Začalo to pomalu. Nejdřív tomu nikdo nevěnoval pozornost. Někteří lidé se zastavovali na ulicích, poklekli, chytli se za hlavu a během šíleného křiku si rozdrásali obličej do krve. Nejdříve si všichni mysleli, že se vrátila nějaká pradávná choroba, jenže to nebyla pravda. Záchvaty šílenství, panika a neskutečný strach, tohle popisovali ti, kteří přežili. Bez očí, bez kůže, bez svědomí. Vrátily se jim jejich temné myšlenky, zlo, které kdysi někomu způsobili. Umírali nakonec v hrozných křečích.

A já jsem u toho poslouchal druhé album black metalových maniaků HELFRÓ. Kapely z Islandu, která se pokusila zhudebnit nekonečné stíny. Musím rovnou napsat, že se jim to opět povedlo na výbornou. Deska má v sobě zvláštní podmanivou atmosféru, je doslova nasáklá zkaženou krví. Až jednou uvidíte na ulici klečet člověka s hlavou v dlaních, tak určitě budete vědět, o čem píšu.

Pod skladbami je podepsaný Ragnar Sverrisson, zkušený muzikant, který moc dobře ví co a jak chce hrát. Mrazivý black metal ze staré školy s vlastním výrazem a rukopisem. HELFRÓ mají i letos skvělý zvuk, album je doslova radost poslouchat. Postarali se o něj Símon Þórólfsson (engeneering) a Mark Lewis (mixing, mastering). Líbí se mi i obal (Grindesign). Vše je zde ohlodané na kost, jednotlivé motivy v sobě mají velkou sílu, spoustu černé energie. Pokud bych měl potom k někomu tvorbu téhle smečky přirovnat, byli by to DARK FUNERAL, ABIGOR, Ragnar se ale vydává ale i do oblasti death metalu (HATE ETERNAL, MORBID ANGEL, BEHEMOTH), zazní i technické prvky. Album je tím pádem velmi pestré, zajímavé, neustále se něco děje. Zároveň, a to se opravdu velmi oceňuji, si skladby zachovávají přehlednost a syrovost. Vše stojí na jasné myšlence, ďábel se ukrývá v každém z nás. Zajímavé také je, že už dlouho se mi nestalo, že si jednotlivé motivy pamatuji, zní mi neustále dokola v hlavě. Možná za to můžou magické, záhadné nálady, které se prolínají celou nahrávkou jako had nebo k dokonalosti vybroušený a ostrý sound. Nevím. S čím jsem si ale absolutně jistý je, že tohle album budu doporučovat všem prokletým. Melodie jsou jako ostré hřeby, které mi kapela zatlouká do hlavy. Možná se jednou stanu svým vlastním stínem a najdete mě, jak klečím na ulici s obličejem v dlaních. Než se tak ale stane, budu nadále poslouchat "Tálgröf". Mrazivý, smrtící black metal, který je temným otiskem děsivých lidských myšlenek! Ozvěny ze severu!

It started slowly. At first, no one paid attention. Some people stopped in the streets, knelt down, grabbed their heads and, during the frenzied screaming, tore their faces to blood. At first everyone thought that some ancient disease had returned, but it wasn't true. Fits of madness, panic and unbelievable fear, this is what the survivors described. No eyes, no skin, no conscience. Their dark thoughts returned, the evil they had once done to someone. They eventually died in terrible convulsions.

And I was listening to the second album of black metal maniacs HELFRÓ. A band from Iceland that tried to musicalise the endless shadows. I have to write right away that they succeeded again. The album has a strange captivating atmosphere, it is literally soaked in corrupted blood. Once you see a man kneeling in the street with his head in his hands, you'll know what I'm writing about.

The songs are signed by Ragnar Sverrisson, an experienced musician who knows very well what he wants to play and how he wants to play it. Chilling black metal from the old school with his own expression and handwriting. HELFRÓ have a great sound again this year, the album is literally a joy to listen to. Símon Þórólfsson (engeneering) and Mark Lewis (mixing, mastering) took care of it. I also like the cover (Grindesign). Everything here is stripped down to the bone, the individual motifs have a lot of power in them, a lot of black energy. If I had to compare the work of this pack to someone, it would be DARK FUNERAL, ABIGOR, but Ragnar also ventures into the realm of death metal (HATE ETERNAL, MORBID ANGEL, BEHEMOTH), there are also technical elements. The album is therefore very varied, interesting, something is always happening. At the same time, and I really appreciate this, the songs retain clarity and rawness. Everything is based on a clear idea, the devil hides in each of us. It is also interesting that it has been a long time since I remember the motifs, they sound over and over again in my head. Maybe it's the magical, mysterious moods that run through the whole record like a snake or the polished and sharp sound. I don't know. What I am absolutely certain of, though, is that I will be recommending this album to all the damned. The melodies are like sharp nails being hammered into my head by the band. Maybe one day I'll become my own shadow and you'll find me kneeling in the street with my face in my hands. But until that happens, I'll keep listening to "Tálgröf". Freezing, deadly black metal, which is a dark imprint of horrible human thoughts! Echoes from the North!
