Ve starých, dávno opuštěných jatkách se svítí. Kdysi dávno se zde porcovalo maso, zabíjela zvířata a ozýval se odtud děsivý nářek. Jdu dovnitř a našlapuji opatrně. V klecích jsou nějací vyděšení lidé. U stolu stojí velký řezník a řeže kosti. Po zemi teče zkažená krev a do zdí je otištěna nekonečná bolest. Ne, to nejsem uvnitř nějakého zvráceného béčkového hororového filmu. Tohle je krutá realita. Hnusné doupě sériového vraha, který je na vrcholu potravního řetězce. Šílený maniak jako vystřižený z učebnic psychiatrie.
GORGE jsou brutální death metalisté z Itálie, kteří ctí základy stylu, přidávají do něj spoustu svých nápadů a invence. Je to také dvojčlenná kapela, která se rozhodla, že letos vydá nahrávku, která zabíjí na potkání. Surový, na kost ohlodaný zvuk, morbidní melodie, guturální vokál. Nemůžu si pomoc, ale při poslechu jsem opravdu na starých lidských jatkách.
Pánové se textově a tematicky volně inspirovali psychologickými a metafyzickými filmy, jako jsou "Altered States" (Mutace) a "Jacob’s Ladder" (Jakubův žebřík). Hudebně potom máme co do činění se stejnou DNA, jako mají kapely typu MORTICIAN, DYING FETUS, MALEVOLENT CREATION, PUTRID PILE, RETCH, CHRIST DENIED a samozřejmě SUFFOCATION. Budete se kývat do rytmu, jako šílení řezníci, kteří právě dokončili svoji těžkou směnu. Líbí se mi, jak jsou skladby napsány, kolik v sobě mají temné energie, chladu. Jakoby do nich doopravdy bylo otištěno šílenství a touha po čerstvém mase a krvi. Jasně, GORGE tu nejsou od toho, aby vymýšleli něco nového a převratného, přesto musím dodat, že se nejedná jen o obyčejnou kopii věcí minulých. Naopak, kapela se snažila do své hudby vložit i modernější prvky. Nutno rovnou dodat, že se jim to podařilo na výbornou. Debutová novinka tím získala na pestrosti a zajímavosti. Osobně potom jako vždy nejvíce oceňuji, že se album velmi dobře poslouchá, je opravdové, ryzí, uvěřitelné a naprosto autentické. Je slyšet, že tihle gentlemani nechali ve skladbách kus sebe samých i srdce. Nahrávka má navíc takovou zvláštní, podmanivou atmosféru. Zaryje se vám ihned pod kůži, do podvědomí, začne vám kolovat v žilách. Nebál bych se napsat, že vás dokonce i uhrane. Alespoň tak vnímám "Deeds of Horror" já, starý pes. Jsem při poslechu opravdu uprostřed hororových filmů, patologických sálů, toulám se po márnicích, lekám se stínů v temných ulicích. Nezbývá mi nic jiného, než vám album doporučit a dát mu vysokou známku kvality. Ve starých, dávno opuštěných jatkách se svítí. The lights are on in the old, long-abandoned slaughterhouse. Long ago, meat was cut up here, animals were slaughtered, and terrifying wails echoed from within. I walk inside, treading carefully. There are some terrified people in the cages. A large butcher stands at a table, cutting bones. Rancid blood flows across the floor, and endless pain is etched into the walls. No, I’m not inside some twisted B-movie horror film. This is the cruel reality. The vile lair of a serial killer who sits at the top of the food chain. A mad maniac straight out of a psychiatry textbook.
GORGE are a brutal death metal band from Italy who honor the foundations of the genre while infusing it with plenty of their own ideas and creativity. They’re also a two piece band that’s decided to release an album this year that kills everything in its path. A raw, stripped-down sound, morbid melodies, guttural vocals. I can’t help but feel like I’m actually standing in an old human slaughterhouse while listening to this.
Lyrically and thematically, the band drew loose inspiration from psychological and metaphysical films such as “Altered States” and “Jacob’s Ladder.” Musically, we’re dealing with the same DNA as bands like MORTICIAN, DYING FETUS, MALEVOLENT CREATION, PUTRID PILE, RETCH, CHRIST DENIED, and, of course, SUFFOCATION. You’ll be headbanging like crazy butchers who’ve just finished a grueling shift. I love how the songs are written, how much dark energy and coldness they contain. It’s as if madness and a craving for fresh flesh and blood were truly imprinted within them. Sure, GORGE isn’t here to come up with something new and groundbreaking, but I have to add that this isn’t just a mere copy of things past. On the contrary, the band has tried to incorporate more modern elements into their music. It’s worth noting right away that they’ve succeeded brilliantly. This has made their debut album more diverse and interesting. Personally, as always, what I appreciate most is that the album is a pleasure to listen to it’s genuine, pure, believable, and completely authentic. You can tell that these gentlemen have poured a piece of themselves and their hearts into these songs. What’s more, the recording has this strange, captivating atmosphere. It gets under your skin right away, seeps into your subconscious, and starts coursing through your veins. I wouldn’t hesitate to say that it even casts a spell on you. At least that’s how I, an old hand, perceive “Deeds of Horror”. When I listen to it, I really feel like I’m in the middle of horror movies, in autopsy rooms, wandering through morgues, and startled by shadows in dark streets.
