Interview with death metal band from Paraguay - VERTHEBRAL.

Hi Daniel! 

You come (for us Europeans) from a rather exotic country - Paraguay from the city of Ciudad del Este where you founded the death metal band Verthebral in 2013. If I am right, you and Gabriel have played before and are still playing in the heavy metal band Ariman, it is a quite jump from heavy metal to old-school death metal, isn’t it? How did this happen and why did you choose to start playing death metal? 

It no longer surprises me when people tell us that we come from an exotic country, many people never heard anything about Paraguay, I think that’s good because people are more curious when they find a death metal band from an unknown place, when they listen our music, most of them get a good impression from our songs, that’s what matters after all. 

About our current line up I must say that have changed, I don’t play anymore on Ariman and Gabriel left Verthebral, now he’s playing only in Ariman and I play only in Verthebral, each one by his side, this changes happened at the end of 2017, the separation was friendly, there was no anger or disagreement on both sides, we simply follow different paths . 

Now we have a new drummer, his name is Denis Viveros, he’s very technical and talented, there’s a lot of expectations about things we can do together in Verthebral,. 

About the jump from heavy metal to play death metal, for me was natural and easy, I always was a fan of death metal, for me it's the musical genre where I feel better. 



How difficult it is for a new band with a relatively first record (on your account is before one EP) to get into the fans' awareness and promote the band? Found label, book gigs? Does it help that you have the experience from other bands and you already have some contacts, or it was hard work and you had to do everything from the beginning? 

When you start a band it really takes a lot of work and dedication, before our first album we have released an EP called ‘‘Adultery Of Soul‘‘ (2015), we did it totally independent and the response within our local escene was very positive, on the other hand without experience and lack of money we had to learn everything on our own to make it happen, 

To reach international projection for a new band like us it’s very difficult, there‘s a huge amount of new bands emerging day by day, releasing albums every day, your band must be more than good, there’s a big competition. We were very lucky finding three good labels like Satanath, More Hate and Final Gates Records, they trusted in our music and decided to release our album, that was very important for us, we won our place based on hard work, writing an album with high quality, no one gives you anything by casuality, a great effort was done for it. 

There are two records in your discography, the EP "Adultery of Soul" that you released yourself and a long-playing album released in June 2017 called "Regeneration" by Satanath record label. It is a Russian label, how did you get to them? Did they contact you or have you been an initiative on your side? 

I keep in touch with Aleksey Korolyov, he’s the boss of Satanath Records, we start to talk and I send to him our EP “Adultery Of Soul” , I think this was the first step to release our album under his label, because he liked our music, so when I told him we were recording a full album with new songs, he was very determined and interested in releasing our first full length. So, we signed with Satanath Records and through him we’ve arrived to other two labels, More Hate Productions from Russia and Final Gate Records from Germany. The album was co-release it by those three labels. Aleksey release only music he really likes, he did an amazing job, very professional. Satanath it’s a great label, we like the way they promoted our album. They have a good distribution in other countries, taking care of all the work of promotion, that’s very important actually. We are very happy for this achievement. 



Were you recording the last album named „Regeneration“ ? Who is responsible for the sound, mastering and production? Can you get us through this album and tell us a little bit about the concept? 

We recorded here in Ciudad del Este, the recording process took four months, very fast, it was among december of 2016 and March of 2017. 

Regeneration was mixed and mastering by Alberto Santacruz at Abato Records. The production was in our charge because we knew very well what type of sound we wanted, we follow these direction we were looking for. 

The great cover art was created by Marcos Miller, a renowned Brazilian artist, he has done an amazing cover, which was inspired by the lyrics of the song "Regeneration". 

The concept behind Regeneration revolves about the creation of a new specie, genetically superior, strongest than humans, a sci-fi theme. 




For those who have not read your lyrics, can you mention the themes that you deal with? What inspires you to write and what role does literature? 

