Odsekávám maso od kostí a kolem mě je sníh a led. Exhumace starých prašivých hrobů uprostřed kruté zimy má sice svoje nepopiratelné morbidní kouzlo, ale je to těžká hrobnická práce. Odnesu rakev raději do nedaleké temné márnice a znovu zapnu play na svém přehrávači. Dnes si rvu pod tlakem do hlavy nové album švédských maniaků HARROWED. Tahle smečka moc dobře ví, jak svojí hudbou zhmotnit dlouhé noci v nekonečných chodbách Hádovy říše.

Hraje se tu, jak také jinak, starý švédský death metal, ušpiněný punkem, crustem i nahrubo nasekaným thrashem. Oba pánové jsou zkušení muzikanti (Adam Lindmark (ex- Morbus Chron, Tobias Alpadie - VAK, DEAD LORD), kteří moc dobře ví, jak nahrát album, které se mi dostane do žil i do podvědomí. Mě tedy nezbývá nic jiného, než odložit pivo na víko od plesnivé rakve a vzít znovu do rukou sekyru. Noc je ještě dlouhá a jedinou mou společností je hudba a nekonečný tanec nemrtvých. 


Hudba je zde postavena na pevných základech, které kdysi dávno položily kapely typu ENTOMBED (ano, logo je také velmi podobné), ENTRAILS, NIHILIST, DISMEMBER (nověji potom BASTARD PRIEST, DEATH BREATH), zazní ale i odkazy na starou poctivou americkou školu AUTOPSY, MASTER, REPULSION, SLAUGHTER. Výsledný koktejl je potom nejen velmi divoký, nespoutaný, ostrý a nekompromisní, ale nezapomíná se ani na chladnou a temnou atmosféru. Pro lepší pochopení celé nahrávky vám opravdu doporučuji následovat mé kroky, které jsem tak vkusně popsal v úvodu dnešní recenze. Album těchto maniaků vynikne nejlépe v nekonečných katakombách, v dávno opuštěných kobkách nebo na starodávných pohřebištích. Nová nahrávka švédských bardů má potom v sobě něco zvláštního, morbidně přitažlivého, shnilého a mokvajícího, co vždy odlišovalo dobré kapely od těch ostatních. Pánové jsou totiž opravdoví, ryzí, uvěřitelní a autentičtí. Jasně, nepřinášejí nic nového, ani převratného, ale to po nich ani nikdo nechce. Nenechte se ale mýlit, novinka "The Eternal Hunger" není ale jen dobře odvedeným řemeslem. Naopak, skladby v sobě mají něco navíc, něco, co se mi pokaždé zadře hluboko pod kůži i do vnitřností. Hodně k tomu přispívá surový, chladný a masivní zvuk, pod kterým je podepsán Robert Pehrsson. V tomto případě lze napsat snad jen jediné - skvělá práce!  O motivu na obalu (Robin Banks) netřeba také diskutovat, je stylový a hodí se k hudbě jako k mrtvému dobře vyrobená rakev. HARROWED nám předkládají ty nejděsivější noční můry, hnus a špínu, se kterými se setkáte, až jednou vaše nebohé tělo roztrhají vlci. Je něco shnilého, prašivého, co mě neustále láká se do kobky s názvem téhle kapely se vracet. Možná to jsou i mé hudební základy, které jsem také čerpal na konci osmdesátých a počátku devadesátých minulého století. Odsekávám maso od kostí a kolem mě je sníh a led. Morbidní, prašivý a shnilý death metal z těch nejtemnějších katakomb! Album, u kterého lezou z rakví nemrtví!

I chop meat off bones surrounded by snow and ice. Exhuming old, mangy graves in the middle of a harsh winter has its undeniable morbid charm, but it's hard grave-digging work. I'd rather take the coffin to a nearby dark morgue and press play on my player again. Today, I'm listening to the new album by Swedish maniacs HARROWED. This band knows very well how to use their music to bring to life the long nights in the endless corridors of Hades' realm.

They play, how else, old Swedish death metal, dirty with punk, crust, and roughly chopped thrash. Both gentlemen are experienced musicians (Adam Lindmark (ex-Morbus Chron, Tobias Alpadie - VAK, DEAD LORD) who know very well how to record an album that gets into my veins and subconscious. So I have no choice but to put my beer down on the lid of a moldy coffin and pick up my axe again. The night is still long, and my only company is music and the endless dance of the undead. 


