Recenze/review - CASTRATOR - Defiled in Oblivion (2022)

CASTRATOR - Defiled in Oblivion
CD 2022, Dark Descent Records

for english please scroll down

Kapela má na svém kontě jednu demonahrávku a jedno EP ("No Victim" - 2015).

Asphyx says:

The pain you carry with you all your life. The wounds on your body and your soul. Just a few minutes and everything changed. A quiet, dark street, not far from your house. You used to walk this way every day. The worst part is, the bastard got caught and got all the care he needed. The world was a very dark place and the clouds were touching the ground. Violence gives rise to violence, but there is only one justice. You remember how he smiled. His quiet whisper. Sometimes you wonder if you should have died.

I was reminded of this story when I started listening to the new album by American CASTRATOR. The old, brutal and dusty death metal, literally soaked with rage and corrupted blood, was very fitting. Sometimes I feel very sad when I read the news.

The band has one demo and one EP ("No Victim" - 2015). You can then (as always) approach the news in two ways. Either you will compare CASTRATOR's production to bands like CANNIBAL CORPSE, DEICIDE, MORBID ANGEL or you will detach yourself from it and enjoy the rough and raw death metal that is well played, has a good sound and cover. There are plenty of interesting moments on the record as well. The songs roll forward like some pretty massive avalanche. They will bone you alive, just like all the violent bastards who deserve it. It's old school carnage, but with a fresh wind at its back. All things considered, there's not really much to read into CASTRATOR. The ladies are going about it the right way, I like their attitude and the enthusiasm that can be felt throughout the record. We are of course moving deep underground, in dark and dirty streets, old autopsy rooms and slaughterhouses. I always write that death metal was, is and will be about bad things. It points them out, criticizes and buries them. I recommend listening very loudly, with a clear mind, and preferably in absolute darkness. Because that's when "Defiled in Oblivion" is at its best. The album is like a piece of raw, dripping meat that someone throws right in your face (and the cover from VENOM only confirms everything)! A death metal massacre that will knock all your teeth out!

A few questions - interview with death metal band CASTRATOR from United States.

A few questions - interview with death metal band CASTRATOR from United States.

Answered Carolina Pérez Arango, thank you!

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

Hello!

Thank you for this interview.

Castrator is an old school death metal band with a fresh perspective. The band was formed in 2014 in NYC and has been through a few line up changes but we have definitely found our sound and permanent line up now consisting of:

Clarissa Badini (vocals) Carolina Perez (drums) Robin Mazen (bass) Kimberly Orellana (guitar)

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

The album was recorded remotely, Daniel Gonzalez (Feral cat studio) did all the pre-production and was our main producer while the drums were recorded in NY at Full force studios, vocals in Pittsburgh with Jordan Milner and all guitars and bass in Florida by Daniel Gonzalez.

The album was mixed and mastered by the one and only Jarrett Prichard at New Constellation studios in Orlando, FL.

How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

The album was released in CD, Cassette’s Vinyl and all digital platforms. As for the numbers, we prefer to keep that private.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

The lyrics were all written by Carolina Perez and Robin Mazen.

The lyrics talk about all different subjects, some are period pieces(Voices of Evirato and Inquisition sins) and some more current events (Dawa of Yousafzai, Purge the rotten ones,Forsaken and Deprived) as well as some dark phycology (Befoul my Existence, Tormented by Atrocities, Sinister mind)

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

The logo was created by Jon Zig.

Carolina is in Charge of all social media content.

Yes social Media is very important, I Spend at least three hours a day working, networking and updating socials.

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

Dark Descent records.

Yes, the are the absolute best label to work with.

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

We all have different backgrounds but we all agree on a few that really inspire our sound, those bands are:

Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Immolation.

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

Yes, we sent our EPK to a lot of labels but we would also like to keep that private(sorry)

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

With the current line up only one (Death nexus fest) we have some gigs planned for September as well as a full US tour in November-December.

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

We want to play a lot of shows and keep writing death metal songs, hopefully we can release another album in the near future.

How and where can your fans contact you? Can you provide some contact information? We are in most social media platforms.
