Interview - ARTILLERY - We always wanted to have some lyrics who mean something, especially about all the madness which is going on in the world today.

Interview with legendary thrash metal band from Denmark - ARTILLERY.

Recenze/review - ARTILLERY - The Face of Fear (2018):

Ave ARTILLERY! Greetings to Denmark! I hope you all are doing well! I feel great, because I just came back from work, where I was listening to your new album "The Face of Fear" for a whole day. I worked on my computer, and I still had the headphones in my ears. I am literally fascinated by the energy that I feel from the new record. I am sure, you won’t tell me your recipe, where you take so much power, but you could describe how the new album was born? Has somehow ARTILLERY changed the way in writing process compare to previous albums?

This album is a combination between some old songs like New Rage, Preached to The Converted and Pain who was written around 2000 – 2007 and the bonus track Mind of No Return who was the first Artillery song written in 1982.

The rest of the songs was written right after our European tour we did with Onslaught.

On our last album Morten and I split the writing, but on this due to Mortens health I had to write most of the stuff. On Face of Fear we tried to make the songs aggressive but melodic with strong hook lines, a bit shorter and with a more straight on production.

Personally, I like the most at the album "The Face of Fear" one thing - melodies. Clear and distinct, you are betting on interesting riffs, the songs slowly graduate; they have a drive and strength. In my opinion, these things make from the good music the excellent one. I wonder how you know that the song is already done. Who has the last word? And how do you perceive their live presentation after that? Is the chemistry between you and then between you and the fans important? Do you also have the ideas which you throw out (don’t use)?

Great you like TFOF and you like our riffing and melodies, Thanks😊

We all have something to say about the songs, I always listen to what the other guys or the producer say but we almost agreeing anytime on if the songs are finished, or if it missed something. We always work very hard to get the songs as catchy as possible.

It´s very rare that I feel that a song is not finished, because if we feel that, we don´t record it.

Some of the songs on this album we already felt in the rehearsal room that this would be a great live song for the fans. It´s very important that the fans like the songs so we listen to what they say, but also try to put some rare songs in the set sometimes.

I hope you will not be angry at me, but last year I was destroyed by two more bands except you. The latest albums of METAL CHURCH and SAXON are as excellent as yours. I take it as a fan, so the album has to have a "solid rock balls". I really like how you insert the heavy metal elements into the thrash metal. Everyone marks you like thrash metal band, but I dare to say you're pretty much influenced by heavy metal. Is it true? Which groups are actually the biggest inspiration for you?

No I love Metal Church I already bought the new album and one of my classic albums is Saxon´s Power & The Glory so no I´m not angry at all 😊

There is so many great bands so just to name a few from Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica and Exodus and I could go on and on.

I know a lot of bands that have lyrics to songs just to sing something. I always appreciate at ARTILLERY that you have the lyrics with some idea, a sense, an opinion. How do you write the lyrics? When the inspiration come and how do you squeeze it into the music? Personally, I think that writing the lyrics is a madly hard discipline, and especially at the new record "The Face of Fear" the lyrics are great. I am often saying to myself, yes, that's exactly how I feel it.

Yes we always wanted to have some lyrics who mean something, especially about all the madness which is going on in the world today like pollution, corruption, religion, global warming, wars, misuse and pain.

A long time ago, when I have attended elementary school, one time my friend has painted your logo into my notebook. I was upset, because I did not know which band is hiding behind this logo. I immediately ran home and tried to get some information about you. Then I finally heard "By Inheritance" and when I went to the pub, I said to everyone that the best thrash metal band ever is ARTILLERY and not SLAYER! We almost got the grips with each other, haha. It was a beautiful time when we were young. How do you remember at your beginnings? Could you reveal to our readers how the albums were recorded in older times?

We had a great time recording albums in the eighties with a lot of metal party`s. We spent a lot of time in the rehearsal room which we shared with Mercyful Fate (and Metallica when they recorded Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets) so yes it was a lot of fun.

Also recording with Flemming Rasmussen was extremely good as we learned a lot of how to record at that time. It´s much easier to record these days.

