A few questions - interview with death metal band from United States - PROTRUSION.

Answered Colin Foster (guitars, vocals), thank you!

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

- My name is Colin and my band Protrusion formed around 2021. We are formed by members of other bands from around our area like Sarcophagy, Emulsified, and Found Hanging. We basically play an early to mid 90s death metal style.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

- We recorded the album with Tony Tipton (Regurgitation) in his studio in Ohio. Tony handled the engineering, mixing and mastering, while the production and tone crafting was more collaborative in getting the sounds we wanted.

How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

- Two editions of the tape were made at 150 copies each, and the CD edition was 1000 copies. The upcoming LP version by Extremely Rotten Productions and Unholy Domain Records will be 600 vinyl double LP copies.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

- I write all the lyrics. Most of the lyrics are dark short stories that I composed. My goal is to write in a way that can be easily visualized or experienced, and I usually try to incorporate a sort of dark humored twist.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

- Our bass player John Elston designed our logo, and the artwork was created by Jon Zig. Social media is a total plague upon human civilization, but for a small band like us it is a necessary evil in order to promote ourselves the best we can.

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

- We chose Sevared Records for the CD edition of our album because of previous workings with that label. We also contacted Unholy Domain Records for the tape edition because of an ongoing relationship with them for our demo. Unholy Domain additionally introduced us to Extremely Rotten Productions and together we negotiated the vinyl edition. Iron Fortress Records contacted us shortly after and proposed a United States based edition of the cassette tape.

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

- We were heavily inspired by Morrisound Recordings albums produced by Scott Burns such as Gorguts - Considered Dead and Cannibal Corpse - Tomb of the Mutilated. However, we have a much longer list of inspirations that includes many American and Scandinavian bands.

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

- We didn't really go label shopping, and instead we relied on continuing using trusted labels that were already within our network.

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether its (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

- I've lost count. My best guess would be about 40 shows? Festivals are our favorite, but club shows can be fun too depending on the line-up.

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

- This Summer we are traveling to Denmark to perform at Extremely Rotten Death Fest 26. We plan to play a number of shows this year to promote the release of our debut album. We may also start writing new music soon. Ultimately, wejust want to have fun creating some old school death and utilizing our talents to express our inner darkness.

How and where can your fans contact you? Can you provide some contact information?

- We are on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Protrusiondeath and Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/protrusionofficial/. Fans may find our music and merch at https://protrusion.bandcamp.com/ for shirts, CDs, and more.
