Dostali jsme se do stavu, kdy nás musí vyděsit i předpověď počasí. Když se to dobře pojme, tak i námraza v lednu dokáže být šokem. K tomu se každý den někde stane vražda. Byl to takový hodný soused, vždycky zdravil. Nikdy se nic nezlevní a když je velká úroda, tak určitě zdraží chleba. Ten zdraží vždycky. Kdybych byl mimozemšťan, co před dvaceti lety odletěl a letos se vrátil, asi bych si to hodil. Pokud se tedy může zelený mužíček oběsit. Nemáme to lehké, co? A děláme si to sami. Pliveme na sousedy, protože mají lepší auto, barák, kozatější paní. Chováme se podle influecerentů, kteří jsou zajímaví jenom tím, že se nebojí šokovat. Možná právě proto se čím dál tím víc před vším uzavírám. Nerad čtu špatné zprávy, nelíbí se mi tupé seriály. Místo toho se vracím na začátek. Vždycky jsem miloval knihy, metal, sport a les.

Jak člověk stárne, tak se na něj nabaluje spousta starostí a zodpovědnosti. Občas tomu tak chce osud, někdy starej dobrej strejda Bůh a nebo prozřetelnost, a najednou máme pocit, že na nás všechno padá. Práce, zdraví, starosti. V takových momentech vypínám celej svět a zajdu na pivo s kamarádama. Vyčistíme si hlavu, zasmějeme se, jako my na Výsluní), v pátek k večeru, když jsme se připravovali na koncert (já kupříkladu hlavně na EMBRIONAL a BRUTALLY DECEASED, anžto jsem death metalistou). Jakoby se najednou čas zastavil, když jsem viděl své spolubojovníky, jak do sebe hází vychlazené pivo a usmívají se. Máme to nastavené pořád stejně. Rovnice metal + pivo = zábava, pořád platí a funguje. Když nad tím přemýšlím, tak vlastně stále ještě chodím na akce hlavně kvůli lidem. Atmosféra bývá neopakovatelná a zážitky nepřenosné. Přesto se vám je pokusím opět zprostředkovat. To bylo tenkrát tak...do hospody zavítali i Embrional, zdravíme se, kecáme...



V práci jsem byl neklidný od rána. Na počítači se mi neustále v pravém rohu objevovaly šílené zprávy vygenerované pravděpodobně umělou inteligencí. Krev, sex, šok! Otevřu tedy raději mobil a je to ještě horší. Oklepu se mrazem. Jednak nám v práci netopí a hlavně na mě vyskočil další nenávistný příspěvek. Raději pracuji, abych vše do jedné stihnul. Se sluchátky na uších se připravuji. A vymýšlím názvy metalových kapel (black metal - KABANOS, death metal - ZANÍCENÝ NEHET, thrash metal - ELEKTRICKÝ ZOMBIE, heavy  metal - OCELOVÉ ELASŤÁKY). Domů jedu přes celé město, abych potom prohodil pár slov s rodinou. Na zítra mi nic neplánujte, pravděpodobně se nebudu moc hýbat, mluvit, ani reagovat na světlo. A to musím sepsat report, natáhnout fotky a video. Práce jak na kostele. Nikdo vám za to nic nedá. Pochválí málokdo. Tati a proč to tedy děláš? Abych si vyčistil hlavu. Odpovím a jdu na to pivo. Probíráme knížky, předchozí akce, plánujeme následující. Zkrátka obyčejný, ničím zajímavý život stárnoucích metalistů. Ale srandy je kopec. Jsme na stejné vlně a plně se socializujeme, jak by řekli dnešní mladí. 

Jdu ještě naposledy na žlábek a libuji si, že aspoň ta prostata je zatím v pořádku. Jinak mě bolí celé tělo, moc jsem nespal, moc pracoval, ponocoval, hodně psal, propagoval, snažil se podporovat kapely. Padám na hubu, ale nedávám to na sobě znát. Mám nasazený opravdový, upřímný úsměv a vstupem do mého oblíbeného klubu ze mě všechno spadne. Zdravím další kamarády a známé. Měl bych si dělat poznámky, jako jsem to viděl u jednoho psavce, neměl bych pít, abych se pečlivě soustředil na výkony kapel. Jenže to já neumím. Jsem přesně v takové té vznešeně rozevláté náladě, kdy mě nic "zázrakem" nebolí a je mi moc fajn. Dám si pivo a v družném rozhovoru čekám na první kapelu.


BRUTALLY DECEASED - opět jsme spolu, zase po nějaké době, otevřeli další rakev. Mimo shnilého těla ve značném stádiu rozkladu v ní byl také uložen starý death metal. Rodokmen mrtvého lze vystopovat jak do dalekého Švédska, tak i třeba na Floridu. Gentlemanům to sypalo o sto šest. Praskalo mi v kostech a mozek se vařil ve vlastní šťávě. Pokud vám něco říká pojem trepanace lebky, tak určitě víte, o čem píšu. Kapela připravuje nové album a myslím si, že je na co se těšit. Alespoň dle libozvučných ukázek, které zazněly sálem jako nějací morbidní poslové z katakomb. Říkám to stále a dokola. Když death metal, tak prosím takto. Navíc to mělo poctivý, metalový koule. Howgh! 





We opened another coffin together, again after some time. Apart from the rotten body in a considerable stage of decomposition, it also contained old death metal. The dead man's lineage can be traced to as far away as Sweden and as far away as Florida. Gentlemen were in for a treat. My bones were cracking and my brain was boiling in its own juices. If the term skull trepanation means anything to you, you know what I'm writing about. The band is working on a new album and I think it's something to look forward to. At least according to the lilting samples that rang through the hall like some morbid messengers from the catacombs. I've said it over and over again. If death metal, then please like this. Plus, it had honest, metal balls. Howgh!


