Udělal jsem si soukromý čtenářský maraton. Mám tu nějaké knihy od léta, co jsem nestihl přečíst. Chystal jsem se na ně celý týden. Dokonce mám v telefonu poznámku, abych nezapomněl. Jenže pak jsem přišel domů a můj zrak padl na novinku od Arheno Dahla. Přečetl jsem si, o čem příběh pojednává a úplně změnil pořadí, v jakém chci knížky číst. Zítra jedeme do Chebu na koncert, ale až odpoledne. A tak dočítám resty s tím, že ráno se podívám na Uprostřed kruhu. Končím v jednu v noci. Usnu jako když mě do vody hodí. Ráno si jen promnu oči a ještě nenajedený si dám pár kapitol. Manželka je pryč a děti už mám velké. Mají své kamarády, akce. Sejde se to tak, že tu jsem sám. Udělám si snídani, otevřu okno a jdu na to. Chytnu se ihned. Mám tohoto autora moc rád, už jsem o něm samozřejmě psal a jakmile na mě vyskočilo, že je tu novinka, musel jsem ji mít.
Téma je aktuální. Mrtvola na poli poblíž Uppsaly. Ano, jsme na severu a někdo tu má spadeno na jeden ocelářský koncert. Děj je velmi autentický, věřím autorovi každé slovo a kniha se čte sama. Málem nestihnu oběd, už musíme jet. Kamarád volá a stojí před domem. Dávám mezi stránky záložku, běžím po schodech dolů. Ještě někde před Chebem mi v hlavě pořád naskakují jednotlivé útržky. Pak se soustředím na koncert, na focení, popíjím pivo a neskutečně si akci užiju. Domů se dostaneme ve dvanáct v noci a protože jsem všeho pořád plný, nemůžu spát. Syn sedí ve tmě a někomu píše zprávu. Pozdravíme se a vydržím to ještě hodinu. Ráno, když se konečně proberu, musím udělat fotky. Jakmile mám hotovo, ihned se vrhnu do čtení a vydržím to až do večera. Pravdou ale je, že jsem na to také velmi hrdý. Když se mi vrátí žena, hlásím přečteno. A jako vždycky, když se tak stane, tak mi to začne v hlavě šrotovat. Přemýšlím nad tím.
V knize se hodně často autor dotýká témata ekologie. Pravdou je, že v každé skupině bývají extremisti. Bohužel, historie nám ukazuje, že nikdo moc neposlouchá skromné odborníky, ale spíše ty, kteří víc křičí. Kšeft se dá dnes udělat vlastně na čemkoliv. Ochranu přírody nevyjímaje. Problém je, že se společnost postupně radikalizuje. Osobně si myslím, že na tom mají velký podíl sociální sítě, ale to berte jenom jako můj soukromý názor. Stačí se podívat kolem sebe. Kam se poděly ty hodné babičky z mého dětství? Připadá mi nedůstojné, když se dámy v letech chodí rvát do obchodu o levnější máslo. Nevrlí dědkové v tramvajích, agresivita. Kde pak mají brát mladí příklady? No, nechme toho, tohle je spíš na disputaci v hospodě. Pravda ale je, že jsme to rozebírali jak s kamarádem cestou do Chebu, tak i doma. Každý je dnes tak děsně v pohodě a nad věcí, že se pořád vysírá. Konec citátu jednoho mého kolegy z koncertů.
