ET MORIEMUR are doing things in an exceptional way for their upcoming full length titled 'Epigrammata'. Delving into the rich European history, imbibing Gregorian chanting and using Latin and ancient Greek to convey their message, the Czech supergroup of sorts with members of bands such as DISSOLVING OF PRODIGY, SELF-HATRED and SILENT STREAM OF GODLESS ELEGY, have assembled a host of musicians playing cello, violin, trombone among others and have even employed services of a choir to take their expression to another level. Kamarád měl dobrý vkus, nosil samé dobré věci. Třeba i SEPULTURU. A já mám tyhle kapely rád celý svůj metalový život. Jak to tak vypadá, tak slovenští DOGMA INC. také. Jejich v pořadí třetí deska, nahraná v bzeneckém studiu SHAARK a smíchaná v kalifornském Planet Z Studiu, by tomu odpovídala. Pokud obdivujete i americký groove metal, thrash, hard core, myslím, že by vás deska "Blacksun Flowers" mohla zaujmout.
"Blacksun Flowers" je dobrým albem, se slušně ošetřeným zvukem, hezky udělaným obalem. Jen se musíte oprostit od toho, že DOGMA INC. ze svých vzorů čerpají někdy až příliš. Samozřejmě s tím, že druhý Phil Anselmo a Dimebag Darrell, se jen tak nenarodí. Stejně jako Andreas Kisser. Tam kde slavné předlohy řežou jako čerstvě nabroušený nůž, ztrácejí slovenští maniaci trošku na síle. Osobně se mi pak nejvíc líbí poklidnější pasáže, když se zvolní a vynikne na povrch velký cit kapely pro melodie. Je znát, že si pánové dali s nahrávkou velkou práci, snažili se víc než na sto procent. Výhodou je, že v našich krajinách hudbu americké provenience takhle dobrým způsobem moc smeček neumí. Nevýhodou je někdy až velká snaha znít příliš urputně, křečovitě. Každopádně, "Blacksun Flowers" je určitě albem, které stojí za pozornost. Nechte si chutnat!

When a friend of mine give me a copy of „The Vulgar Display of Power“ cassette a long time ago during our way to school and he said, that I will be mad about this, he did not know what he had done. My friend had good taste, he wore good things. Even SEPULTURA. And I like these bands all my metal life. As it looks, Slovak DOGMA INC. also.
Their third album recorded in the SHAARK Bzenec studio and mixed in California Planet Z Studio would respond. If you admire the American groove metal, thrash, hard core, I think the "Blacksun Flowers" might be interesting to you.
"Blacksun Flowers" is a good album with a well-treated sound and with nice cover art. Just has to get rid of the fact that DOGMA INC. they sometimes draw too much from their idols. Of course the second Phil Anselmo and Dimebag Darrell will not be born. Just like Andreas Kisser. Where the famous masterpieces are cutting like a freshly sharpened knife, Slovakian maniacs lose a little bit of strength. Personally, I enjoy the most peaceful passages when they slow down, the melody of the bands are great. It is known that the gentlemen have done a great job with the recording, trying more than a hundred percent. The advantage is that in our countries the music of the US province does not play such bands well. The disadvantage is sometimes a great effort to sound too rigid, convulsive. Anyway, "Blacksun Flowers" album is definitely worth your attention. Bon appetite!

Mají na sobě masky připomínající rozesmáté lebky, vydávají thrashově ostrý zvuk a ničí vše živé v okruhu několika kilometrů. Na vesmírné lodi je nápis DR. LIVING DEAD! a vypadá to, že letošní invaze se opět podařila. Mix starých dobrých ANTHRAX, SUCIDAL TENDENCIS, bay area thrashe, mých oblíbenců FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, ale i třeba S.O.D. a NUCLEAR ASSAULT na mě pořád funguje. Nic nového na naší planetě, ale je to zábava, člověk si vesele podupává nohou a mosh-pit je zaručen. Někomu možná bude vadit občasná monotónnost, která se chtě nechtě do tvorby DR. LIVING DEAD! občas vkrádá, ale hlavní je si pořádně zapařit, nemám pravdu?
