Myslel jsem si, že už to nezažiji. Přesto se to stalo. K prvnímu kontaktu došlo poprvé ve chvílích, kdy zůstal poslední člověk mimo virtuální síť. Lidstvo bylo odsouzeno k zániku. Říkali nám, zatímco vypalovali celá města a očišťovali Zemi od druhu zvaného člověk, že si za to můžeme sami. Měl to být takový zajímavý pokus. Neobstáli jsme. Příliš mnoho válek, násilí, nenávisti. Moc nás nezůstalo. Zatím se nám daří se ukrývat. Nebude ale to trvat dlouho. Všichni nakonec zemřeme.
Mám rád, když se kombinuje sci-fi a death metal. Líbí se mi texty, ale hlavně muzika. Je tu debutové album maniaků MORGUED z Bostonu. A stačilo několik prvních poslechů, abych se vrátil po časové ose zpět. A to jak díky skladbám samotným, tak i díky atmosféře, která opravdu připomíná sci-fi filmy a knihy z osmdesátých let minulého století.
MORGUED hrají staroškolský death metal se spoustou technických a thrash metalových prvků. Výsledkem je koktejl, který připomíná jedovatou krev vetřelců z vesmíru. Velmi dobře napsané skladby se poslouchají tak nějak samy. Mají velmi dobrý, masivní, čitelný a naprosto zabijácký zvuk (Will Killingsworth - mastering, Chris Leamy - reording, mixing). O motivu na obalu netřeba diskutovat, je pod ním podepsán Ditch Witch a připomíná mi staré obaly sci-fi knížek, co jsem čítával jako mladý kluk. Hlavní ale je, alespoň co se týká mé maličkosti, atmosféra celé nahrávky, která je nekonečnou tmou vesmíru, setkáním s jinými civilizacemi. Když nad tím tak přemýšlím, tak asi nějak takhle bude vypadat apokalypsa, až k ní na naší kdysi tak krásné Zemi dojde. Zatím děláme všechno proto, abychom ji zničili. Pokud se už jako já nedokážete dívat na večerní zprávy a kroutíte nechápavě hlavou nad naší lidskou hloupostí, potom je tohle album také pro vás. Muzika je to klasická, tradiční, tihle gentlemani nevymýšlejí nic nového, ani převratného, ale to zde ani není účelem. Líbí se mi, že se kapele povedlo do jednotlivých songů vložit spoustu vlastních nápadů a invence. Novinka je tak nebývale pestrá, zajímavá a řeže tou správnou stranou nože. Kývám se spokojeně do rytmu, postupně přidávám hlasitost a dívám se z okna na černé nebe. Už to nebude dlouho trvat a objeví se. Nevím jak budou vypadat, jistý jsem si ale rozhodně s tím, že nás přiletí zničit, vypálit. Budu čekat, poslouchat u toho "Ordnance Obscenum", které bude i soundtrackem k apokalypse, která bude následovat. Myslel jsem si, že už to nezažiji. Přesto se to stalo. K prvnímu kontaktu došlo poprvé ve chvílích, kdy zůstal poslední člověk mimo virtuální síť. Lidstvo bylo odsouzeno k zániku. Syrový, temný a naprosto zničující death metalový útok z vesmíru! Lidstvo je odsouzeno k zániku a tohle album k tomu bude hrát jako soundtrack!

I thought I’d never live to see it. Yet it happened. First contact occurred just as the last human remained outside the virtual network. Humanity was doomed. As they burned entire cities and purged the Earth of the species known as humans, they told us it was our own fault. It was supposed to be an interesting experiment. We failed. Too many wars, too much violence, too much hatred. Not many of us are left. So far, we’ve managed to hide. But it won’t last long. We’ll all die in the end.
I love it when sci-fi and death metal are combined. I like the lyrics, but especially the music. Here’s the debut album from the maniacs MORGUED from Boston. It only took a few listens for me to be transported back in time thanks both to the songs themselves and to the atmosphere, which really evokes sci-fi movies and books from the 1980s.
MORGUED plays old-school death metal with plenty of technical and thrash metal elements. The result is a cocktail reminiscent of the poisonous blood of alien invaders. The very well-written songs just seem to play themselves. They have a great, massive, clear, and absolutely killer sound (Will Killingsworth - mastering; Chris Leamy - recording, mixing). There’s no need to discuss the cover art it’s signed by Ditch Witch and reminds me of the old sci-fi book covers I used to read as a young boy. But what matters most, at least to me, is the atmosphere of the entire recording, which evokes the endless darkness of space and encounters with other civilizations. Come to think of it, this is probably what the apocalypse will look like when it finally arrives on our once-beautiful Earth. For now, we’re doing everything we can to destroy it. If, like me, you can no longer bear to watch the evening news and find yourself shaking your head in disbelief at our human stupidity, then this album is for you, too. The music is classic and traditional; these gentlemen aren’t coming up with anything new or groundbreaking, but that isn’t the point here. I like that the band has managed to infuse each song with plenty of their own ideas and creativity. This new release is so incredibly diverse, interesting, and hits all the right notes. I’m nodding contentedly to the beat, gradually turning up the volume, and looking out the window at the black sky. It won’t be long now before they appear. I don’t know what they’ll look like, but I’m absolutely certain they’re coming to destroy us, to burn us to the ground. I’ll wait, listening to “Ordnance Obscenum”, which will also serve as the soundtrack to the apocalypse that’s about to follow. I thought I’d never live to see this. Yet it happened.