SEE YOU IN HELL - crust hard core destrukce těla i mysli. Kapela hraje zcela mimo moji kompetenci, ale baví mě. Už jsem je párkrát viděl a vždy jsem odcházel spokojený. V pátek tomu nebylo jinak. Byla to smršť, vichřice, uragán. Vše náležitě neučesané, naštvané. Pánové to do nás nahrnuli a neměli s námi žádné slitování. Jen jsem měl trošku strach, aby mi nevypadaly plomby a keramika z té mé nevymáchané huby. Taková to byla síla!  




Crust hard core destruction of body and mind. The band plays completely out of my competence, but I enjoy it. I've seen them a couple of times and always left satisfied. Friday was no different. It was a whirlwind, a whirlwind, a hurricane. All properly unkempt, angry. The gentlemen piled into us and had no mercy on us. I was just a little worried about the fillings and ceramics falling out of my unwashed mouth. It was such a force!


EMBRIONAL - každý si asi představujeme peklo jinak. Pokud nevíte nebo tápete, měl bych pro vás jeden tip. Ti chytřejší z vás už asi tuší. Tuhle polskou temnou smečku sleduji již od jejich počátků. Nikdy mě nezklamali. Nestalo se to ani v Plzni. Zazněly songy plné nihilismu, špíny,  hnisu, zkažené krve. Všechno smrdělo sírou a chvílemi jsem měl pocit, že z pódia stéká rozžhavená láva. Hudba těchto satanových následovníků není pro každého. Vyžaduje pozornost a pořádnou dávku morbidní fantazie. Bylo to mocné, divoké, zuřivé, plné krutých a ošklivých melodií. Během vystoupení jsme spolu s kapelou sestoupili o několik metrů pod zem a exhumovali jsme další hroby prokletých. Technika se střídala s agresí a smrt byla velmi blízko. Na tomhle hřbitově se mi hodně líbilo. Skvělá zabijácká práce a death  metal, který smrděl sírou. 







I guess we all imagine hell differently. If you don't know, or if you're confused, I have a tip for you. The smarter among you probably already know. I've been following this Polish dark pack since their early days. They've never let me down. It didn't even happen in Pilsen. There were songs full of nihilism, filth, pus, bad blood. Everything smelled of sulphur and at times I had the feeling that hot lava was dripping from the stage. The music of these followers of Satan is not for everyone. It requires attention and a good dose of morbid imagination. It was powerful, wild, furious, full of cruel and ugly melodies. During the show, the band and I descended several feet underground and exhumed more graves of the damned. Technique alternated with aggression and death was very close. I really liked this cemetery. Great killer work and death metal that reeked of sulfur.


SQUASH BOWELS - je libo něco málo vyhřezlých vnitřností? Nějaké to syrové gore grindové maso, podávané na špinavém prkně? Nejsem v tomhle stylu nijak kovaný a rozhodně není častým hostem v mém jídelníčku, ale pánům to na pódiu moc slušelo. A nejen to. Je to stará parta, co brázdí pódia od roku 1994. Legenda, chcete-li. Poláci kopli do vrtule a na nás se snesl z pódia déšť brutálních riffů, groove pasáží i zuřivých sypaček. Tohle všechno dohromady mělo několik důsledků. Popraskané ušní bubínky, mozek vyteklý z hlavy, střeva, válející se všude kolem. Myslím to samozřejmě obrazně, ale pokud byste byli na koncertě s námi, určitě byste mi potvrdili, že to byl klasický masakr bez kompromisů. Troufám si tvrdit, že se pitva povedla na výbornou! 





Would you like some of the guts of the carcass? Some of that raw gore grind meat served on a dirty plank? I'm not forged in this style, and it's certainly not a frequent guest on my menu, but the gentlemen were very much at home on stage. And not only that. They're an old crew that's been taking the stage since 1994. A legend, if you will. The Poles kicked the propeller and a rain of brutal riffs, groove passages and furious sprinkles descended on us from the stage. All this together had several consequences. Cracked eardrums, brains spilling out of our heads, guts rolling all over the place. I mean this figuratively, of course, but if you were at the show with us, you'd confirm that it was classic carnage without compromise. I dare say the dissection was excellent!

Zvuk byl dobrý, návštěvnost slušná a organizace v pořádku.  

Když už se zadaří a vyrazím na koncert v Plzni, tak se pokaždé utrhnu ze řetězu. Většinou končím na baru, popíjím a nechci, aby akce skončila. Potácím se klubem, tlemím se od ucha k uchu a nic nedbám toho, že už mám věk a šedé vlasy nejen na skráních. Na tomto místě by se slušelo poděkovat pořadatelům a vlastně všem, kdo se o mě tak hezky starali. Ani vlastně pořádně nevím, jak jsem se ocitl doma. Ráno jsem dělal, že spím, nechtěl jsem do toho špinavýho, reálnýho světa plnýho dezinformací, tupých zpráv, umělých celebrit, vstoupit. Pak jsem byl ale stejně probuzen a mě nakonec zůstaly aspoň parádní vzpomínky na skvělou akci. Bylo dobře? Bylo. Díky, díky a ještě jednou pěkně děkuji. Mějte se co nejlépe a vaší podpory si opravdu vážím, nemyslete.

