Sedíš svázaný v jedné z dalších věznic světa. Odřezávají ti kousky masa z těla a ty přemýšlíš, jestli se tvoje bolest může posunout ještě dál, do ještě větší tmy. Nervy máš napnuté k prasknutí a dávno už nevíš, čím si se provinil. Možná si byl jenom jiný nebo tě semlel současný podivný svět. Víš jenom jediné, že až zemřeš, tak si s sebou vezmeš do záhrobí nové album australských maniaků PSYCTOPTIC. U jejich riffů, melodií, totiž zažíváš velmi podobné pocity, jako při mučení.
Je to samozřejmě nadsázka, ale pravdou je, že každé nové album je jiné, má svůj vlastní ksicht, výraz. Vždy je ale velmi dobře napsané a složené a řeže tou správnou stranou nože. Letos nám pánové přinášejí další porci velmi temných skladeb, zahalených do tajemna. Novinka je útokem přímo na solar plexus. Technická, divoká, nespoutaná, na povrchu chladná jako ruka staré mrtvoly, ale uvnitř hoří jasným černým plamenem.
V technickém death metalu si hodně vybírám, většinou mi na kapelách vadí, že sice hrají složitě a náročně, ale skladby se nedají moc poslouchat. U PSYCROPTIC je to jiné. Na novince naleznete spoustu dokonale vybroušených pasáží, komplikovaných, přesto živočišných a syrových. Stačilo mi několik společných setkání a jednotlivé momenty jsem si pamatoval, rád se k nim vracel a znovu a znovu rozkrýval další vrstvy. Jakoby se do mě vytvořená, nakumulovaná energie a vztek přelily, dostaly se mi do žil. Najednou jsem seděl u stolu, řval spolu s kapelou, bouchal hlavou do zdi a měl pocit, že je muzika zase jednou i mojí součástí. Mluvíme stejným jazykem, napadalo mě velmi často. Kýval jsem se do rytmu, užíval si masivní, velmi dobře čitelný zvuk, s chutí se pokaždé podíval na démonický a děsivý obal. Vše tu sedí perfektně na svých místech. Melodie ostré jako břitva, zabijácké bicí, vokál bestie, který je zároveň velmi variabilní a má zajímavou barvu. Australané stvořili dílo, které je moderní v tom nejlepším slova smyslu, přesto jsou z něj cítit i klasické krvavé kořeny. Muzika je zde postavena na pevných základech, které kapela sama kdysi vystavěla. Nadále je rozvíjí, vydává se novými, dosud neprobádanými cestami a dělá to s elegancí starých mistrů. Jasně, můžeme jejich tvorbu lehce přirovnat k tomu, co dělají třeba takoví NECROPHAGIST, DECAPITATED, SPAWN OF POSSESION, OBSCURA, REVOCATION, CRYPTOPSY, ale dnes jsou pánové dávno již svoji vlastní odrůdou. Líbí se mi, že se kapela nebojí experimentovat, ale pokaždé stojí na prvním místě skladba jako taková. Pak je tu ještě jedna věc, na kterou se dnes někdy zapomíná. "The Pulse of Annihilation" je nahrávkou, která se opravdu velmi dobře poslouchá. Má v sobě tlak, energii, chvění a spoustu zdravého vzteku. I když většinou poslouchám něco trošku jiného, tak letos u mě tohle album bude atakovat žebříček toho nejlepšího, co letos vyšlo. Vynikající technický death metal, zahraný s noblesou starých mistrů! Album, z kterého odpadává maso od kostí!

They’re cutting chunks of flesh from your body, and you wonder if your pain can go even further, into an even deeper darkness. Your nerves are stretched to the breaking point, and you’ve long since forgotten what you’re guilty of. Maybe you were just different, or maybe this strange world of ours just ground you down. You know only one thing: when you die, you’ll take the new album by the Australian maniacs PSYCTOPTIC with you to the grave. Their riffs and melodies evoke feelings very similar to those experienced during torture.
This is, of course, an exaggeration, but the truth is that every new album is different it has its own face, its own expression. But it’s always very well written and composed, and it cuts with the right edge of the knife. This year, the guys are bringing us another batch of very dark tracks, shrouded in mystery. The new album is a direct attack on the solar plexus. Technical, wild, unbridled on the surface as cold as the hand of an old corpse, but burning with a bright black flame inside.
When it comes to technical death metal, I’m very picky; what usually bothers me about bands is that while they play complex and challenging music, the songs aren’t very listenable. With PSYCROPTIC, it’s different. On their new album, you’ll find plenty of perfectly polished passages complex, yet raw and visceral. It only took a few listens for me to remember specific moments; I enjoyed returning to them and uncovering new layers over and over again. It was as if the energy and rage they’d built up and channeled had spilled over into me, coursing through my veins. Suddenly, I was sitting at the table, screaming along with the band, banging my head against the wall, and feeling like the music was once again a part of me. We speak the same language, I found myself thinking very often. I was swaying to the beat, enjoying the massive, crystal-clear sound, and eagerly glancing at the demonic and terrifying cover art every time. Everything here fits perfectly into place. Razor-sharp melodies, killer drums, and the vocals of a beast which are at the same time highly versatile and have an interesting tone. The Australians have created a work that is modern in the best sense of the word, yet you can still sense its classic, blood-soaked roots. The music here is built on solid foundations that the band itself laid long ago. They continue to develop their sound, venturing down new, unexplored paths, and they do so with the elegance of the old masters. Sure, we can easily compare their work to what bands like NECROPHAGIST, DECAPITATED, SPAWN OF POSSESSION, OBSCURA, REVOCATION, and CRYPTOPSY do, but today these guys are very much their own breed. I like that the band isn’t afraid to experiment, but the song itself always comes first. Then there’s one more thing that’s sometimes forgotten these days. “The Pulse of Annihilation” is a record that’s truly a pleasure to listen to. It’s got intensity, energy, a visceral thrill, and plenty of healthy rage. Even though I usually listen to something a little different, this album is going to be a contender for my list of the best releases of the year. Outstanding technical death metal, played with the finesse of the old masters! An album that will make your flesh fall from your bones!
