Umíral si velmi dlouho. Nekonečná bolest. Sněť, která se v tobě rozlézala jako nějaká zlá popínavá rostlina. Bezesné noci, děsivé noční můry. Modlil ses, aby už byl konec. Mnohokrát si seděl se žiletkou v ruce a díval se do zrcadla na svůj ošklivý obraz. Tvář bez duše, stal si se nemrtvým, který čekal jen na poslední soud. Umřel si sám, v temném pokoji a když si přecházel na druhou stranu, tak ti k tomu hrála doom death metalová kapela NIGHT HAG z Virginie.
Je to teprve moje první setkání s touto smečkou a nové album mě zaujalo natolik, že jsem si prošel celou jejich diskografii. Jedná se přesně o odrůdu kruté smrti, kterou mám rád od přelomu osmdesátých a devadesátých let minulého století. O mokvající melodie, u kterých shnijete zaživa. Kývám se zase jednou spokojeně do rytmu. Držím v ruce lopatu a za chvilku si vykopu svůj vlastní hrob.
Nové album má masivní, chladný a nekonečně temný zvuk. Přikove vás na zeď a bude vás bolet takovým způsobem, že se za sebou budete chtít zavřít víko od rakve. Tohle je nahrávka, jejíž síla nejvíce vynikne ve starých katakombách, na prokletých pohřebištích, na opuštěných jatkách, všude tam, kde se stalo něco hnusného, mokvajícího. Melodie jsou zde ohlodány na kost a podávány na podnose spolu se shnilým masem. Líbí se mi, jakým způsobem jsou skladby napsány. Hoří zevnitř, i když jsou na povrchu pokryté mrazem a silnou vrstvou plísně a pavučin. Pokud máte rádi smečky jako AUTOPSY, ABSCESS, INCANTATION, DISMA a další tmáře, kteří dokáží být v hudbě nejen krutí a suroví, ale nezapomínají ani na podmanivě krvavou, mlhavou atmosféru, potom jste zde správně. NIGHT HAG hrají opravdově, ryze, uvěřitelně a naprosto autenticky. Jsou to pro mě naprosto zásadní věci, abych si kapelu pustil do svého přehrávače. A k "Great Dismal Darkness" se již teď rád a často vracím. Pokaždé, když mám chuť na nějakou hnilobu, na nahrubo nasekanou tmu a naprosté zlo, tak si rvu novinku pod tlakem do hlavy. Jedná se samozřejmě o ten nejhlubší underground, na nějakou tu špínu se zde nehledí. Smrt je při poslechu velmi blízko, stojí ve stínu a usmívá se. Má důvod, hraje se zde i pro ní. Nebude to dlouho trvat a přejdu také do země nekonečných stínů. Cítím to v kostech, nové album mi koluje v žilách, dostalo se mi pod kůži i do podvědomí. Platím převozníkovi a vstupuji na druhou stranu. Uléhám do své rakve a znovu zapínám play na svém přehrávači. Nechci, aby někdy tenhle krvavý obřad skončil. Klečím ve staré kobce a drásám si obličej do krve. Myslím si, že jsem zde správně. Takhle nějak by to mělo vypadat. Hnilobná doom death metalové album, které vás nakazí snětí! Exhumace prašivého hrobu ve značném stádiu rozkladu!

This is only my first encounter with this pack, and their new album intrigued me so much that I went through their entire discography. This is exactly the kind of brutal death metal I’ve loved since the turn of the 1980s and 1990s. It’s about oozing melodies that make you rot alive. Once again, I’m nodding contentedly to the beat. I’m holding a shovel in my hand, and in a moment I’ll dig my own grave.
The new album has a massive, cold, and infinitely dark sound. It’ll pin you against the wall and hurt you so badly that you’ll want to slam the coffin lid shut behind you. This is a recording whose power is best felt in ancient catacombs, cursed burial grounds, abandoned slaughterhouses anywhere where something vile and festering has taken place. The melodies here are stripped to the bone and served on a platter alongside rotten flesh. I love the way the songs are written. They burn from within, even though on the surface they’re covered in frost and a thick layer of mold and cobwebs. If you like bands like AUTOPSY, ABSCESS, INCANTATION, DISMA, and other dark forces who manage to be not only cruel and raw in their music but also don’t forget to create a captivatingly bloody, misty atmosphere, then you’ve come to the right place. NIGHT HAG play with sincerity, purity, believability, and absolute authenticity. For me, these are absolutely essential qualities for me to put a band on my player. And I already find myself happily and frequently returning to “Great Dismal Darkness”. Whenever I’m in the mood for some rot, for brutally chopped-up darkness, and utter evil, I force this new release into my head. This is, of course, the deepest underground no one here bats an eye at a little filth. Death feels very close while listening; it stands in the shadows and smiles. It has a reason they’re playing here for it, too. It won’t be long before I, too, cross over into the land of endless shadows. I can feel it in my bones; the new album is coursing through my veins, seeping under my skin and into my subconscious. I pay the ferryman and step over to the other side. I lie down in my coffin and press play on my player once more. I don’t want this bloody ritual to ever end. I kneel in an old dungeon and scratch my face until it bleeds. I think I’m in the right place. This is exactly how it’s supposed to be. A putrid doom death metal album that will infect you with decay! The exhumation of a mangy grave in an advanced state of decomposition!