The lyrical part of our songs cover several themes, I wrote all the lyrics on ‘‘Regeneration‘‘ , they are a very important piece inside the song structure, I think all of my lyrics are mostly dark and pessimist. 

Most of them are inspired by my personal point of view, others by some books that i have read, for example the song ‘‘The Plague Of Insomnia‘‘ was inspired by a passage from the book "100 Años De Soledad“ (One Hundred Years Of Solitude)" by Gabriel García Márquez. Speaks about a fictious and dark event ocurred in a village. 

“Old Man's Memories“ about past dictatorship in Paraguay, from the vision of a torturer and murderer, “Place Of Death“ horrors of dying in war, “Spirit In Solitude“ depression and suicide, “Beyond the Garden of Creation“ opposition to christian theory about origin of life. 

“Without Any God“ and “Inside of me“ about agnosticism and religious criticism. 


Ciudad del Este lies on a triangle of Paraguay, Brazil a Argentina, what about problems as government, religion, drugs, guns, is it all of it influencing Paraguay metal scene a lot or it‘s been better in nowadays? Did you particularly have there some personal experiences or as a band? 

All those problems are always up to this days, i live in a very violent city, there’s a lot of insecurity everywhere. I think this situation will never change, honestly those social/political issues doesn‘t matter at all to me, people are so contaminated by corruption, there‘s too much poverty and social inequality. It would be the ideal place to write lyrics for a punk or hardcore band, but it’s not our case, our lyrics does not cover so much those themes, but I‘m not sure about lyrics of other death metal bands from my country. Here in South America we have so many violence and corruption, that’s the sad reality, but the whole world is immersed in a wave of violence without boundaries, even in Europe or USA there are many terrorist attacks nowadays, the best you can do is live your life, enjoy it to the max because life‘s too short to waste your time trying to change the world. 



How do you see the evolution of death metal scene in Paraguay over the years? Do you keep contact with some other Paraguayan bands? Is some another „new blood“on the Paraguayan death metal scene which you like recommend to us? 

Most of the bands are concentrated in the capital Asunción and surrounding cities, so the biggest shows and festivals are there, we are from Ciudad Del Este, the second most important city after Asunción. 

We have many death metal bands in Paraguay, but It’s difficult to keep a band active, the main problem is money and the lack of support, when a band begin to grow, they definitely need a good economic support to record an album, and here comes the problems, there‘s no hope for financial return if you play death metal, much money invested and no return, most of the bands breaks for this reason or they stop with their activities after some years. 

Stricktly speaking about death metal, the bands that I like in Paraguay are: Funeral, The Suffer, Motorized, Ablaze, Vehement, Abomination, Sadistic Art, Repulsive Exhume, all those bands are older than us. 


How often do you meet in the rehearsal room? Who is the main composer and how is the creative process of composing new material? Do you share ideas over the internet or do you sit down together in a "garage" where you think of everything? 

We mainly write new songs in our rehearsals, for “Regeneration” most of the songs were written by me, eventually when we meet to rehearse, if I have some riffs, I show to the other members, I try to explain the song structure, tones and ideas that I have in mind, the other guys also have an important role, they bring their suggestions, influences and playing style. 

There are opportunities for everyone in the band, Alberto and Christian also help writing good songs, they are very talented, and now with Denis the possibilites to write new ideas are greater. 

How involved are you into the music scene? Are you buying stuff from other bands? trading? contacting many zine editors, label, distros? What about some clubs and specialized metal shops there? 

I was never too active in the scene, I mean out of Verthebral, because does really take up a lot of my time and obviously is my priority, it’s more than a hobby, but I have contact with a lot of bands and people who are mostly involved on the Paraguayan escene, I buy CDs when we are playing at some gig with other bands and they are selling their stuff, the most important way to support the underground it’s buying physical materials, paying their tickets and going to see local bands, trades are cool when you have available a lot of copies from your album, but if you have a few copies it’s not a great business, because seems like the hard work that your band had recording and releasing professionally doesn’t have valour or importance, if I like some band I buy their album, because I really want to support their work. 