Polská gore grindová legenda Squash Bowels, blasphemici Embrional, švédském nasáklý death metalisté Brutally Deceased a HC/crustový veteráni See You in Hell vyjedou na začátku letošního roku na společné víkendové tour nazvané NIGHTS ov GORE and DESTRUCTION, v rámci kterého se představí 4x v ČR!

Polsko je Evropským srdcem gore grindu a Squash Bowels nesou hrdě již neuvěřitelných 30 let na scéně prapor nasáklý krví a spiritusem a po delší době se představí v Čechách na klubové scéně. Kapela z Polského Bialystoku s neuvěřitelně dlouhým seznamem vydaných nahrávek a splitů bezpochyby patří k tomu nejlepšímu, co gore grind za svoji historii přinesl. Čekají vás brutální riffy střídající chytlavé groovy party, ultra rychlé sypačky a zprasený zpěv. Těšte se na legendy gore grindu, těšte se na Squash Bowels!

Extrémnímu metalu se v Polsku bezpochyby posledních 20 let daří. Embrional jsou jednou z kapel, která patří k tomu nejlepšímu, co v rámci death metalu za poslední roky vznikly. V Polsku byla vždycky velmi silná death metalová scéna a na pevných základech, které kdysi postavili např. Vader s Behemoth vznikla nová akvizice, kterou v roce 2003 založil Marcin Skullripper. Agresivní, temný a velice technický death metal v nejvyšší kvalitě. Kapela se členy Azarath, Dissenter nebo Hellfuck přiveze apokalyptickou jízdu smrti.

Další partou, která se v rámci NIGHTS ov GORE and DESTRUCTION tour představí, jsou domácí Brutally Deceased. Kapela, která už od roku 2007 drtí poctivý metal smrti se švédským HM-2 zvukem má čerstvě nahranou novou desku. Kromě klasických skladeb bezpochyby dojde na těchto koncertech i k představení některých novinek z připravovaného alba, které slibuje smršť sofistikovaných a atmosférických riffů podpořenou profesionálně zahranými blasty.

Druhým českým zástupcem na tomto turné jsou léty prověření borci z Brna - See You In Hell! Kapela, která už přes 20 let drtí poctiví hardcore crust s temnými texty má čerstvě vydanou desku „Do smrti a ještě dál“, která vyšla u Insane Society records a kterou v rámci setu určitě představí. O kvalitě SYIH v tomhle stylu nemůže být pochyb, se svojí muzikou objeli celý svět a tak nezbývá než se těšit na nihil crust as fuck!

Obyčejný lidský rozum už nikoho nezajímá. Stali jsme se obětmi svých vlastních zvrácených představ. Staré apokalyptické sci-fi filmy se stávají pomalu realitou. Rabování, lynčování, rozzuřený dav, ovládaný jako roboti. Stačí jim hodit kus syrového masa a roztrhají vás na kusy. Bývá mi smutno, když sleduji zprávy, jsem rozčilený, když čtu příspěvky v diskuzích. Raději bych vzal do rukou motorovou pilu a všechno rozřezal. Jenže to bych byl jako oni, jako šílenci s prázdným pohledem, pochodující ulicemi. Raději v podobných chvílích vyhledávám hudbu, která mi vyčistí mysl.

Dostala se mi do rukou první deska amerických maniaků REAP. Nenechte se mýlit tím, že o smečce nic nevíte. Měli byste to napravit. Pod tímhle jménem jsou totiž podepsáni zkušení muzikanti z kapel jako LIVIDITY, NECROTIC DISGORGEMENT, BETWEEN THE KILLINGS, GORGASM, DEADEN. Mám takový pocit, že si pánové jednou sedli někde v hospodě a nad barem zrovna vysílali zpravodajství. Naštvali se, šli do studia a vytvořili tuhle desku. Je totiž po okraj narvaná vztekem, surovostí a touhou ničit. A taky skvělým death metalem a grindem. 


Když jsem byl mladý, tak jsem kdysi zažil pár šílených rvaček. Dostal jsem několik ran a pak do mě kopali a mlátili mě. Přežil jsem vlastně zázrakem. A pamatuji si, že nejhorší nebyla fyzická bolest, ale ponížení. Měl jsem obrovský vztek a byl jsem frustrovaný. A tak jsem poslouchal kapely jako NAPALM DEATH, ROTTEN SOUND, S.O.D., NASUM. Vztek mě potom přešel, vyřval jsem se na koncertě, skočil jsem do mosh-pitu. Tak přesně takhle hrají i REAP. Pánové exhumovali starou školu a udělali to velmi elegantně a uvěřitelně. Při poslechu si opravdu připadám, že jsem vstoupil do ringu. Nemám žádné rukavice, ani chrániče. Cítím jednotlivé riffy i údery bicích, vnímám jejich sílu a energii. Ctí se zde ryzí pravidla, tradice, vše je takové opravdové, syrové, reálné. Žádné dnešní napomádované primadony, ale tvrdí chlápci, co už nemusí nikomu nic dokazovat. Základem je vždy dobrý zvuk a na ten si dali pánové pozor. Všechno je v pořádku, stejně jako obal, který jak známo prodává. Američané jdou zkrátka na dřeň, vše je ohlodané na kost. Vy si tak můžete vychutnat nejen skvělé songy, ale i velmi podmanivou atmosféru. Vždycky, když píšu nějakou recenzi, tak si sednu, zapnu přehrávač a chvilku jen tak sedím a poslouchám. Tentokrát jsem ale po několika skladbách skákal po pokoji a vypadal jako po zásahu elektrickým proudem. Není divu, v téhle desce je nakumulováno obrovské množství tlaku a energie. Obyčejný lidský rozum už nikoho nezajímá. Stali jsme se obětmi svých vlastních zvrácených představ. Zrozeni z hněvu, nenávisti a lidského šílenství! Klasický death grindový masakr motorovou pilou!

