Recenze/review - XPUS - In Umbra Mortis Sedent (2020):

Ave XPUS! I haven’t found any interview in the Czech language with you, yet. So please, first introduce the band to our readers who don’t know you. You could start from the early beginnings and describe the whole XPUS history.

XPUS band was founded by me in January 2015, at the end of March I recorded the first demo like a "One-Man Band" and thanks to that, one month later, I signed a contract with Ukraine Label "Metal Scrap Records" for the release of debut album, of course I needed to switch the band typology from "One-Man Band" to "Full band" so I called my old friend and ex member in my every old music projects "Mornak" (guitars) and "L" (Drums). In June we started the recording for the debut album called : “Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth” which was published in November. In the 2016 with a new Drummer called “Ulvirøs” we played many gigs in Italy and abroad, we appeared in two compilation, the first one named “Blasphemy by thy name vol.3” released by “Metal Music Austria” and in “Witchery Flames Of Underground Lust" released by “Metal Scrap Records”. In October we partecipated to the Festival "Rites of the black mass" in Bucharest with Enthroned, Bolzer ,Possession, Infernal IWar and many others bands. In September 2017 we entered Studio for the second chapter called: "In Umbra Mortis Sedent" and after 2 months we signed a deal with Transcending Obscurity Label. In May 2018 we went in Tour in the east of Europe. After two years, in April 2020 our album was finally released. Unfortunately, due to Covid 19, all of our plans for supporting the album release went to fuck...... So now, waiting for better times, we are closed in our rehersal room to complete the future third chapter.

On 8. 5. 2020 Transcending Obscurity Records released your new album "In Umbra Mortis Sedent". As the name suggests, it is again a whirlwind of honest black and old death metal. When did you go out of studio, how did you feel? Introduce a little bit your new album to your fans.

Well, when we finished the recording of the new album, we felt... "strange" because after months of preparing for the work in the studio, we finished all in only 8 hours, 4 hours for the music part and another 4 hours for the lirycs, so you can understand that this thing is unusual, we felt good but also "is it all over?" we didn't have the opportunity to taste the entire process of album creation, all was too fast. "Umbra Mortis Sedent" is a deepest obscure and blasphemous genuine extreme metal album, no innovations, no clean voices, no super recording with blasting and plastic sound. This album is our personal tribute to the music we love, and we grew up with.

I really enjoyed a very raw and "mangy" sound on the new album. Where did you record and mix the album and who is signed under the production?

I'm happy to hear this, we spent many hours searching for a personal sound. We recorded the album in a very particular place, a mix between castle and farmhouse, this building is always used by some professional Theater companies for their rehearsals. In order to exalt and bring on the recording the raw sound that we have on stage we didn't want a real professional studio. The man behind the recording and mixing is Manuel Marani of "Mara's Cave" here in italy, for the mastering instead Dan Lowndes of "Resonance Sound Studio" in England.

I am also interested about the cover of the album. If I understand it well, so it is a scene from an old occult book. Cover is hell, dark and mysterious like your new album. What does this idea mean? And who painted it?

No it isn't a cover of old book, when Kunal (Boss of Transcending Obscurity) listened the whole album wrote to me and said " your music remember me old underground catacombs, Death darkness and desolation, what do you think about this concept? Of course was a cool idea! The artwork was created by Misanthropic-Art, really great work, i love it.

As a band, you are dealing with satanism, occultism, death, violence. What are the lyrics about on the new recording? What is the main theme and idea of "In Umbra Mortis Sedent"?

In the album you can find only 2 lyrics, the first one is splitted in the first two songs, it talks about a man that in order to get rid from the satanic voices that torment him, is forced to make a satanic ritual and kill a young virgin girl, but at the end he understands that there aren‘t any voices, all is in his head, he is just crazy, he takes pleasure to plan in kidnapping, torturing, killing the girl and taking pleasure in rape her dead mutilated body. He understands that there is no chance to escape from his madness, the only escape is suicide. The song: “The Gates of Doom“ is a rivisited cover of an our (mine and Mornak) old Black Metal band called Unholy Land so this song is apart. The second lyric is splitted from all the rest of the songs and talks about a little child raped by a priest, in this case I try to tell the story from a different point of view, the priest who tries to resist but the impulses is so strong and uncontrollable, the pleasure of his flesh blending with child's flesh, the possession upon his body, the crying alone in his hall after the coitus, he hate all of this but he is a fucking asshole and he knows that soon another child will become one of his victims. The point of view of the child, alone in this great room with the priest, he is too strong, no escape, his hands all around the body, his kisses and his drool, his fetid breath in the throat, the rape and the entire life ruined with future continuous nightmares.