I still say it to everyone, and it is clear that a long time ago the rock and heavy metal was first, and only then thrash metal has come. There is no development without basics. If we stay in the past, which musicians have actually brought you to the music in general? Is anyone who you still admire to these days, would you like to meet him and thank him for your inspiration?

Yes, I have a lot of heroes from the 70 ties I still admire, Tony Iommi, Richie Blackmore, Ian Anderson, Jim Lea, Mel Schakner & Mark Farner, Michael Schenker, Ulrich Roth and Jon Lord just to mention a few I would love to meet. I have been so lucky to meet 3 of those guys.

During your long history, you have replaced a number of vocalists. Your current vocalist Michael is doing a really great job. Each singer gave the band his own expression, but when I hear Michael, I am saying to myself: "God, it's a VOICE!" He has a great range; does it mean for you that you can afford to work better with his vocal and to go further, to a greater extreme, treble? How did you get together with him? He sang in a band which is a revival band of KING DIAMOND, am I right?

Yes Artillery have had the luck to have great singers and Michael have definately a good voice and range and can sing both the thrassy songs, the metal songs and the ballads and beside that he is also a good friend.

We played on a festival with a Mercyful Fate/King Diamond cover band with Michael as a singer and right after gave him the offer as we knew Søren was leaving and he said yes😊

You have prepared the interesting music video to the song "The Face of Fear". How the recording was going, who directed it and who is behind the main idea of the whole video?

The Video was made by a good friend of mine Terkel (Agressive) and is in my opinion the best video we had made. It´s very close to the lyrics from the song and it was made out of that by him.

You will also visit the Czech Republic in May. On what can we look forward? Are you going to play songs from the new album? These performances will be held in clubs, what I prefer rather than big festivals. Everything is more personal, more comfortable. How do you perceive Czech fans at all? I will be in the first row!

We are looking forward to return to the Czech Rep. and we will play both new and old songs.

We had some good times when we played here last time at Brutal Assault (Good beers and crowd) and looking forward to play for the Czech fans at the clubs again. I will look to see if I can catch you in first line.

I am sure you have as a band some dreams, goals, which you want to achieve yet. Could you tell us? You are the thrash metal veterans; you are recording great albums, we can still hear the enthusiasm from your music. You are touring, performing at festivals. Do you miss anything else in the puzzle?

We have achived a lot of great things like touring in places like South America, Japan, China Russia, USA, Europe etc. But never been to Australia/New Zealand. We really hope to do that.

We have played with a lot of great bands like Slayer, King Diamond, Kreator and Destruction, on festivals with bands like Black Sabbath, Saxon, Savatage and Megadeth just to mention a few but we really hope someday to tour with bands like Metallica, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden that ould be awesome to see how our songs would make it there live. But i know it would be hard to get that, but thats a big dream.

Thank you very much for the interview. You do not even know what it means to me. A fulfilled boyish dream. I wish you a lot of great ideas, sold records, sold out concerts, and also everything good in your personal lives. See you at the concert! ARTILLERY RULES

Thanks a lot for your great support, hope we can meet and drink a beer when we come 😊.

Cheers and all the best.

Rozhovor - BLASPHEMER - Album Lust of the Goat je o sexuálnych rituáloch so samotným Satanom.

Rozhovor s death metalovou skupinou BLASPHEMER z Velké Británie.

Odpovídal Arno Cagna of Blasphemer.

review:

Ave BLASPHEMER! Zdravím do Velké Británie! Doufám, že se vám daří dobře. Mělo by, protože loni jste vydali vynikající death metalovou desku!

To mě doslova uhranulo.

BLASPHEMER bol originálne aktívny v rozmedzí rokov 1990-1995, keď sme počas tejto doby vydali niekoľko demo nahrávok a hrávali sme vtedy mnoho koncertov. V roku 1995 kapela skončila, keď sme ju ja a Mass museli uložiť k ľadu kvôli iným hudobným projektom, ktorých súčasťou sme v tom čase boli. No a teraz dúfame, že príde mnoho ďalších živých koncertov.

Všetky albumy BLASPHEMER, keby sme šli späť do minulosti až po naše úplne prvé demo, boli nahrávané v Infamous Academy Studio. Nemyslím tým, zostrihať a prilepiť pasáže.