Ordinary human reason no longer interests anyone. We have become the victims of our own perverted ideas. The old apocalyptic science fiction movies are slowly becoming reality. Looting, lynchings, angry mobs controlled like robots. Just throw them a piece of raw meat and they'll rip you apart. I get sad when I watch the news, I get angry when I read the posts on the discussion boards. I'd rather pick up a chainsaw and cut it all up. But then I'd be like them, like the blank-eyed lunatics marching through the streets. I prefer to seek out music to clear my mind at times like this.

I got my hands on the first record by American maniacs REAP. Don't be fooled into thinking you know nothing about the pack. You should fix that. Under this name are signed experienced musicians from bands like LIVIDITY, NECROTIC DISGORGEMENT, BETWEEN THE KILLINGS, GORGASM, DEADEN. I have a feeling that the gentlemen once sat down in a pub somewhere and the news was being broadcast over the bar. They got pissed off, went into the studio and made this record. It's filled to the brim with anger, rawness and a desire to destroy. And great death metal and grind.


I had some crazy fights when I was young. I got hit a few times and then I got kicked and punched. I survived by a miracle, actually. And I remember the worst part wasn't the physical pain, it was the humiliation. I was very angry and frustrated. So I was listening to bands like NAPALM DEATH, ROTTEN SOUND, S.O.D., NASUM. And then the anger would pass, and I'd yell at a show, and I'd jump into a mosh pit. That's exactly how REAP plays. The gentlemen exhumed the old school and did it very elegantly and believably. Listening to them, I really feel like I've stepped into the ring. I'm not wearing any gloves or pads. I feel the individual riffs and drum beats, I feel their power and energy. The pure rules and traditions are honored here, everything is so real, raw, real. Not today's pompous prima donnas, but tough guys who don't have to prove anything to anyone anymore. The basis is always good sound and the gentlemen have paid attention to it. Everything is fine, as is the packaging, which as we know sells. The Americans go to the bone, everything is gnawed to the bone. So you can enjoy not only great songs, but also a very captivating atmosphere. Every time I write a review, I sit down, turn on the player and just sit and listen for a while. But this time, after a few songs, I was bouncing around the room looking like I'd been electrocuted. No wonder, there is a huge amount of pressure and energy accumulated in this record. No one cares about ordinary human reason anymore. We've become victims of our own twisted ideas. Born of anger, hatred and human madness! A classic death grind chainsaw massacre!

Venku mrzlo a v ulicích se toulaly divné stíny. Oči upřené do obrazovek, cítil jsem z nich nenávist. Všichni se sešli v šíleném davu a měli ústa plná prázdných slov a vzteku. Šel z nich strach. Hledali nejslabší kus, další oběť. Rabování, násilí a nekonečná bolest. Vypnul jsem televizi i internet a schoval se do sklepa. Několik metrů pod zem, do temnoty a chladu. Frustrace a beznaděj musely ven. Zapnu hi-fi věž a vložím do přehrávače nové split českých INSISTENT a finských FEASTEM. Stačí několik prvních tónů a kapely mě chytí za vlasy a vytřou se mnou podlahu. Když grindcore, tak prosím v tomto provedení. Neexistuje svět okolo mě, v ulicích nejsou žádné stíny. Jsem jenom já a hudba.

Nebudu vám zde rozebírat podrobně jednotlivé skladby, ani se nebudu zaobírat produkcí a provedením. Obě smečky jsou natolik zkušené, že to ani není potřeba. Po formální stránce je vše v nejlepším pořádku. Pro mě je o hodně důležitější, že mě baví nové splitko poslouchat, že se k němu rád vracím. A to si prosím v tomto stylu opravdu hodně vybírám a jen tak něco se mi nelíbí. 

INSISTENT jsou skvělí v tom,  že je jejich grindcore temný a ošklivý, v určitých momentech s až death metalovým nádechem. Pokud máte rádi třeba takové NAPALM DEATH, NASUM, BIRDFLESH, jste tu správně. Tohle jsou zkušení muzikanti, kteří přesně vědí, jak zabíjet hudbou. Jsou to šelmy na lovu, které když vás potkají, tak vás roztrhají na kusy. V jejich muzice je vztek, frustrace i šílenství. A tak si zase jednou říkám, že kdyby se lidé uklidnili u jejich skladeb a nechodili do nenávistného davu, bylo by nám všem o hodně lépe. Pánové se nebojí i lehce zvolnit, dodat technické pasáže, nechat vyniknout to, co jim jde nejlépe. Masivní tlak, nahrubo nasekanou tmu, totální masakr! Za mě hodnotím velmi vysoko a jejich část si opravdu užívám! Grindcore jízda přímo do pekla! 


FEASTEM jsou neurvalí, více punkoví. Také více potichu, ale to je jenom drobnost. Zmínit to ale musím, protože když split posloucháte v kuse, tak dojde při změně kapely i ke zvukovému skoku. Vše je víc zastřené, pokryté plesnivými pavučinami. Je to divoký tanec na ostrých čepelích čerstvě nabroušených nožů. Schválně si někdy zkuste pustit večerní zprávy a k tomu FEASTEM a uvidíte, jak na vás bude působit hudba doslova podmanivě. Finové se s ničím také moc nepářou, jdou přímo na věc. Nekompromisně, bez zbytečností. Je to rána sekyrou přímo do lebky. Také slyšíte, jak vám praskají kosti? Já ano, zavřený ve starém sklepě, zařazuji tohle splitko mezi nejhranější tento měsíc. Pokaždé, když potřebuji vyčistit hlavu a štve mě současný svět, pomáhá mi přežít. Agrese, blast beaty, totální divoká rvačka s vlastním svědomím. To jsou FEASTEM. 