You play totally nihilistic death/ black metal. This is exactly the kind of inferno that listeners really mess up their nerve and auditory canal. How did you get to this style? Did you pass as musicians other styles of music? Did you play in other bands? Who actually influenced you at the beginning?

When I was 14 years old I found a cassette with the inscription "Slayer - Hell Awaits": this was the beginning for me, I was already listening metal music like Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica, Manowar Venom etc. but that album changed everything. After 1 year I met some guys older than me that brought in my life bands like: Grave, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Autopsy etc etc. No other kind of music in my life. I play extreme music since 1995, with Bathim (Black Metal), Unholy Land (Black Metal), Soulphureus (Death Metal) all dead Bands, now I play only in Xpus. Only the great olden bands of the past influence me/us.

The new album on CD, vinyl and cassette was released by Transcending Obscurity Records. The label has a very good name in the underground and it does a great job because people often hear about bands this label works with. Were you, as a band, satisfied with their work?

Yes. Kunal, Boss of T.O. is a real metalhead and he puts all his passion into his work, our album is released for now only in 2 different format, the digipak version and the limited box edition, both are very cool productions with glow in the dark effect, I love the creativity of T.O. and these innovative ideas, we are very satisfied, yes.

How about XPUS and concerts? I looked online and I found out that you mostly play in underground clubs. Do people often go to old death black metal concerts in Italy? Do you want to support your album with a tour? If yes, do you want to play in the Czech Republic?

We love play on stage, we are a live band, it doesn’t matter if it’s a big or underground club, for us the only important thing is play. Unfortunately, this is a real strange and waste period, the Covid 19 ruined all, so now, we don’t have any plan for the near future, we have to wait and hope. For now, we prepare us for the future gigs and continue the work on the new album and if will be the possibility to play in your country, we'll come for sure man!

Nowadays, many people download music online and they only use its digital form. How do you feel about this as a musician?

Internet bring us some great possibilities but also it ruined many others. all this savage illegal download has brought the music business to its knees so now, the Labels don't invest anymore in the new bands and more doors are closed for many guys around the world, some of them (Labels) ask a lot of money to the Bands for the releases, this is shameful, play extreme Metal is a vocation, as a band you can't expect to make money with this kind of music but not even sell a kidney for everything, damn! Lastly, today is too simple to get a new album, so you lost the taste of what was all around, the waiting, the trusted shop, touch the physical copy, opening it, see the lirics, the photos, the run to home or in your car to listen to it, you understand me? All this is lost today. Today is all aseptic.

Are there any albums which have caught your attention recently?

No, but only because in the last period I'm very busy with my work and some problems, unfortunately no time for search new music.

Do you know and listen any Czech bands?

Yes of course, some of them? Krabathor, Pathologist, Disfigured Corpse, Maniac Butcher, Root.

What are XPUS ´s plans for the next few months?

As I said, in this strange period is hard to plan and organize things, we wait...

Thank you for the interview and I wish you many sold albums, hundreds of crazy fans and tons of great ideas.

Many thanks to you, for the space you gave us and for all your words, really appreciated,

See you in Hell.

Recenze/review - DEVASTATOR - Baptised in Blasphemy (2020)

DEVASTATOR - Baptised in Blasphemy
CD 2020, Clobber Records

for english please scroll down

Někdo zase uřízl kozlí hlavu a nabodl ji na kůl. Rovnou před kostel. Jako symbol proti všemu, proti zkažený hnusný společnosti. Některý lidi by konečně měli vyndat hlavu ze zadku. Stačí se rozhlédnout kolem sebe. Satan a metal je jedinou jistotou. Starej prašivej rock´n´roll. Pivo a vztek, frustrace potřebují po týdnu stereotypu zase ven. Hej kámo, vypni konečně všechny obrazovky a pojď si zařádit.