Can you tell me what to expect from Verthebral in the Future? Some plans and visions? When are you coming to play to Europe? How difficult is it for you to get to the European tour? 

We want to write a new album for next year, we are very excited about future compositions, to create best and brutal songs. For the next album the challenges will be greater, we need to keep evolving, we want to reach more people with our music. 

I think the closest thing for us would be to plan a South American tour or something like that, play some gigs through neighboring countries, about an European tour, we would need a big economic support, a good tour manager working with us, a tour must be very well planned to carry it out. We want to go slowly with this matter, maybe in the near future there will be more chances for it.

‘The Age Of Dead Christ' is Necrodeath's 11th album, 33 years after their inception into the scene, when the now legendary demo tape ‘The Shining Pentagram’ was released. 33 as the age of Christ, the dead Christ, as the title of the album says. Necrodeath go back to their roots releasing one of the fastest, most violent and brutal chapters in their deadly musical path. The cover resembles the typical artwork of the Eighties demo tapes and features the band's old logo.

‘The Age Of Dead Christ’ includes the song ‘The Return Of The Undead’, a new version of the band’s classic ‘The Undead’ (originally included in the 1987 debut album ‘Into The Macabre’), featuring yet another extreme metal legend on vocals, the mighty A.C. Wild of Bulldozer.

Každý fanoušek se rád nechává unášet na vlnách hudby, která ho pohltí, vcucne a přesvědčí na svoji stranu. S novinkou švédských TRIBULATION jsme si sedli hned od prvních tónů. Najednou jsem se připadal, že mě někdo hodil do studené řeky někde na severu Evropy. Chladně jiskřivé melodie se střídaly s těmi dunivějšími a ostřejšími. 

Jsem stržen vírem, topím se v hlubinách. Hudba mě unáší dál, jsem jako kymácející se loďka na peřejích. Progresivní kousky death metalu, blacku, ale i rocku mě postupně přesvědčují, pronikají mi do krve. Už dávno jsem umrlcem, kusem těla, se kterým si hudba dělá co chce. Stylově se cítím, jako v objetí s MORBUS CHRON, IN SOLITUDE, VAMPIRE, HORRENDOUS, ale i třeba WATAIN, DISSECTION, Občas mě zasáhnou i záchvěvy MERCYFUL FATE, případně SISTERS OF MERCY. Je mi zima a světlo už asi nikdy neuvidím.


"Down Below" je přesně tím druhem hudby, které mě rozložilo na atomy, stali jsme se jedním tělem, zkaženou duší. Těžko je podobná díla popisovat slovy. Nejvíc se mi asi líbí nekonečné množství emocí, které ke mě proudí jako věčná energie. Smutek, síla, smrt, touha a vášeň, tohle všechno zde cítím. Album se tak pro mě stává osobním prožitkem, niternou záležitostí. Něčím, co doporučím podobně naladěným kolegům. TRIBULATION složili desku, o které se nemá psát, ale mají se s ní trávit dlouhé hodiny v temném pokoji. Utíkám nočními ulicemi, kráčím jen ve stínu. Ztrácím se v myšlenkách, jako v již zmíněné řece beznaděje. Prosévám mezi prsty svůj vlastní prach a přemýšlím o nekonečnu. Vynikající album, kterému se klaním až k zemi!

Every fan likes to drift on the waves of music that swallows him up, suck him and convinces on his side. With novelty from Swedish TRIBULATION, we sat right from the first tones. Suddenly I thought someone was throwing me into a cold river somewhere in northern Europe. Coldly sparkling melodies alternated with those duller and sharper. The album becomes a personal experience for me, a matter of inner concern. Something I recommend similarly tuned colleagues. TRIBULATION produced a record that should not be written about but we should spend long hours in a dark room with this album. I run through the night streets, walking only in the shadows. I lose my thoughts, as in the already mentioned river of hopelessness. I sift through my fingers my own dust and think about infinity. Excellent album that I worship to the ground!

