Bylo to u příležitosti vydání jejich loňského EP "Risen from the Flames".

Vylezu z márnice ven a obejme mě temnota.

I letos tihle morbidní gentlemani pokračují v jasně vytyčené a dané cestě. Útočí napřímo, na solar plexus, dostanou se vám do krve i do podvědomí. Již od devadesátých let minulého století miluju chřestění pytlem plným kostí ve švédském stylu, není tedy divu, že se mi líbí i nové album "The Night Belongs to the Dead". Přišli k nám z toho nejhlubšího podzemí a zvěstují příchod absolutní tmy, zmaru, bolesti a utrpení. A teď už mě prosím nechte, zase se pomalu stmívá. Musím jít. Zavřu za sebou rezavé dveře do márnice. Potkám první zombie, usměje se na mě. Jsem zde správně. Otevírám si první pivo a znovu rád a s chutí přijímám pozvání k poslednímu tanci.

Asphyx says:

I’m waiting in the morgue for darkness to fall. I’m chatting with the undead, breathing in the stench of decay. Outside, an icy wind sweeps through the gravestones. Some graves were left open after last night; others are awaiting exhumation. I can feel the tension in the air, just like every time I listen to a good band from the north. I’ve written about the Swedish band ELDFÖDD once before. It was on the occasion of the release of their EP from last year, “Risen from the Flames.” Back then, every bone in my body rattled. So I was very curious about this year’s album.

I step out of the morgue and darkness envelops me. The most beautiful zombies are already dancing among the graves. Flesh is falling from their bones, and their venomous laughter is a divine chorus to my ears. I press play on my player again and force the new recording into my head. It’s here, I scream into the darkness, and the zombies and my own demons nod their heads in agreement. This is the perfect essence of what I love so much about Nordic death metal. Serve it on a coffin lid, chilled and with raw, rotten flesh.

You can read in the previous review (linked below today’s article) that this band is made up entirely of experienced musicians true members of the Swedish death metal elite. This year, these morbid gentlemen continue on their clearly defined and established path. They strike straight at the solar plexus, seeping into your blood and your subconscious. Ever since the 1990s, I’ve loved the Swedish-style rattling of a bag full of bones, so it’s no wonder that I also love their new album, "The Night Belongs to the Dead". It’s packed to the brim with everything I love about death metal. It has a massive, cold, killer sound (Gord Olson - mixing, mastering; Pontus Ekwall - recording, engineering), a stylish and great-looking cover art (Timbul Cahyono), but most importantly, plenty of morbid ideas. There’s something animalistic, primal, cavernous, and otherworldly that’s branded into the songs like a mark on the skin of the damned and it compels me to keep coming back to this album and dance alongside the undead on my own grave. The individual tracks are very well written; they possess the necessary drive and power, along with that ancient, moldy patina that we old-timers love so much. Nothing is out of place, nothing is missing; I’m screaming along with the band into the darkness, and once again I’m convinced that ELDFÖDD is a band you can count on. They’ve come to us from the deepest depths of the underworld and herald the arrival of absolute darkness, ruin, pain, and suffering. And now, please, let me go it’s slowly getting dark again. I have to go. I close the rusty door to the morgue behind me. I encounter the first zombie; he smiles at me. I’m in the right place. I crack open my first beer and once again gladly and eagerly accept the invitation to the final dance. Soon they’ll bite through my throat. I’m looking forward to it if they play music like this in the afterlife, I’ll finally be among my own. Morbid, dark, cold echoes from the deepest depths of the Swedish underworld! Death metal that makes the flesh fall from your bones!