Ich dielo dokonale zobrazuje pozadie textov na "Lust Of the Goat".

O čem jsou texty na „Lust of the Goat“?

"Lust of the Goat" je o sexuálnych rituáloch so samotným Satanom.

Chýbajú u nich skutočné skladby a riffy niečo, čo dokáže zaujať. Je to len môj celkový dojem. Nikdy som doteraz nepočul hrať nikoho moderný death metal tak, že by ma to naozaj zaujalo a povedal by som si, že wow, to je fakt niečo. Radšej počúvam kapely, ktoré znejú viac old school a vedia písať riffy.

V tejto chvíli máme aj u nás vo Veľkej Británii niekoľko skvelých old school death metalových kapiel ako napríklad LIVE BURIAL, REPULSIVE VISION, MORDHAU, PEMPHIGOID a samozrejme našich kolegov z vydavateľstva THE CRAWLING a STRANGLE WIRE. No a čo sa týka nedávno vydaných albumov, ktoré zaujali moju pozornosť, to bol v podstate album od post punkovej kapely z Kanady ACTORS s názvom "It Will Come To You".

Krv je všade, no totálny horor. No a naša hudba by mohla byť v podobnej chvíli takým soundtrackom, ktorý vám hrá v hlave.

Interview - BLASPHEMER - Album Lust of the Goat is about a sex ritual with Satan himself.

Interview with death metal band from United Kingdom - BLASPHEMER.

review:

Ave BLASPHEMER! Greetings to Great Britain! I hope all well about you. It should be because last year you released an excellent death metal album! I have been listening it for some time and I consider this album as excellent. It is dark, sharp and uncompromising. How satisfied are you with the result?

Yeah I think we are all quite happy with new album. We wanted it to be heavier and darker than our debut album last year. I am personally satisfied with the end product I would like to think we succeeded in what we set out to do.

I belong to the old generation of metal fans. I'm such an underground maniac who passes through every grave. I did not know about you until 2017 when you released the album "Blasphemer". It literally enthral me. Your history dates back to 1992. I read some of the first demos, I think you had even some compilation, but nothing else. You have even interrupted your activity. Please, take us through history of BLASPHEMER.

Blasphemer as originally active between 1990 to 1995 during in this period we released demos put in a load of ground and played many gigs. The band kinda ended in 1995 when myself and Mass had to put the band on hold due to another musical project we were involved in at the time. We had a record contract with other project with Peaceville records and the demands at the time meant we didn't have the time to do both. It wasn't over for Blasphemer though as in maybe late 2012 or early 2013 Mass started talking to me about reviving the band. We eventually managed the get Dan and Dale on board and we haven't looked back since . We put out a new demo in 2015 just prior to Dan & Dale joining the band. But since then we have done loads of live shows put out our debut self titled album in 2017 & our new album Lust Of The Goat which was released 30th November 2018. Now on to more live shows for the moment.

Everyone who hears your music must think about the sound. It is unusually mouldy, gruesome and sick. It looks like you're recording somewhere in an old analogue studio. Somewhere where created their first records bands such as PESTILENCE, ASPHYX, OBITUARY, BOLT THROWER. Where and how did you record the album and who is signed under the sound?

Well it's interesting you say it sounds like an analogue recording captured in a studio in which classic records were produced. You're not too far wrong there actually. All blasphemer recording dating all the way back to our first demo have been recorded at the infamous Academy Studios. The studio is synonymous with early records many now large bands such as Paradise Lost ,Anathema,Cradle Of Filth,My Dying Bride ,Bal Sagoth etc etc. We are lucky enough to live in the same town Dewsbury where the studio as always been based. Furthermore our drummer Dan is now the in house studio engineer there too. As we have always recorded there since day one it made perfect sense both our albums were recorded there . In terms of it sounding like it was recorded on analogue equipment. Although it was recorded digitally we wanted to approach the recording like we did in the 1990s. What I mean by that it's not a cut and paste album. There was none of this that will do attitude or we will fix it later. No drum triggers and moving things round in pro tools. We hate all that shit. Takes were played properly from start to finish. If errors were made the take was scrapped and re done until they were correct. Things have to be tight but that's what you had to do back in the day. In addition to that we as a band had a clear vision of what a death metal record should sound like. Combine all those things and that's why our latest record lust of the goat sounds the way it does .