O takové bolesti jsem měl jen mlhavou představu. Ano, čítával jsem paměti morbidních vrahů, ale vlastní prožitek bývá jiný. Zavěšený na hácích, jako porcované zvíře. Stahován z kůže, pálen rozžhaveným železem. Mohou mě mučit, ponižovat, ale já zůstanu pevný ve svých názorech. 

Novinka španělských bastardů TERATOMA vás přenese na death grindová jatka, kde se na nějaké přemýšlení příliš nehraje. Hlavní je tlak, energie, špína a zohavená těla. Jedná se přesně o ten výmaz mozku, který jednou za čas všichni potřebujeme. Jeden hudební masakr střídá druhý. Nekompromisně, ostře, drtivě. Tak na nás Španělé útočí.



"In The Inside Reborn The Flesh" jsem si rval do hlavy s opravdovou chutí obzvlášť ve chvílích, kdy jsem byl znechucen z dnešního světa. Cítím z TERATOMA inspiraci CARCASS, NAPALM DEATH, EXHUMED, IMMOLATION, BOLT THROWER, INCANTATION. Vše sedí na svých místech, v jasně daných krvavých pozicích. Kapela sice nepřináší nic nového na pitevnu, ale jejich tvorba vás jednoduše přibije na zeď. O nic jiného nám všem nakonec stejně nejde. Španělé masakrují přesně tím způsobem, že se budete muset zapřít, abyste všechnu tu energii ustáli. Připomínají rozjetý vlak, uvolněnou lavinu, tsunami plné špíny a beznaděje. Death grindová nahrávka, která vás stáhne z kůže! Masakr!

A few questions - interview with death/grind metal band from Spain - TERATOMA.

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play , etc.? 

- Hi to you and all readers, thanks for the interview and interest in our band. Well, Teratoma was formed twenty-five years ago in 1993, and after editing an official demo in 96 and the full-length "The terato- genus reborn" the band split in 2002, after a long dream. We met again about three years ago, Teratoma have always been practising death metal with grindcore and brutal death metal riffs. We continue and we will continue playing this style ......


Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

- The recording of this work was made in Sonic Riot studios in Barcelona; it‘s an excellent place (not only for extreme metal), professional and great deal. Paco Delgado, his owner, was in charge of the recording and mastering, the production is done by the band with him. We are satisfied and we think it’s been a great job.



How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

- Well, our agreement with Immortal Souls Productions (ISP) is that a print run of 500 physical CD copies would be released, there is always time to launch new releases. Initially, it will be released only in CD and digital format, but now ISP is already working on a limited edition in tapes, and the edition in vinyl format is under study for future release.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with? 

- All lyrics are written and designed by our singer, Titopsy. Since the beginning he has always been responsible for them. The topics are quite diverse. They can be influenced by old horror films, or take the most extreme side of the misery of humanity and deal about it from our point of view.


Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important? 

- The logo was created by our old guitarist and founding member José David, (who, in this second life of Teratoma, did not join). A year ago we redesigned it slightly, our singer Titopsy took charge of it. Usually, our guitar Juanjo takes care of social networks, nowadays networks are very important, you can not say that you exist if you are not in them, it‘s sad but true, it’s also a very quick way to make yourself known.

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

- Our work has been edited by the label Immortal Souls Productions, who already knew the band from the first time and quickly became interested in the new material of Teratoma to edit it. It took us a while to decide but we did it due to the good vibrations that Juro, his owner, transmitted to us, We are happy, this has just begun, let's see how it goes...



Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

- Easy question, but we would not have enough space to talk about all the bands that have influenced us in our music and life in general. Of course, the great old school bands of the late 80s and 90s. We believe that the influences that can be noticed more in our music would be bands like Bolt thrower, Incantation, Immolation, etc. A part from that each member of the band has his own preferences, but, basically, as we have already said, the death metal of the 80/90s.

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

- I really did not have the time to send it to many labels; Immortal souls prod. was one of the first we contacted with. The majority os responses that were sent were positive. But we must bear in mind that the ep was finished been recorded in September and all the labels had closed editions for the year. Even having these problems with the dates, we received some more offers from other labels, but we made up our minds with ISP for the great involvement of Juro.


How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best? 

- Since our return we have been able to perform specially in extreme music festivals in Spain and some other small clubs. Any of the two options attracts us; they all have negative and positive things. Unfortunately, we find it very difficult to do a great gig, as our work and family lives limit us.

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

- As we can not stop we are already working on new songs to be able to edit our second album and also preparing the next performances to celebrate the 25 years. What to achieve with the band? Just keep going well by playing on.

Když jsem byl mladý kluk, mé srdce bylo ukováno z jemných heavy metalových slitin. Zestárl jsem a britské SAXON poslouchám stále dál. Jsou mojí krevní skupinou, hudbou navždy zarytou pod kůží, jsou mými průvodci celým životem. Proto dnes berte má slova jako názor letitého fanouška.

Letos SAXON přicházejí se svým již 22 albem a je až neuvěřitelné, jak je deska v rámci stylu silná. Už od první skladby působí jako čerstvá rána, vyrytá ostřím poctivě nabroušeného skalpelu. Je dobré mít v dnešním zmateném světě nějaký pevný záchytný bod, někoho, na koho je spolehnutí. Přiznávám, pro mě jsou jimi právě SAXON.



"Thunderbolt" je deskou zahranou od srdce. SAXON, v čele s velmi charismatickým Biffem Byfordem, působí stále velmi noblesně, elegantně. Skladby se opravdu dobře poslouchají. Jsou energické, postupně gradují, pánové ale dokáží i zpomalit a donutit vás k zamyšlení. Zvukově skvěle ošetřené album (Andy Sneap) řeže, pálí, chladí a nenechá v klidu žádného opravdového fanouška. SAXON jsou uvěřitelní, ryzí a pilují svůj charakteristický styl k dokonalosti. Posouvají se jen lehce, v rámci heavy metalových zákonů. Už jen zajímavý obal od Paula Raymonda Gregoryho dává jasně na vědomí, co se bude na desce odehrávat. Obdivuji, že ani po těch dlouhých letech neztrácí hudba britských bardů feeling, rockovou sílu a energii. SAXON už asi nebudou jiní! Zaplať všichni svatí i nesvatí za to! Heavy metal nesmí zemřít! Pokud zde budou tito kovoví šlechtici, nemám o to obavy. Na závěr bych si vypůjčil název jedné skladby - "They Played Rock And Roll", která je poctou velikánovi Lemmymu. Charakterizuje i to, co já cítím z letošní nahrávky SAXON. Pravý nefalšovaný rock´n´roll a heavy metal. Myslím, že netřeba dodávat nic jiného. Britský kovový trůn má dalšího adepta na krále! Skvěle!

When I was a young boy, my heart was made out of fine heavy metal alloys. I grew older and I still listen to the British band SAXON. I really like their music, they will be always under my skin, they are my life guides. That is why today you should take my words as someone who is an old fan of this band. 

This year SAXON came with their 22nd album and it is almost unbelievable how strong the album is in case of style. The first song and all the others feels like a fresh wound, engraved with a sharp scalpel. It is good when you have some strong focus point in today´s confused world, someone you can rely on. I have to admit that SAXON are mine focus point. 