Album je po okraj narvané crossover thrashovými nápady, různými vtípky, ale dokáže být i pořádně temné a melodické. K nahrávce se můžete postavit dvěma způsoby. Buď ji ihned zavrhnout jako kopii dávných desek nebo ji přijmout a užít si ji. Osobně se mi líbí jak nápady, tak zvuk i celkové provedení. Dovedl bych si představit lepší obal. DR. LIVING DEAD! zkrátka patří mezi kapely, které sice hrají retro, ale hrají ho poctivě a zábavně. A o to jde v hudbě především. Takže přátelé, přivítejte thrashové vetřelce z vesmíru i tento rok a pořádně si to s nimi užijte. Velmi dobré album!

Aliens attack again! They are wearing masks which look like smiling skulls, there are thrash sharp sounds coming out of them and they destroy everything within a few kilometres. On the space ship is a sign DR. LIVING DEAD! and it looks like that this year´s invasion seems to have happen again.
This is the mix of the good old bands like ANTHRAX, SUCIDAL TENDENCIS, bay are of thrash, my favourite band FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, but also S.O.D. and NUCLEAR ASSAULT. All of this still works on me. This is nothing special or revolutionary but it is fun. You will move your leg in the rhythm and the mosh-pit is guaranteed. Some of you might not like the occasional monotony which is noticeable in the music of DR. LIVING DEAD! But the most important thing is to dance as crazy, right?
This album is full of crossover thrash ideas, different jokes but it can even be dark and melodic. You can see this album in two ways. You can either despise it immediately as a copy of older albums or accept it and enjoy it. I personally like the ideas, the sound and also the whole album. I can imagine a better cover. DR. LIVING DEAD! is a band which plays retro but they play it honestly and it is fun. And this is what music is about. So, my friends, let´s welcome those thrash aliens from the space and again this year we will enjoy it with them. Very good album!
Vaši kapelu jsem objevila náhodně před pár dny, kdy jsem vás viděla v rámci Evropského tour, které jste jeli společně s PROCESSION, kde jste propagovali vaši novou desku “Claws”. Musím říct, že se mi vaše vystoupení hodně líbilo, takže pojďme si trochu popovídat o vaší kapele a vezmeme to od historie, až do budoucnosti…
Na úvod bych se zeptala, co je vaší definicí “doom metalu”, co vás napadá, když někdo řekne tahle slova?
Napadají nás víry riffů, takových, co tě donutí skřípat zubama v chmurném uspokojení, a to vše ponořené do temné poezie. Pomalé tempo pomáhá, ale ve skutečnosti to není rozhodující faktor. Písně, které vyjadřují jemný pocit ohrožení, skvělé oduševnělé melodie, které tě provázejí od žhavé jámy až k blaženosti. Nádech zloby či zoufalství, atmosféra, která je v pořádku, dokud se hudba neodkloní od základního kořene, což je blues zabarvený heavy metalem.
Co váš návrat na scénu po téměř dvaceti letech!? …Rozhodli jste se vrátit zpět, obměnili jste sestavu a po třech původních demech jste vydali vaši první dlouhohrající desku v historii Epitaph . Jak k tomu došlo? Co bylo hlavní motivací?
Zpočátku jsme se vrátili jen pro sebe - původní členové a skalní fanoušci kapely, kteří se setkali jen proto, aby se pobavili a zahráli si staré melodie v místní zkušebně. Téměř okamžitě jsme ale zjistili, že toho nemůžeme znova jen tak nechat. V té době jsme byli docela přesvědčeni, že bude jen velmi málo prostoru - pokud vůbec nějaký - pro tenhle staromódní a neklidný projekt jako je tento. Shoda šťastných náhod a povzbuzení od několika málo vážených přátel nás přivedlo k závěru, že o tuto hudbu je pořád ještě nějaký zájem. Takže už nejsme jen ve zkušebně, ale znova se plavíme dál.
