Když našli u dálnice další zohavené tělo, tak všem přeběhl mráz po zádech. Jakoby byl slyšet nářek oběti, udušené během dlouhých hodin. Florida má nejen krásnou tvář plnou zajímavých přírodních útvarů, ale i jednu z nejděsivějších historií, co se týká sériových vrahů a death metalu. Jsem jedním z původních fanoušků MONSTROSITY, který uctíval kdysi dávno alba jako "Imperial Doom" nebo dodnes vynikající "Millennium". Věrný jsem zůstal i po jejich návratu, různých změnách sestav. Důkazem budiž recenze na minulou nahrávku, skvělý rozhovor s Lee Harrisonem, společné setkání v Praze na koncertě a následný report (vše je odkazováno dole pod článkem), ale hlavně sbírka CD, na kterou jsem dodnes hrdý.

Na téhle smečce se mi vždycky líbil jejich rukopis, originální výraz, který si kapela zachovala i na novince. Takové to starosvětské, surové DNA, které jsem měl u MONSTROSITY rád v devadesátých letech, je zde stále patrné. Nicméně oceňuji i to, že se kapela dále posouvá, přináší nové, modernější prvky. Letošní album je tak dalším zásekem, který bude mít v mé sbírce i srdci své pevné místo.

Floridské kapely měly vždy svoji vlastní, takovou zvláštně temnou atmosféru a kruté postupy, ďábelskost. To si MONSTROSITY stále zachovávají. Na pevných základech, u jejichž zrodu kdysi dávno sami stáli a vytvářeli je, staví další, pestré a košaté konstrukce. Navíc, a to já jako starý pes oceňuji asi nejvíce, se skladby velmi dobře poslouchají. V některých momentech jsou sice techničtější, nepřístupnější, ale stále zde vítězí motiv jako takový. Nedočkáte se dnes tolik častých, mnohdy zbytečných preludií. Naopak, každý, riff, úder bicích, výkřik do tmy, má své pevné místo. Jako celek potom řeže nová nahrávka do živého, má v sobě potřebný drive a pradávnou sílu, kterou máme všichni u klasického death metalu tolik rádi a pro kterou bychom umírali. I když odhlédnu od toho, že jsem pravověrný fanoušek a podívám se na novinku kritičtějším okem, tak nenacházím nic, co by mi chybělo. Povedl se masivní a surový zvuk, motiv na obalu a nesmím zapomenou ani na vynikající práci Eda Webba za mikrofonem. Album má v sobě takovou tu zuřivou živočišnost, je divoké, nespoutané a smete vás z povrchu zemského. Vlastně by se také dalo napsat, že MONSTROSITY dostáli svému jménu se ctí, odvedli morbidní práci jako v dobách svých počátků a zanechali mi v hlavě i podvědomí opět velmi hlubokou krvavou stopu. Už teď moc dobře vím, že se k "Screams from Beneath the Surface" budu rád a často vracet. Pokaždé, když mě bude mrazit v zádech z činů dalšího sériového vraha a pokaždé, když najdou v močálech čerstvě zohavené tělo. Za mě osobně letos přišla tahle legendární kapela s vynikajícím albem, které vás rozseká a rozemele na prach. To vám klidně podepíšu vlastní krví. Surová a temná definice floridského death metalu! Nahrávka, u které praskají kosti!

When another mutilated body was found by the highway, everyone felt a chill run down their spine. It was as if you could hear the cries of the victim, suffocated during long hours. Florida not only has a beautiful face full of interesting natural formations, but also one of the most terrifying histories when it comes to serial killers and death metal. I am one of the original fans of MONSTROSITY, who once worshipped albums such as "Imperial Doom" or the still excellent "Millennium". I remained loyal even after their return and various lineup changes. Proof of this can be found in my review of their last album, a great interview with Lee Harrison, a meeting in Prague at a concert and the subsequent report (all linked below the article), but mainly in my CD collection, which I am still proud of today.

I have always liked this band's style, their original expression, which they have retained on their new album. The old-school, raw DNA that I loved about MONSTROSITY in the nineties is still evident here. However, I also appreciate that the band continues to evolve, bringing new, more modern elements. This year's album is another milestone that will have a permanent place in my collection and in my heart.

Florida bands have always had their own unique, dark atmosphere and cruel methods, a certain devilishness. MONSTROSITY still retains this. On the solid foundations that they themselves laid long ago, they continue to build colorful and intricate structures. What's more, and this is what I, as an old dog, appreciate the most, the songs are very easy to listen to. At times, they are more technical and less accessible, but the motif as such still prevails. You won't find the often unnecessary preludes that are so common today. On the contrary, every riff, every drum beat, every scream into the darkness has its place. As a whole, the new recording cuts to the quick, with the necessary drive and ancient power that we all love so much in classic death metal and for which we would die. Even if I disregard the fact that I am a true fan and look at the new release with a more critical eye, I can't find anything missing. The massive and raw sound, the cover art, and, last but not least, Ed Webb's excellent work behind the microphone are all spot on. The album has a furious animalistic quality to it; it is wild, unrestrained, and will blow you off your feet. In fact, one could also say that MONSTROSITY lived up to their name with honor, doing morbid work as in their early days and leaving a very deep bloody mark in my mind and subconscious once again. I already know that I will gladly and often return to "Screams from Beneath the Surface". Every time I get chills down my spine from the deeds of another serial killer, and every time they find a freshly mutilated body in the swamps. For me personally, this legendary band has come out with an excellent album this year that will tear you apart and grind you into dust. I'll gladly sign that with my own blood. A raw and dark definition of Florida death metal! A recording that makes your bones crack!