Nikdy jsem nechtěl psát jako klasický kritik. Nejsem za to placený a všechno dělám jen tak, z čiré radosti. Jsem moc rád, že moje skromné stránky čtete. Moc si toho vážím. Dávám do toho kus srdce. Víte, s autory, které rád čtu, to mám nastavené hodně podobně. Arne Dahl má svůj styl, který se mi líbí, volí zajímavá témata. I novinka má v sobě takový ten severský odér, napětí, syrovost. Krásně se hodí k pomalu žloutnoucím listům na stromech, k sychravému počasí. Noc se pomalu prodlužuje. S několika známými jsme se shodli na tom, že rádi chodíme pěšky. Rázuji si to každý den ráno do práce i místy, na kterých nesvítí lampy. Ohlížím se za sebe a do kostí se mi vkrádá chlad. Cítím se úplně stejně, jako když jsem četl Uprostřed kruhu. Za mě osobně je to velmi dobrá knížka nejen pro fanoušky severské krimi. Užil jsem si to, přišel na jiné myšlenky. Je to málo? Nebo hodně? Pro mě to znamená moc. Poslední roky jsou pro mě chvilky s knihou čím dál tím příjemnější. Vždycky se na ně hrozně těším.
Věci se mají řešit v klidu. Diskutovat o nich. Přemýšlet. Bohužel, dnes je doba rychlá tak, že vede ke zkratkovitému jednání. Radikální řešení s úsměvem na selfie. Kam se ztratil zdravý rozum? Takové to obyčejné logické uvažování? Netuším, asi se dávno rozplynulo v prázdných krátkých videích. Jak říká poslední roky jeden můj kolega v práci. Lidem jebe. Tohle jsem si z knížky také odnesl. Byly to velmi dobré společné chvilky, to vám povím. Pokud máte tyhle témata rádi, neváhejte ani chvilku. Troufám si tvrdit, že se vám bude Uprostřed kruhu také líbit. A pokud ne, tak třeba se vám za týden trefím do vkusu. Zatím se mějte co nejlépe, dívejte se na svět s úsměvem a ať se vám daří ve všem, na co sáhnete. Děkuji za pozornost!
Když na poli poblíž Uppsaly uhoří ve svém BMW divizní šéf ocelářského podniku, policie případ rychle uzavře jako nehodu. Avšak poté, co dojde k další „nehodě“, začíná komisařka Eva Nymanová tušit, že obě úmrtí mají určitou souvislost a pravděpodobně poukazují na debaty týkající se klimatické změny. Úsměv na tváři a milá slova plná odpuštění. Stačí odříkat několik modliteb a můžeš i dál páchat zlo. Na různých náboženstvích mi vždycky nejvíc vadila přetvářka, všechna ta lež. Zvrácení kněží a předstíraná pokora. Lidé se nikdy nepoučí. Stále se budou klanět padlým modlám a následovat falešné proroky. Jsem vždy rád, když potkám kapelu, která dokáže říznout do živého, která se náboženství postaví čelem a nebojí se spálit jej na popel. České ALTARS ABLAZE považuji za vyvolené. Za světlonoše, kteří dokáží pomocí své hudby obrátit všechny kříže směrem dolů, do nekonečné temnoty.
Když jsem poprvé slyšel trojici nových skladeb, vydanou pod jménem "Indiscriminate Extermination", napadala mě slova jako tlak, černá energie, smrt. Viděl jsem ve své fantazii spoustu obrazů z historie. Hranice byla opět zapálena a na rukou se mi objevila stigmata. Novinka smrdí prašivinou a sírou. Nikdy nevěřte lžím!