The music here is built on solid foundations laid long ago by bands such as ENTOMBED (yes, the logo is also very similar), ENTRAILS, NIHILIST, DISMEMBER (and more recently BASTARD PRIEST and DEATH BREATH), but there are also references to the old American school of AUTOPSY, MASTER, REPULSION, and SLAUGHTER. The resulting cocktail is not only very wild, unrestrained, sharp, and uncompromising, but it also doesn't forget to create a cold and dark atmosphere. For a better understanding of the entire recording, I really recommend following my steps, which I so tastefully described in the introduction to today's review. The album by these maniacs stands out best in endless catacombs, long-abandoned dungeons, or ancient burial grounds. The new recording by these Swedish bards has something special, morbidly attractive, rotten, and oozing, which has always distinguished good bands from the rest. These gentlemen are genuine, pure, believable, and authentic. Sure, they don't bring anything new or revolutionary, but no one expects that from them. Make no mistake, however, the new album "The Eternal Hunger" is not just a job well done. On the contrary, the songs have something extra, something that gets under my skin and into my guts every time. The raw, cold, and massive sound, courtesy of Robert Pehrsson, contributes greatly to this. In this case, there is only one thing to say—great job! There's no need to discuss the cover art (Robin Banks) either; it's stylish and fits the music like a well-made coffin fits a dead body. HARROWED presents us with the most terrifying nightmares, filth, and grime you'll encounter when your poor body is torn apart by wolves. There is something rotten and mangy that constantly tempts me to return to the dungeon named after this band. Perhaps it is also my musical roots, which I drew on in the late 1980s and early 1990s. I chop flesh from bones, surrounded by snow and ice. Exhuming old mangy graves in the middle of a harsh winter has its undeniable morbid charm, but it's hard grave-digging work. Still, I enjoy it immensely, just like this album. Morbid, mangy, and rotten death metal from the darkest catacombs! An album that makes the undead crawl out of their coffins!

Všechno uteklo tak rychle. Občas se potřebuji zastavit. Nadechnout se a nechat čas, aby kolem mě jen tak plynul. Zavzpomínat na kamarády, co tu již nejsou s námi. Na ty, se kterými jsme kdysi dávno sedávali nekonečné hodiny u reproduktorů a diskutovali o nových nahrávkách. Svět se za tu dobu neskutečně změnil a my jsme zůstali. Stále uctíváme stejné hodnoty. Máme rádi kapely, které hrají srdcem a hudbu, která nám již navěky bude kolovat v žilách. Stojím na hřbitově ve svém rodném městě a poslouchám nové EP švédských tmářů INTERNAL DECAY.

Ano, mí milí přátelé ze záhrobí, tahle kapela byla založena kdysi dávno v roce 1991 a prošla si zajímavým vývojem. Hrávala pod jménem Misery thrash metal, aby se nakonec našla v melodickém death metalu načichlém chladem a naprostou tmou. Když před vámi zmíním jména jako Therion, Epitaph, Deformity, Pandemonic, Stormrider, A Canorous Quintet a Serpentine, tak asi nemusím dodávat nic dalšího. Jedná se o zkušené muzikanty, kteří se vrátili, aby nám zvěstovali další ozvěny z onoho světa. 