“Thunderbolt” is an album played by heart. SAXON, with very charismatic Biff Byford, feel very noble and elegant. Their songs are very easy to listen. They are energetic, graduate nicely. Those gentlemen can also slow down and make you think. The sound is brilliant (Andy Sneap). It cuts, burns, cools and leaves no real fan in rest. SAXON are believable, pure and they are working on their characteristic style to make it perfect. They are moving only slightly in the boundaries of heavy metal laws. The cover is so interesting, it was done by Paul Raymond Gregory and it gives you a clear idea of what is happening on the album. I admire that the music by those British bards does not lose the feeling, he rock power and energy, even after those long years. SAXON will probably never be different! Thank all saints and no saints for that! Heavy metal cannot die! If there are those metal nobles, I am not worried! Finally, I would like to borrow a title of one song – “They Played Rock and Roll” which is an honour to the great legend Lemmy. It characterized what I feel from this album by SAXON. The real rock´n´roll and heavy metal. I think there is nothing to add. British metal throne has another adept for the king! Great!

Ave UNDER THE CHUCRCH! Nedávno jste vydali dosud čerstvou novinku „Supernatural Punisment“. Jsem z ní doslova nadšen. Jaké na ní máte ohlasy, jak ji vnímají fanoušci a co hudební kritici? 

Děkujeme za tak milá slova. S albem jsme velmi spokojeni. Zatím máme od fanoušků i tisku kladné reakce na naše album, což se liší od našeho předchozího alba „Rabid Armagedon“ hlavně ve zvuku a vibracích, které jsou trošku punkovější. 


Jakým způsobem u UNDER THE CHUCRCH vnikají nové skladby? Jak probíhá samotný proces tvorby nového materiálu? Kdo je autorem hudby? 

Většinu materiálu píšu já, ale všichni členové se zapojují svými nápady a myšlenkami, takže bych řekl, že je to kolektivní práce. Normálně to funguje tak, že já klukům pošlu kolem 12 melodií, na kterých jsem pracoval a z těch 10 až 12 melodií se shodneme asi na 10, které chceme dokončit a dát na album. Já vymyslím základy písní, ale nakonec na jednotlivých písních pracujeme všichni společně. 


Skvělý je zvuk celé nahrávky. Je temný, studený a ostrý zároveň. V jakém studiu jste album nahrávali? Mluvili jste jako kapela do výsledného zvuku, masteringu? 

Děkujeme za pochvalu, jsme rádi, že se ti líbí. Já jsem chtěl, aby zvuk na této desce byl méně „HM2 přímo do xichtu“, ale aby byl zvuk čistší…méně kytar, ale nějak více punku, pokud to dává smysl. Nahrávali jsme v několika studiích, ale mix a mastering jsme dělali ve studiu v Reykjaviku, kde žiju. Já jsem album zmixoval se dvěma inženýry a také jsem dohlížel na celkový proces. 

Kdo je autorem textů a o čem pojednávají? Kde pro témata berete inspiraci? 

Texty většinou píšu já a náš zpěvák Erik Sahlström. Asi by se dalo říct, že naše texty následují celkovou estetiku death metalu…dobrý mix hororu a goru. 


Vždycky jste měli úžasné obaly svých desek. Zakládáte si hodně na tom, jak má album, cover vypadat? Kdo je autorem obalu novinky „Supernatural Punisment“? 

Ano, měli jsme štěstí, že jsme mohli pracovat s tak talentovanými umělci pro naše obálky alb jako…Cesar Valladares a Skaðvaldur pro nás pracovali už v minulosti, ale naše alba „Rabid Armagedon“ a „Supernatural Punishment“ má fantastické malby, které dělal Mattias Frisk. Mattias je genius a je radost s ním pracovat. 


Myslím, že „Supernatural Punisment“ by nejvíc slušelo vydání na vinylu. Neuvažujete o tom? Jaký je vlastně tvůj vztah ke gramodeskám, k jejich zvuku? Jsi sběratelem? 