Vohul repráky a nalej další pivo!

"Baptised in Blasphemy" je prašivým thrash black metalovým albem, ve kterém je možné zaslechnout inspiraci třeba takovými VENOM, MOTORHEAD, DESASTER, SODOM, BATHORY, AURA NOIR, DESTROYER 666. Špína a temnota, ostré riffy a chlad. A o to tu běží především! Kolem praskají lebky tlakem a vám to vůbec nevadí.

Asphyx says:

Someone cut off the goat's head again and stabbed it on the stake. Right in front of the church. As a symbol against everything, against a corrupt ugly society. Some people should finally take their heads out of their asses. Just look around. Satan and metal is the only certainty. Old dusty rock´n´roll. Beer and anger, frustration need after a week of stereotype be release again. Hey dude, finally turn off all the screens and come join. We'll make a company, we'll wild. I have a review from the British black thrasher DEVASTATOR for a review. They do things by old school way, hurry up, I'm waiting at front of your house.

Drink like a beast, babble non-sense. Forget about work, all problems. This requires music that cuts and burns and you can mosh-pit. "Baptized in Blasphemy" is a good choice, not just for today. Add volume on speakers and pour more beer.

"Baptized in Blasphemy" is a dusty thrash black metal album in which you can hear inspiration from the bands as VENOM, MOTORHEAD, DESASTER, SODOM, BATHORY, AURA NOIR, DESTROYER 666. Dirt and darkness, sharp riffs and cold. Nothing new in the graveyard, but the album is perfectly played, with a great sound and I just really enjoy listening to it. And that's what it's all about! When you listen, you turn off, remembering your metal beginnings. The skulls are bursting with pressure around and you don't mind at all. You jump into the cauldron and fight for your life. This is how I imagine well-played old school metal! No compromises, interesting ideas, lots of spoiled atmosphere. After many years, the old tomb was opened, exhumed and rinsed with liquid filth, the crosses turned over and the fires lit. DEVASTATOR belongs here and that's where their music comes from. I feel like I've gone back in time to the eighties and there are only true names on my jeans. I'm very happy that I met a new band for me so far in the underground. It is pure, real, believable and can pull me into the depths. Destructive, cool black thrash metal that will burn mark on your head. Great! Satan is smiling!

A few questions - interview with black/thrash metal band from United Kingdom - DEVASTATOR.

A few questions - interview with black/thrash metal band from United Kingdom - DEVASTATOR.

1. Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

DEVASTATOR: Hails, we are Devastator from the United Kingdom, the band was founded in 2017 and we play a primitive form of Black Thrash/Speed Metal in the vein of classic bands like Venom, Bathory and Motorhead.

2. Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

DEVASTATOR: Our new album ‘Baptised in Blasphemy’ was recorded at RatCat Studios in Derbyshire, UK in the early months of 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic finally stormed the shores of the United Kingdom. The production was handled by the studio main-man Natt Webb who did an excellent job capturing our furious hellscapes that you hear on the album.

3. How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

DEVASTATOR: The release is still on going, however it has sold extremely well so far, covering five continents with countless orders made to Australia, Japan, Scandinavia, North America, Canada and of course mainland Europe. It has come out on CD digipack, two different cassette variants and of course digital and streaming platforms, though vinyl still alludes us, however we aim to correct this at some point in the future!

4. Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

DEVASTATOR: The final lyrics were penned and performed by lead vocalist and bassist Thomas Collings, though ideas were shared out across all four members. The lyrical content of ‘Baptised in Blasphemy’ explores the Satanic themes that have been intertwined with Heavy Metal since its inception with Black Sabbath and Black Widow.

5. Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

DEVASTATOR: Our logo was created by the ‘Lord of the Logos’ himself, Christophe Szpajdel. Famous for creating logos and art for iconic artists such as Emperor, Enthroned, Desaster, Black Witchery, Metallica and…Rihanna!?...Yep! He came highly recommended by our friends in the UK Metal scene when we were sowing the seeds of what was eventually to come.

6. Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takes care about you?

DEVASTATOR: We released ‘Baptised in Blasphemy’ through Clobber Records, an independent Extreme Metal label based here in the United Kingdom. The process of finalising the deal with the label was brief, both the label owners had seen us live at a Black Metal day-festival in the high north of England called Black Tor Festival back in 2018, so they were both already familiar with our work. Once they heard the early mixes of the album they expressed a lot interest in signing us up for the album deal, after some discussion and paper work that was it, very simple. So far, Clobber Records have been absolutely fantastic and we couldn’t be happier with how they handled the release of ‘Baptised in Blasphemy’, we look forward to a bright future with them.

7. Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

DEVASTATOR: We enjoy a vast variety of different musical styles as individual music fans, but in terms of what we do together in Devastator the influences are very much worn on our sleeves. As we mentioned briefly in the introduction, classic bands such as Venom, Bathory, Motorhead along with early Sodom, Destruction and Kreator and early Slayer, Sepultura, Hellhammer and Celtic Frost to name a handful.

8. Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

DEVASTATOR: There were some others in mind, which will remain nameless here, but we felt that Clobber Records was the best option for us.

9. How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

DEVASTATOR: We have a played a number shows since we formed as Devastator, it’s hard to keep track of exactly how many we have played over these last few years. We like all types of shows, from festivals to halls to clubs, as long as we can do our thing and people enjoy what we do then we’ll play any show. It is hard to choose one great show but any of our performances at our stomping grounds at The Sitwell Tavern in our hometown of Derby were always busy and intense, as we mentioned before our performance at the Black Tor Festival is considered as one of our best and one of the largest audiences we have played to as well…at least we think, there was a lot of smoke in the venue at the time…

10. What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

DEVASTATOR: With the difficult issues surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic we have had to change a lot of our plans for ‘Baptised in Blasphemy’ with cancelling and rescheduling shows and tours. We will be pushing forward with some future plans we have and making more announcements as the month’s progress, all will be revealed soon.

11. How and where can your fans contact you? Can you provide some contact information?

DEVASTATOR: They can find us on social media: on Facebook at facebook.com/devastatorblackthrash and on Instagram at @devastatoruk, you can find merchandise on our official webstore: devastatorblackthrash.bandcamp.com and you can order our new album ‘Baptised in Blasphemy’ at the official Clobber Records webstore as well as digitally on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, and all other major streaming platforms.

PŘÍBĚHY MRTVÉHO MUŽE - Příběh dvoustý šedesátý sedmý - Když cítím z muziky smrt a temnotu

Příběh dvoustý šedesátý sedmý - Když cítím z muziky smrt a temnotu

Jana a Prcalinka. A pořád mi mluvily do duše. Kluci z Liberce, Jablonečáci, sem tam i nějakej jinej seveřan.

No dobře, ale mám hlad. Snad do toho nedávají nic zakázanýho.

Pak metrem, asi. Já si tyhle cesty většinou fakt nepamatuju. Jakmile v něčem sedím a hýbe se to, usínám. Probudí mě až před Edenem. Tam už postávají podobný typy co my.

Jdeme k baru a tam sedí FLESHCRAWL.

My se touláme Prahou. Jsme ztracení v tom velkým městě a bloudíme. Byl to náročný, sportovní výkon, dnes jsme si fakt užili. Vylezeme z baru a svítá.

Kalíme až do oběda. To si vůbec nepamatuju. Dostanu hroznou chuť na DEICIDE, SINISTER a FLESCRAWL. Už vím, co budu celý víkend poslouchat. Byl to moc fajn večer. Doslova hmatatelně jsem znovu cítil z muziky smrt a temnotu.