Seděl jsem na lavičce v parku, který navazuje na hřbitov a hlavou mi létala velká spousta myšlenek. Najednou jsem nebyl šedivý pán v letech, ale zase mladý kluk a hltal jsem nové skladby takovým způsobem, že jsem zapomínal, co se děje kolem mě. Mám rád, když jsou v death metalu patrné chladné melodie, líbí se mi, když jsou skladby nasáklé melancholií dalekého severu. Rozmlouvám s mrtvými, vyprávím jim, jak nové EP "Fires of the Forgotten" zní, jaký má skvělý mrazivý, masivní a velmi dobře čitelný zvuk, jak jsou jednotlivé motivy velmi dobře napsány, jak se s chutí dívám na obal. Dal bych si s vámi pivo, ale nejde to, možná časem, až jednou také zmizím v krvavé mlze. Zatím znovu zapínám play a užívám si pasáže plné temnoty a beznaděje. Měli jste rádi kapely jako MY DYING BRIDE, PARADISE LOST, SENTENCED, DRACONIAN, AMORPHIS, ANATHEMA  a stále jsou častými hosty ve vašem přehrávači? Potom neváhejte, tohle EP je plné zajímavých melodií, ostrých riffů, neotřelých pasáží a pochmurné atmosféry. Jako bych stál na vysoké hoře a díval se do hlubiny. Vznáším se na jednotlivých melodicích, padám a roztříštěn na tisíc kousků znovu a znovu vstávám z popela. Čím jsem starší, tím víc si vážím podobných nahrávek, které jsou opravdové, ryzí, autentické, ve kterých je kus srdce a talentu. Loučím se s kamarády, kteří leží v kamenných hrobech. Tak zase někdy, až na mě bude všechno padat, přijdu vás navštívit. Nové EP INTERNAL DECAY si vezmu určitě zase s sebou, mrzne u něj totiž krev v žilách. Melodický death metal nasáklý pochmurnou atmosférou, melancholií, smutkem a beznadějí! Doporučuji všem pravověrným i démonům!

Those with whom we used to sit for endless hours by the speakers, discussing new recordings. The world has changed incredibly during that time, and we have remained. We still worship the same values. We love bands that play with their hearts and music that will forever flow through our veins. I am standing in the cemetery in my hometown listening to the new EP by Swedish dark metal band INTERNAL DECAY.

Yes, my dear friends from beyond the grave, this band was founded way back in 1991 and has undergone an interesting evolution. They used to play thrash metal under the name Misery, only to eventually find themselves in melodic death metal steeped in coldness and utter darkness. When I mention names like Therion, Epitaph, Deformity, Pandemonic, Stormrider, A Canorous Quintet, and Serpentine, I probably don't need to add anything else. These are experienced musicians who have returned to bring us more echoes from that world. 


I was sitting on a bench in a park next to a cemetery, my head filled with a multitude of thoughts. Suddenly, I was no longer a gray-haired old man, but a young boy again, devouring new songs so intensely that I forgot what was going on around me. I like it when cold melodies are evident in death metal, I like it when songs are steeped in the melancholy of the far north. I talk to the dead, telling them how the new EP "Fires of the Forgotten" sounds, how it has a great frosty, massive, and very clear sound, how the individual motifs are very well written, how I enjoy looking at the cover. I'd have a beer with you, but I can't, maybe someday, when I too disappear into the bloody mist. For now, I press play again and enjoy the passages full of darkness and despair. Did you like bands like MY DYING BRIDE, PARADISE LOST, SENTENCED, DRACONIAN, AMORPHIS, ANATHEMA, and are they still frequent guests in your player? Then don't hesitate, this EP is full of interesting melodies, sharp riffs, original passages, and a gloomy atmosphere. It's as if I were standing on a high mountain and looking into the depths. I float on individual melodies, fall and shatter into a thousand pieces, and rise from the ashes again and again. The older I get, the more I appreciate recordings like this, which are real, pure, authentic, and contain a piece of heart and talent. I say goodbye to my friends who lie in stone graves. So, sometime, when everything is falling apart for me, I'll come visit you. I'll definitely take the new EP INTERNAL DECAY with me again, because it makes my blood run cold. Melodic death metal steeped in a gloomy atmosphere, melancholy, sadness, and despair! I recommend it to all true believers and demons!

Tělo ve značném stádiu rozkladu. Shnilé a prašivé. Zbytky látky opředené pevnými pavučinami. Zpuchřelá rakev, kdysi vyrobená z toho nejkvalitnějšího dřeva. Jak si zemřel a jak si žil, ptám se do ticha temné kobky. Smrt má mnoho podob a musel si zemřít hodně krutě. Dosud máš ve vnitřnostech zabodnutý rezavý nůž a vypadá to, že tě kdysi dávno pohřbili zaživa. Pomalu sundávám víko, modlím se k temnotě a dívám se do tvé tváře. Vzduchem se vznáší pach hniloby. Červi se kroutí v divokých rytmech. Držíš v sepnutých rukou nové album švédských maniaků PAGANIZER.

