A few questions - interview with death metal band from Brazil - CONVULSIVE.
Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?
Hell-o my friends, what´s up? We are Convulsive from Brazil, it´s great to us say some words here about our band!
We start our band in 2020 after we release the split of Feretral and Spermspawn (our other bands), the idea was born by Magrão, Affonso, Diogo and Splatter, our principal desire was play some brutal and true death metal, the true death metal maked in the late of 80´s and beginning of 90´s.
Our first song released was Sickened Ritual of Flesh and Pus in a demo version, we released the track in youtube and bandcamp to see the repercurssion and what some friends would say. The repercusion was good and we start the plan to release our first full album, and so was born the Grostesquery ruins of death. The album was record one part here in rio de janeiro and the bass recorded in Cuiabá, two states differently and far from other, but today it´s a little detail because with the internet the distance don´t exists.
Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?
We record the guitars, drums and vocals in rio de janeiro at Grindhouse´s studio, and Magrão recorded the bass in Cuiabá.
We don´t live too close and to Magrão its some complicated have a trip to rio because he´s work and we too, thinking about this we prefeer record our part in rio and mastering and mixing here too, after Magrão send to us you your bass track.
The production and mastering was maked by Bruno Borges of Grind House and us, and the most difficult was time and money, but the result of the album is too great to us and we are very satisfeid!
The album took six months to be ready, and now is time to spread some rotten death metal and slaughter some ears.
How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?
We'll release the album here in Brazil in Slipcase CD by the Blasphemy Productions.
In Chile the album probably will be release in K7 by the morbid ways to die records, but don´t have still any forecast.
In Europe we´ll release the CD in Italy limited in 300 copies by the death metal industry records, and in Germany we´ll release in cassete by the rat covenant records. We also receive a proposal from Narcoleptica from Russia but we have not yet closed anything for this release.
Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?
The author is Affonso Bestial Vomit and all the inspiration comes from horror movies, principally the european stuff. Movies like Zombie 3, Zombi (or zombie flesh eaters from Lucio Fulci), City of the Living Dead, Hell of the living dead. Evil Dead from Sam Raimi, Plague of Zombies from Hammer Films too. Horror Comics like Tales from the Crypt, Eeerie Magazine, Vault of Horror also served as inspiration too.
Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?
The logo was created by Affonso Bestial Vomit, and the graphic designer and pictures manipulations also maked by him too. Deoarsporfanum designed and made the CD´s booklet.
The cover art from the album was drawned by Fernando Giotefeli and we have works from Marcio Blasphemator too like the slipcase cover.
The graphic design is very important to transmit visual horror and complement the lyrics and the ideas from the band. We don´t have website because today we have social media to spread our sickeness and a lot of people use this pages.
Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?
Here in Brazil the labels are HellNoise Prod and Blasphemy Productions and we are very satisfied, absolutely satisfied. The work of this label is great, and Oscar Souza have the black flame of extreme metal burning in your rotten body!
We will release the CD in Italy by the label Death Metal Industry Records, in Germany we will release in Cassete by the Rat Covenant Records, and maybe in Russia by the label Narcoleptica.
We never work with this labels, but my other band called Into The Cave was released by Narcoleptica and they are great!!! Great bands are in the cast of this labels and it´s a great pleasure to us!
Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?
A lot of bands, so much bands my friend!
We love the American Death Metal stuff like Death, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Sindrome, N.M.E, Possessed, Sadistic Intent, Repulsion, Incantation, Mortician, Immolation, Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, Terrorizer, Imprecation and more.
Canadian Scene like Gorguts, Cryptopsy, Razor, Voivod, old Kataklysm.
European bands like Cancer, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Napalm Death, Warlord (UK), Gorefest, Pestilence, Sinister,...
Swedish and Finnish bands like Convulse, Entombed, Obscurity, Nirvana 2002, Dismember, Grave, Demilich, Demigod, Sorcery, Vomitory, ...
South American bands are our favorite bands, Headhunter D.C, Slavery, Corpsegrinder, The Endoparasites, Genetic Deformation, Coldblood, Mortus, Mortem, Masacre, Medicine Death, Sarcófago, Old Sepultura, Sextrash, Vulcano, Hellspawn (Sanctifier), Sarcasmo, Fleshgrinder, Gore, Decomposed God,
The new stuff are great too, we have Podridão, Poem´s Death, Open the Coffin, God Funeral, Leprovore, Poisonous, Tyranno, Hoeverde, Blood Incantation, Tombmold, Perdition Temple, Hyperdontia, Encoffination...
Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?
Only to Blasphemy Productions, the other labels has comes to us after we put our album to free play in our digital platforms.
How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?
We don´t play live until now, unfortunately. How we started activities during the pandemic, we decide to record the album and think about a gigs after the COVID ends.
Magrão lives in Cuiabá, and we live in Rio de Janeiro, we don´t are too close and to play live it´s more complicable.
But we receive some proposes, maybe we play one or two gigs in 2022/2023.
What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?
Our plans now is record a new EP and maybe a next full lenght in 2022.