Vize je taková, že každou neděli vyjde jeden příběh (pokud mi do toho tedy něco nevleze). Všechny pak budou postupně doplňovány zde (pravý sloupec na stránkách):

Recenze/review - JOHANSSON & SPECKMANN - The Germs Of Circumstance (2020)

JOHANSSON & SPECKMANN - The Germs Of Circumstance
CD 2020, Soulseller Records

for english please scroll down

Zombie vylezou z děr a zase jednou nám ukážou, co znamená opravdová smrt. Novinka má v sobě potřebný feeling a drive. JOHANSSON & SPECKMANN vzali kus mokvajícího, chorobami nasáklého masa a omlátili mi jej o obličej. Poslouchat "The Germs Of Circumstance" je opravdu hodně podobné, jako strávit společný čas s vichřicí v katakombách. Kosti a lebky létají vzduchem, zombie se točí v kruhu. Odpadávají jim kusy těla a vy se s chutí přidáte. Tady se totiž hraje ryzí, poctivý smrtící kov, u kterého vám pukne lebka tlakem. Absolutní masakr, parádní zvuk i obal, totální inferno, šílenství smíchané s temnotou.

Asphyx says:

Human remains trading, pieces of bodies stored illegally in the cellar. Open the grave and you may find that someone else is buried there. The world is getting more and more insane, one must naturally succumb to endless nihilism. Too bad the meteorologists didn't warn us. Hurricane JOHANSSON & SPECKMANN flew through our city again, leaving only a cleansing trigger. Death metal that have no mercy. Dusty like an old wooden casket.

When the Swedish riff master Rogga Johansson joined together with Paul Speckmann from the legendary MASTER (plus drums Brynjar Helgetun) years ago, I was looking forward to what kind of music would fall out of them. The gentlemen have death metal in their blood. They break bones with even more force than before. You can smell musty, rotten dead bodies and darkness on the album.

"The Germs Of Circumstance" is really like a strong storm that flies through the cemetery, leaving uprooted graves. Zombies come out of the holes and once again show us what real death means. I feel ancient nihilism, determination, honest craftsmanship from the songs. No compromises, no uselessness, but just rolling, devastating old school death metal. The novelty has the necessary feeling and drive. Possible to feels that it was recorded with enthusiasm. JOHANSSON & SPECKMANN took a piece of disease-soaked meat and beat it on my face. Listening to "The Germs Of Circumstance" is really a lot like spending time together with a storm in the catacombs. Bones and skulls fly through the air, zombies spin in a circle. They lose pieces of body and you will join with pleasure. This is where pure, honest death metal is played, and your skull bursting under the pressure. Absolute massacre, great sound and cover, total inferno, madness mixed with darkness. Other bodies were lost in the morgue. Businesses have to move and the money doesn't stink. Real death metal that leaves a blood-dark imprint in you!

Rozhovor s black/thrash/death metalovou skupinou z Peru - PUTRID.

Odpovídali PUTRID, děkujeme!

Přeložila Petra, děkujeme!

Otázky připravil Jakub Asphyx.

Recenze/review - PUTRID - Antichrist Above (2020):

Ave PUTRID!

V prvom rade sme to boli my dvaja so spevákom, ktorí skladali piesne a rozhodovali o smerovaní kapely. Vokalista (Juank - náš predchádzajúci spevák) musel z osobných dôvodov skončiť a viac-menej odvtedy všetka zodpovednosť padla na moje plecia, keďže v kapele figurujem ako hlavný skladateľ a textár. V súčasnosti už máme vonku veľa splitiek, ale iba dva plnohodnotné albumy: „The Triumph of Impurity“ (Lord of the Flies records- Taliansko) a „Antichrist Above“ (Godz of War Prod- Poľsko).

Mluvili jste nějak do výsledného zvuku?

Album sme nahrávali vo vlastnom nahrávacom štúdiu (Putrid Bunker). Strávili sme tam 4 dni v kuse, aby sme nahrali všetko naraz. Ale čas medzi mixom a masteringom potom zabral ďalší mesiac. Bolo to naozaj skvelé mať tú možnosť nahrávať v známom prostredí, cítili sme sa veľmi pohodlne, keďže sme mohli nahrávať s vlastným nastavením zvuku.

Bolo by totálne hlúpe písať nejakú zložitú poéziu v spojení s daným hudobným rámcom; takže to bolo tiež jedno veľké FUCK OFF pre vás všetkých a vaše rituálne víkendové kapely.

No, pandémia posrala celý rok 2020, takže sme počas celej tejto doby nemali čas ani na skúšanie.

