Na hřbitovech mě vždycky fascinoval zdánlivý klid. Tichá mlha, objímající hroby, šepot z márnice. Kříže, nahnuté na stranu. Jména, letopočty a data úmrtí. Líbí se mi tajemno, naprostá tma a nemrtví, kteří o půlnoci vylézají na povrch, aby tančili ve zběsilých rytmech. Možná a nebo právě proto mě kdysi dávno, na konci osmdesátých let, proklel hudební styl, který se nazývá death metal. Mám rád kapely, které hrají od srdce a nevadí mi trávit dlouhé hodiny v nekonečných katakombách poslechem nových nahrávek.
O švédských ALTAR OF OBEDIENCE jsem psal již v roce 2023. Album mě oslovilo nejen skvělým zvukem, ale hlavně velkou spoustou morbidních nápadů. Bylo tedy logické, abych se zase jednou vrátil domů a zavřel se do svého pokoje. Zapínám znovu a znovu play a mám pocit, že za rohem stojí samotný Satan. Umívá se. Není divu, hraje se zde i pro něj a pro všechny prokleté. Novinka je pokračováním věcí minulých a taky ostrým drápem, který do mě kapela zasekla.
Jakoby při poslechu "Dead and Devoured" začaly ožívat přízraky. Vystupují ze stínu, trhají mě na kusy, křičí na mě a stahují mě dolů, do hlubiny. Smrtící kov byl vždycky styl, který je hlavně o černých emocích, o černé magii, o hromadách zohavených mrtvol. To, co se bojíte říct nahlas a nebo na to jenom pomyslet, tak vkládají kapely jako ALTAR OF OBEDIENCE do své hudby a definují naprosté zlo, kterého je člověk schopen. Skladby na nové nahrávce jsou opět velmi dobře nahrány a složeny, mají poctivý, surový a chladný zvuk, řežou tou správnou stranou nože. Také by se dalo napsat, že tahle smečka splňuje všechny moje požadavky na poctivé, reálné, opravdové a naprosto autentické album, o kterém již teď vím, že se k němu budu rád a často vracet. Jedná se samozřejmě o ten nejhlubší underground, ve kterém dosud leží na kamenných deskách zohavené mrtvoly prokletých. Stačí ale znovu zapnout play a démoni se probouzejí. Touží po čerstvé krvi, po dalším ostrém riffu, morbidní melodii, po výkřiku do tmy. Novinku bych doporučil všem, kteří mají stejně jako já, slabost pro stará pohřebiště, pro tajemné hřbitovy, okultismus, pro krvavou mlhu. Pamatujete si ještě, proč jste kdysi dávno začali tenhle styl poslouchat? Zmuchlané kazety, dlouhé hodiny čekání na nová zásadní alba, čas strávený u reproduktorů? Pokud ano, tak potom je pro vás přesně tahle deska určena. Myslím si, že se jedná přesně o odrůdu, která je již několik dekád zakódována i do mého DNA. Za mě nelze jinak, než vám album doporučit. I’ve always been fascinated by the apparent calm of cemeteries. The quiet mist enveloping the graves, the whispers from the morgue. Crosses leaning to one side. Names, years, and dates of death. I like the mysterious, the pitch-black darkness, and the undead who crawl to the surface at midnight to dance to frenzied rhythms. Perhaps or perhaps precisely because of this I was once, long ago in the late eighties, captivated by a musical style called death metal. I like bands that play from the heart, and I don’t mind spending long hours in endless catacombs listening to new recordings.
I wrote about the Swedish band ALTAR OF OBEDIENCE back in 2023. The album appealed to me not only with its great sound but mainly with a wealth of morbid ideas. So it was only logical for me to return home once again and lock myself in my room. I hit play over and over, and I feel like Satan himself is standing right around the corner. He’s washing his hands. No wonder they’re playing here for him and for all the damned. This new release is a continuation of things past and also a sharp claw that the band has sunk into me.
It’s as if, while listening to "Dead and Devoured", ghosts begin to come to life. They step out of the shadows, tear me to pieces, scream at me, and drag me down into the depths. Death metal has always been a genre that’s primarily about dark emotions, black magic, and piles of mutilated corpses. What you’re afraid to say out loud or even think about, bands like ALTAR OF OBEDIENCE put into their music and define the absolute evil of which a human is capable. The tracks on the new record are once again very well recorded and composed; they have an honest, raw, and cold sound, cutting with the right edge of the knife. One could also say that this pack meets all my requirements for an honest, real, genuine, and utterly authentic album, one I already know I’ll happily and frequently return to. This is, of course, the deepest underground, where the mutilated corpses of the damned still lie on stone slabs. But all it takes is to hit play again, and the demons awaken. They crave fresh blood, another sharp riff, a morbid melody, a scream into the darkness. I would recommend this new release to everyone who, like me, has a soft spot for old burial grounds, mysterious cemeteries, the occult, and bloody fog. Do you still remember why you started listening to this style so long ago? Crumpled cassettes, long hours waiting for new landmark albums, time spent by the speakers? If so, then this album is exactly for you. I think this is precisely the kind of music that has been encoded in my DNA for several decades. I can’t help but recommend this album to you.
