Ďábel je vždycky ten, který stojí ve stínu, je nenápadný, usměvavý, má hezkou tvář a mezi lidmi je oblíbený. Může mít podobu kněze, ale i vašeho souseda, se kterým se vždycky rádi vídáte. Jenže temnota nezná slitování. Kříže jsou opět obráceny směrem dolů a z modliteb odkapává zkažená krev. Jsou kapely, které mě provázejí celý můj hudební život. Hltám jejich hudbu, usínám u ní, chodím po ulicích a nechávám ji, aby na mě působila. IMMOLATION vždy byli, jsou a budou kapelou, která má natolik originální rukopis, že ji poznáte podle několika prvních tónů.
Vždycky, když vyjde nové album od této legendární smečky, tak si říkám, s čím novým asi pánové přijdou. Musí to být velmi těžké, skládat tak, aby se kapela neopakovala. Nutno rovnou dodat, že někdy mám letos pocit, že jsem od nich některé motivy už slyšel. Možná to není pravda, ale cítím, vnímám to tak. Pravdou ale také je, že mi to vůbec nevadí. Pokaždé dám na celkový dojem a zrovna tihle bardi už dávno nemusí nikomu nic dokazovat. Novinka ale není rozhodně jen nějakým albem z povinnosti, naopak. Kříže jsou stále obráceny směrem dolů, svěcená voda se vaří nenávistí a kněz se usmívá. Má zkaženou duši a brzy si přijde i pro vás.
"Descent" je albem, které v sobě obsahuje všechny potřebné ingredience, tak jak je máme my, staří fanoušci rádi. Kapela nijak zbytečně neexperimentuje. Pokud hledáte progresivní postupy, poohlédněte se jinde. Osobně jsem s novinkou velmi spokojený, dokonce bych řekl, že každým dalším poslechem roste, stále objevuji nové pasáže, momenty a poslech si opravdu užívám. Chtěl jsem IMMOLATION a také jsem je dostal. Jediná moje drobná výtka je potom ke zvuku. Je masivní a dobře čitelný, ale dovedl bych si jej představit špinavější. Chápu ale, že pak by tolik nevynikly jednotlivé nuance a atmosféra celé desky. Ono je všeobecně o podobných kapelách velmi těžké něco napsat. Jednak jsem starý fanoušek a můj subjektivní dojem je tím velmi ovlivněný a zároveň chci od téhle kapely, aby zněla tak, jak ji mám rád a jak si ji pamatuji. I letos dostanete všechno, co si vaše zkažená duše žádá. Masivní, ostré a surové riffy, bolestivé melodie, vokál připomínající řev bestie a bicí, které vám vystřelí mozek z hlavy. A to není rozhodně málo. Naopak. Jsem vždy moc rád, když si můžu pustit hudbu, která je pro mě jistotou, záchytným bodem. Vím, co jsem mohl očekávat a také jsem to dostal. Navíc, mě opravdu baví nové album poslouchat a rád se k němu vracím. Je v něm totiž vše, co mám na tomto stylu i kapele rád. Surovost, temnota, zkažená krev, tajemno a spousta obrácených křížů. Myslím si, že stále je proč bojovat proti slepé víře. Koneckonců, stačí se rozhlédnout kolem sebe a vnímat současný zkažený svět. IMMOLATION možná vsadili trošku na jistotu, ale udělali to s elegancí a zkušenostmi starých mistrů v oboru. Zaplať Satan za to! The devil is always the one standing in the shadows inconspicuous, smiling, with a handsome face, and well-liked by everyone. He might take the form of a priest, or even your neighbor, whom you always enjoy seeing. But darkness knows no mercy. The crosses are turned upside down once again, and corrupted blood drips from the prayers. There are bands that have accompanied me throughout my entire musical life. I devour their music, fall asleep to it, walk the streets, and let it work its magic on me. IMMOLATION has always been, is, and will always be a band with such an original signature sound that you can recognize them from the very first few notes.
Whenever a new album comes out from this legendary band, I always wonder what new ideas the guys will come up with. It must be very difficult to compose in a way that keeps the band from repeating itself. I should add right away that sometimes this year I feel like I’ve heard some of these motifs from them before. Maybe it’s not true, but that’s how I feel, that’s how I perceive it. The truth is, though, that it doesn’t bother me at all. I always go by the overall impression, and these bards in particular haven’t had to prove anything to anyone for a long time. But this new release is definitely not just some album made out of obligation quite the opposite. The crosses are still turned upside down, the holy water boils with hatred, and the priest is smiling. He has a corrupt soul, and soon he’ll come for you too.
"Descent" is an album that contains all the necessary ingredients just the way we longtime fans like it. The band doesn’t experiment unnecessarily. If you’re looking for progressive elements, look elsewhere. Personally, I’m very satisfied with the new release; I’d even say it grows on me with every listen I keep discovering new passages and moments, and I’m really enjoying it. I wanted IMMOLATION, and that’s exactly what I got. My only minor complaint is with the sound. It’s massive and clear, but I could imagine it being a bit dirtier. But I understand that then the individual nuances and the atmosphere of the whole album wouldn’t stand out as much. It’s generally very hard to write anything about bands like this. For one thing, I’m an old fan, and my subjective impression is heavily influenced by that, and at the same time, I want this band to sound the way I like it and the way I remember it. This year, too, you’ll get everything your depraved soul craves. Massive, sharp, and raw riffs, painful melodies, vocals reminiscent of a beast’s roar, and drums that will blow your brains out. And that’s certainly no small thing. On the contrary. I’m always very happy when I can listen to music that’s a certainty for me, a point of reference. I knew what to expect, and that’s exactly what I got. Plus, I really enjoy listening to the new album and love coming back to it. It has everything I love about this style and this band: rawness, darkness, tainted blood, mystery, and plenty of inverted crosses. I think there’s still a reason to fight against blind faith. After all, you just have to look around and take in the current corrupt world. IMMOLATION may have played it a bit safe, but they did so with the elegance and experience of old masters in the field.