Najskôr teda nahráme spomínanú kompilačku a potom budeme pracovať ďalej s už napísanými skladbami a skladbami, ktoré ešte len plánujeme zložiť v budúcnosti, aby sme si potom mohli vyberať zo širšej plejády materiálu.

EVOCATION, KRABATHOR a samozrejme MANIAC BUTCHER (mám dokonca vinyl podpísaný samotným Barbarudom Hromom.

My ďakujeme za skutočnú podporu.

Interview - PUTRID - We are, mainly a black death metal band.

Interview with black/thrash/death metal band from Peru - PUTRID.

Answered PUTRID, thank you!

Translated Petra, thank you!

Questions prepared Jakub Asphyx.

Recenze/review - PUTRID - Antichrist Above (2020):
https://www.deadlystormzine.com/2020/08/recenzereview-putrid-antichrist-above.html

Ave PUTRID! I haven’t found any interview in the Czech language with you, yet. So please, first introduce the band to our readers who don’t know you. You could start from the early beginnings and describe the whole PUTRID history.

Hails, Putrid was formed ten years ago. Those who were present on the first line up, came from some other bands which were disbanded. Primarily, the singer and I were the ones who composed the songs and decided the direction of the band. He (Juank – our previous singer) had to quit for personal reasons and more or less since then everything falls upon my shoulders as a main composer and lyricist. At the time we have a lot of splits but only two albums: The Triumph of Impurity (Lord of the Flies records- Italy) and Antichrist Above (Godz of War Prod- Poland). We are, mainly a black death metal band.

I’m just listening to your new record „Antichrist Above“ and I feel like as if I am closed in some tomb together with SARCÓFAGO, IMMORTAL, MARDUK, MORBID ANGEL, IMPIETY, HEADHUNTER D. C. . The record has a great dark sound. Where did you record it and how satisfied you are with it? Did you have the "last word" concerning the resulting sound?

We recorded it at our own recording studio (Putrid Bunker). We were there like 4 days straight for all the recording takes. But almost a month between mixing and mastering. It was something great recording at our own studio because we were very confortable recording with our own sound.

Regarding the satisfaction that this implies, I think that it sounds better than everything we have ever done before, but due to time contraints we couldn’t improve it. Perhaps later on we will be able to improve the audio and do something about it, but at the momentit sounds good under the given circumstances.

How was the new material for album „Antichrist Above“ created? How exactly PUTRID writes the music?

The last three Putrid Productions have been, basically, under my authory. The arrangements have been a cooperation between all members, but music and lyrics have been composed almost exlusively by myself, with the exception of a song in which Sacrifier is co-author.

The idea is that I’ve always come with a riffing structure and the bpm of the song in order to give the drummer more control over the songs. We always make a draft and under a blackboard which we have at the studio, structure the tempos, riffs, repetitions, bridges and finales. We make a very home made recording and with that we come back to the next rehearsal. There are tracks in which we have changed almost 60-70% of the riffs and we end up doing a completely new track, different from the first shots, but this is done because we can allow ourselves the time to write songs during the rehearsals.

„Antichrist Above“ has dark cover art. Who is an author? I really like his work. How did you actually choose the idea of the cover and what exactly illustrates?

Do you remember Mortuary Drape’s cover art? That’s the basic idea. Look, as a matter of fact everything is connected within this album, but I think that very few people have realised this because nowadays they look more complex ways to reception in Metal. People are looking to feel themselves more special regarding the quantity of weird bands they can get hold of and listen to, which to me, is a real waste of time. The idea for the cover was mine, as I already told you, based on Mortuary Drape’s AWD cover art, but this goes hand in hand with the lyrics and what we look with the music itself. Our objective was sounding totally aggressive and we wanted, for the cover art, something which will not take away the attention to that fact. False complex matters already present on Metal, generally, is something which not only bore me to death, but also I despise them.

Could you reveal us who is an author of the lyrics and what is their background? Where did you take inspiration for certain topics?