Jestliže je předchozí album "Life Desecration" (recenze je odkazována dole pod článkem) stále v mém přehrávači, tak se letošní EP ihned zařadilo po jeho bok. Pokaždé, když mám chuť na něco blasfemického, velmi dobře zahraného a složeného, pokaždé, když jdu kolem kostela a vidím zástupy tupých ovcí s podivným smutným výrazem na tváři, tak si narvu hudbu těchto tmářů pod tlakem do hlavy. Je cosi neklidného, neotřelého, násilného, co mě stále přitahuje a doslova nutí k dalším poslechům. Novinka je volným pokračováním věcí minulých. Odsýpá jako lavina z kostí, kamení a strachu. Cítím na prsou takový ten děsivý tlak, který u mě dokáží dobré nahrávky vyvolat. Jsem samozřejmě, stejně jako kapela, rád ve společnosti třeba takových ANGELCORPSE, DIABOLIC, HATE ETERNAL, DEICIDE, VITAL REMAINS, ACHERON, 1349, MARDUK, MAYHEM, ENTRHONED, GORGOROTH. Těmi se volně ALTARS ABLAZE inspirovali a nadále rozvíjejí jejich zvrácené myšlenky. Zároveň, a to je dnes doslova malý zázrak, má tahle smečka svůj vlastní rukopis. Představte si plesnivou kobku, ve které čekáte na smrt. Byli jste odsouzeni za to, že jste si dovolili nesouhlasit se samotným Bohem. Rouhali jste se, měli argumenty. Také cítíte ten vztek, divokost, tu touhu vyřvat všechnu nespravedlnost do světa? Potom jste přesně pochopili, o čem je hudba těchto tmářů. Žádné kompromisy, jenom rezavý nůž, zabodnutý přímo do vašich vnitřností. Opět se povedlo všechno. Zvuk, obal, ale hlavně hudba samotná. Blasfemický, divoký a nespoutaný black death metalový obřad, u kterého se vám znovu objeví stigmata! Oheň hoří temnou spalující silou!

It rushes like an avalanche of bones, stones, and fear. I feel that terrifying pressure on my chest that good recordings can evoke in me. Of course, like the band, I enjoy the company of the likes of ANGELCORPSE, DIABOLIC, HATE ETERNAL, DEICIDE, VITAL REMAINS, ACHERON, 1349, MARDUK, MAYHEM, ENTRHONED, and GORGOROTH. ALTARS ABLAZE were loosely inspired by them and continue to develop their twisted ideas. At the same time, and this is literally a small miracle today, this pack has its own signature style. Imagine a moldy dungeon where you are waiting for death. You have been condemned for daring to disagree with God himself. You blasphemed, you had arguments. Do you also feel that anger, that wildness, that desire to scream all the injustice into the world? Then you understand exactly what the music of these obscurantists is about. Stopy krve rozstříknuté po zdi i podlaze. Starý dům na konci ulice. Spokojená rodina, dvě děti, auto, dobrá práce. Teď tu někteří sedí, zohavení a s prázdným pohledem ve tváři. Bolest a utrpení se vznášejí vzduchem jako nějaké děsivé svědectví. Našlapuji opatrně, lekám se každého stínu. Chybí tu akorát ten hodný příjemný táta. Najdeme ho ve sklepě plném mrtvých těl. Sedí tu, kývá se do rytmu a usmívá se. Posedlý démony způsobil věci, které se nedají vrátit.
Velmi podobnou atmosféru má i nové album australských maniaků VILE APPARITION. Již po několika prvních tónech a motivech zjistíte, že takhle smečka je brutální a nekompromisní jako život samotný. Smrt, kterou nám pánové přinášejí je velmi bolestivá, krvavá a temná jako noc v márnici. Pokud máte rádi tenhle styl drsně, surově a špinavě, potom jste zde správně. Jen nechoďte do sklepa, číhá tam velké nebezpečí.