Pánové přicházejí po roce s další porcí pravého, ryzího, uvěřitelného a autentického severského death metalu. Jedná se samozřejmě o hudbu, která nám je všem notoricky známá, přesto nová, neotřelá a morbidně zajímavá. Kývám se do rytmu a vzývám síly, které nejsou z tohoto světa. Rogga a jeho ostré riffy, dunivé bicí, řev raněné šelmy, tohle všechno připomíná děsivé ozvěny ze záhrobí. PAGANIZER jsou opět ve skvělé formě!


Tohle je hudba, která je určena hlavně pro fanoušky kapely i švédského death metalu všeobecně. Abyste rozeznali jednotlivé nuance a zajímavé momenty, tak jste museli být kdysi dávno v devadesátých letech prokleti a museli jste sbírat kazety takových kapel jako VOMITORY, ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, DESULTORY, EDGE OF SANITY, GRAVE, GOD MACABRE. Myslím, že potom oceníte tyhle staré bardy nejvíce. Novinka je dalším zásekem v řadě, který se velmi dobře poslouchá, rád se k němu vracím a pokaždé objevuji další a další pasáže, které se mi postupně dostávají do žil. "As Mankind Rots" je nahrávkou pro všechny hrobníky, pro ty, kteří rádi a často tráví svůj čas ve stínu. Skladby v sobě mají potřebnou dávku tlaku a energie, z některých mrazí, jiné se vám zase zatlučou do mozku jako rezavé hřeby. Neznám poslední roky nic lepšího, než přijít domů z práce, zapomenout na dnešní podivný svět a zapnout znovu play na svém přehrávači. Nutno rovnou dodat, že PAGANIZER budou ještě dlouho na jednom z prvních míst letošního roku. Tihle severští démoni se totiž přesně trefili nejen do mého vkusu, ale také rovnou do srdce. Znáte to, jsem starý pes, který zvedá hlavu už jen v případě, když ho nějaké album opravdu baví. Jako takový jsem spokojen. Kapela za ty dlouhé roky vybrousila svůj styl k dokonalosti. Umí být surová, divoká, nespoutaná, ale i chladná jako ruka čerstvě exhumované mrtvoly. Tělo ve značném stádiu rozkladu. Shnilé a prašivé. Zbytky látky opředené pevnými pavučinami. Zpuchřelá rakev, kdysi vyrobená z toho nejkvalitnějšího dřeva. Jak si zemřel a jak si žil, ptám se do ticha temné kobky. Smrt má mnoho podob a tu kterou nám předkládají PAGANIZER považuji opět za velmi mrtvolně přitažlivou. Surový a chladný death metal ze severu, který je ukovaný z té nejkvalitnější oceli! Tohle album se vám dostane až do morku kostí!

The body is in an advanced state of decomposition. Rotten and mangy. Remnants of fabric entwined with sturdy cobwebs. A decayed coffin, once made of the finest wood. How did you die and how did you live, I ask into the silence of the dark dungeon. Death takes many forms, and yours must have been very cruel. You still have a rusty knife stuck in your guts, and it looks like you were buried alive a long time ago. I slowly remove the lid, pray to the darkness, and look into your face. The smell of decay hangs in the air. Worms writhe in wild rhythms. You hold the new album by Swedish maniacs PAGANIZER in your clenched hands.

The gentlemen return after a year with another dose of true, pure, credible, and authentic Nordic death metal. This is, of course, music that is well known to all of us, yet new, original, and morbidly interesting. I sway to the rhythm and invoke forces that are not of this world. Rogga and his sharp riffs, rumbling drums, the roar of a wounded beast—all of this is reminiscent of terrifying echoes from beyond the grave. PAGANIZER are in great shape again!