Proč se Epitaph před mnoha lety vlastně rozpadl? Sledovali jste i nadále metalovou scénu, jak se podle vašeho názoru změnila? Jak by jste hodnotili dnešní metalovou scénu v Itálii? Můžete nám doporučit pár kapel z tamní scény?
Po všech těch letech jsou důvody, které vedly k rozpadu stále nejasné. Ale jakmile je něco rozbité a umírá to, musíš to nechat jít. Samozřejmě to bylo velké zklamání, kvůli kterému jsme ztratili kontakt s undergroundovou scénou, zatímco bohužel narůstala nespokojenost s rozšiřujícím se mainstreamem. Jedna z nejlepších věcí na našem návratu je, že teď jsme znovu vystaveni širší scéně, pořád objevujeme nové kapely a alba, o kterých jsme předtím nevěděli! V Itálii je většina kapel buď velmi provinčních, nebo příliš posedlých standardem hlavních zahraničních kapel. Přesto je tu spousta skvělých kapel, které jsme si oblíbili. BLACK OATH, ABYSMAL GRIEF (s nimi jsme odjeli tour a vydali jsme společně split album) jsou prvními, které nás napadají. Určitě se mohou chlubit velkou osobitostí, přesvědčením, pozoruhodnou kontinuitou a vynikající kvalitou jejich produkce!
Na koncertě jsem si koupila vinyl vašeho prvního alba “Crawling Out of the Crypt”, je to skvělá deska! Nejen po hudební stránce, ale celkově koncept celé desky a její provedení…obzvláště booklet s uměleckými malbami… kdo je autorem těchto děl a kdo přišel s tímhle nápadem?
Všechny ilustrace jsou dílem Emiliana. Nakreslil je při psaní textů a všechny tyto umělecká díla jsou inspirovány texty a naopak. Další ilustrace najdeš na "CLAWS", protože se to stalo tak trochu naší tradicí.
Jaké to bylo ve studio po tolika letech? Měli jste nějaké velká očekávání? Jak probíhal nahrávací proces vašeho prvního alba po tak dlouhé době? Stalo se vám, že jste se rozhodli na poslední chvíli změnit nějaké riffy, nebo upravit nějaké části skladeb? Prováděli jste nějaké zvláštní konečné úpravy?
Už to bylo tak dlouho, co jsme byli naposledy ve studiu, že jsme se museli vypořádat s velkou novinkou a to digitální technologií. Ano, jsme tak staří! Během samotného nahrávání jsme v podstatě nic neměnili, ale stalo se to v noci těsně před nástupem do studia, k zuřivosti a frustraci některých členů! ... A udělali jsme to na obou albech, takže jsme nepoučitelní. "Crawling ..." má jedno specifikum, na které jsme hrdí – jeden z vokálů v jedné skladbě je G. Nepiho z renomovaných Dark Quarterer Stále máme husí kůži, když o tom přemýšlíme.
Můžete nám popsat vývoj EPITAPH po hudební stránce v průběhu let s ohledem na vaše dema / alba? Kterou z vašich nahrávek považujete jako nejdůležitější v historii Epitaph a proč?
Dalo by se říct, že druhé demo, "Sacrete and Profane" bylo to, kdy se ustálil náš specifický zvuk. Přesto bychom pořád chtěli začlenit všechny aspekty z naší historie, až k našim kořenům v “Black Hole”. Navíc, když se Lorenzo připojil ke kapele, přinesl těžkou dávku hard-blues, která je v "CLAWS" naprosto zřetelná.
Během vašeho vystoupení používáte několik rekvizit, jsou pro vás důležité, stejně jako interakce s fanoušky? Pomáhá vám to navodit atmosféru?
Hlavním účelem těchto rekvizit je, abychom se zkoncentrovali a dostali se do správné nálady, bez ohledu na to, jak na ně reaguje publikum. Snažíme se používat jednoduché rekvizity a poměrně střídmě, nepřejeme si totiž, aby rekvizity vykonávaly práci za nás! Na druhé straně, rádi pobízíme posluchače, fyzicky s nimi komunikujeme a posunujeme běžné hranice koncertu naživo.
