A few questions - interview with death metal band from Chile - COFFIN CURSE.

A few questions - interview with death metal band from Chile - COFFIN CURSE.

Recenze/review - COFFIN CURSE - Ceased to Be (2020):
Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

Hi Jakub, COFFIN CURSE was formed in mid-2012 in Santiago, Chile. From the beginning we put into practice the simple task of only creating the most ruthless and hostile Death Metal possible. No clichés, no guidelines or rules, no bullshit. I think so far everything has worked as we wanted.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

We are very fortunate to work in our own personal vault, without the intervention of anyone outside the project. "Ceased to Be" was recorded, mixed and mastered by our drummer Carlos Fuentes, under our own standards of sound, arrangements and vibe in general. We manage our own timetable and vision about our compositions. The time saving that results as a two-piece gives you is totally rewarding and facilitates creativity.

How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

I am not sure of the exact figure, but I think it is around 1000 units, aborted by the mighty Memeto Mori in CD exclusively. Now we are in negotiations to edit on vinyl for a Portuguese label.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

I write the lyrics in their entirety. There is no specific system to create them, rather they come directly from the most twisted and insane corners of the mind. Generally speaking, these are about perversion, death, unease, misery, madness. In some previous review I read, they used the term “menacing”, which for me is an honor. We are not aligned with any kind of religion or or occultism wankering. The human mind is much more interesting and is loaded with tons of negative energy.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

The logo was created by an school friend in the early days of the project's inception. He conceived the cover art for our two first EPs too. Since 2016 we worked with different artists, depending on the idea we wanted. The graphic arts are very important, to close a trilogy with the lyrical and musical content. Despite dedicating myself professionally to advertising, I'm a caveman in the social network area, besides E-mail and a very simple fanpage, which it has worked well so far. Being perfectly honest a have a personal beef with “social networking” and this new era, but that’s just me.

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

We don’t idolize no one or nothing. But we need to inspire to write music. We are very in touch with the music we listen to in our early teen years, when no one used that bullshit term “old school ”. The majority of our rage and death comes from American bands of those years such as Morbid Angel, Immolation, Autopsy, Monstrosity or Death. Some European madness are there too, like Asphyx, Pestilence, Carcass, Abhorrence, etc.

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

I will not give names, but like I advanced above, we try to reach, dozens of labels with no response at all. That is the only thing I can say on the subject.

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

How many? Like 20 since 2013. Personally, I prefer to play in Clubs, regardless of its capacity, as long as there is assistance, it is the best place to play. Chile has a very sectarian scene, very disjointed, therefore there are not many events that you could call festivals. We've played in bigger gigs, or opening for some international band, and it's very cool, because of the better production and sound quality and more people (not involved with the underground) can see you. In the clubs or little venues you could see the true underground supporters. Tough question. I we have amps and a drumset available and some bangers around willing to listen, we’ll be gonna be there.

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

Our main plan is always to continue composing new material for future releases, our greatest pleasure is to produce albums while we can, since we are no longer youngsters full of energy. We would love to play outside the country. Perú, the US or Europe, dreaming is for free.

How and where can your fans contact you? Can you provide some contact information?

We still used our good old mail address, coffincurse.death@gmail.com, which we always check. You can also contact us through our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/coffincurse/

Thanx for the interview.

Thanx a lot, Jakub for your support and for giving a place to fit our insanity to spit unto this wretched and useless planet. CHEERS!