This music is mainly intended for fans of the band and Swedish death metal in general. To recognize the individual nuances and interesting moments, you had to be cursed back in the nineties and collect cassettes by bands such as VOMITORY, ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, DESULTORY, EDGE OF SANITY, GRAVE, and GOD MACABRE. I think you will appreciate these old bards the most. The new album is another notch in the series that is very easy to listen to. I like to come back to it and each time I discover more and more passages that gradually get under my skin. "As Mankind Rots" is a recording for all gravediggers, for those who like to spend their time in the shadows. The songs have the necessary dose of pressure and energy, some of them send chills down your spine, others hammer themselves into your brain like rusty nails. In recent years, I can't think of anything better than coming home from work, forgetting about today's strange world, and pressing play on my player again. It must be said right away that PAGANIZER will remain at the top of this year's list for a long time to come. These northern demons have not only hit the spot with my taste, but also straight to my heart. You know, I'm an old dog who only raises his head when he really enjoys an album. As such, I am satisfied. Over the years, the band has honed its style to perfection. They can be raw, wild, unrestrained, but also cold as the hand of a freshly exhumed corpse. A body in an advanced state of decomposition. Rotten and mangy. Remnants of fabric entwined with sturdy cobwebs. A decayed coffin, once made of the finest wood. How did you die and how did you live, I ask into the silence of the dark dungeon. Death has many forms, and the one presented to us by PAGANIZER is, once again, very corpse-like and attractive. Raw and cold death metal from the north, forged from the highest quality steel! This album will get under your skin!

Teď už to vím, teď jsem si s tím již absolutně jistý. Dlouhé roky přecházím mezi naším a oním světem, ukrývám se ve stínu, nasávám pach tlejících těl. Jsem raději s nemrtvými, u těch aspoň vím, co od nich mohu očekávat. Živí, chodící po naší zničené zemi, jsou mnohdy zrůdami, zlými démony, kteří rádi působí bolest. Ukrývám se proto spíše ve starých katakombách a poslouchám death metal starý jako prašivé kobky. Je tu nové album švédských THOSE WHO BRING THE TORTURE.

Rogga Johansson má stále dobrou formu. Některé jeho projekty a kapely mi již trošku splývají v jeden celek, ale co se týká novinky "Miscreant World", tak jsem spokojen. U téhle smečky je pro mě osobně velmi zajímavá nálada, podmanivě chladná atmosféra, které jejich alba obsahují vždy v míře vrchovaté. Spokojený jsem tentokrát opět já, i všichni mí démoni. 


Někdy mi bývá smutno, jindy jsem zase zhnusený z toho, čeho jsou lidé jako rod schopní. Mám pocit, že na mě všechno padá a nikdo mi nerozumí. Otevírám raději rezavé dveře do márnice a trávím v ní dlouhé noci beze snů. Mrtví mi šeptají své příběhy a z reproduktorů zní stále dokola nové album "Miscreant World". Je v něm obsaženo vlastně všechno, co potřebuji a je mi úplně jedno, že jsme to už někde dávno stokrát slyšeli. Jako celek na mě novinka tak nějak automaticky funguje. Moc dobře vím, že se nejedná o nic převratného, ani zásadního, ale v závěru si nové album opravdu od srdce užívám. Hrozně se mi líbí, že si kapela na nic nehraje. Skladby působí uvěřitelně, opravdově, autenticky a odkapává z nich zkažená krev. Mám zase jednou pocit, že někdo stojí ve stínu, sleduje mě a tak nějak divně se usmívá. Má v očích oheň i nenávist. Hrozně bych se ho chtěl zeptat, jestli mě jednou zabije, ale místo toho raději znovu a znovu zapínám play na svém přehrávači. Mám zkrátka slabost pro hororovou atmosféru. Pro dobré riffy, pro mrazivé melodie, pro zabijácké bicí i vokál bestie. Tohle všechno zde naleznete. Hudba je opět zabalena ve velmi slušném, typickém severském zvuku (H. Stuvemark) a novinka odsýpá jako lavina z kamení, lebek a prašivých kostí. Platí zde více, než kde jinde, berte a nebo nechte být. Za celý minulý týden jsem potkal takovou spoustu divných lidí, že jsem se do kobky s nápisem THOSE WHO BRING THE TORTURE opět hrozně těšil. A zklamaný rozhodně nejsem. Naopak, tohle album řeže tou správnou stranou nože. Mrazivé death metalové melodie ze starých pohřebišť, které probudí i vaše vlastní démony! Hroby byly znovu otevřeny!

Now I know, now I am absolutely certain. For many years, I have been wandering between our world and the other world, hiding in the shadows, breathing in the smell of decaying bodies. I prefer to be with the undead; at least with them, I know what to expect. The living, walking around our destroyed land, are often monsters, evil demons who enjoy causing pain. That's why I hide in old catacombs and listen to death metal as old as the dusty dungeons. There's a new album by the Swedish band THOSE WHO BRING THE TORTURE.