V tvorbě téhle kapely lze vystopovat odkazy na smečky jako CRYPTOPSY, SUFFOCATION, FACELESS BURIAL, SINISTER, DEEDS OF FLESH, EXMORTEM. Má přirovnání ale berte s nadhledem, tahle smečka má svůj vlastní rukopis. Skladby jsou napsané s pradávnou vášní pro smrt a nutno rovnou dodat, že se velmi dobře poslouchají. Taková ta klasická surovost se zde potkává s technikou. Činěno je tak ale zajímavě, rozhodně se nejedná o dnes tolik častá nezáživná preludia, kterých jsme někdy svědky. Naopak, VILE APPARITION se s tím moc nepářou, útočí přímo na solar plexus. Dělají to ale s citem pro dobré melodie. Navíc, stále si zachovávají takový ten staroškolský poctivý přístup, který já osobně velmi oceňuji. Koneckonců, jinak bych o nich ani nepsal. Zmínit musím i velmi dobrý zvuk a zajímavý motiv na obalu. Je znát, že pánové jsou zkušení muzikanti, kteří moc dobře ví, co a jak chtějí hrát. Není divu, kapela je složena ze členů SEWERCIDE a GUTLESS. "Malignity" na mě působí opravdově, reálně, uvěřitelně a autenticky. Nejvíc se mi osvědčil poslech po zhlédnutí nějakého dobrého hororu. Jasně, inspiroval jsem se jedním i v úvodu dnešní recenze. Ono totiž, nálada a atmosféra celého alba je opravdu velmi podobné. Alespoň tak na mě novinka působí jako celek. Doporučuji vám si opatřit i předešlé nahrávky, rozhodně stojí za to. Sestupuji pomalu po schodech do sklepa. Koukám, že jeden hák na zdi je připravený i pro mě. Zapínám play a ztrácím se v morbidním světě hnusu a krutosti. Syrový, temný a maniakální death metal, po kterém zůstává dlouhá, hluboká krvavá stopa! I vás při poslechu posednou démoni!

The death these gentlemen bring us is very painful, bloody, and dark as night in a morgue. If you like this style rough, raw, and dirty, then you've come to the right place. Just don't go into the basement, there's great danger lurking there.
In this band's work, you can find references to bands such as CRYPTOPSY, SUFFOCATION, FACELESS BURIAL, SINISTER, DEEDS OF FLESH, and EXMORTEM. But take these comparisons with a grain of salt, because this band has its own unique style. The songs are written with an ancient passion for death, and it must be said that they are very easy to listen to. Classic rawness meets technique here. However, it is done in an interesting way, definitely not the boring preludes that we sometimes witness today. On the contrary, VILE APPARITION doesn't mess around, attacking straight for the solar plexus. But they do it with a feel for good melodies. What's more, they still maintain that old-school honest approach, which I personally appreciate very much. After all, otherwise I wouldn't even be writing about them. I must also mention the very good sound and interesting cover art. It's clear that these gentlemen are experienced musicians who know very well what and how they want to play. No wonder, as the band consists of members of SEWERCIDE and GUTLESS. "Malignity" strikes me as genuine, real, believable, and authentic. I found it most effective to listen to it after watching a good horror movie. Sure, I was inspired by one in the introduction to today's review. The mood and atmosphere of the entire album is very similar. At least that's how the new release strikes me as a whole. I recommend you get the previous recordings as well, they are definitely worth it. I slowly descend the stairs to the basement. I see that one hook on the wall is ready for me too. I press play and lose myself in a morbid world of filth and cruelty. Raw, dark, and maniacal death metal that leaves a long, deep, bloody trail! Demons will possess you too when you listen to it!
Ve stínu stojí další maniak s motorovou pilou. Zrovna si odešel z letního kina a tvoje holka je vyděšená k smrti. Píše se rok 1985 a až přijdeš domů, tak vypiješ pár piv, užijete si spolu a zakouříte si trávu. Možná ale také ne. Je dost dobře možné, že nakonec skončíte rozsekáni na kusy a pohozeni u cesty. Kdo ví? Vítejte ve světě death metalových BONGINATOR. Kapely, která exhumuje starý svět béčkových hororů, synthwave a 16bitových zvuků počítačových her, VHS kazet.
Tahle smečka ke své morbidní práci přistupuje s nadsázkou a nadhledem. Nikdo se tu nebere zase tak vážně. Pokud se vám líbí třeba takoví CANNABIS CORPSE nebo WEEDEATER, asi víte o čem píšu. Zazní i lehké odkazy hardcore a výsledkem je nahrávka, která je nejen zábavná, ale také velmi dobře zahraná.