Máte rádi grindcore? Myslím tím opravdu rádi? Potom je pro vás letošní split doslova povinností. Jasně, obě kapely nepřinášejí nic nového, neobjevují, ani nejsou ničím "progresivní". Jenže o to tady nejde. Slyším a cítím, že obě smečky do toho šly srdcem. Věřím jim každý tón, každou notu. A to pro mě bude vždy důležitější, než satan jaká dokonalost. Grindcore vám má nakopat zadky, měli byste být po poslechu rozervaní. A to já prosím pěkně jsem. Nezbývá, než oběma kapelám poděkovat za jejich hudbu a přidat znovu hlasitost. Venku mrzne a v ulicích se toulají divné stíny. Oči upřené do obrazovek, cítím z nich nenávist. Všichni se sešli v šíleném davu a mají ústa plná prázdných slov a vzteku. Strach už z nich dávno nemám. Pustil bych jim do ksichtu tohle skvělé splitko! Totálně temný grindcore, ohlodaný až na kost!

It was freezing outside and strange shadows were wandering the streets. Eyes fixed on the screens, I could feel the hatred. They were all gathered in a maddened crowd, their mouths full of empty words and anger. Fear was coming from them. They were looking for the weakest piece, the next victim. Looting, violence and endless pain. I turned off the TV and the internet and hid in the basement. A few meters underground, in the dark and cold. Frustration and despair had to come out. I turn on the hi-fi tower and put in the player the new split of Czech INSISTENT and Finnish FEASTEM. Just the first few notes and the bands grab me by the hair and wipe the floor with me. If grindcore, then please in this version. There is no world around me, there are no shadows in the streets. It's just me and the music.

I'm not going to go into detail about each song here, nor will I go into the production and execution. Both packs are so experienced that it's not even necessary. Formally, everything is in the best order. For me, it is much more important that I enjoy listening to the new split, that I like coming back to it. And please, I really choose a lot in this style and just don't like anything.

INSISTENT are great at making their grindcore dark and nasty, with a death metal edge at certain points. If you like the likes of NAPALM DEATH, NASUM, BIRDFLESH, you've come to the right place. These are experienced musicians who know exactly how to kill with music. They're beasts on the prowl that will tear you apart when they meet you. There's anger, frustration and madness in their music. So once again, I think if people would calm down to their songs and not go into a hateful crowd, we'd all be a lot better off. The gentlemen aren't afraid to slow things down a bit, to add technical passages, to let what they do best shine through. Massive pressure, coarsely chopped darkness, total carnage! For me I rate very highly and I really enjoy their part! Grindcore ride straight to hell!


FEASTEM are more uncouth, more punk. Also more quiet, but that's just a small thing. I have to mention it though, because if you listen to the split all the time, there is a sonic jump when the band changes. Everything is more obscured, covered in mouldy cobwebs. It's a wild dance on the sharp blades of freshly sharpened knives. Try the evening news and FEASTEM sometime and see how the music literally captivates you. The Finns don't mess with anything too much either, they get straight to the point. Uncompromisingly, no frills. It's a hatchet blow straight to the skull. Can you hear your bones cracking too? I do, locked in an old basement, I'm putting this split in the top ten most played this month. Every time I need to clear my head and get annoyed with the world, it helps me survive. The aggression, the blast beats, the all-out savage brawl with your own conscience. These are FEASTEM.


Do you like grindcore? I mean really like it? Then this year's split is literally a must for you. Sure, both bands don't bring anything new, they don't reinvent, nor are they "progressive" in any way. But that's not the point. I can hear and feel that both packs have put their hearts into it. I believe every note, every note. And that will always be more important to me than satanic perfection. Grindcore is supposed to kick your ass, you should be torn apart after listening to it. And I'm pretty sure I am. I can't help but thank both bands for their music and turn the volume back up. It's freezing outside and there are strange shadows wandering the streets. Už dávno nevíš, co je pravda a co lež. Surfuješ na vlnách falešných informací a věříš už jenom tomu, čemu chceš. Potřebuješ další dávku, další násilí, další sex. Zabíjíš z nudy, adrenalinu je tolik málo. Pokřivený svět, zombie, toulající se ulicemi. Ovládáni na dálku, čím větší hloupost, tím větší úspěch. Už dávno vím, že nepatřím do téhle doby. Smířil jsem se s tím. Znovu a znovu za sebou zavírám ocelové dveře a poslouchám už jenom hudbu, která se mi líbí. MALEDICTION se vrátili. Po dlouhých letech v podzemí jsou zpět a vypadá to, že silnější než kdy dřív.

Pamětníkům nemusím nic vysvětlovat, ale pro vás mladší si dovolím pár poznámek. Historie kapely se začala psát v devadesátých letech minulého století. Již tenkrát se jednalo o syrový a drsný death metal s krvavou příměsí grindcore. Zkrátka a jednoduše, stará dobrá britská škola v té nejlepší podobě. Pokud tedy máte chuť na trošku té kruté reality, tak zahoďte všechny obrazovky a poslouchejte pořádně nahlas. 


