce odlišný od předchozích alb. Podepsán je pod ním tentokrát Haldor Grunberg. Proč ta změna? Minule jste nahrávali u slavných Wieslawskich. Osobně nemám ke zvuku připomínky, ale zaslechl jsem i názory, že jsou bicí moc vytažené dopředu a že není tolik slyšet vokál.

BART: Album jsme nahrávali v několika nahrávacích studiích s několika zvukovými inženýry. Vyloženě každý nástroj v jiném studiu. A nakonec, když byly všechny nástroje nahrané, přesunuli jsme se do Mag Studia a dali všechno dohromady s Haldorem Grunbergem/Satanic Audio. Chtěli jsme temný a ostrý zvuk s velmi mocnými a živě znějícími bubny. Nemyslím si, že by bubny byly moc napřed. Prostě znějí hodně mocně a živě, ne plasticky jako z počítače, jako u mnoha nahrávek. Pokud mluvíme o vokálech, tak jsem taky slyšel, že jsou moc hlasité. Takže vidíš, že je prostě sto lidí a sto chutí. Všechno je založeno na osobních pocitech.

Album má skvělý obal. Autorem je Marta Promińska. Proč právě ona? Musím říct, že tentokrát cover přesně vyjadřuje to, co se na novince odehrává. Je chladný, syrový, drsný, stejně jako hudba na „In Extremis“. Jak jste motiv vybírali? Bylo to z už připravených prací nebo Marta Promińska slyšela vaši hudbu a nechal se jí inspirovat? Na minulou desku vytvořil obal Zbigniew Bielak. Proč ta změna?

BART: To rád slyším! Marta je Infernova žena a byla u celého procesu nahrávání. Od té doby co jsme začali pracovat s kytarami, což já s Infernem vždycky děláme na začátku celého procesu, hrajeme riffy společně několikrát u nich doma, až do té doby než jsme začali zkoušet a měli připravené texty. Takže Marta byla inspirována během celého procesu a přesně vystihla celkové téma alba. A musím říct, že pro nás bylo inspirující, jak se malba rozvíjela. Jsme velmi pyšní na tenhle obal a také spokojeni.

Chvíli po vydání alba jsem se dočetl, že od vás odchází zpěvák a kytarista Necrosodom. Nikde jsem ale nezjistil proč? Rovnou se nabízí i otázka, co bude dál? Sháníte někoho jiného? A jak to bude se živými vystoupeními?

BART: Bylo to společné rozhodnutí. Důvod byl prostý, když něco nefunguje tak jak má, tak nemůžeme pokračovat a unavuje nás to. Takže nejlepší řešení bylo přestat hrát. Abych to ujasnil, odvedl skvělou práci na tomhle albu a je určitě skvělý muzikant. Ale naše spolupráce prostě nefungovala na osobní bázi. Takže kolem poloviny května jsme začali spolupracovat s Martinem „Skullripperem“ z EMBRIONAL a ten se teď stará o naše vokály a kytaru. Bude s námi hrát nadcházející koncerty a pak se rozhodne.

Mezi letošní deskou a minulou „Blasphemers' Maledictions“ uběhlo dlouhých šest let. Proč vlastně tak dlouho? Nebyl čas, peníze, nápady?

BART: Jsme nezávislá kapela a pracovat pod tlakem a labelem pro nás není moc pohodlné. Nahráváme, když je veškerá hudba připravená a jsme s tím 100% spokojeni. Začali jsme album nahrávat v březnu 2016 a mixing a mastering jsme dělali v listopadu 2016. Takže mezi alby nás dělí dlouhých 5 let. Když jsme měli album hotové, začali jsme oslovovat labely a nakonec jsme podepsali smlouvu s AGONIA Records.

Nejste zrovna kapelou, která by příliš často koncertovala. Nevím jak u vás v Polsku, ale na nějaké šňůře jsem vás už dlouho neviděl. Jak to máte vlastně s živým vystupováním? A zavítáte v brzké době také k nám do Čech?

BART: Ano, to byl prosinec 2011, když jsme byli na turné po Evropě s Marduk a Triptykon. My moc často nehrajeme, ale snažíme se hrát co nejvíc. Mimo Inferno máme ještě všichni normální práci a žijeme každý v jiné části Polska. Pořád se držíme myšlenky živého vystoupení bubeníků a to není úplně snadné, abychom hráli nějak často. Pojedeme na turné po Evropě v září, ale nevím, jestli jsme do plánu zahrnuli i Českou republiku.