Koncem září jste vydali vaši druhou desku “Claws” u High Roller Records. Kde jste nahrávali? Kdo se postaral o zvuk, mastering a produkci? Můžete nám trochu přiblížit concept této desky?
Album bylo nahráno a namixováno ve studiu “Industrial Record” ve Veroně. Chtěli jsme spolupracovat s lidmi, kteří dokážou bez mrknutí oka ustát náš sprostý humor a naše nesnesitelné časové harmonogramy! A jako obvykle je finální mastering dílo Patricka W. Engela – Sound Savant – Temple of Disharmony. "CLAWS" se skládá z pouhých pěti dlouhých skladeb a každá z nich se zabývá různými náladami a náměty - začali jsme s děsivým hororovým příběhem, pak se dotkli nevysvětlitelných historických faktů, sexu a rozpolceností duše požíranou nenávistí. Na rozdíl od prvního alba jsme se snažili o přímočarý zvuk a méně kláves, abychom se přiblížili našim živým vystoupením.
Kdo je hlavním skladatelem, kdo píše texty a jak probíhá proces vzniku nových skladeb?
Kromě textů, které jsou doménou Emiliana, Mauro a Lorenzo přispěli většinou nápadů na toto album. Není to však pevné pravidlo a může se to změnit při tvorbě novějších věcí!
Které kapely vás nejvíce ovlivnily? Ve vaší tvorbě slyším poměrně dost odkaz na CANDLEMASS, je tomu tak? Které kapely považujete za nejvýznamnější v historii doom metalového žánru?
Upřímně, každý z nás má velmi odlišný vkus, v rámci i mimo hranice doom metalu. Abychom se vyhnuli obvyklým konfliktům, když se probírají tyhle věci, nebudeme zmiňovat žádné názvy. Navíc naše oblíbené kapely nemusí mít nutně nejvýznamnější vliv při tvorbě našich skladeb.
Jaké jsou nejbližší plány EPITAPH to budoucna (po skončení turné)? Se kterou kapelou by jste do budoucna rádi sdíleli pódium?
V poslední době jsme měli poměrně nabitý program, jakmile dokončíme “Pacto de Sangre Tour”, vynaložíme čas na to, abychom vyzkoušeli nové nápady, počínaje těmi, které jsme dali stranou, když jsme, vybírali, co dáme na "CLAWS". Nemáme nutkání vydat nový materiál, dokud s ním nebudeme naprosto spokojeni, takže je před námi pár měsíců uvolněného jammování. Existuje řada kapel, se kterými bychom rádi sdíleli pódium. V širším slova smyslu je však nejdůležitější utvořit kombinaci kapel, které se od nás poněkud liší, přestože patří do stejného žánru. To fungovalo perfektně jak s Abysmal Grief, tak I Procession.
Díky moc za váš čas a za vaše odpovědi! Přeju vám hodně úspěchu a kluby plné fanoušků během vašeho turné, ať se merchandise prodává a snad brzo opět naviděnou na vašem koncertu….poslední slova jsou vaše pánové!

Hi Epitaph!
I discovered your band a few days ago randomly when I saw you on the bill for the gig in London alongside of PROCESSION during your tour over Europe with your new album „Claws“. I have to say I really liked your performance, so let‘s talk about your band and take us through the history of band to the future….
First of all, what is your definition of „doom metal“, what is your imagination when someone say these words?
We think of churning riffs, the ones that make you grit your teeth in grim satisfaction, all soaked in dark poetry. Slowness helps, but it’s not a crucial factor, actually. Songs that convey a subtle sense of menace, great soulful melodies ranging from the festering pit to the empyrean. A sniff of (angry) despair and ambience are fine, unless they make the music diverge from its basic root: blues-tinged heavy metal.
What about your reunion after almost 20 years! … You decided to come back, change a line up and realase your first full length album in history of Epitaph after three demos. Tell us, how did it happen? What was the main motivation for this?