Rogga Johansson is still in good shape. Some of his projects and bands are starting to blend together a bit for me, but as far as the new album "Miscreant World" is concerned, I'm satisfied. For me personally, this band has a very interesting mood, a captivatingly cold atmosphere, which their albums always contain in abundance. Once again, I am satisfied, and so are all my demons. 

Sometimes I feel sad, other times I am disgusted by what people are capable of. I feel like everything is falling apart and no one understands me. I prefer to open the rusty door to the morgue and spend long, dreamless nights there. The dead whisper their stories to me, and the new album "Miscreant World" plays over and over again from the speakers. It contains everything I need, and I don't care that we've heard it a hundred times before. As a whole, the new album just works for me. I know very well that it's nothing groundbreaking or groundbreaking, but in the end, I really enjoy the new album from the bottom of my heart. I really like that the band doesn't pretend to be anything they're not. The songs come across as believable, genuine, authentic, and dripping with rotten blood. Once again, I have the feeling that someone is standing in the shadows, watching me and smiling strangely. There is fire and hatred in their eyes. I would love to ask him if he will kill me one day, but instead I just keep pressing play on my player over and over again. I simply have a weakness for horror atmospheres. For good riffs, chilling melodies, killer drums, and beastly vocals. You will find all of this here. The music is once again wrapped in a very decent, typical Nordic sound (H. Moje kroky mě nakonec vždy zavedou do starých katakomb. Jako bych byl již dlouhé roky prokletý. Sedávám ve stínu, nasávám pach rozkládajících se těl, sleduji zástupy pozůstalých, marně hledajících včerejší den. Vzpomínky na bolest. Vždycky jsem měl rád temnou a chladnou hudbu, která má v sobě energii a tlak. Tentokrát jsem nastavil směr znovu na sever. Do mého oblíbeného Švédska. Do kostí se mi pomalu dostával chlad a objevil jsem si pro sebe další z kapel, které dál táhnou káru starého prašivého old school death metalu.

KATAKOMBA jsou ze Stockholmu a přinášejí nám letos již své druhé řadové album. O tom minulém, stejnojmenném, z roku 2022, jsem také psal. Pokud máte zájem, odkaz na recenzi je dole pod dnešním článkem. Pánové volně navazují tam, kde minule přestali. Na starých severských pohřebištích. 


