Starý hrobnický almanach nám říká, jakým způsobem hnijí lidská těla. Jak dlouho, jakou mají barvu. Kdy se do nich dají červi a hnis. Kdy odpadnou první kusy masa. Smrt si s námi hraje jako s loutkami. Je nepředvídatelná, ale také spravedlivá. Tedy, jak kdy a jak u koho, ale rozhodně je jistotou. Jsou ale výjimky, které hnijí pomaleji. Získají černou šedou bravu a nemohou přejít na druhou stranu. Nerozpadnou se a často se stává, že se znovu vrátí. Protože mají nevyřízené účty. Jejich motorem je pomsta a nenávist. Nevěříte? Tak si zkuste poslechnout novou desku amerických tmářů AUTOPHAGY a věřit mi budete.
Jedná se totiž o prvotinu, která mě zasáhla hluboko do vnitřností. Měl jsem již při prvním setkání pocit, že mě někdo bodl rezavým nožem přímo do břicha. Smrt byla zase jednou velmi blízko a pro mě to je jasný důkaz, že tenhle death metal jen tak z hlavy nevyženu. Je totiž surový, drsný, maniakální, temný a ostrý zároveň. Jako starý hrob.
Na "Bacteriophage" naleznete spoustu absolutně zničujících pasáží, ale sází se hodně i na atmosféru. Takhle to mám rád. Nahrávka je pestrá, v mnoha odstínech krvavě černé barvy. Je z ní cítit hniloba a pach rozkládajících se těl. Doomové chvilky morbidní poezie vás přenesou právě do studených márnic, mezi mrtvé i ještě trošku živé. Pokud pečlivěji prozkoumáte zvuk, obal i celkovou produkci, zjistíte, že deska nemá chybu. Připadám si jako v devadesátých letech, kdy jsem se k tomuto stylu teprve pomalu dostával. Songy jsou úderné, cílí přesně, proti jejich provedení, ani nápadům nemám žádných námitek. Naopak, zadřely se mi pod kůži a pamatuji si je. To je pro mě také důkazem, že AUTOPHAGY nedělají svoji hrobnickou práci nadarmo. Schválně, zkuste si je pustit v sychravém dni, když máte náladu pod psa a venku prší. Uvidíte, že tahle smečka má v sobě velké množství poctivých nápadů, které vás dokáží rozsekat na malé kousky. Osobně se mi nejvíc líbí schopnost vytvořit mlhavě syrové a chladné nálady. Jako bych sledoval zrychlený proces rozpadu lidských tkání. Za kapelou stojí zkušení muzikanti a je to hodně znát. Vše má jasný řád a zároveň i černou jiskru, drive, energii. "Bacteriophage" je jasným důkazem toho, že se rozpadáme zaživa. Prohnilý, mokvající death metalový močál!

The old Gravediggers' Almanac tells us how human bodies rot. How long, what color. When they get worms and pus in them. When the first pieces of flesh fall off. Death plays us like puppets. It's unpredictable, but it's also fair. I mean, it's a matter of when and who, but it's definitely a certainty. But there are exceptions that rot more slowly. They get the black gray color and can't cross over to the other side. They don't break up and often come back again. Because they have unfinished business. Revenge and hatred is their driving force. You don't believe me? Then try listening to the new album by American darkies AUTOPHAGY and you'll believe me.
This is a debut album that hit me deep in the gut. The first time I met them, I had the feeling that someone had stabbed me with a rusty knife right in my stomach. Death was once again very close and for me it is a clear proof that I will not get this death metal out of my head. It is raw, harsh, manic, dark and sharp at the same time. Like an old grave.
There are a lot of absolutely devastating passages on "Bacteriophage", but there is also a lot of reliance on atmosphere. That's how I like it. The record is colourful, in many shades of bloody black. It reeks of rot and the smell of decomposing bodies. The doomy moments of morbid poetry transport you right into the cold morgues, among the dead and the still slightly alive. If you examine the sound, the cover art and the overall production more carefully, you will find that the record is without fault. I feel like I was in the 90's when I was just slowly getting into this style. The songs are punchy, they aim precisely, and I have no complaints about their execution or ideas. On the contrary, they got under my skin and I remember them. This also proves to me that AUTOPHAGES don't do their grave digging work in vain. By all means, try putting them on on a drizzly day when you're in a foul mood and it's raining outside. You'll see that this band has a lot of honest ideas that can chop you into little pieces. Personally, I like the ability to create a vaguely raw and chill mood the best. It's like watching the accelerated process of human tissue decay. There are experienced musicians behind the band and it shows. Everything has a clear order and at the same time a black spark, drive, energy. "Bacteriophage" is a clear proof that we are disintegrating alive. A rotten, swamping death metal swamp!
