Měsíc má barvu krve a v ulicích se válí mrazivá mlha. Máš neodbytný pocit, že tě někdo sleduje. V dálce štěkají divocí psi a v kostech se ti usadil strach. Děsivá noční můra, která se vkradla do tvých snů již před několika lety, se pomalu stává krutou skutečností. Oči, které zahlédneš ve stínu, jsou plné zla a nenávisti. Záblesk nože, výkřik do tmy. Ticho a nekonečná smrt. Kaluž krve, ve které tě ráno najdou lidé, co jdou do práce, bude jen děsivou vzpomínkou.
Jsem možná jeden z největších fanoušků AUTOPSY a jako takový sleduji všechny informace, které se kolem téhle legendární smečky vyskytnou. A tak mi nemohlo před lety uniknout, že Greg Wilkinson a Chris Reifert mají svůj vedlejší projekt STATIC ABYSS. Mám doma samozřejmě všechny nahrávky a také jsem je podpořil i napsáním recenzí (odkazy můžete nalézt dole pod dnešním článkem). Poslouchat letošní novinku je jako jít do kina v osmdesátých letech na krvavý hororový film. Styl se nemění, melodie a nápady ano. A opět se mi album dostalo do žil a zanechalo po sobě hlubokou stopu.
On je také ale rozdíl, jestli si vezmete kelímek plný popcornu a budete se jen tak napínavě bát a nebo opravdu vyrazíte do ulic a potkáte tam démony. STATIC ABYSS byli a jsou vždy naprosto uvěřitelní, zajímaví, dobře se poslouchají, mají spoustu děsivých nápadů, jsou ryzí, ohlodaní na kost a hlavně naprosto autentičtí. Našli jste někdy u cesty mrtvé zvíře? Cítili jste ten zahnívající zápach rozkládajícího se masa? Tak přesně takové pocity mám i z nové nahrávky "The Dying Hunt". Jakoby pánové vytáhli na povrch naše nejtemnější pudy, nenávist, čiré zlo a vypálili všechno na hudební nosič. Líbí se mi chladný, takový neklidný a ostře řezající zvuk, s chutí se vždy podívám i na stylový obal. Oba pánové jsou natolik zkušení, že snad ani není nutné o formálních věcech diskutovat. Vždycky se mi líbily kapely, které mají svůj vlastní rukopis, které hrají od srdce. Zákon o předání energie funguje opět s naprostou jistotou. Ať už dosadíte do rovnice jakékoliv proměnné, vždycky je výsledkem deska, která se velmi dobře poslouchá, rád se k ní vracím a rvu si ji dlouhé měsíce pod tlakem do hlavy. Mám doma samozřejmě spoustu hudebních letošních nosičů, mnohé jsou vynikající, ale nakonec stejně volím tuhle smečku. Když ji totiž poslouchám, tak mám neodbytný pocit, že někdo stojí ve stínu, že mě sleduje a drží v rukou nůž. Lampa v tiché ulici poblikává a u popelnic leží skoro mrtvý bezdomovec. Měsíc má barvu krve a v ulicích se válí mrazivá mlha. Ne, tohle není děsivá noční můra, ani hororový film, který mám ve své sbírce. To je krutá, hnusná, smradlavá realita. Marně jsem hledal něco, co bych nahrávce vytkl. Nic jsem nenašel. Je totiž dokonalá tak jak je. Smrdí jako rozkládající se mršina a když ji dáte trošku času, tak se vám dostane do krve i do podvědomí. Doom death metalové ozvěny z těch nejděsivějších nočních můr! Album, které je po okraj narvané bolestí, strachem, nekonečnou temnotou a krutou smrtí!

Wild dogs bark in the distance, and fear has settled deep in your bones. The terrifying nightmare that crept into your dreams several years ago is slowly becoming a cruel reality. I’m perhaps one of AUTOPSY’s biggest fans, and as such, I follow all the news surrounding this legendary band. So it couldn’t have escaped my notice years ago that Greg Wilkinson and Chris Reifert have their side project, STATIC ABYSS. Of course, I have all their recordings at home, and I’ve also supported them by writing reviews (you can find the links below today’s article). Listening to this year’s new release is like going to the movies in the ’80s to watch a gory horror film. The style hasn’t changed, but the melodies and ideas have. And once again, the album got under my skin and left a deep impression.
But there’s also a difference between grabbing a bowl of popcorn and just sitting there on the edge of your seat, and actually heading out into the streets to encounter demons. STATIC ABYSS have always been and continue to be utterly believable, interesting, and a pleasure to listen to; they’re full of terrifying ideas, they’re raw, stripped down to the bone, and above all, completely authentic. Have you ever found a dead animal by the roadside? Have you ever smelled the putrid stench of rotting flesh? That’s exactly how I feel about their new album, "The Dying Hunt". It’s as if these guys have dredged up our darkest instincts hatred, pure evil and burned it all onto a record. I like the cold, restless, and sharp-edged sound, and I always enjoy checking out the stylish cover art. Both musicians are so experienced that it’s hardly even necessary to discuss technical details. I’ve always liked bands that have their own signature style, that play from the heart. The law of energy transfer works with absolute certainty once again. No matter what variables you plug into the equation, the result is always an album that’s a pleasure to listen to I love coming back to it and hammering it into my head for months on end. Of course, I have plenty of this year’s music releases at home many of them are excellent but in the end, I still choose this bunch. When I listen to it, I get the nagging feeling that someone is standing in the shadows, watching me and holding a knife. A streetlight flickers in a quiet street, and a nearly dead homeless man lies by the trash cans. The moon is the color of blood, and a freezing fog hangs over the streets. No, this isn’t a terrifying nightmare, nor is it a horror movie from my collection. It’s a cruel, disgusting, stinking reality. I searched in vain for something to criticize about this recording. I found nothing. It’s perfect just the way it is. It stinks like a rotting carcass, and if you give it a little time, it’ll seep into your blood and your subconscious. Doom death metal echoes from the most terrifying nightmares! An album brimming to the brim with pain, fear, endless darkness, and cruel death!