At first, we came back just for ourselves: original members and fans from the band’s heyday got together just to have fun, performing those old tunes at a local rehearsal room. Almost immediately, we found that we could not let this thing go quiescent again! At that time, we were quite certain that there would be very little room – if any – for an old-fashioned and unglamorous project like this. A streak of lucky events, and some encouragement from a few esteemed friends, made us know that there’s still some interest in this music, after all. So, we’re no longer lingering in the rehearsal room and we’re now diving back into the fold!
Why did the Epitaph split up many years ago? And all this time, did you follow the metal scene? In your opinion, how did it change? What can you say about today metal scene in Italy? Can you recommend us some bands from local scene there?
After all these years, the reasons behind that split are still unclear. But once something is broken and dying, you have to let it go. Sure, it was a big disappointment, one that made us lose touch with the underground scene, unfortunately, while growing disaffected with the over-glossy mainstream. One of the best things about our comeback is that now we’re once more exposed to the wider scene, always discovering new bands and albums we weren’t aware of! About Italy, most bands are either very provincial or way too obsessed with aping the standards of the main foreign bands. Still, there’s a shitload of great bands we’ve grown so fond of; Black Oath and Abysmal Grief (we shared a tour and a split album with the latter) are just the very first to come to our mind. They certainly boast great personality, conviction, and remarkable continuity in the outstanding quality of their output!
On the gig I bought the vinyl of your first album „Crawling Out of the Crypt“, I really like it! Not only by musical side, which is amazing but as well all concept of this double LP and especially the booklet with artworks… who is a author of this artworks and who come up with this concept?
Emiliano did all those illustrations. He drew them while writing the lyrics: the artwork inspired the lyrics, and vice-versa. More illustrations are featured in the “CLAWS” booklet, as this is to become a little tradition of ours.
How it was in studio after so long time? Did you have a big expectation from it? How was the recording process of first album after so long? Did it happen that you suddenly decided to change some riffs or add some parts that were not planned during the rehearsals? Did you have any special final touch?
It had been so long since we last were in a studio that we had to cope with a major novelty: digital technology. Yes, we’re that old! We didn’t change parts significantly during the recordings themselves, but we happened to do so during the night right before the studio sessions, much to the chagrin and frustration of a couple of members!... And we did so for both albums, so we’re not properly learning. “Crawling...” had one special touch we’re so proud of: it featured G. Nepi from revered Dark Quarterer for some of the vocals in one of the tracks. We still have goosebumps while thinking of that.
Can you describe evolution of Epitaph musically over the years and over the demos/albums? Which recording are you consider as a most important in history of Epitaph and why?
One might argue that the second demo, “Sacred and Profane”, was the one that settled our peculiar sound. Still, we wish to incorporate every aspect and flavour from our history, even going back to our Black Hole roots. Furthermore, Lorenzo joining the band brought a hefty dose of hard-blues, that can be distinctly recognized in “CLAWS”.
During your performance you are using a few props, are those props important for you, same as an interaction with fans? It is helping to you create atmosphere?
The main purpose for those props is for us to focus and get in the right mood, regardless of the audience’s reaction to them. We try to use simple ones and to do so quite sparingly, we don’t wish the props to do the job in our place! On the other side, we love to challenge the people in the audience, physically interacting with them, pushing the usual borders of a live experience.
On end of September your released your second full length album „Claws“ via High Roller Records Where were you recording ? Who is responsible for the sound, mastering and production? Can you get us through this album and tell us a little bit about the concept?
The album was recorded and mixed at trusted Industrial Studio Recording in Verona; we like to deal with people that can stand our gross humour and our maddening timetables without flinching! As usual, the final master was the work of Patrick W. Engel – the Sound Savant – at Temple of Disharmony. “CLAWS” is composed of just five long tracks, and each of them tackles with different moods and themes: we started with a nightmarish horror story, then a touch of obscure historic facts, sex and the bleak husk of a soul consumed by hate. As opposed to the first album, we strove for a more direct sound, less reliant on keyboards, so as to get closer to our live performances.
Who is the main composer, who is the author or lyrics and how is the creative process of composing new material?