MALEDICTION vždy uměli nalézt ty nejslabší a nejcitlivější místa a na ty zaútočit. Už v devadesátých letech se mi na nich vždy líbilo, že dokázali kombinovat chladnou a temnou atmosféru s touhou nakopat všem zadky. Daří se jim to i letos, na novém EP "The Soil Throne". Tohle není žádný umělý produkt, se současnou nudnou produkcí. Naopak! Všechno řeže tou správnou stranou nože. Mám pocit, že stojím po kolena v ledové kaluži plné zkažené krve a kapela mi hází syrové maso přímo do obličeje. Jasně, jsem taky starý prašivý pes a můj úsudek je ovlivněn určitě i tím, že jsem fanoušek kapely, ale přátelé - tady se hraje od srdce, pro všechny věrné. Není to ale jenom skvělé řemeslo, které pánové odvedli. Už jenom ten zvuk, obal, celkové provedení. Všechno sedí na svých místech. Jenže tihle maniaci přidávají ještě něco navíc, kus sebe samých. Určitě to znáte. Člověk se ráno probudí, bolí ho hlava a má velmi špatnou náladu. Všechny ty reklamy kolem, lidé s falešnými úsměvy, dav v ulicích, tupé kecy politiků. Doporučuji nasadit sluchátka, přidat volume doprava a uvidíte, že vaše duše bude najednou čistá jako hladina horského jezera. Znáte to, všude kolem chodí kdysi krásné dívky, plné plastu a umělých úsměvů. Já budu mít raději vždycky přirozenost, ryzost a opravdovost. S hudbou těchto maniaků to mám podobně. Věřím jim každý tón, každou notu. Hergot brácho, letos se nové EP fakt povedlo! Tohle je masakr přesně podle mého gusta. Totálně devastující, syrový death grind, který vám vystřelí mozek z hlavy! Smečka starých prašivých psů, která vás roztrhá na kusy!

You don't know what's true and what's false anymore. You surf the waves of false information and believe only what you want. You need another dose, more violence, more sex. You kill out of boredom, adrenaline is so scarce. A twisted world, zombies roaming the streets. Controlled from a distance, the greater the stupidity, the greater the success. I've known for a long time that I don't belong in this era. I've made my peace with it. Time and time again I close the steel door behind me and listen only to music I like. MALEDICTION are back. After many years underground they are back and it seems stronger than ever.

I don't have to explain anything to the old-timers, but for you younger ones I'll allow myself a few remarks. The history of the band began in the 1990s. Even then it was raw and harsh death metal with a bloody grindcore admixture. In short, good old British school at its best. So if you're in the mood for a bit of that harsh reality, drop all the screens and listen properly loud.


MALEDICTION have always been able to find the weakest and most sensitive points and attack them. What I always liked about them back in the nineties was that they could combine a cool and dark atmosphere with a desire to kick everyone's ass. They manage to do it again this year, on their new EP "The Soil Throne". This is no artificial product, with contemporary boring production. On the contrary! It cuts everything with the right side of the knife. I feel like I'm knee deep in an icy pool of rotten blood, and the band is throwing raw meat right in my face. Sure, I'm a mangy old dog too, and my judgement is certainly influenced by being a fan of the band, but friends - this is where the heart is played, for all the faithful. But it's not just great craftsmanship that the gentlemen have done. Just the sound, the packaging, the overall execution. Everything fits in place. But these maniacs add something extra, a piece of themselves. I'm sure you know that. You wake up in the morning with a headache and a very bad mood. All those advertisements around, people with fake smiles, crowds in the streets, politicians talking dumb shit. I recommend you put on your headphones, turn the volume to the right and you will see that your soul will suddenly be as clear as the surface of a mountain lake. You know, once beautiful girls walking around, full of plastic and artificial smiles. I'll always prefer to be natural, pure and real. I feel the same way about the music of these maniacs. I trust them with every note, every note. Damn, bro, the new EP this year was a real success! This one is a massacre, just like my taste. Totally devastating, raw death grind that will blow your brains out! A pack of old mangy dogs that will tear you apart!

Když se začaly v okolí ztrácet mladé ženy, nikdo si toho dlouho nevšímal. Žily totiž na okraji společnosti a nikoho nezajímaly. Když nemáš moc ani peníze, neexistuješ. Kdyby si lidé nezačali stěžovat na hrozný zápach, který z nedaleké farmy vycházel, nic by se nestalo. Jenže takhle jsme museli jít dovnitř. A to co jsme spatřili, nám vyrazilo dech. Na hácích byly rozvěšeny kusy shnilého masa. Z klecí byl slyšet nářek a strach. Pach smrti byl cítit úplně všude. Lidská kafilerie. Hnus a špína. Vyběhl jsem ven a následovalo další peklo. Hromady kostí a mezi nimi řezník, který se usmíval. Držel v ruce velkou sekyru. 

To jen abyste se naladili stejným stylem,  jako polská death grindová kapela PUTRID EVIL. Ti přicházejí letos se svým debutem. Je to masakr od začátku do konce. Od riffů stříká krev, pod bicími pukají lebky a vokál je nasáklý chorobami. Máte rádi metalový mlýn na shnilé maso? Tak potom jste zde správně. 


