Přemýšleli jste někdy, proč vlastně posloucháte metal a co vás na něm nejvíc baví? Osobně se musím přiznat, že je to energie, kterou z desek cítím. Takové to těžko popsatelné chvění, natlakované emoce, které lze jen velmi těžko popsat slovy. Je vcelku jedno, o jaký styl se jedná. Metal může být jednoduchý, klidně i primitivní, může být vznešený, progresivní. Hlavně ale musí pálit, řezat, urvat vám hlavu nebo rozsekat na malé kousky. Přesně tohle se mi stalo i s novinkou francouzských death metalistů CATALYST.

O kapela jsem vůbec nevěděl, do poštovní schránky mi přistálo promo CD a já jej jednoho nedělního rána vložil do svého přehrávače. Chvíli jsem jim dal čas a pak jejich hudbě naprosto propadl. Je totiž nebývale pestrá, propracovaná, inteligentní a zároveň si v sobě zachovala tolik potřebnou jiskru a drive.

CATALYST se pohybují někde mezi technickým death metalem, klasickým, thrashem, progresivním a smrtí. Není to vlastně důležité, inspirace třeba takovými NILE, DEATH, OPETH, OBSCURA a dalšími se sice nezapře, přesto se kapele povedlo vytvořit svůj vlastní výraz. Pod nánosem neskutečně heavy pasáží se ukrývají skvělé kytarové party. Je vyloženě radost desku poslouchat a to jak po zvukové stránce, tak hlavně to, co se na ní odehrává. Pánové mají velký talent, schopnost napsat dobrou, gradující skladbu, rozsekat nás a donutit k dalším poslechům. Jako bych surfoval na krvavě barevných vlnách, topil se ve studené vodě, vznášel se někde v meziprostoru, kde jsem jen já a hudba. Poslouchám spoustu muziky, prokousávám se mnoha CD a album "The Great Purpose of the Lords" mě doslova uhranulo. Francouzi si se mnou pohrávají jako šelma se svojí kořistí, drtí mé kosti a probodli mé srdce ledovým ostřím. Takový cit pro melodie jsem již dlouho neslyšel. Vynikající death metalová nahrávka, která vás spálí mrazem!

I didn't know about the band before, promo CD landed in my mailbox, and I put it into my player one Sunday morning. I gave them time for a while, and then their music completely caught me. It is unusually manifold, sophisticated, and intelligent and at the same time, it retains so much needed sparkle and drive.

CATALYST is somewhere between technical death metal, classical thrash, progressive, and death. It is not really important, their inspiration by the bands such as NILE, DEATH, OPETH, OBSCURA, and others is apparent; however, the band succeeded to create their own expression. Excellent guitar parts are hiding under incredibly heavy passages. It is absolutely a pleasure to listen to the record both in terms of sound and mainly in what is happening on it. Gentlemen have enormous talent, the ability to write a good, crescendo song, chop us up and compel us to listen to them again. As if I was surfing on blood-colored waves, drowning in cold water, hovering somewhere in the interspace where it was just music and me. I listen to a lot of music; I wade through a lot of CDs and the album "The Great Purpose of the Lords" literally bewitched me. The French musicians are playing with me like a beast with their prey, crushing my bones and piercing my heart with an ice blade. I have not heard such a sense for the melody for a long time. An excellent death metal record that will burn you with frost!
