Staré pohřebiště v lesích vydalo další ze svých děsivých svědectví. Síla a magie temných lesů, nekonečných plání i mrazivé tmy. Daleko na severu, odstřižen od současného podivného světa, oživil po dlouhých letech Hrafngrímnir svoji kapelu MØRKGRIM. Pokud jste hudebně vyrůstali na black metalu v devadesátých letech, určitě víte, o čem píšu. Vše je zde ohlodáno na kost, hudba je protkána zvláštní atmosférou, má v sobě potřebný drive i sílu a zároveň obsahuje spoustu folklórních motivů.
Pro podobnou hudbu je nutné se vnitřně naladit. Vnímat ji nejen ušima, ale také srdcem. Nechat ji na sebe působit, rozdrásat svoji duši do krve, pokleknout před mocnou přírodou a vrátit se po časové ose zpět, do časů,, kdy nebyl ještě svět zkažený chaosem. Doporučuji vám ranní svítání v lese za vaším městem nebo nepropustnou tmu na lesním hřbitově. Tam vynikne síla této nahrávky nejvíce. A pro podobné chvíle je i určena.
Vypněte všechny sítě světa, zhasněte a zapněte play na svém přehrávači. Nechte na sebe nové album jen tak působit. Také cítíte jeho sílu, takový ten neklid, tlak, energii, posbíranou někde daleko na severu, v krásné a kruté přírodě? MØRKGRIM si hrají s melodiemi a atmosférou jako šelma se svojí kořistí. Jednou jsou syroví a řezající, jindy přemýšliví a tajemní. Není to nahrávka pro každého. Ocení ji hlavně staří black metalisté i všichni ti, kteří mají bohatou fantazii a bolest uvnitř svých zkažených duší. V tomto případě je jednoznačně lepší poslouchat, užívat si, než psát nějaká slova, která stejně nikdy nedokáži popsat to, co se na desce odehrává. Líbí se mi zvuk, který je průzračný jako hladina horského jezera, rád se dívám i na motiv na obalu. Sedávám dlouho hodiny se sluchátky na uších, sleduji les kolem sebe, ticho, potkávám mrtvoly s vyděšenými tvářemi u cesty, lekám se stínů, spávám pod starými skalami. Čtu si runy na kamenech a přemýšlím, jaké mám vlastně kořeny. Nechávám svoji přirozenost, pudy a emoce, aby vypluly na povrch jako utopenci. "Sǫgur frá Norðfirði" má velmi zvláštní atmosféru. Nerozumím ani slovu, ale přesto tak nějak podvědomě vím, o čem Hrafngrímnir hraje a zpívá. Ne, nechci, aby to skončilo. Znovu mačkám play a mraky jsou nízko. Možná brzy přijde bouře, vichřice a myslím si, že nálady budou úplně stejné, jako při poslechu tohoto alba. Je to hodně silný zážitek, niterný, osobní. A mě nezbývá, než vám jej doporučit. An ancient burial ground in the woods has revealed yet another of its terrifying testimonies. The power and magic of the dark forests, the endless plains, and the chilling darkness. Far to the north, cut off from today’s strange world, Hrafngrímnir has revived his band MØRKGRIM after many long years. If you grew up listening to black metal in the ’90s, you surely know what I’m talking about. Everything here is stripped down to the bone; the music is imbued with a peculiar atmosphere, possessing the necessary drive and power while also incorporating plenty of folk motifs.
To appreciate music like this, you have to tune in internally. You have to perceive it not only with your ears, but also with your heart. Let it work its magic on you, let it tear your soul to shreds, kneel before the mighty forces of nature, and travel back in time to an era when the world hadn’t yet been corrupted by chaos. I recommend experiencing it at dawn in the woods outside your city or in the impenetrable darkness of a forest cemetery. That’s where the power of this recording shines through the most. And that’s exactly what it’s meant for.
Turn off all the world’s networks, dim the lights, and hit play on your player. Just let the new album wash over you. Can you feel its power, too that restlessness, that pressure, that energy, gathered somewhere far to the north, in beautiful yet harsh nature? MØRKGRIM plays with melodies and atmosphere like a predator with its prey. At times they’re raw and cutting; at others, pensive and mysterious. This isn’t a record for everyone. It will be appreciated most by old-school black metal fans and all those who possess a vivid imagination and pain within their corrupted souls. In this case, it’s definitely better to just listen and enjoy it than to write words that will never be able to describe what’s happening on the album anyway. I like the sound, which is as clear as the surface of a mountain lake, and I also enjoy looking at the cover art. I sit for hours on end with headphones on, watching the forest around me, the silence; I encounter corpses with terrified faces by the roadside, I’m startled by shadows, and I sleep beneath ancient rocks. I read the runes on the stones and wonder what my roots truly are. I let my nature, instincts, and emotions rise to the surface like drowned souls. “Sǫgur frá Norðfirði” has a very special atmosphere. I don’t understand a single word, but somehow, subconsciously, I know what Hrafngrímnir is playing and singing about. No, I don’t want it to end. I press play again, and the clouds hang low. Perhaps a storm is coming soon a gale and I think the mood will be exactly the same as when listening to this album. It’s a very powerful experience, intimate and personal.
