Někde mezi děsivým snem a bděním, někdy v momentech, kdy jsem přešel na druhou stranu, jsem si pouštěl tohle album stále dokola. Stalo se na nějaký čas mojí součástí a kolovalo mi v žilách přirozeně. Byl jsem prokletý, stržený do hlubiny, abych spálený znovu vstal z popela. Silnější než dřív. V téhle nahrávce je totiž spousta energie, temné síly, zajímavých momentů, naprosté oddanosti stínům a také hráčského umění, na které se v dnešní době trošku zapomíná.
Jako první, co mě napadlo, když jsem si pustil debutové album slovenských tmářů GOHOLOR, tak byla neodbytná myšlenka, že je nahrávka velmi dobře napsaná. Skladby v sobě mají drive, takovou tu těžko definovatelnou atmosféru, kterou máme my, staří psi tolik rádi. Přiznám se bez mučení, příliš jsem toho o kapele nevěděl. Přesto se i první setkání pro mě stalo soukromým obřadem pro vyvolávání temných sil. Stal jsem se prokletým a vstoupil na druhou stranu.
V podsvětí se šeptá, že dnes umějí muzikanti hrát o hodně lépe než dřív, ale málokdo dokáže napsat dobré skladby. GOHOLOR tohle umí na výbornou. Novinka je syrová, krvavá, svým způsobem brutální a nekompromisní, přesto si zachovává chlad a nahrubo nasekanou tmu, které z melodií odkapávají jako zkažená krev. Muzika byla vždy hlavně o emocích. U "Locus Damnatorum" jsem nikdy nevydržel sedět v klidu. Nebyl jsem najednou ve svém pokoji, ale procházel jsem se po starých pohřebištích, mezi prokletými náhrobky, ve znesvěcených kostelích. Sledoval jsem slepé ovce, věřící, kteří pochodují na smrt, s pohledy sklopenými k zemi, s hlavou plnou lží a přetvářky. Melodie jsou zde jako smršť, jako tsunami, jako příchod jezdců apokalypsy na zem. Prokletí sice nikdy nedostanou rozhřešení, ale mohou si stejně jako já užít masivní, dobře čitelný a řezající zvuk, podívat se na stylový motiv na obalu, který mě inspiroval k úvodu dnešního článku. Jako bych byl pokaždé, když zapnu play na svém přehrávači, zahalen do krvavé mlhy, jako bych se ztratil mezi děsivými stíny. Je to hodně naléhavé, uvěřitelné, ryzí, opravdové a naprosto autentické album. Slováci samozřejmě čerpali inspiraci ze starých archívů, ale také přidali spoustu svých nápadů, zajímavých momentů a invence. Navíc, a na to se dnes často zapomíná, se album velmi dobře poslouchá a rád se k němu vracím. Pokud bych měl nakonec přidat svůj vlastní názor, tak musím potvrdit, že jsem si novinku zařadil i do své soukromé diskografie. Pro mě osobně je tahle deska velkým překvapením a zanechala ve mě hlubokou krvavou stopu. A pokaždé jsem prokletý, stržený do hlubiny, abych spálený znovu vstal z popela. Silnější než dřív. Syrový, nekonečně temný a chladná black death metal, který smrdí sírou! Brána do podsvětí byla otevřena, stačí jen vstoupit!

Somewhere between a terrifying dream and wakefulness, sometimes in those moments when I crossed over to the other side, I played this album over and over again. For a while, it became a part of me and flowed naturally through my veins. I was cursed, cast into the depths, only to rise again from the ashes, scorched. Stronger than before. This recording is packed with energy, dark power, intriguing moments, utter devotion to the shadows, and a level of musical artistry that’s somewhat forgotten these days.
The first thing that came to mind when I played the debut album by the Slovak dark metal band GOHOLOR was the persistent thought that the record was very well written. The songs have drive that hard to define atmosphere that we old-timers love so much. I’ll admit without hesitation that I didn’t know much about the band. Yet even that first encounter became a private ritual for me to summon dark forces. I became cursed and stepped over to the other side.
Rumor has it in the underworld that musicians today can play much better than they used to, but few can write good songs. GOHOLOR excels at this. The new album is raw, bloody, brutal in its own way, and uncompromising, yet it retains a coldness and a roughly chopped-up darkness that drip from the melodies like rotten blood. Music has always been mainly about emotions. With “Locus Damnatorum”, I could never sit still. Suddenly, I wasn’t in my room anymore, but wandering through ancient cemeteries, among cursed tombstones, in desecrated churches. I watched the blind sheep the faithful marching toward their deaths with their eyes cast down to the ground, their heads full of lies and hypocrisy. The melodies here are like a whirlwind, like a tsunami, like the arrival of the horsemen of the Apocalypse on earth. Though the damned will never receive absolution, they can just like me enjoy the massive, clear, and cutting sound, and take a look at the stylish cover art that inspired the introduction to today’s article. It’s as if every time I press play on my player, I’m shrouded in a bloody fog, as if I’ve lost myself among terrifying shadows. It’s a very urgent, believable, pure, genuine, and utterly authentic album. The Slovaks, of course, drew inspiration from old archives, but they also added plenty of their own ideas, interesting moments, and creativity. What’s more and this is often forgotten today the album is a pleasure to listen to, and I love coming back to it. If I were to add my own opinion, I have to confirm that I’ve added this new release to my personal discography. For me personally, this album is a huge surprise and has left a deep, bloody mark on me. And every time, I am cursed, cast into the depths, only to rise again from the ashes, scorched. Stronger than before. Raw, infinitely dark, and cold black death metal that reeks of sulfur! The gate to the underworld has been opened all you have to do is step through!
