Vzpomínám na ty krásné časy, když jsem ještě chodíval na horory do kina. Abych nemusel doma sledovat kazety na VHS, tak jsem pokaždé vzal svoji tehdejší dívku a vydali jsme se kousek za město. Původně to bylo porno kino, ale o víkendech jsme zhlédli všechny klasické filmy. Měli jsme potom strach, aby neslezla vraždící monstra z plátna a nezačala nás pronásledovat ulicemi. Míval jsem vždycky takový divný pocit a lekal se každého stínu. Když jsem potom přišel domů, poslouchal jsem klasický death metal.
Britským GRAVE GHOUL se povedlo oba tyto mé koníčky zkombinovat, opatřit masivním, surovým zvukem, stylovým obalem a donést mi je na víku od rakve. Jedná se přesně o takový ten surový, prašivý masakr v márnici, který máme mi, staří death metaloví psi tolik rádi. Doporučuji poslouchat hodně nahlas a v naprosté tmě. V těchto momentech vynikne síla této kapely nejvíce.
GRAVE GHOUL mi připomínají zkušené řezníky, kteří se nebojí vyvrhnout i lidská těla. Berme prosím mé příměry s nadhledem. Ten k hororům a death metalu vždycky patřil. Líbí se mi, jak jsou skladby napsány, jak zní, jak se mi postupně dostávají pod kůži i do podvědomí. Připadám si při poslechu jako svázaný v nějaké temné kobce. Každý večer přijde on, ten s tou děsivou maskou. Šeptá mi podivná slova a pokaždé mi vyřízne kus masa z těla. Přesně takhle na mě působí i jednotlivé motivy této nahrávky. Britští gentlemani nejen, že perfektně zvládají své morbidní řemeslo, ale také přidávají něco navíc. Kus sebe samých, svého talentu pro záhrobní věci. Rád se k nahrávce vracím, oprašuji staré filmy, znovu se na ně dívám a i když jsou nedokonalé a filmovým kritikům přijdou jako z nižší kategorie, tak mají něco do sebe. Přesně jako tohle album. Jsou opravdové, uvěřitelné, reálné, autentické. Píšu to často, protože tohle jsou přesně ty věci, které mě na mrtvolné hudbě stále, i tolika letech, stále baví. Neznám nic lepšího, než si jen tak sednout, unavený po běžném dni, nasadit sluchátka a nebo jen tak nechat reproduktory, aby mi zaplnily pokoj krví. "Gruesome and Macabre" ale určitě neocení jen milovníci starých časů, které obejme nostalgie. Troufám si tvrdit, že naživo musí tahle smečka zabíjet. Je to přesně odrůda old schoolu, kterou mám tolik rád. Zde perfektně odvedená, navíc s krvavou touhou ničit. Jste fanoušci AUTOPSY, MORTICIAN, IMPETIGO? Potom neváhejte ani chvilku. Víte co? Jdu se podívat na nějakou klasiku od Fulciho a potom znovu zapnu play na svém přehrávači. Mokvající, syrový, krvavý death metalový horor s autentickou atmosférou! Mrtví znovu ožívají!

I remember those wonderful times when I used to go to the movies to watch horror films. So that I wouldn't have to watch VHS tapes at home, I would take my girlfriend at the time and we would head out of town. It used to be a porn theater, but on weekends we watched all the classic films. Afterwards, we were afraid that the murderous monsters would climb off the screen and start chasing us through the streets. I always had this strange feeling and was scared of every shadow. When I got home, I listened to classic death metal.
The British band GRAVE GHOUL managed to combine both of my hobbies, provide them with a massive, raw sound, stylish packaging, and deliver them to me on a coffin lid. It's exactly the kind of raw, mangy massacre in a morgue that we old death metal dogs love so much. I recommend listening to it very loudly and in complete darkness. That's when the power of this band shines through the most.
GRAVE GHOUL reminds me of experienced butchers who are not afraid to gut even human bodies. Please take my analogies with a grain of salt. Horror movies and death metal have always gone hand in hand. I like how the songs are written, how they sound, how they gradually get under my skin and into my subconscious. When I listen to them, I feel like I'm tied up in some dark dungeon. Every evening, he comes, the one with the terrifying mask. He whispers strange words to me and each time cuts a piece of flesh from my body. That's exactly how the individual motifs of this recording affect me. Not only do these British gentlemen perfectly master their morbid craft, but they also add something extra. A piece of themselves, their talent for otherworldly things. I like to return to the recording, dust off old movies, watch them again, and even though they are imperfect and film critics consider them to be of a lower category, they have something about them. Just like this album. They are real, believable, realistic, authentic. I write this often because these are exactly the things that I still enjoy about death metal, even after so many years. I know of nothing better than just sitting down, tired after a normal day, putting on my headphones or just letting the speakers fill my room with blood. But "Gruesome and Macabre" will certainly not only be appreciated by lovers of the old days who are embraced by nostalgia. I dare say that this band must kill live. It's exactly the kind of old school I love so much. Perfectly executed here, with a bloody desire to destroy. Are you fans of AUTOPSY, MORTICIAN, IMPETIGO? Then don't hesitate for a moment. You know what? I'm going to watch some Fulci classics and then press play on my player again. Oozing, raw, bloody death metal horror with an authentic atmosphere! The dead are coming back to life!