Američanům jsem vždycky záviděl ty jejich obrovský auta. Díval jsem se na filmy, jedl u toho popcorn a pil pivo. A když potom vylezly z děr zombie nebo nás navštívili vetřelci z vesmíru, byl jsem na vrcholu blaha. Byli to hrdinové mých mladých let a samozřejmě tu funguje velmi dobře nostalgie. Nenechte se ale mýlit, "Retrodeath", ať to zní jakkoliv hloupě, není jen obyčejným retro albem v řadě. Pánové do skladeb promítají spoustu dobrých, zajímavých a neotřelých nápadů. Jsou opravdu velmi dobře napsané a řežou tou správnou stranou nože. Vše hezky odsýpá, v jednotlivých motivech je spousta temné energie, tlaku. Navíc se album opravdu dobře poslouchá, má skvělý zvuk, stylový obal. Zapomeňte tedy na chvilku na umělé tváře dnešních žen, na korektní seriály na Netflixu a nechte se unášet po časové ose zpět, do doby, kdy se kouřilo na každém rohu, nosily se knírky a porno bylo ještě zábava. Hele, kámo, víš co, mě se vždycky líbila nadsázka, vtip, mám dodnes rád černý humor. Navíc, troufám si tvrdit, že naživo to musí být fakt pořádná jízda. Každé auto musí mít pořádné reproduktory. V nich kazeta téhle kapely, krásná holka vedle na sedadle, co se dneska vůbec nestydí a samozřejmě návštěva baru, ve kterém se hrají samý starý písničky. Kurva, brácho, pořád to má něco do sebe, nemyslíš? Svět je kolem jiný, změnil se, až to není hezké, tak proč si chvilku neudělat dobře a nezavzpomínat si? Berte a nebo nechte být. Já se bavím a rád se k desce vracím. Masakrující death metal, který vás vrátí do světa klasických monster, VHS kazet, synthwave a 16bitových zvuků počítačových videoher! Krve se ve vás nedořežou!

They are really well written and cut with the right side of the knife. Everything flows nicely, and there is a lot of dark energy and pressure in the individual motifs. In addition, the album is really easy to listen to, has great sound, and stylish cover art. So forget for a moment about the artificial faces of today's women and the politically correct series on Netflix, and let yourself be carried back in time to a era when people smoked on every corner, mustaches were worn, and porn was still fun. Hey, buddy, you know what, I've always liked exaggeration, jokes, and I still like dark humor today. Plus, I dare say that live, it must be a really wild ride. Every car needs good speakers. A cassette tape of this band, a beautiful girl next to you in the seat who isn't shy at all today, and of course a visit to a bar where they play nothing but old songs. Damn, bro, it still has something to it, don't you think? The world around us is different, it's changed so much that it's not nice anymore, so why not have a good time for a while and reminisce? Take it or leave it. I'm having fun and I like to come back to this album. Každý chtěl svoji fotku. Netuším proč, ale asi je to v lidech. Touha po morbiditě. Jako když se kdysi pořádaly veřejné popravy. Koneckonců, v některých zemích stále probíhají. Čerstvě odkrytý hromadný hrob vydal spoustu svědectví o lidské bestialitě, o hrůzných věcech, kterých jsou někteří z nás schopni. Pach smrti, spoutané ruce za zády, zbytky tkání, prostřelené lebky. Hnus a špína, jejich duše nikdy nenajdou klid. Musel jsem jít bokem, chvilku se vydýchat a potom si vyhledat ve svém přehrávači nějakou hudbu, která by mě uklidnila. Tentokrát volím finské brutalisty ENRAGEMENT. Jejich nová nahrávka se krásně krutě hodí k čerstvě odkrytému hromadnému hrobu.