Apart from the lyrics, which are Emiliano’s province, Mauro and Lorenzo contributed most of the ideas for this album. This is not a fixed rule, though, and this might well change while composing newer stuff!
Which bands influenced you the most? I hear in your production Candlemass a lot, am I right? Which bands you consider as a most important in doom metal history of this genre?
Honestly, each of us has very distinct tastes, within and without the blurred confines of doom. So, in order to avoid the usual in-strife when this kind of matters arise, we will not drop any names here. Moreover, our favourite bands might not necessarily be the most prominent influences during the process of composing our songs.
What are the closest plan for Epitaph (after tour)? Which band would you like to share a podium with, in the future?
We’ve had a tight schedule of late and, as soon as we settle after the Pacto de Sagre tour, we’ll take our time to try new ideas out, starting from those we had to leave behind while choosing what to include in “CLAWS”. We don’t feel the urge to release new material until we’re truly happy with that, so a few months of relaxed jamming are ahead. There’s a number of bands we’d love to share the stage with. The most important need is to get combined with bands that are somewhat different from us, while belonging to the same genre, in a broad sense. This worked wonderfully with both Abysmal Grief and Procession.

CD 2017, Slovak Metal Army for english please scroll down Je pravda, že kultovní film Easy Rider mě dodnes fascinuje. Mám jej rád jako kulisu, líbí se mi hudba (jasně "Born to be Wild"). Mám dokonce řidičák na mašinu a chopper od Harley Davidson byl jednu dobu mým velkým snem. Pár mých kolegů z práce si už tenhle sen splnilo a pořád mi básní hlavně o moto srazech. Slovenská smečka MIDNIGHT SCREAM je přesně tou skupinou, která by mohla být na podobných setkáních hlavní hvězdou. Hraje hezky postaru, na novém albu kombinuje heavy, power, thrash metal s hard rockem, pohodovými melodiemi a nezbytnými "vznešenými" refrény. Desku jsem několikrát poslechl a i když patří do stylu, který moc nevyhledávám, několik příjemných vzpomínek mi na ní zůstane.
"Dark Blood" lze stylově zařadit na přelom osmdesátých a devadesátých let. Taková klasika, dalo by se také napsat. Zvuk v pořádku, obal také. Horší už je to s nápady. Připadá mi, že v kapele dřímá určitý talent, který vždycky vyleze na povrch jen po chvilkách. Často slušná melodie, riff, nápad je ale bohužel poměrně často stáhnutý dolů stále stejnými tklivými refrény. Nemůžu se ubránit tomu, že slyším také takový ten československý zábavový odér. Je to škoda, protože skladby jsou celkově dobré, poslouchatelné. Jen bych čekal na motorkáře víc rebelie, pořádný odvaz. O originalitě se bavit nemusíme, kapela asi sama ví, kdo jsou jejich vzory a podle jakých předloh skládají. Dnes vytvořit něco úplně nového je vlastně nemožné, ale záleží, jakým způsobem je hudební pokrm podáván. Do tvorby MIDNIGHT SCREAM bych příště přidal s dovolením trošku víc ostřejšího koření. Ale já do toho nemám kapele co mluvit. Za mě tedy asi takto.

"Dark Blood" can be stylishly classified at the turn of the eighties and nineties. Such a classic, we could also write. Sound OK, cover art also. Worse is it with ideas. It seems to me that there is a certain talent in the band, which always comes to the surface only for a while.
Often good melody, riff, but the idea is, unfortunately, quite often pulled down still with the same tough refrains. I cannot defend myself from hearing such a Czechoslovak entertainment aura. It's a shame, because songs are generally good, listenable. I would just expect more rebellion from the bikers to get a good deal. We do not have to talk about the originality, the band probably knows who their idols are and what is their inspiration during compositions. To make something completely new nowadays is actually impossible, but it depends on how the music is served. I would add to the creation of MIDNIGHT SCREAM a little more spice with permission. But I cannot talk to the band. So for me, like that.