"The Second Death" je velmi povedeným stylovým počinem. Pokud jste měli vždycky rádi kapely typu ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, NIHILIST, ENTRAILS, INTERMENT, zpěváky jako Martina von Drunena nebo LG Petrova, zvuk načichlý plesnivinou a reálnou smrtí, potom jste zde správně. Podobných smeček je sice dnes na každém rohu mnoho, ale jen některým se povede u mě zažehnout pověstnou jiskru. KATAKOMBA hrají přesvědčivě, opravdově, reálně, surově, autenticky. Nevymýšlejí sice nic nového, ani nevnášejí do záhrobí progresi, ale to zde není ani účelem. Viděl bych to velmi jednoduše. Nezbývá, než si otevřít pivo a s chutí jej odložit na víko od rakve. Zapnout play a nechat HM-2 pedal, aby vám vypálil do hlavy díru. Osobně jsem velmi spokojený a rád se k novému albu vracím. Důvody se samy nabízejí. Jednak jsem na podobné hudbě vyrůstal, ale hlavně z ní cítím takový ten opravdový smradlavý odér. Tohle je syrová exhumace starého hrobu. Velmi brzo ráno, když ještě zombie nešly spát. Dohraje několik skladeb, vy otáčíte v rukou obal (Jens Olsson) a kýváte u toho spokojeně hlavou do rytmu. Užíváte si morbidně podmanivý zvuk (Fabian Brodén - producer, recording, mixing, Lawrence Mackrory - mastering) a tak nějak podvědomě víte, že sem patříte. Mezi nakloněné náhrobky, do márnice. Za mě, za starého psa, vám mohu nové album jenom doporučit. Moje kroky mě nakonec vždy zavedou do starých katakomb. Jako bych byl již dlouhé roky prokletý. I've always liked dark and cold music that has energy and pressure in it. This time, I set my course north again. To my favorite Sweden. "The Second Death" is a very successful and stylish work. If you've always liked bands such as ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, NIHILIST, ENTRAILS, INTERMENT, singers such as Martin von Drunen or LG Petrov, and a sound reeking of mold and real death, then you've come to the right place. There are many similar bands around today, but only a few manage to ignite that proverbial spark in me. KATAKOMBA play convincingly, genuinely, realistically, rawly, authentically. They don't invent anything new, nor do they bring progression to the afterlife, but that's not the point here. I would see it very simply. All that's left to do is open a beer and eagerly set it down on the coffin lid. Press play and let the HM-2 pedal blow a hole in your head. Personally, I am very satisfied and enjoy returning to the new album. The reasons are obvious. On the one hand, I grew up with similar music, but mainly I can smell that real stench coming from it. This is a raw exhumation of an old grave. Very early in the morning, when the zombies haven't gone to sleep yet. A few songs play, you turn the cover (Jens Olsson) in your hands and nod your head contentedly to the rhythm. You enjoy the morbidly captivating sound (Fabian Brodén - producer, recording, mixing, Lawrence Mackrory - mastering) and somehow subconsciously know that you belong here. Among the tilted tombstones, into the morgue. As for me, an old dog, I can only recommend the new album. My steps always lead me to the old catacombs in the end. Už dopředu jsem cítil takový ten ošklivý a zlý, plíživý chlad, který se dostává do mých kostí pokaždé, když sestoupím dolů do podzemí. Otevírám pomalu rezavou bránu porostlou břečťanem. Po zdech stéká hnis a pod nohama mi křupe něco nechutného. Hudba pro mě vždy byla, je a bude osobním, niterným zážitkem. Jsem jako starý archivář, prašivý pes, který vyhledává ty nejchutnější kousky shnilého masa. Tentokrát jsem navštívil kobku s nápisem ELDFÖDD nad vchodem.

Hlavním autorem skladeb je zde Sebastian Ramstedt (NECROPHOBIC, IN APHELION, ORDO INFERUS), který se spojil s dalšími tmáři z kapel jako jsou GENERAL SURGERY, MOONDARK, NOMINON, DARKENED. Je vám tedy jasné, že o kvalitu bude postaráno. Je tomu vskutku tak, EP má masivní, dobře čitelný a prašivý zvuk, obal je také zajímavý. Hlavní je ale jako vždy hudba. A ta je vynikající. Postavená na severských základech, ušpiněná black metalem a zkaženou krví. Tohle je přesně odrůda death metalu, kterou chci, aby jednou hráli i na mém pohřbu. 