Jste už dnes pamětníci. Když porovnáš vaše začátky a současnost, změnila se doba hodně? Myslím tím teď přístup fanoušků, labelů, promotérů apod. Často slýchávám, že „už to není takové, jako to bývalo“. Co si o tom myslíš ty?

BART: V současnosti je obrovské množství fanoušků na sociálních médiích a emailu. Na začátku (začátek 90 let, když jsme začínali) tak se posílaly osobní dopisy a to mělo určitý šarm, jestli víš, co tím myslím. Koncerty byly divočejší a nikdy si se nemohl připravit na to, co přijde. Dnes je všechno profesionální nebo skoro profesionální. Místa, zařízení, promotéři, všechno. Kontakt s labely, časopisy a promotéry je pro kapely mnohem jednodušší. Ale jde vlastně o to, že pokud máš metal v srdci a duši, tak ten čas a modernita vlastně vůbec nehrají roli.

Fenoménem současné doby je internet. Občas mi přijde, že někteří lidé ani jinde nežijí. Jaký vztah mají AZARATH ke stahování hudby? Spousta „fanoušků“ si hudbu už jen stáhne, na koncert kouknou na youtube a fyzické médium je pro něj jen záležitostí pro „starý fotry“. Zajímalo by mě, jak vnímáš tenhle „fenomén“ ty?

BART: Já si pořád kupuju CDčka. Samozřejmě že také používám internet a poslouchám alba na YouTube a online. Ale když se mi album líbí, koupím si ho. Taky se teď znovu vrací LP desky a jejich prodej se hodně zvyšuje. Možná, že je fyzické medium takový „old school“, něco pro starý fotry jak říkáš, ale s moderními postupy se nedá bojovat. Pokud někomu vyhovuje mít album v digitální podobě (stahování, spotify, itunes, atd.) tak to je jeho věc. A je vidět, že digitální prodej hudby je teď obrovskou součástí trhu. Ale jak říkám, já mám raději samotné album – ten obal, texty, celkovou grafiku. A taky miluju vůni čerstvě vybaleného alba.

Co chystají AZARATH v nejbližších měsících?

BART: 10. srpna hrajeme na Party San Open Air. Pak máme v září naplánovanou evropskou šnůru a polskou šnůru od září do října. Brzy budou oznámena všechna data.

Ave AZARATH! I have been listening your novelty named „In Extremis“ for some time and I am still discovering new and new pieces of darkness. To be honest I did expect a really good job from you, but I haven't expected that you will kick my ass as much as you did. I think that the album is really great. What feedback do you have from the fans, what about the reviews?

BART: Ave! Thanks a lot! We have really great feedback from the fans, and we got plenty of emails, messages or comments from them. The reviews are mostly good and very good. So we could be satisfied if someone else besides us likes our creations. 

Have you already played some songs from the novelty in concerts? What are the fans' reactions? Do you have any potential hit? My personal guess woult be the second piece, "Let My Blood Become His Flesh".

BART: Yes, your guess is good:) On Inferno Festival we’ve played “Let My Blood Become His Flesh” together with “At The Gates of Understanding”. For upcoming shows and tour we will also play “Annihilation” and “Slain God”. So those are the songs we’ve chosen to play live in the nearest future. 

Lyrics are sometimes being forgotten in death metal. You are singing about darkness, death, satanism. What are the lyrics on the new album about and who wrote them? Are you trying to communicate something by them, to convey some message?

BART: The main theme of this album is Death. The best way to understand the point is to spend some time with music and lyrics. All lyrics were written fifty-fifty by Necrosodom and Malahida (our friend). 

The new album has a really dark and sharp sound but still slightly different from previous albums. The album is signed by Haldor Grunberg, why this change? Your previous recordings was at famouse Wieslawskich. Personally, I have no comments on the sound, but I have heard the opinions that the drums are too forward and the vocal is not heard.