Od prvního tónu, melodie i riffu je jasné, že pánové se s tím moc nepářou, jsou nekompromisní, ale nezapomínají ani na temnotu a chlad. Jakoby se probudily při poslechu pradávné přízraky. Přišly se pomstít, za všechnu bolest, která jim byla kdysi způsobena. Tohle všechno jakoby se promítlo do nového alba. Pokud máte tenhle styl rádi, neváhejte ani chvilku. Postupně zjistíte, že i pro vás už je někde vykopán čerstvý hrob.
I v dnešní době nadprodukce přistupují k hudbě stále postaru. Pokaždé si sednu, nechám na sebe muziku chvilku působit a teprve po nějakém čase se rozhodnu, zda o kapele napíši, či nikoliv. ENRAGEMENT mi v hlavně uzráli vlastně ihned. Rád jsem se k albu vracel, rval si ho do uší pod tlakem. Není divu, splňuje všechny body, požadavky, které na dobrý death metal mám. Povedl se zvuk, obal, baví mě ale hlavně nápady, jednotlivé pasáže, které jsou dle mého skromného úsudku dobře napsané. Pokud máte ve svých diskografiích kapely jako jsou třeba ABORTED, ANALEPSY, KATALEPSY, BENIGHTED, CUTTERRED FLESH, DEVOURMENT, BLOOD RED THRONE, potom jste zde správně. Skladby jsou opravdu velmi surové, divoké, mají v sobě takovou tu krvavou jiskru, kterou mám u tohoto guturálního stylu tolik rád. "Extinguish All Existence" je navíc přesně tím druhem alba, které se velmi dobře poslouchá. Leze mi do mysli tak nějak automaticky. Baví mě se vracet a stále objevovat nová temná a chladná zákoutí. I had to step aside, catch my breath for a moment, and then find some music on my player that would calm me down. This time, I choose the Finnish brutalists ENRAGEMENT. Their new recording fits beautifully and cruelly with the freshly uncovered mass grave.
From the first note, melody, and riff, it's clear that these gentlemen don't mess around, they are uncompromising, but they don't forget the darkness and coldness either. It's as if ancient ghosts have awakened while listening. They have come to take revenge for all the pain that was once inflicted on them. All of this seems to be reflected in the new album. If you like this style, don't hesitate for a moment. You will gradually discover that a fresh grave has been dug for you somewhere.
Even in today's age of overproduction, they still approach music the old-fashioned way. I always sit down, let the music sink in for a while, and only after some time do I decide whether or not to write about the band. ENRAGEMENT actually matured in my head immediately. I enjoyed returning to the album, listening to it repeatedly. It is not surprising, as it meets all the criteria I have for good death metal. The sound and cover art are well done, but I especially appreciate the ideas and individual passages, which, in my humble opinion, are well written. If you have bands such as ABORTED, ANALEPSY, KATALEPSY, BENIGHTED, CUTTERRED FLESH, DEVOURMENT, BLOOD RED THRONE in your discography, then you're in the right place. The songs are really raw, wild, and have that bloody spark that I love so much about this guttural style. "Extinguish All Existence" is also exactly the kind of album that is very easy to listen to. It somehow automatically gets into my head. I enjoy coming back and discovering new dark and cold corners. The Finns take a genuine, realistic approach, striking straight at the solar plexus. The simple truth is that I am very selective when it comes to this variety of deadly metal. ENRAGEMENT made it onto my shortlist. After all, this review is proof of that. Everyone wanted their photo. Ave PYROMANCER! Greetings from the underworld. I'm listening to your new album "Absolute Dominion by Fire" and I must say that it has a literally magical effect on me. It acts like some evil, ugly, and dark mantra. How did the album come about and how do you feel about it? Have you played any songs live yet? What did the fans say about them and what feedback have you received?
Master of Graveyard Torment - We have been around for a long time, but finally decided to push ourselves to record the LP. It was time to make our statement. Several songs from the album have been in our live set for years. The feedback has been very positive so far. We look forward to getting out more and spreading the evil.