Nad kostelem se stahují černá mračna. Ve vzduchu je cítit síra a zlo. Otevírám staré rezavé dveře a vstupuji dovnitř. Už začali, beze mě. S vyvoláváním temných sil. Pentagramy září do svitu plápolajících pochodní. Na oltáři leží dívka s proříznutým hrdlem. Peklo zase jednou otevřelo svoji náruč. Už jsou zde, italští death metalisté HELLISH GOD, aby podali další svědectví o záhrobních rituálech.
Kapela letos předkládá blasfemický materiál té nejvyšší kvality. Ostré a temné riffy, chorobný vokál, smrt v očích. To jsou všechno ingredience, které můžete nalézt i na nové desce "The Evil Emanation". Otevřete staré hrobky, aby vydaly svá poselství o zlu!
Na "The Evil Emanation" se mi asi nejvíc líbí krutá hra s temnými náladami. Obdivuji i zvuk, který náležitě řeže. Náhodě nebylo ponecháno nic. Obal září do tmy jako oči samotné bestie. Hudba ctí death metalové základy z devadesátých let. Je poctivá, reálné, ošklivá jako tvář čerstvého oběšence. Při poslechu mě napadají lehké podobnosti a inspirace s polskými AZARATH, připadně KRISIUN, ABHORRENCE, REBALLEIUN, DEICIDE. Samozřejmě s vlastními zahnívajícími ingredienci. Album na mě působí jako starodávná černá mše k vyvolávání temných sil. Má potřebný tlak, obsahuje v sobě nezbytné kousky zla. Hněte, pálí jako pekelný oheň. Onen svět poslal HELLISH GOD, aby nás svojí hudbou spálili na popel. Letos se jim to rozhodně podařilo. Totální inferno, plné nahrubo nasekaných kusů zla! Vynikající blasfemický death metal!

There are black clouds over a church. In the air is sulphur and evil. I open old rusty door and walk in. They have already started, without me. They call dark forces. The pentagram is shining to the glow of the torches. There is a girl on the altar with sliced throat. Once again the Hell opened its arms. They are here, this Italian death metal band HELLISH GOD to give another testimony of the burial rituals.
This year the band gives us the blasphemy material of the highest quality. Sharp and dark riffs, sick vocal and death in eyes. All of this are ingredients on the new album “The Evil Emanation”. Open the old tombs so they can give their message of evil!
On the album “The Evil Emanation” I like the cruel game with dark moods. I admire the sound which really cuts. There is nothing left to chance. The cover shines to the dark like eyes of a beast. The music honours death metal basis from the 90s. It is hones, real, ugly like the face of a hang-man. While listening I can hear slight similarities and inspiration by Polish band AZARATH, or KRISIUN, ABHORRENCE, REBALLEIUN, DEICIDE. Of course, they have their own dull ingredients. The album feels like old black mass to evoke the dark forces. It has the needed pressure, has the necessary pieces of evil. Come on, it burns like a hell fire. The beyond world sent HELLISH GOD to burn us with their music. This year, they successfully did it. Total inferno, full of roughly chopped pieces of evil! Excellent blasphemy death metal!

A few questions – interview with death metal band from Italy - HELLISH GOD.

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play , etc.?
Hi Jakub, thanks for the interview.
HELLISH GOD was formed in 2015 by Luigi Contenti (drums) and Michele di Ioia (guitars-backing vocals). Soon after, Mattia de Fazio from Antropofagus joined as main vocalist. The band recorded and released its first EP „IMPURE SPIRITUAL FORCES“ in 2016, then I (Stefano Malgaretti) filled the line up on bass. Together we entered the studio to give birth to our first full „THE EVIL EMANATIONS“, scheduled on January 8th 2018 by EVERLASTING SPEW RECORDS. Our style is pretty recognizable: fast strings, blasting drums and hellish vocals, in the vein of bands such as Krisiun, Morbid Angel, Rebaelliun, Abhorrence, Centvrian, Azarath and Internecine.
Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?