The subject related to the lyrics have achieved the desired result. I remember that, during one of the first album reviews, someone said that Antichrist Above doesn’t bring anything new regarding its construction, but that fact wasn’t vital for the album, because Metal, nowadays became so „gentle“ that more bands like that are needed. When I read that, I was pretty pleased, because that guy completely understood what we wanted to achieve with the album. When I sit down to write those lyrics, I did it with the will of writing the most simple and direct lyrics I had ever done, with the idea that those who expected to find stupid mysticisms on a new band could just fuck off. The lyrics had to go hand in hand with the music and the music we made was violent and dirty. It would had been something totally stupid writing poetry under that musical frame; so it was also a big FUCK OFF to you and your ritualistic weekend bands.

You play music as old as death/black/thrash metal itself. How do you perceive new directions in the death metal? I mean mixing with death core or technical death metal? Do you have any favourite bands in “modern metal”?

As a metter of fact I’m not aware of the new bands which are popping out nowadays. There are few of them which I have got, but it’s because they are from my country. If you mean about modern metal...I think that since the early 2000 there’s nothing you could say that it could be labeled as novel. Perhaps what Kapala and Tetragrammacide are doing nowadays, but it doesn’t convince me the noisy sound they make anyways. I know that they’re doing it just fine and getting a proper response, but I don’t share their way of doing metal.

From my country I’m listening very much to Perverse Rites and from Germany to Attic, who are the heirs of Mercyful fate, that is the new stuff I’ve got lately.

What about PUTRID and concerts? Do you play a lot? Are you going on tour or you are choosing only bigger festivals? And what about touring over Europe?

Well, pandemic fucked up all 2020, so we didn’t even had the time to rehearse during all this time. However, we have already 6 new tracks ready to be completed which will be included on the third album, but we won’t release any new material until 2022 or so. However, we will be working during the next year on a compilation album containing the entirety of our splits plus some covers from bands such as War (Sweden), Holocausto (Brasil) and Dios Hastio (Peru), plus some other bands.

We will record this and after that we will work with the songs already written and those which we’ll write in the future in order to have a wider variety to choose from. Playing in Europe would be great but I imagine that taking a band like us to play over there should be very expensive, including plane tickets and else. I know that there are currently bands who pay for their own tickets and then they try to make some money to cover their own costs when they are there. If we had a reliable organizer we could be able to do just that, but we don’t know anyone over there who goes through that and guarantees us that we’re not going to face any trouble.

Can you recommend some new albums, which impressed you at the latest time?

Sure thing! As I told you, Perverse Rites from Peru and Attic from Germany. After that, I’ve got some stuff which I already had on CD, but I wanted it on vinyl anyway. It is difficult listening to new bands under this pandemic context. I hope that during the course of the next year many productions will be released with the time that the bands had available to compose new material.

Do you know and listen to some metal bands from the Czech Republic?

Evocation, Krabathor and, of course Maniac Butcher (I’ve got a vinyl signed by Barbarud Hrom).

We are slowly approaching the end of the interview so I would like to ask one more philosophical question. How would you define the death/black/thrash metal style? What represents this music for you and why did you choose exactly this genre?

It is somewhat difficult to answer such a question because , at least regarding putrid, Things weren’t totally planned. When Juank reunited us, he told us that he wanted to play on a band influenced by black metal punk, something in between Misfits with Darkthrone., something more alike to Carpathian Forest’s „He’s Turning Blue“, but, as you can see, things have changed a lot during the course of 10 years. What could be said is that things should fall by their own weight. It is also true that this style is not very hyped nowadays because everybody are trying to use robes and incense on their shows which is garbage to us. I think that Putrid’s own style carries the biggest possible honesty, without any single space within the cannons of modern Metal.

What PUTRID is planning for the next few months?

Start rehearsing these songs we want to cover, it is planned to be a double album, so we are at it right now. I think that playing out of the country is a little difficult. At some given time we’ll do it. We have had some offers to go to Canada, but nothing is certain yet. We care more about recording anyway.

Thank you for the interview and I wish you a lot of sold CDs, hundreds of crazy fans and tons of great ideas.

Thanks to you for the real support. We hope that one day we’ll be able to have a beer with you, either on a tour in your country or on a visit from you to Peru.