Conqueror Horus - After the demo came out we became increasingly busy with our other projects for quite some time. However we decided that it was finally time to unleash this expression and all the material we’ve been sitting on and slowly writing in the background. We routinely play songs from the new record, and a couple of them are redone from the demo and the last EP. So far the reception has been positive.
Apart from PYROMANCER, you all play in other bands (Altars of Suffering, Apochryphal Revelation, Catacomba, Master's Curse, Rotting Kingdom, etc.). Who actually composes the music for PYROMANCER? Is it Anton? Is there any difference in the approach and method of creating new songs for PYROMANCER and the other bands?
Master of Graveyard Torment - The songs are collaborations, ideas being about 50/50. Everything is very chaotic, with the best material coming together very quickly. We set an intention for the track, as every song must have it's own unique set of influences. From there, the pieces usually come together quite naturally. If it feels forced or requires too much thought, it doesn't belong in this project.
Conqueror Horus - Our songs excel when being written off the cusp and with a large degree of looseness. Most of the material starts off this way however afterwards we refine it further. I handle the guitars, Master Of Graveyard Torment handles the percussion. We both attack the vocals and make suggestions concerning arrangements as needed. Aesthetics and philosophies are entirely a fusion of both of our headspace’s.
I really enjoy the sound of "Absolute Dominion by Fire"! So much darkness, so much filth, evil, and coldness! Where did you record the album? And how did the recording itself go? Did you talk a lot about the sound?
Master of Graveyard Torment - The drums were tracked in my dungeon rehearsal room, then we travelled to the engineer's home to finish. The recording went very well, especially considering our focus on rawer sound, which requires more effort than your typical modern extreme metal recording. It was important to have a good balance of dirt and clarity. We are influenced by older bands, before there was a uniform, plastic production everywhere, so it was important to reflect this approach but also indulge in modern tools when necessary.
Conqueror Horus - We opted to record in a humble setting intentionally. In fact, we had recorded the previous EP in a professional studio and were not as pleased with the sound in regard to Pyromancer specifically. While some artists might prefer that, we feel like our sound lends itself much better to a colder, rawer, and more primitive approach. We definitely deliberated for quite some time regarding the approach to how we wanted to track this record and the overall fidelity. It may not be for everybody but it has an undeniable charm that would have otherwise been lost had we gone a more “pro” route. We also intentionally worked with an engineer in our area that specializes in garage quality recordings and does a lot of stuff with tape reels, etc. In fact, all of the rhythm guitars and percussion were all done in analog tape reel with single takes. I think that is definitely a big part of this record’s authenticity and dark essence.
Who is the author of the cover art? How did you work together and what does the motif actually represent? The artist who painted it really manages to express darkness accurately. How did you choose the cover and how did you get together?
Master of Graveyard Torment - I left this choice up to Conqueror Horus and am very pleased with his decision. The imagery definitely reflects the fire and darkness contained within.
Conqueror Horus - This image is titled “The Volcano At Night” and dates back to the late 1800s. The artist is named Jules Tavernier. I searched for a while before finally deciding that this was the perfect image. In many ways, it reminded me of Bathory’s “The Return”, but a much more infernal volcanic take on that concept. Perfect for us!
The description of your band says that your lyrics are about death, blasphemy, and destruction. Where do you get your inspiration for them? And who is the author? Do you draw from old books? Or from movies?
Master of Graveyard Torment - Like most other aspects of the band, it is a 50/50 effort. Our focus and theme is obviously fire and black magic. Inspiration can come from many things, but starts with wrath, disgust and arrogance. Occultism of various sorts and RPGs are the main source of inspiration, but very earthly matters also have their place. Reality is much more violent and grim than any fantasy.
Conqueror Horus - All of our lyrics are written by us and are directly inspired by all sorts of dark musings and heinous occurrences on the earthly plane as well as our occult interests all coming together to make this expression. This project is a baptism in fire. There’s really no room for anything else.
