Recenze/review - NITHE - Funeral Death (2025)

NITHE - Funeral Death
EP 2025, Caligari Records

for english please scroll down

Umrlci tančí v divokých rytmech. Probuzeni uprostřed noci jsme sestoupili dolů, do katakomb, ve kterých byli kdysi pohřbeni padlí kněží. Do stěn je otištěna bolest a plameny zase hoří jasným plamenem.

Pokud patříte ke generaci maniaků, kteří si kopírovali kazety, kteří hltali fanouškovské, ručně tištěné ziny a psávali jste rukou dopisy na papír svým oblíbeným kapelám, potom jste zde správně. NITHE jakoby exhumovali ducha starých dobrých časů. A činí tak velmi uvěřitelně, opravdově, s morbidní elegancí. Líbí se vám třeba takoví NIFELHEIM, AURA NOIR, PROTECTOR, SODOM, HADEZ, VOMITOR, NECROVORE a další smečky s krvavou jiskrou v oku? Temný a chladný black thrash death metal s příměsí zkažené krve!

Asphyx says:

The dead dance to wild rhythms. Awakened in the middle of the night, we descended down into the catacombs where the fallen priests were once buried. Pain is imprinted on the walls and the flames burn bright again. We're right here, my own demon nods his head in agreement, waking me up and telling me it's time. For a true, festering and bloody ritual from the old days, held in honor of the Devil himself. Hooded figures recite arcane formulas, the atmosphere is imbued with fear and tension. The first riff is played. Sharp as a razor, like a knife about to be plunged into the victim's heart.

I like the old order in metal, I like music that has its roots in the 1990s. I'm a bone collector, a guardian of the underground, I'm a listener of exactly such records as this year's EP by Norwegian black thrash death metallers NITHE. If you're the same way, crack open a beer, some dusty coffin and listen closely. This one sounds like echoes from hell itself!

If you're part of the generation of tape-copying geeks who devoured fan-made, hand-printed zines and hand-wrote letters on paper to your favorite bands, then you've come to the right place. NITHE seem to have exhumed the spirit of the good old days. And they do so in a very believable, genuine way, with a morbid elegance. Do you like the likes of NIFELHEIM, AURA NOIR, PROTECTOR, SODOM, HADEZ, VOMITOR, NECROVORE and other packs with a bloody sparkle in their eye? Then I suggest you, like me, lock yourself in your dungeon for a while, turn up the volume gradually and enjoy this cold and dark ritual. "Funeral Death" is for those who still appreciate burials in the cold earth rather than an impersonal departure to the other side of the glow. Blasphemy, horror moods meet misanthropy here. The Norwegians have come from the deepest underground, and I daresay we shall hear from them again. Personally, I'd like a new full-length album as soon as possible, because four tracks is simply not enough for me. There's a dead smell everywhere, the coffins are empty. You look for the undead and find them in the shadows, swaying to the beat. No wonder, it's played mostly for them, for demons, for fans of real, real death. I'm so glad I met this band on my underground wanderings. I'll be following them closely. If you're in the same boat as me (you probably will be, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this review), do so too. Because this year we got a good portion of raw meat. Dead men dancing to wild rhythms. Dark and cold black thrash death metal with a touch of bad blood!

A few questions - interview with black thrash death metal band from Norway - NITHE.

A few questions - interview with black thrash death metal band from Norway - NITHE.

Answered Stian Utheim Breiland (drums), thank you!

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

Hey man! Thank you so much for your support!!! Here are Stian’s (drummer) answers:

Hey hey! We are Nithe from Kristiansand located in southern Norway. We play a mix of Death, thrash and black METAL! Keeping it old and true to the masters of the 80s.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

The new Demo/EP was recorded here and there I guess. The drums were recorded in a basement in Lyngdal, surrounded by churches and all things horrid. And the GUITARS was recorded home where our Axeplayer lives in Kristiansand. And the bass and vocals recorded in Oslo, the total worst town in existence. Our Bass player Aksel was in charge of mixing and mastering since he's the only one in the band capable of doing that hehe!

How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

I have absolutely no idea haha! I'm just the drummer in the band. But its being released on cassette atlesst. I guess 50 or so copies first maybe.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

The lyrics are written by Henrik the singer and Aleks. I suppose they mainly is about old horror movies and the urge to dwell at a churchyard drinking beer and mocking the holy cross. And mixing it with some bizzare Lynch insanity i guess.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

The logo was drawn by Aleks and the coverart of our previous two releases was made by Aruagint. A total metal maniac!

The layout of our cassettes and all things graphic i suppose is a collaborate thing our bassist and guitarist do. I can only draw pinetrees and a very primitive Donald Duck. Concerning social networks, I personally hate networking. I just want to have a good time. But that being said our bassist currently lives in Oslo, where alot of the great bands are located. So thats maybe helping us some way. And our vocalist is the most charismatic man in the galaxy so he knows people too hehe.

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

We just got a message from Caligari records asking us if we wanted them to release the Funeral Death EP. And ofcourse that was very much okay with us. I see they also did release Dødskvad and Impugner stuff, two great bands from Norway. Also Hexenbret that is a fantastic band from somewhere obscure in Europe.

I am very pleased by the way things are going with Caligari Records. I am not being threatened I swear!

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

Metal is my total way of life. All else can fuck off! For the song writing maybe Autopsy, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Morbid Angel, Carnivore, Early Sepultura, Poison (from germany) and Darkthrone are very obvious inspirations. Our guitarplayer talks about Autopsy and Carnivore on a daily basis. And I have to mention more! Early Kreator and Destruction, Sabbat fron japan, Bathory, Sarcófago, Black Sabbath, and the list goes on and on.

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

No we did not as far as I know.

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

Oh well I think maybe we have played like 7-9 shows. Its hard to say what I'd prefer. I love playing shows, but I hate having to be social with strangers all the time. So my ideal show would be a 5 min walk from where I live. We could just go and play and then we could walk back home and listen to Iron Maiden again. Fuck the busses in Bergen! Our best performance was ofcourse our 4th rehearshal.

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

We are pretty terrible at planning stuff. So all I know for certain is that we will be listening to METAL and drinking beer while we do it. But ofcourse we will record more stuff and play some shows here and there.

How and where can your fans contact you? Can you provide some contact information?

You can contact us on mail and social media. But we are very bad at answering it turns out.

Thanx for the interview.
