Recenze/review - MURDERESS - Time to Kill. Vol II (2025)

MURDERESS - Time to Kill. Vol II
EP 2025, Electric Funeral Records

Večerní zprávy plné násilí a krve.

Večerní zprávy plné násilí a krve. Pusťte všem hajzlům tohle EP přímo do ksichtu, ať jim sleze kůže z těla! Black death metalové zrcadlo nastavené našim temným, zlým a násilným myšlenkám! Divoká jízda přímo do pekla!

Asphyx says:

Evening news full of violence and blood. There has always been a lot of evil among people, but in recent years it has become more and more visible. Crazy discussions, pictures of the dead piled up, victims locked in basements, modern-day slaves, rape. There is no longer any humility, no one has a conscience. This is how the media affects us, looking for another sensation. Similar topics, always written from a woman's perspective, are also the hallmark of the Brazilian black death metal band MURDERESS.

You have already had the opportunity to meet this band on our website (the review and interview are linked below today's article). This year's EP is rawer, crazier, wilder. It is filled to the brim with pressure, it is like a set mirror of our cruel and disgusting actions, which we as humanity are capable of. Listen really loud and in the dark!

The ladies (and the drummer) are uncompromising again, they don't mess with anything too much. At the same time, they don't forget about the chilling melodies and dark atmosphere. I turned off the crazy news, just sat down and turned on play. An avalanche of sharply sharpened riffs, disease-soaked vocals and drums attacked me from the player, which shot my brain out of my head. Individual motifs gradually got into my head and it made me keep coming back to "Time to Kill. Vol II". There is something captivating, interesting, something that attracts me to this recording. I only regret one thing. It would have been nice to have a full-length album, preferably with the same concept. Then it's a big shame that I haven't seen this band live yet, because I think their music must literally kill at concerts. MURDERESS have been on the scene since 2022 and I can already write that I'm looking forward to more of their new music. Every time, and this year is no exception, I got a fair share of dark and aggressive moods. The songs are very well written, have a lot of interesting moments and I also enjoy listening to them. Talent meets a desire to kill with music. Sure, the Brazilians don't bring anything groundbreaking, but the new EP (and the previous one) are not just a well-done craft. There is something more here, a kind of unrest, black magic, call it what you want, but I believe every tone, every note, every beat of the drums of this pack. Evening news full of violence and blood. There has always been a lot of evil among people, but in recent years it has been seen more and more. Crazy discussions, pictures of the dead piled up, victims locked in a basement, modern-day slaves, rape. There is no humility anymore, no one has a conscience. Throw this EP straight in the face of all the bastards, let their skin fall off their bodies! A black death metal mirror set to our dark, evil and violent thoughts! A wild ride straight to hell!

Recenze/review - MURDERESS - Time to Kill (2024)

MURDERESS - Time to Kill
EP 2024, vlastní vydání

for english please scroll down

A dělají to velmi zkušeně a přesvědčivě. Nové EP "Time to Kill" mě ihned smetlo a strhlo do hlubiny.

Starý, prašivý a smrtelnými chorobami nasáklý smrtící kov. Tahle smečka vzešla z toho nejhlubšího podzemí a přináší vám jenom zkázu a utrpení.

Asphyx says:

If you kill someone in a dark alley, you'll be convicted of murder. But if you shoot your opponent in war, you'll be celebrated. Human history is full of violence. It's as if there's a darkness inside our minds that surfaces every chance we get. You can use a knife to prepare a meal, but you can also use it to cut a man. There's a flip side to our world that we turn a blind eye to and pretend doesn't exist.

It's very good that there are bands like Brazilian black death metallers MURDERESS. They can use their music to draw attention to similar themes. And they do it very skilfully and convincingly. There is a great overproduction of music nowadays. I'm glad when someone comes along who plays honestly, truly, from the heart. The new EP "Time to Kill" immediately blew me away and took me into the deep end. The songs are written in a very believable way.

The band is a joint effort of two musicians Jazz Kaipora (guitar) and Claudia Franco (vocals), with drummer Pedro Fraga completing the line-up. From the songs, I can feel that there is a mutual artistic chemistry between the members. MURDERESS know exactly what and how they want to play. Old, dusty and disease-ridden death metal. Four songs as sharp as the blades of freshly sharpened scalpels. Dark and cold at the same time, like waking up in the morning and being told you have to go kill. You don't know why or who, but you get a gun and a clear target. You could have a beer together, but instead you rip the guts out of each other. You march to your death, listening to the "Time to Kill" EP and asking God himself why? The answer never comes, and Satan smiles in the meantime. I love it when music has emotion in it, when it gets under my skin, when it makes me want to come back to it. I have only one regret, I would have liked more songs, a full length album. In fact, as a fan, I've discovered another band for myself to follow. The music here rolls forward like a river full of dead bodies. Have you ever seen footage of war? Have you ever looked for a corpse in a quiet, peaceful street? Well, you don't have to, these Brazilian maniacs convey it all with their urgent and raw music. This pack has come from the deepest underground and brings you nothing but destruction and misery. It plays with gloomy moods like a beast with its prey. I find it very pleasant to have my throat bitten out. If you kill someone in a dark alley, you'll be convicted of murder. But if you shoot your opponent in war, you will be celebrated. Human history is full of violence. It's as if there's a darkness inside our minds that comes to the surface every chance we get. Raw, cold death metal that will drag you into the depths of dark human thoughts!