In recent years, the US has been full of great death metal bands. But you are a big country. You come from Kentucky. What is your underground scene like, what about labels, fan support? And what about concerts, how many people attend? Are there any other great bands you can recommend from your area?
Master of Graveyard Torment - Our scene is small but dedicated. There was a lot of momentum a decade or so ago, but the key personalities involved had to take some time away from it all. We hope to lead the way and bring more violence and evil back to the region again. Between ourselves and the live musicians, collectively we are involved with most Black/Death in the state in one way or another at this point. Regional favorites include Valdrin, Paimon Gate and Process of Suffocation
Conqueror Horus - Other than the two of us and our affiliated projects there isn’t really a whole lot of old school evil metal in our area. As was said previously, the KY scene is relatively small however there are some dedicated heads that continue to support and have through the years. We try not to play locally that often, and most of our strongest crowd reactions are when we trek into other territories for gigs. My mentions for other regionals to check out would be Valdrin, Purulency, Flesher, and Nogothula.
How are PYROMANCER doing with concerts? I know that everything is mainly concentrated in big cities, but are you planning a tour with the band to present your new album? How about a big festival, are you tempted?
Master of Graveyard Torment - I am a very private person and do not enjoy the social aspect of gigging at all. I prefer to keep our live activities as one offs or no more than 2 or 3 shows at a time. Playing out is great for us, but only in measured amounts. We are open to festivals and special gigs, depending on the circumstances of course.
Conqueror Horus - I’m probably the more social of the two of us however taking on large tours is not too appealing for us. Small one offs as well as specialty appearances are more our style however a perfectly curated mini tour might be possible. I would personally really like to try and get this project out to another country at some point and further reaches in general.
I listen to "Absolute Dominion by Fire" over and over again and feel like I'm locked up somewhere deep underground. In an old moldy dungeon. The album is gloomy, with a lot of black and death metal vibes. Music is about conveying emotions. When you rehearse together, how do you get into similar states? When does inspiration come?
Master of Graveyard Torment - Anger is the fuel for this band above all. Conqueror Horus and I share a similar contempt for our fellow humans and you can definitely hear this in the performances. Alcohol also acts as an accelerant to the fire of course. Our activities are very sporadic due to the demands of our other bands, but when we get together, it flows effortlessly. Fire, power and fury.
Conqueror Horus - I would say our daily life and the grind of existence fuels a lot of our hate and anger that we pour into this project. This project is a boot to the face of all surface dweller culture in general. I guess that goes without saying.
I've always been fascinated by the darkness and coldness of death and black metal. The rawness. What does this style mean to you? Why did you choose death/black metal? How would you define it and how do you perceive it as a musician?
Master of Graveyard Torment - Black/Death has been a lifelong pursuit personally. There is a certain feeling that comes from evil metal that speaks to my spirit like nothing else. Ever since hearing these extreme bands at 12 years old, it has been a non-stop quest for more and more. Black and Death Metal is the last true bastion of creativity in music in my opinion, aside from ambient and noise. We are here to do the devil's work and when this theme is absent from metal, I lose interest in most cases.
Conqueror Horus - I agree there is a feeling that it gives you that is unlike anything else, and in many ways is not entirely something we can verbalize with mere words. When I play and listen to this type of music, I get a sense get of dark pride and separation from everything else that is viewed as acceptable or conventional. I’d say overall, the experiences is spiritual for me and allows me to explore dark ideations and mock what I hate . I can also live out my personal mythology through creating this type of art.
The inevitable question at the end. What does PYROMANCER have planned for the coming months? What can fans look forward to? If you have a message for fans, labels, promoters, here's your chance...
Master of Graveyard Torment - We are playing a series of local gigs with our new live lineup. Hopefully, we can find time to compose more tracks, but this will happen when it is meant to. Hail Lucifer.
Conqueror Horus - We’re going to be hibernating for the foreseeable future, but will return when we have more spells to cast…perhaps after the winter.
