DEFENESTRATION - Rotting Antefix
EP 2026, Iron Fortress Records

Zněli zle a bolestivě.

Pálily mě vnitřnosti, moje tělo napadla pradávná sněť a začalo u mě docházet k prvním příznakům rozkladu. Pánové hrají temný, chladný a ostrý death metal ze staré školy. A dělají to velmi opravdově, ryze, uvěřitelně a naprosto autenticky.

Neznám nic poetičtějšího, než exhumaci starého hrobu. To napětí, ten moment překvapení, co najdete v rakvi, tomu se skoro nic jiného nevyrovná. Na stejnou úroveň ale můžeme dát i poslech tohoto mokvajícího, ostře řezajícího, temného a chladného EP "Rotting Antefix". Kanaďané dodržují staré, mnoha lety ověřené postupy. A dělají to s elegancí starých mistrů v oboru. Mnohokrát jsem psal, že mě, starému veteránovi podzemí, dělají nejlépe právě podobné nahrávky. Musí být zahrané od srdce. Musí mít povedený, prašivý zvuk, musí řezat do živého. DEFENESTRATION tohle všechno umí a přidali ještě něco navíc. Mají v sobě drive a pověstnou sílu, nasbíranou na starých prokletých pohřebištích. Jasně, je to old school death metal té nejhrubší odrůdy. Chladné a temné ozvěny z toho nejhlubšího podzemí!

Asphyx says:

I woke up in the middle of the night after a terrifying nightmare. I had to go I don’t even know why. Something intangible, some kind of entity from the darkness, was forcing me to get up and set out on my journey. I grabbed a shovel, and as I closed the rusty gate of a long-abandoned cemetery behind me, I knew I was in the right place. I walked as if in a dream, listening to the whispers of the undead. They sounded evil and painful. The ground was frozen, yet I began to dig. Deep, very deep, I found an old, mangy coffin. I opened it, and inside lay a cursed monk, holding in his hand the new EP by the Canadian doom metal band DEFENESTRATION

This is my first encounter with this pack, and I must say right away that I was immediately enveloped in a bloody fog. My insides were burning; an ancient rot had taken hold of my body, and I began to experience the first signs of decay. These guys play dark, cold, and sharp old-school death metal. And they do it with great sincerity, purity, believability, and absolute authenticity.

I know of nothing more poetic than the exhumation of an old grave. That tension, that moment of surprise at what you’ll find in the coffin almost nothing else can compare to it. But we can place listening to this oozing, razor-sharp, dark, and cold EP, "Rotting Antefix", on the same level. The Canadians stick to old, time-tested methods. And they do so with the elegance of the old masters of the genre. I’ve written many times that, as an old underground veteran, it’s precisely these kinds of recordings that speak to me the most. They have to be played from the heart. They have to have a raw, gritty sound; they have to cut right to the bone. DEFENESTRATION does all of this and then some. They possess a drive and that legendary power, gathered from ancient, cursed burial grounds. Sure, it’s old-school death metal of the roughest variety. Nothing new in the afterlife, but these are songs that have gradually seeped into my head and my subconscious. Imagine waking up one morning and realizing nothing will ever be the same again. The strange world into which you were born a world long doomed to extinction has burned to the ground. Hordes of hateful zombies roam the streets, craving fresh blood and brains. The undead have come to exact their revenge. Can you feel that apocalyptic atmosphere? That’s exactly what this EP sounds like. It’s packed to the brim with raw melodies, sharp riffs, killer drums, and animalistic vocals. Tell me, what more could an old dog who’s been guarding the entrance to the underworld for several decades ask for? Maybe just to see this pack perform at some basement gig. The ground was frozen, yet I began to dig. Deep, very deep, I found an old, mangy coffin. I opened it, and inside lay a cursed monk holding the new EP by the Canadian death metal band DEFENESTRATION. I think no, I know that I’m in the right place here, and I can only recommend this band and their work to you. Rusty death metal that makes coffins crack! Cold and dark echoes from the deepest underground!

A few questions - interview with death metal band from Canada - DEFENESTRATION.

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

The band was founded in 2022. Me (Ben) and the other guitar Jesse met at a music festival and came up with the idea to try and start a death metal band. After a few months of writing we got together with Steve and Adrian and started putting together the demo.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

We recorded the new album with Ryan Nash at his home studio in Winnipeg, MB. The record was produced by the band, engineered and mastered by Ryan Nash, and mastered by Andrew Oswald.

How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

It was released on Vinyl, Casette and CD. Vinyl limited to 200 copies.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

I (Ben) wrote all the lyrics. The lyrics are about death, mysticism, and ancient times.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

Hidris created the band logo. Iron Fortress took care of the layout and and the website. We’re on instagram @deathbydefenstration. Social media is important for promoting shows and our album but that’s about it.

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

Iron Fortress released this record for us. They did an awesome job with everything, we couldn’t be more happy with how it turned out.

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

Some old school bands we take inspiration from are bands like Asphyx and Autopsy. Also contemporary bands like Necrot.

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

Just to Iron Fortress

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

We have played quite a bit Over the last few years. Mainly smaller club gigs. We played Manitoba metal fest last year which was a big achievement for us.