I really like the cover of the new album. Who is the author? My friend, when he first time saw your album on a bandcamp, told me that like this he imagines apocalypse. What mean the motif on a new album and how does it relate to music?

The cover is definitely striking ha ha. The concept of the cover of what would be depicted in the image came from the band. The artwork it's self was done by two friends of ours called Paul & Ant Cuthbert. They did a fantastic job I think and it came out much better than I imagined. The artwork depicts perfectly the meaning behind the lyrics to Lust Of The Goat.

An integral part of every honest record is the lyrics. I wonder where you get inspiration for them? I would have guessed from horrors of the eighties, maybe old books, but maybe I'm wrong. For me, when I heard the novelty for the first time, it reminded me by mood movies about living dead. What are the lyrics on "Lust of the Goat" about?

Our lyrics are based on many different things. Some of lyrics are based on old horror films, some of them are based on real life horrors and some are based on situations we think of. Lust of the Goat is about a sex ritual with Satan himself. It's a dark tale of invocation, sex ,death and joining the legion of hell. It's also influenced by the old horror film The Devil Rides Out but it's not based specifically on that film. We take many ideas sometimes and make a story from them and this is a good example of that.

The new album was released by British Grindscene Records. Why did you choose this label and how satisfied are you with their work?

Yeah the new album was released through Grindscene Records. We wanted to release the new record on a label that believed in the record and wanted to work with us . They really showed us they wanted to do that so it made perfect sense to release the record though them.Furthermore we are good friends with Peter Clarke who runs the label so we knew he would be very easy to work with. We are very happy with Grindscene Records because they have done everything they said they would do.

You play music old as death metal itself. How do you perceive new directions in lethal metal? I mean, mixing with death core or technical death metal? Do you have any favorite bands in "modern death metal"?

I pay little attention anything Core or a lot of what passes these days as metal. I find many modern bands over produced and focused on style over substance. Lacking songs, riffs or hooks. It's just my general impression . I haven't heard anything by anyone of late that's jumped out at me that I would say is so called modern death metal. I prefer to listen to bands that sound more old school and know how to write riffs.

What about BLASPHEMER and concerts? Do you play a lot? Are you touring or you are choosing only bigger festivals? And what about some Europe tour? What are plans for BLASPHEMER in the coming months?

Yeah we have played quite a lot over the last 4 years mainly in the U.K. & Ireland. We just did our first few concerts prior to the end of 2018 to start promoting the new album. We already have a number of dates booked this year and are hoping to come and finally play in Europe. Which is something we all really want to do. In terms of festivals we obviously apply to play festivals but you're in the hat with many other bands who are also applying. Unless you're a big band it's not easy to get on to decent festivals. Festivals take note of what bands people are requesting to be on this years event in their forums . So the more people that are talking about Blasphemer in their forums the more likely you are to see us playing that festival. That is largely out of my hands I can't control things like that.

Are you watching the scene, are you discovering new albums? What was last album which got your attention?

In terms of old school death metal there are some great bands around currently . I really like Skeletal Remains I like everything I've heard by them. Also have also really enjoyed what I've heard from Rude. In the U.K. We have some great old school death metal bands at the moment such as Live Burial, Repulsive Vision, Mordhau,Pemphigoid & of course our label mates The Crawling and Stangle Wire. In terms of the last album that grabbed my attention. It was actually a post punk band from Canada called Actors. Their latest album called It Will Come To You. It's a fantastic album. It has influences of stuff such as PIL, Killing Joke, Mission & Gary Numan. It's very dark sounding and sounds like an 80s album. I would highly recommend it.

On the end one philosophy question. What does death metal mean for you? I do not mean the technique of playing, but rather what does it mean directly to you, to your person, how do you feel it?

Imagine if you stumbled across someone who had been violently attacked and brutally stabbed to death. Blood everywhere a total horror. Well our music should be the soundtrack in your head to that moment. That's the kind of emotions I stir up within myself in order to create the music.

