Jednou moje tělo možná sežerou krysy. Budu umírat dlouho. Osamocený, ve studené cele. Ponesu si s sebou všechny hříchy, které jsem za celý svůj život nasbíral. Budu se dívat do tmy a přemýšlet, proč se tak stalo. Proč jsem prokletý? Proč mám zkaženou krev? Někdy mívám noční můry, ze kterých se nemůžu probudit. A někdy, když poslouchám nějaký dobrý death metal, tak potom nevím, co je ještě zlý sen a co už krutá realita.

Je to moje první setkání s italskými tmáři DEVOID OF THOUGHT a musím rovnou napsat, že jsem nadšený. Jako starý pes, který hlídá vchod po podzemí již od devadesátých let minulého století, si neskutečně užívám temnou, chladnou a morbidní atmosféru celého alba. Tahle hudba musela vznikat hluboko v podzemí, v nekonečných chodbách Hádovy říše.

Určitě vám doporučuji, abyste začali poslechem nahrávky "Outer World Graves" z roku 2021. Je také vynikající a navíc si získáte o tvorbě téhle smečky lepší obrázek. Líbí se mi směr, kterým se kapela vydala, jejich nápady, surový a přesto dobře čitelný zvuk, disharmonické prvky, spousta bolestivých pasáží, které se mi pokaždé zadřou hluboko pod kůži i do podvědomí. Většinou recenzovaná alba pro lepší přehlednost připodobňuji k muzice jiných smeček, abyste měli přesnější představu, co kapela hraje za styl, ale tentokrát to dělat nebudu. DEVOID OF THOUGHT čerpají inspiraci ve staré americké i evropské death metalové škole. Dělají to ale s nadhledem a potřebnou elegancí. Navíc potom přidávají spoustu svých myšlenek a nápadů. Vždycky jsem měl rád, když ve mě zanechávaly skladby krvavou stopu, když mě nenechaly v klidu, když mě dokázaly rozdrásat zevnitř. Italové tohle umí na výbornou a obstojí ve všech bodech obhajoby. Navíc, (a to je asi to nejdůležitější) i přes určitou komplikovanost a náročnost se nové album velmi dobře poslouchá. Je v něm něco neklidného, přitažlivého. Italové jdou na samou podstatu smrti, ohlodaní až na kost, opravdoví, ryzí, uvěřitelní a naprosto autentičtí. Nemohu tedy jinak, než vám novinku doporučit. Až zase jednou budete mít děsivé noční můry a bude vám připadat, že svět je krutý a ošklivý, pusťte si "Devoid of Thought". Teprve až potom poznáte, co je to opravdová bolest. Budu se dívat do tmy a přemýšlet, proč se tak stalo. Syrový, temný, disonantní death metal, který vám rozdrásá tělo i mysl do krve! Vynikající morbidní zážitek z jiných dimenzí!

I’ll stare into the darkness and wonder why this happened. Why am I cursed? Why is my blood tainted? Sometimes I have nightmares I can’t wake up from. And sometimes, when I listen to some good death metal, I don’t know what’s still a bad dream and what’s already cruel reality.

This is my first encounter with the Italian dark metal band DEVOID OF THOUGHT, and I have to say right away that I’m thrilled. Like an old dog that has been guarding the entrance to the underworld since the 1990s, I’m thoroughly enjoying the dark, cold, and morbid atmosphere of the entire album. This music must have been created deep underground, in the endless corridors of Hades’ realm.

I definitely recommend starting with their 2021 album "Outer World Graves". It’s excellent, and it’ll give you a better sense of this band’s work. I like the direction the band has taken, their ideas, the raw yet clear sound, the dissonant elements, and the many painful passages that always get under my skin and into my subconscious. For clarity, I usually compare the albums I review to the music of other bands so you have a more precise idea of the band’s style, but I won’t do that this time. DEVOID OF THOUGHT draws inspiration from the old American and European death metal school. But they do so with a sense of perspective and the necessary elegance. On top of that, they add plenty of their own thoughts and ideas. I’ve always loved it when songs left a bloody trail inside me, when they wouldn’t let me rest, when they managed to tear me apart from the inside. The Italians excel at this and stand up to scrutiny on every point. What’s more (and this is probably the most important thing), despite its complexity and intensity, the new album is a pleasure to listen to. There’s something unsettling yet compelling about it. The Italians get to the very essence of death stripped down to the bone, genuine, pure, believable, and utterly authentic. So I can’t help but recommend this new release to you. The next time you have terrifying nightmares and it feels like the world is cruel and ugly, play “Devoid of Thought”. Only then will you know what true pain is. One day, rats might eat my body. I will die a long death. Alone, in a cold cell. I will carry with me all the sins I have accumulated throughout my life. I will stare into the darkness and wonder why it happened this way. Raw, dark, dissonant death metal that will tear your body and mind to shreds! An excellent morbid experience from other dimensions!