A few questions - interview with black death metal band from Brazil - MURDERESS.

A few questions - interview with black death metal band from Brazil - MURDERESS.

1. Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? When was it founded and what style of music do you play?

Ave! Murderess was founded in 2023 by guitarist Jazz Kaipora and vocalist Claudia Franco. We play a mix of death metal, doom, and black metal, focusing on brutal riffs, dark atmospheres, and feminist themes. Our music carries a raw and emotional intensity, tackling social issues and giving a voice to women who have been oppressed.

2. Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production, and mastering?

We recorded our EP Time to Kill at Orbis Studio in Brasília, which is a fantastic studio for capturing the depth and heaviness of our sound. The production was handled by the band in collaboration with the studio, allowing us to maintain full creative control over the process. We wanted the EP to sound raw, powerful, and unpolished, reflecting the themes of anger and rebellion.

3. How many copies were released, and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

Time to Kill was released digitally on all major platforms. Right now, we’re focusing on the digital edition as we build our audience, but we’re definitely looking into physical releases like CDs or vinyl in the future as the demand grows.

4. Who is the author of the lyrics, and how were they created? What do the lyrics deal with?

The lyrics are written by Jazz Kaipora and Claudia Franco. We draw a lot of inspiration from real-life events and historical women who faced violence and oppression but chose to fight back. The themes in Time to Kill reflect a rejection of the typical romanticization of violence against women and instead offer stories of vengeance, resistance, and empowerment. It’s a call to arms for all women to reclaim their power in a world that often tries to silence them.

5. Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

The artwork for Time to Kill was created by Ivan Hugo, an incredible artist from Brasília, who can be found on Instagram as @voodoofordummies. Our logo was designed by @djsaudades from São Paulo. As for everything else, we handle it all ourselves. We’re just regular people with common jobs here in Brazil, so unfortunately, we can’t yet dedicate ourselves fully to the band—though we hope that will change soon! While we consider visual media important, right now our main focus is on the music itself and rehearsing for upcoming shows.

6. Which label did you choose for releasing your album, and why this label? Are you satisfied with how your label represents you and takes care of you?

We haven’t signed with a label yet and are currently releasing our music independently. While this allows us more freedom, we’re also open to working with a label that understands our message and can help us reach a wider audience. We’re exploring options and considering what would be the best fit for Murderess.

7. Which bands do you idolize, and where do you get your inspiration?

We’re influenced by a mix of metal legends and strong female-fronted bands like Valhalla, Nervosa, and Soror for their attitude and the way they challenge the metal scene’s norms.. Bands like Celtic Frost, Sepultura, Bolt Thrower, Death, and Candlemass inspire us musically. .
8. Did you send your record to some labels? Which ones, and how was the response?

We were eager to release our album, so we haven’t reached out to any labels yet. However, some labels have contacted us through Bandcamp, expressing interest in our music. We're exploring those opportunities as they come in.

9. How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it’s clubs or festivals, and which of your performances would you consider the best?

We’ve played 4 gigs in the Brazilian underground scene, all in clubs. Recently, we had the honor of opening for Crypta, a prominent band in our genre. This year, we also have shows lined up with Velho and Mystifier, both legendary names in the Brazilian underground. We love the energy of club shows, where the connection with the audience is intimate and intense. However, we’re also excited about the opportunity to play larger festivals in the future!

10. What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

We’re currently working on Time to Kill Volume 2 and planning more shows until the end of the year. Our long-term goal is to go on tour, especially to promote the Brazilian underground metal scene and the power of women in metal. We want to spread our message internationally and reach a wider audience, challenging the stereotypes in metal and proving that women can be just as fierce and brutal as anyone.

11. How and where can your fans contact you? Can you provide some contact information?

Fans can reach us through our Instagram at @murderess.band, and for any inquiries, they can email us at murderess.band@gmail.com. They can also support us directly by visiting our Bandcamp page at www.murderessdeath.bandcamp.com. We love connecting with our audience and sharing our journey!