Thank you very much for the interview. I wish BLASPHEMER all good, lots of sold media, sold out concerts and inspiration for the future. I firmly believe that my dream come true and I'll see you sometimes alive. Good luck with whatever you do in your personal lives.

THE RASMUS

Pomocí obrazů i hudby.

Bicí nahrané v samotném pekle a vokál bestie.

Vynikající a dokonalá definice totálního zla! Inferno!

Asphyx says:

Imagine a tree in the middle of scorched earth. Pieces of chopped bodies are hanging on it. Blood drips down to the branches; the whole scene resembles the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch. So much pain, so much suffering. A huge weight pushes on you, and you are wondering who has been able to commit such a great deal of evil? It seems that one body is still moving. A silent scream, the last expiration. Humanity has been trying to show evil by images and music for centuries. I dare to say that the Polish death metalists EMBRIONAL came close to the absolute definition.

Gloomy atmosphere, heavy, painful riffs. Drums recorded in the hell itself and vocal of the beast. This is not just a regular album in a row, but a cruel cut into our brains. I remember all the songs from the beginning, but I still discover something new after further listening. EMBRIONAL, thank Satan, have avoided unnecessary confusions, they are betting on clear and distinct motifs. Everything is supported by great talent and the ability to compose impressive and dark compositions. The demons are alive! Evil is coming!

"Evil Dead" is a magical album influenced by bands like INCANTATION, IMMOLATION, MORBID ANGEL. EMBRIONAL further develops this musical style, opens up other dead chambers, transforms underground rituals into music; they are stunning, crazy, and furious. The album acts as a piece of classical music played on guitars and drums. In every song, I found something interesting, unusual, wild. Moreover, I still enjoy listening to this album (great sound and album cover!). I'm stalking the dark streets of the deserted city of death. The hanged corpses are hanging on the trees; the undead is rising, I am thinking about the apocalypse, about the music that will sound at the end of the world. I would recommend "Evil Dead" to all demons, undead, to all who love occult death metal rituals. The Pandora's Box was opened, and I wonder how many forms of evil do exist. That one which EMBRIONAL brings us is perfect. Mad, believable, raw. Death does not know mercy! An excellent and perfect definition of total evil! Inferno!

Recenze/review - MALEVOLENT CREATION - The 13th Beast (2019)

MALEVOLENT CREATION - The 13th Beast

Mám kapely rozdělené do několika skupin.

Death metal, notně nasáklý thrashem, můžeme s klidem označit ochrannou známkou Made in MALEVOLENT CREATION.

Asphyx says:

Crushed hand, fragmented fracture. The bone that is white and bloody as human conscience. I didn't win yesterday’s street fight, again. They were in predominance, and I was every time different - with long hair and headphones in the ears. But I fought, I always fight. Mostly I lose and I collect my broken body for several weeks, but they do not get me. I'm from an old school, I come from the times when death metal was born.

I divide bands into several groups. From some, I expect progression, new approaches, and surprises. And then I like old bards, from whom I expect they will continue in the style and manner of playing which is specific for them. Legendary MALEVOLENT CREATION belongs to the bands, on whose albums I always wait with impatient. This year I needed a good dose of devastating death thrash metal into my veins, like never before. I know, Brett Hoffmann was just one, but time goes inexorably. When I listen to the record "The 13th Beast", of course, I always recall the memories of our short meeting in Prague after the concert. My review is also an honor and tribute to his work, his life, the death metal which he had in his blood like only some few.

"The 13th Beast" is an album as cut out from the nineties. With true sound, devastating drums, pressure, and energy. I really feel like I'm somewhere in a dark street on the outskirt of our dirty city, and a group of brutal rapists beat me. Death metal, deeply soaked with thrash, can be branded by the trademark Made by MALEVOLENT CREATION. I got exactly what I wanted. An old, good, honest death that walks around the world with a rusty scythe and takes all without exception. Without mercy, brutally, with absolute dedication. I'm attacked by individual songs, and I still have to get up to add volume to the player. This is scabby music from the old dogs, who exactly understand to their craft. In addition, enthusiasm, determination, and pressure are added. The record was penetrating into my veins a little bit longer in comparison with the previous records, but finally, it spoiled my blood entirely in the same way. Absolute death metal, total death!