Ruka, která kouká z hrobu, je sevřená v pěst. Stejně jako na parádním černobílém obalu. Autorem je Teufelwerk a jedná se opravdu o povedený motiv. To samé musím napsat i o zvuku, který drtí a pálí, ničí a ochlazuje. Přesně takhle to mám moc rád. Pánové se volně inspirovali u kapel jako GENERAL SURGERY, MUMAKIL, NASUM, NAPALM DEATH, TERRORIZER, GADGET, LOCK UP, BRUTAL TRUTH, PHOBIA, CARCASS. To ale není zase tolik důležité. Hlavní je, že mě baví novinku poslouchat, důležité je, že si vždy na ní zatančím vždy rád na vašich hrobech. PUTRID EVIL jsou nekompromisní a s ničím se moc nepářou. Je to tak dobře. Když se drtí staré lebky, tak se to musí dělat od srdce, opravdově a s nadšením. Líbí se mi opravdovost, ryzost a upřímnost, se kterou se nás Poláci snaží rozsekat na malé kousky. Zůstává po nich pokaždé krvavá šmouha a já nemohu jinak, než se rád a často k nahrávce vracet. Platí zde více než kde jinde - je lepší popíjet pivo ve společnosti této desky, než o ní psát. Tohle je muzika, která se má hrát naživo, v zaplivaných, špinavých klubech. Tohle je setkání v temné uličce se smečkou rozzuřených prašivých psů. Útočí klasicky, tradičně. Ale dělají to velmi zkušeně a nakonec vás roztrhají na kusy. Až zase příště půjdu navštívit místo, kde se stalo něco zlého, vezmu si "Exhumed... From the Unhallowed Ground" určitě s sebou. Lidská kafilerie. Hnus a špína. Absolutně devastující death grindová drtička prašivých kostí!

When young women started disappearing in the area, no one noticed for a long time. They lived on the fringes of society and were of no interest to anyone. If you don't have power or money, you don't exist. If people had started complaining about the terrible smell coming from the nearby farm, nothing would have happened. But this way we had to go in. And what we saw took our breath away. There were pieces of rotten meat hanging from hooks. There was wailing and fear coming from the cages. The smell of death was everywhere. A human rendering plant. Filth and filth. I ran out and more hell ensued. Piles of bones and a butcher smiling among them. He was holding a big axe. 

This is just to get you in the mood, like Polish death grind band PUTRID EVIL. They're coming out with their debut this year. It's a massacre from start to finish. Blood spurts from the riffs, skulls crack under the drums and the vocals are soaked with disease. Do you like the rotten meat metal mill? Then you've come to the right place.


The hand that looks out of the grave is clenched in a fist. Just like the gorgeous black and white cover. The author is Teufelwerk and it is a really nice motif. I must say the same about the sound, which crushes and burns, destroys and cools. That's exactly how I like it. The gentlemen have taken inspiration from bands like GENERAL SURGERY, MUMAKIL, NASUM, NAPALM DEATH, TERRORIZER, GADGET, LOCK UP, BRUTAL TRUTH, PHOBIA, CARCASS. But that's not so important. The important thing is that I enjoy listening to the new stuff, the important thing is that I'll always be happy to dance on your graves to it. PUTRID EVIL are uncompromising and don't mess with anything too much. It's that good. When you crush old skulls, it has to be done from the heart, genuinely and with passion. I like the genuineness, the sincerity and the honesty with which the Poles try to chop us into small pieces. They leave a bloody smear every time and I can't help but return to the recording often and gladly. It applies here more than anywhere else - it's better to drink beer in the company of this record than to write about it. This is music that should be played live, in seedy, dirty clubs. This is an encounter in a dark alley with a pack of rabid mangy dogs. They attack in the classic, traditional way. But they do it very expertly, and eventually they'll tear you apart. Next time I go to a place where something bad has happened, I'll take "Exhumed... From the Unhallowed Ground" with me. Human rendering plant. Filth and scum. Absolutely devastating death grind of mangy bones!

Ave GOATBURNER! Greetings to the Finnish underground. Before we look at your album, I have to thank you. I first heard the news "Fatal" once on Friday, when I left totally upset from work. You know, everything fell on me. The people around me seemed dumb and stupid. I had a hundred appetites to put the speakers against them and put your music out loud. You made an album which breaks bones! How and where did you want to move against the previous album "Extreme Conditions"? The new album seems rawer, wilder to me.

Happy to help haha… I suppose we just wanted to move forward with bit more tempo, less sludge and more tempo changes. Probably our touring has also made some difference to how we play together. Just cool to hear, that it worked out since we are pretty happy with the result too. These new songs are also really fun to play live.

Not to forget, could you please introduce your band to us? Honest fans of death metal and grind probably know you, but for others. Please guide us through the history of GOATBURNER? How did you get together and why did you choose this style of music?

We started on 2017 to create a touring band to fill the schedules when our other bands are not able to go out. Spider is also a freelancer and plays in bunch of other bands like me, but usually other members have trouble with getting time off from work and/or families. We both like death metal very much and have also some history with dm bands (me with Vomiturition, Spider is still doing Skulmagot), so it felt good to have that as our corner stone for music. I wanted to use my amps and pedals from doomier Morbid Evils and that low tuning to have bit more dirty sound than more technical dm-bands. We also wanted to remain as duo also live, which made me play through 2 gtr amps and one bass amp (with octaver) to match the studio sound.


Let's get to the news. Probably everyone who discovers some new music, even I put a lot on the cover, they say the cover sells. Who did the cover art for the new “Fatal” album? It's a very interesting, morbid collage!

Spider painted the cover, which also became one of the lyrics (Pool of Blood) and part of it is in the Danger- EP, which we recorded in the same session. So, since I recorded and mixed the album, we are even more DIY than on the debut. My good friend Scott Hull from Pig Destroyer did great job with keeping the master dirty and mean.

As I mentioned, the songs literally crush my bones. Sound contributes a lot to that. It's dirty, raw, reminiscent of a bulldozer in office in a cemetery. Tell us where you recorded, who is signed to mastering and mixing? I always remember listening to old CARCASS, AUTOPSY, MORTICIAN. Did you plan to sound "similar"?