Pulverised rec vydávají „Supernatural Punishment“ na vinylu. Album je dostupné v několika barvách na vinylu. Miluji vinyl a vyrůstal jsem na poslechu tohoto formátu víc, než na kazetách. Líbí se mi vinylový zvuk…mám spoustu nahrávek, ale pořád do své kolekce přidávám. 

Jak jsou na tom vlastně UNDER THE CHUCRCH s koncerty? Jestli se nepletu, tak ty Eriku žiješ na Islandu a Lars zůstal ve Švédsku. Musí to být logisticky poměrně náročné, ne? 

Ano i ne, občas je těžké najít datum, které vyhovuje všem, a všichni mají volno, ale samotné hraní pak už není problém. Já žiji na Islandu a zbytek kapely ve Švédsku. 


UNDER THE CHURCH je kapelou která vznikla na troskách pro mě osobně jedné z nejlepších švédských kapel NIRVANA 2002. Když jste novou smečku zakládali, měli jste hned od začátku jasno, že chcete zase hrát „old school švédský death metal“? Dnes už se smrtící kov dělá přeci jen trošku jinak, všude je brutální, technický kov. Nepřemýšleli jste třeba o změně stylu? 

Ne, chceme naopak zůstat v našem stylu, než předstírat, že jsme něco jiného, než opravdu jsme. Je to záležitost rozhodnutí hrát „old school death metal“, prostě hrajeme to, co hrajeme. 


Připomeň nám, co vlastně vedlo k rozpadu NIRVANA 2002 na začátku devadesátých let? Jak těžké pak bylo dát se zase dohromady po víc než dvaceti letech? 

No, nebylo to jako rozpad, spíš jsme prostě přestali hrát, haha! A když jsme dělali reunion koncerty, tak nám chvilku trvalo, než jsme si vzpomněli na melodie. 

Jste jako kapela (Lars a Erik) dnes již pamětníci. Změnilo se toho za ty dlouhé roky, co jste na scéně, hodně? Je moc odlišný přístup třeba pořadatelů, labelů, fanoušků? Do hry vstoupil internet, nové technologie, úplně jiný přístup fans k hudbě. 

Je to jiné, ale stejné…v poslední době je tolik kapel a všichni jsou na FB, YouTube, SoundCloud, Instagramu, atd, atd. Dnes je mnohem jednodušší nahrávat a propagovat svojí kapelu. V 90. letech to bylo složitější. Nemohu mluvit za ostatní, ale já tam neslyším dost odlišností, kapely dnes znějí stejně a nemají dostatečně zřetelný osobní zvuk a styl. Ale, já jsem starý mrzout. 


Jak je na tom vlastně švédská death metalová scéna v současnosti? Chodí lidé na koncerty? Kupují CD? Podporují kapely? Jaká je kupříkladu návštěvnost, když uspořádáte akci v klubu? 

Švédská scéna to dobře rozjíždí s obrovským množstvím skvělých kapel. Lidé pořád chodí na živou hudbu a kupují si alba, to je skvělé. Kluby, které pořádají koncerty, na kterých se hraje hudba, kterou hrajeme my, jsou většinou menší. Takže je tam většinou mezi 100-200 lidmi. 

Jsou nějaké desky, které tě v poslední době oslovily? 

Ano, nový USURPRESS „Interregnum“ je skvělé, také MASSGRAV „Stockholm Rockers“, MONOLORD vydávají super věci. 

Znáš, posloucháš nějaké kapely z České republiky? 

Ano, jednoho z nejlepších hudebníků vůbec…Jan Hammer. To, co udělal s Jeffem Beckem je prostě fantastické. Jan je také jeden z mých nejoblíbenějších bubeníků. 


Co chystají UNDER THE CHURCH v nejbližších měsících? Uvidíme vás také někdy u nás v Čechách? 

Děláme koncert na oslavu nového alba ve Stockholmu v květnu v klubu Café 44…v Čechách bychom rádi hráli také, zeptej se místních promotérů, ať si nás zamluví!