As for the first EP, we recorded and mixed everything at TOXIC BASEMENT STUDIOS in Carate Brianza, Italy. Carlo Altobelli (the owner) has now become a friend of us. He's super professional and working with him is easy: you don't have to tell him much -he also listens to extreme music and has worked with many death metal bands and believe me, that's a blessing- and, despite being serious while working, Carlo is one of the funniest guys around. He and the band collaborated strictly on the final mix, and we are totally satisfied with the results. Concerning the master, this time (for „IMPURE“ everything was done by Altobelli) Fabio Palombi from BLACKWAVE STUDIO (Genova – Italy) has been our choice. He studied at the notorious HERTZ STUDIOS, you'll hear the outstanding results of his work once „THE EVIL EMANATIONS“ is out.
How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?
Actually 1000 copies on CD format will be released by the label. Also digital downloads are available on both band's and ESR's bancamp platforms. No tapes for now, but as for the vinyl... we'll see.
Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?
Well I think Mattia (the author of the lyrics) is the one who can answer best to this:
Mattia: Basically it is a concept set on the Qliphoth and the Tree of Death.
Conceptually, they are a superior step compared to the classic topics dealt with and decidedly more complex.
I chose this theme because they blend well with our music.
Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?
The logo was created by Roberto Toderico (as well as our debut Ep's cover). Our actual graphics, instead, were done by Raoul Mazzero from VIEW FROM THE COFFIN, and we are now using them for our „internetian stuff“. The cover art for „THE EVIL EMANATIONS“ has been unleashed by Adi from DECHRISTIANIZE ART. Also the guys from EVERLASTING SPEW are helping us a lot with social networks, as we are all very busy with our daily jobs, and cannot follow this aspect that much. But, anyways, in 2017, platforms such as Facebook and Bandcamp are necessary... going back to tape trading/dubbing would be cool, but you have to fit the era you are living in.
Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?
„THE EVIL EMANATIONS“ will be released by EVERLASTING SPEW RECORDS, and we could not ask for anyone better. It's been years since I know Giorgio (we are from the same town) and all in HG are aware of his capability and professionalism (Mattia already signed to ES whith his other bands MINDFUL OF PRIPYAT and ANTROPOFAGUS). The label is pounding hard on promoting everyone in the roster and Tito is a monster doing that. This is luck my friend, we didn't have to search abroad for a decent label, and we have the best around.
Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?
As mentioned before, bands like Krisiun, Abhorrence (BRA), Rebaelliun (Fabiano Penna also did a guest solo on our first Ep), Angelcorpse, early Deicide are our main inspiration. To be honest, the list could go on like FOREVER -haha- just sum it up and say that all the blasting devilish death metal acts from Brazil, Poland, Florida and every act sounding like them is our main inspiration. Concerning personal tastes, me and Mattia have a FETICISM for everything that is Morbid Angel inspired/related, while Luigi is more „Poland oriented“.
Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?
To be honest no. The signing with EVERLASTING SPEW was so natural and immediate we didn't send anything to anyone else. Let's just say that we wanted them and they wanted us. And it was perfect from the start.
How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?
As for now, we only played live twice, so I can't really tell you wich gig I preferred. Our debut was in november 2016 at the „UNHOLY NIGHT PART 2“ with Demoniac and Into Darkness. Then we supported Angelcorpse in summer of 2017 along with our friends from Uncreation. The funny thing is that we only rehearsed all together twice. The members all live way far from the others (like 7 hrs by train), so it's difficult to find time and money for that. Anyway we played live and got in the studio 2 times, so I'd say everyone in HG is well aware of what he's doing and perfectly knows how to play death metal. Also, I don't think the venue is that important: open airs, small clubs... everything is good, just depending on the bands you are sharing the stage with and the crowd under it.
What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?
We have no specific targets for now, except playing satanic blasting death metal, and continuing the band as much as possible... but I cannot hide you that playing in the U.S.A. (expecially Florida) would be a dream come true. We are all into FL death metal acts since we were kids, so it would be amazing. Anyway the writing of new material started soon after finishing the recordings of „THE EVIL EMANATIONS“ and two other songs are nearly completed. The new stuff is always fast (maybe FASTER? Is it possible? YES IT IS) and we're also planning some gigs to promote the new album.