Whoops, answered that already partially. We rented a big room for drum and live gtr recording from Turku where I live. I wanted to have enough space for drums and guitar to blend in the room mics. After that I did some more guitar tracking at my own rehearsal room / studio (Chaotic Doom Cave Studios) and finally added vocals in the same place. I did think about asking someone else to mix, but when I had done Danger EP already from same session, it felt more natural to do it myself. We didn't plan to sound similar to anything, but just wanted to sound like what we want to sound live. Guitars are dubbed, but even "bass" is this time recorded with guitar & octaver, which is my live rig. Very nice to hear those references since all of them are killer!


What are the lyrics at "Fatal" about? Is it a death grind classic - graves, bones, skulls, cemeteries? Or are you trying to convey something with them - a message? Who is the author?

There's nine grim stories about fatal domestic accidents, with pretty graphical detail. Danger is an intro, leading to intro of Pool of Blood. I can open up that one: someone cleans a swimming pool, slips, falls and hits the head and gets pierced by the cleaning rod. The song ends with drowning and bleeding to death.

My favourite question and I think readers too. How do GOATBURNER create new songs? Who is the author of the basic motifs? Is everything created in the rehearsal room? I would be interested in the process of composing new songs.

That's a good one actually. On first album, I did all the riffs as song demos, which we then finalized together with Spider. They did change quite a bit sometimes and I never wanted to do drum programming, but let the drummer do his own thing with them. Anyway, that was "Extreme Conditions" except for Scorched and Blown Away, which we wrote and recorded in studio. Now, on this new album, some songs were done in a similar way, but more than half were based on riffing sessions we had together. Basically both of us we playing guitar and throwing ideas at rehearsal place and then we just recorded the individual riffs to work on. I usually did the guitars on the song at home later on and finally we finished the song structure with drums. Pool of Blood and Morbid Angle were done in a different way though: basically jamming and writing as we played. Danger was again written in studio and recorded right after. And then, there's Dismemberment, which I finalized from riffing sessions and Spider did drum arrangements on his own alone. The songs were done during fairly long time, but somehow we ended up using quite similar themes in the songs (which I didn't even notice until later), which ties the album together pretty well IMO. As for lyrics and vocals, all of them were done later on when I recorded them. We will probably change that next time and create also vox before entering studio.


One thing bothers me a little. You're from Finland and I'm watching your scene in pretty close detail. Most young underground death metal bands play very darkly, coldly and at the same time their music has a certain melancholy in it. For me, it's a hallmark of Finnish bands (at least that's how I perceive it). But you are completely different! Raw, uncompromising. Your colleagues INFERIA used to play at our festival and they had a very similar feeling. Do you feel music differently? Did you have other patterns?

I don't know how come we don't sound that Finnish… probably because both of us have grown up with American and UK (and Swedish) DM. Also, since I'm in Morbid Evils with more doom and melancholy, it feels better to have something more raw for Goatburner, but be still different from Rotten Sound, Ratface or Skulmagot.

Everyone somehow started, learned, discovered. GOATBURNER are a band of experienced musicians. But what were your beginnings? What was the first impulse to pick up an instrument, what bands did you listen to as a young man?

I started as singer and did some guitar playing too for Vomiturition, which spawned Rotten Sound, where I've done only vocals. There has been also other bands like Medeia (vox) and Age of Woe (guitar), but currently Morbid Evils, RS and GB are the active bands I'm and all tour too. Spider has been in Ratface, Skulmagot, Bloodlands and M.O.R.A., but I really know his history that well.


You have released your second album on the excellent Time to Kill Records. Great choice! The novelty came out as a cassette, CD and digitally. But what about vinyl? What is your relationship to music media? Are you a collector? Do you support bands?

There is a vinyl available too, actually through TTK. Personally I don't collect anymore, because I travel too much and noticed that every move is quite heavy. So, I ended up selling my collection some years ago, which sounds heretic. I do miss listening to vinyls at times, but like said, moves are easier and since most of stuff is available online and in my phone too, I'm not totally bummed.

I'm always interested in what the underground is like in the country where the band comes from. How are Finland and death metal? Do people go to concerts a lot? Do they buy albums, merchandise? How can you describe concert in Finland, for example, which you consider very successful?

We have very vital new wave of Finnish DM now, also with young bands instead of us old farts. Bands like Galvanizer and Morbific are already quite international, but there a lot more bubbling under, like Cryptic Hatred, Ashen Tomb, Mädätys, Azatoth, Unholy Rites and more and more.

What about you and the concerts? How important are they to you? Do you enjoy big festivals or small clubs? What about some tour? For example, Obscene Extreme would be an ideal festival for you!

We like all concerts a lot actually and have played OEF last year already. Touring is always the best and that time we were doing 2 weeks around OEF. Right now we are getting ready to go to Brazil for 3 weeks with NervoChaos, Test and Sodoma, which is the first tour with Fatal and we also work on doing an extensive Finnish tour & long European run early next year.

 

By the end... let me one slightly philosophical question. What does music mean to you? How would you define death metal, grindcore. Is it a relaxation or lifestyle for you?

Music is my life style, touring, writing, listening, playing. I would not be the same person without this.

Please tell us what GOATBURNER are planning in the coming months?

So, the Brazilian tour is coming, then Finland and Europe and probably another European tour in autumn around some festivals we will play. I also hope we manage get something in Asia and Australia/NZ for next year. One important thing though is to start to write the next album, because it will again take some time to finish and release. We want to keep this machine running and evolving.
