Když mi loni přišlo na recenzi album "Cult of Uzura", přiznám se, že jsem toho příliš nečekal. Nakonec se nahrávka stala mým velmi častým hostem v přehrávači. Usínal jsem s perfektně napsaným black death metalem. Vnímal jsem jednotlivé nuance, lehkou disonanci, užíval jsem si téma mého oblíbeného H.P. Lovercrafta. Když jsem potom nedávno někde četl, že kapela přichází s novinkou, měl jsem velkou radost. Jenže ona to úplně novinka není. Jedná se o přepsané a znovu nahrané skladby z "Bathyscaphe" (2020) a "Thooï" (2022).
Nakonec to ale vůbec nevadí. Pokud si totiž poslechnete původní verze a pak i ty nové a porovnáte je, tak si budete hudbu těchto tmářů užívat, jako by byla úplně nová. Alespoň tak vnímám novinku "The Descent" já, starý metalový pes, který hlídá vstup do podsvětí již skoro 35 let. Je pro mě velmi příjemné si jen tak sednout, zapnout play a nechat hudbu, aby mě doslova vtáhla do země příšer, naprosté tmy a zla, které číhá ve stínu.
Základem je zde pochmurná, naprosto černá a chladná atmosféra, která mí připomíná krvavou mlhu, kterou můžete někdy spatřit na hřbitovech. Jakoby mrtví žalovali, trápili se. Ze tmy vystupují ostré riffy, naléhavé melodie, drásavý vokál, surové údery bicích. To vše zabalené do masivního a dobře čitelného zvuku (Nerfaath - mixing, Thibault Chaumont - mastering, s mistrovským motivem na obalu, pod kterým je podepsán Paolo Girardi. Zkrátka a dobře, co se týká formálních věcí, jako je produkce a celkové provedení, je vše v naprostém pořádku a nic mi nebrání v tom, abych si užil hudbu samotnou. Jedná se o album, které chce rozhodně čas, nejlépe tmu, chlad a plné soustředění. Některé motivy a nuance totiž vylezou na povrch až po nějaké době. Když ale budete trpěliví a dáte téhle skvělé smečce šanci, budete odměněni opravdu silným zážitkem. Poslech potom pro vás bude spíše obřadem, než jen obyčejnou hudbou. "The Descent" je nahrávkou, která je plná silných momentů, zajímavých zvratů, je napsána s elegancí a zkušenostmi, s jasnými vizemi. Kdyby ještě žil H.P. Lovercraft, tak by stál ve stínu a souhlasně kýval hlavou. Vydáno je na vinylu, CD a digitálně. Myslím si, že tahle smečka by neměla chybět ve sbírce nikoho, kdo poslouchá kapely jako BELPHEGOR, MGLA, DEAD CONGREGATION, SHRINE OF DENIAL, IMMOLATION, THE GREAT OLD ONES, SEPULCHRAL CURSE, AKHLYS. Jedná se o velmi promyšlenou, dobře napsanou muziku, která se bude líbit všem nemrtvým, prokletým i démonům. Temný a chladný black death metal s podmanivě krvavou atmosférou! Zemřete v bažinách zapomnění!

When I received the album "Cult of Uzura" for review last year, I have to admit I didn’t expect much. In the end, the record became a frequent guest in my player. I’d fall asleep to perfectly crafted black death metal. I’d pick up on the subtle nuances, the slight dissonance, and I’d enjoy the themes inspired by my favorite author, H.P. Lovecraft. So when I recently read somewhere that the band was releasing a new album, I was thrilled. But it’s not exactly a brand-new release. These are reworked and re-recorded tracks from "Bathyscaphe" (2020) and "Thooï" (2022).
In the end, though, it doesn’t matter at all. Because if you listen to the original versions and then the new ones and compare them, you’ll enjoy this band’s music as if it were brand new. At least that’s how I, an old metal dog who’s been guarding the entrance to the underworld for nearly 35 years, perceive the new release “The Descent”. It’s very pleasant for me to just sit down, hit play, and let the music literally pull me into a land of monsters, utter darkness, and the evil lurking in the shadows.
The foundation here is a gloomy, utterly dark, and cold atmosphere that reminds me of the blood-red mist you sometimes see in cemeteries. It’s as if the dead are lamenting, tormented. Emerging from the darkness are sharp riffs, urgent melodies, harrowing vocals, and raw drum beats. All of this is wrapped in a massive and clear sound (Nerfaath - mixing, Thibault Chaumont - mastering, with a masterful cover art signed by Paolo Girardi). In short, as far as formal aspects like production and overall execution go, everything is in perfect order, and nothing stands in my way of enjoying the music itself. This is an album that definitely demands time preferably darkness, cold, and full concentration. Some motifs and nuances only come to the surface after a while. But if you’re patient and give this great band a chance, you’ll be rewarded with a truly powerful experience. Listening to this will feel more like a ritual than just ordinary music. "The Descent" is a recording full of powerful moments and intriguing twists, written with elegance and experience, and driven by a clear vision. If H.P. Lovecraft were still alive, he’d be standing in the shadows, nodding his head in approval. It is released on vinyl, CD, and digitally. I think this album should be a must-have in the collection of anyone who listens to bands like BELPHEGOR, MGLA, DEAD CONGREGATION, SHRINE OF DENIAL, IMMOLATION, THE GREAT OLD ONES, SEPULCHRAL CURSE, and AKHLYS. This is very well-thought-out, well-written music that will appeal to all the undead, the damned, and the demons. Dark and cold black death metal with a captivatingly bloody atmosphere! Die in the swamps of oblivion!