BART: We have recorded this album in several recording studios with several sound engineers, I mean each instrument in different studio. And finally with all recordings done we moved to Maq Studio to mix and master album with Haldor Grunberg/Satanic Audio. We’ve wanted to achieve dark and sharp sound with really powerful and live sounding drums. I won’t agree that drums are too forward. They just sound so powerful and live, not as plastic computer machine samples like in many present recordings. Talking about vocals I also heard that they are too loud, so you can see how different opinions, based on personal feelings, we can face :) 

The album has a great cover. The author is Marta Promińska. Why she? I have to say that the cover exactly expresses what's happening on the novelty. It is cool, raw, rough, as well as music on "In Extremis". How did you chose the theme? Was it from already prepared work or Marta Promińska heard your music and it inspired her? The last record cover made Zbigniew Bielak. Why this change?

BART: Great to hear that! Marta is Inferno’s wife so she was present at the whole creation process. Since we started guitars’ work, that me and Inferno always do at the beginning, playing riffs both together many times at their home, until recorded rehearsals and ready lyrics as well the whole album concept. So Marta was being inspired during all that time and I final work express exactly the main theme of the album. And I could say that seeing how the painting evolve was also inspiring for us. We are very proud and satisfied with this cover artwork. 

After the release of the album I read that the singer and guitarist Necrosodem is leaving. Nowhere did I find out why? There is also a question of what will happen next? Are you looking for someone else? And how will it be with live performances?

BART: Decision was made mutually. The reason is simple, if something is not working as it should, we cannot continue and getting tired of each other. So the best solution was to split-up. To make it clear, he did great job for this album and he is great musician. But our cooperation hasn’t worked well in personal issues.

So since about mid May we’ve started cooperation with Martin “Skullripper” from Embrional, who handle vocals/guitar from now. He will play all upcoming shows and tour with us and then we will made final decision. 

There has been a long six years between this album and the past "Blasphemers' Maledictions. Why, so long? Was not there time, money, ideas?

BART: We are an independent band, working under any pressure from any label and it’s very comfortable. We record when all music is ready to go and we are 100% satisfied with that. We started recording in March 2016,and mixed and mastered the album in November 2016, so there is 5 years between recordings process. When we had album ready we started talks with record labels and finally set up the deal with AGONIA Records. 

You're not a band that has performed too often. I do not know how in Poland, but I have not seen you on a tour for a long time. What about you and concerts? Will you also visit us in the Czech Republic in the near future?

BART: Yes, it was December 2011 when we toured Europe with Marduk and Triptykon. We don’t play often but we try as many as we can. Instead of Inferno we have ordinary jobs, we live in different areas of Poland, and we have to keep in mind our live session drummers schedule, so it is not easy logistically to play often. We will tour Europe in September, but I don’t know yet if Czech Republic is also planned. 

You are already witnesses today. When you compare your beginnings and the present, has the time changed a lot? I mean the approach of fans, labels, promoters. I often hear that "it's not the way it used to be." What do you think?

BART: At present you have big fans approach via social media, emails. At the beginnings (early 90’s as I started) there were personal traditional letters and they have a charm if you know what I mean. Shows were much more crazy, you could never expect what would happen. Nowadays everything is professional, or almost professional. Venues, equipment, promoters and all that stuff. Contact with labels, magazines, promoters is much easier, from the band point of view, and with the band as well from the others. The point is that if you have the metal in your heart and soul then elapsing time and present modernity really don’t matter. 

The phenomenon of the present era is the internet. Sometimes seems to me that some people do not live elsewhere. What is AZARATH's relationship to music downloads? Lots of "fans" just download music, watch the show on the youtube and the physical medium is just a matter for "old dudes". I wonder how do you perceive this "phenomenon" ?

BART: I still buy CDs. Of course I use the internet and listen to albums on youtube or online anywhere, but if I like the album I buy it. And we can notice nowadays the reborn of LPs, the selling of them is growing now. Maybe the physical medium is something like “old school”, for old dudies as you said, but we cannot fight with modern progress. If someone prefers to have the album digitally (downloading, spotify, itunes or so) it’s up to them. And it is noticeable that digital selling is big part of market nowadays. But as I said, I prefer to have the album and the booklet, lyrics, cover, graphics in physical form and I love the smell of just unpacked album. 

What about the plans of AZARATH in the upcoming months?

Bart: On 10th August we will play at Party San Open Air. Then for September European tour is planned as well Polish tour on Sept/October. All dates should be revealed soon.