Za skladeb je cítit chlad, takové to surové chvění, temnota a touha zabíjet ostrými riffy, dunivými bicími a vokálem bestie. Vše tu sedí tak nějak přirozeně, uvěřitelně, autenticky na svých místech. Sebastian Ramstedt má navíc svůj jasný a zřetelný rukopis a talent. Pokud jste na tom jako já a rádi a často za sebou zavíráte dveře do sklepa, abyste se odstřihli od současného podivného světa a s chutí se necháte unášet na špinavé řece smrti, potom jste zde správně. Navíc, v současné záplavě různých retro smeček, snažících se marně vyjádřit ducha dávných časů, přicházejí ELDFÖDD s nahrávkou, která je svým způsobem originální. Jasně, občas vyplavou na povrch vlivy třeba takových ENTOMBED nebo AUTOPSY, ale jinak je tahle smečka zabijácká ze své podstaty. Dostali jsme sice jenom čtyři nové skladby, raději bych rovnou celé dlouhohrající album, ale i tak na mě songy působí jako rezavé hřeby, které jednou budou zatlučeny i do mé rakve. Určitě znáte ten pocit, když přijdete domů, zapnete play na svém přehrávači a čekáte, co přijde. Do krve se vám postupně dostane velké množství energie, máte chuť bouchat do stolu pěstí a cítíte takový ten těžko definovatelný drive a sílu. Švédská smrtící šlechta tohle všechno umí a přidává i spoustu dalších věcí navíc. Jako bych byl stržen do laviny, padal po zádech do hlubin, roztříštil se na tisíc kousků, abych nakonec vstal z popela, silnější než kdy dřív. Vážení přátelé temnoty, sešli jsme se zde, abychom uctili opravdové démony. ELDFÖDD nelze jinak, než doporučit. Takhle nějak by to mělo vypadat. Už dopředu jsem cítil takový ten ošklivý a zlý, plíživý chlad, který se dostává do mých kostí pokaždé, když sestoupím dolů do podzemí. Otevírám pomalu rezavou bránu porostlou břečťanem. The songs exude coldness, a raw tremor, darkness, and a desire to kill with sharp riffs, thundering drums, and beastly vocals. Everything fits together naturally, believably, authentically. Sebastian Ramstedt also has his own clear and distinct style and talent. If you are like me and like to close the door to the basement behind you to cut yourself off from the strange world of today and let yourself be carried away on the dirty river of death, then you've come to the right place. Moreover, in the current flood of various retro bands trying in vain to express the spirit of times gone by, ELDFÖDD come with a recording that is original in its own way. Sure, influences from bands like ENTOMBED or AUTOPSY sometimes surface, but otherwise this band is killer in its essence. We only got four new songs, I'd rather have a full-length album, but even so, the songs strike me like rusty nails that will one day be hammered into my coffin. You surely know the feeling when you come home, turn on your player and wait to see what comes next. A huge amount of energy gradually enters your bloodstream, you feel like banging your fist on the table, and you feel that hard-to-define drive and strength. The Swedish death metal aristocracy can do all this and much more. It's as if I were swept away by an avalanche, falling backwards into the depths, shattering into a thousand pieces, only to rise from the ashes stronger than ever. Dear friends of darkness, we have gathered here to honor the true demons. ELDFÖDD can only be recommended. This is how it should be. Probuzen uprostřed noci znovu připíjím všem svým démonům. Sešli jsme se na místním hřbitově. Máme tu spoustu piva i veselé nálady. Odkládáme sklenice na víka od rakví. Chybí nám jen jediné. Dobrý death metal. Chvilku hledám ve svém archívu a potom řeknu jediné. CENTINEX. Všichni nemrtví kývají souhlasně hlavou. To je přesně ono, tohle jsme potřebovali. Nad hřbitovem se vznáší mlha a celý současný podivný svět nám může být ukradený.

Tohle je přesně ten druh severského smrtícího kovu, který si na nic nehraje. Provedeno, prosím pěkně, od srdce, opravdově, uvěřitelně. Jsou nám jedno připomínky vážných kritiků, kterým ještě teče mléko po bradě. Máme to v prdeli, my se chceme bavit. Vypít nějaké to pivo, sem tam exhumovat prašivý hrob a nechat si zmrznout krev v žilách. Pánové jsou ve velmi dobré formě. To vám mohu, jako starý prašivý pes garantovat a klidně i podepsat vlastní krví. 


Pánové patří mezi švédskou death metalovou šlechtu. Každé nové album, letošní nevyjímaje, je toho jasným důkazem. Kladem je tu důraz na dobrý zvuk (Johan Hjelm - recording, mastering, mixing), který je masivní, náležitě čitelný. Za zajímavý a stylový považuji i motiv na obalu (Chainsaw Design). Připíjím na zdraví všem prokletým a nové album "With Guts and Glory" si neskutečně užívám. Líbí se mi takový ten death´n´rollový odkaz, touha ničit hudbou. Někdo možná namítnete, že tu už všechno dávno bylo. No a co? Vždyť zrovna tahle smečka táhne valník plný prašivých kostí už od roku 1990. Pánové dávno nemusí nikomu nic dokazovat a je to znát. Novinka je velmi svěží, zajímavou nahrávkou, je z ní cítit radost pro poslední věci člověka. Skladby v sobě mají drive a potřebnou sílu. Takový ten tlak, který vás nutí se zvednout, bouchnout pěstí do zdi a jít rozdrtit nějaké ty staré kosti. U téhle nahrávky potkáte přízraky, vrátí se vám děsivé představy a začnete se bát světla. Jedná se o smrtící kov, postavený na pevných vlastních základech a zároveň svým způsobem originální. CENTINEX měli vždy vlastní výraz, ksicht chcete-li. Platí to i letos. Už teď se těším na nějaký z dalších koncertů, které bývají vždy parádními obřady pro vyvolávání duší zemřelých. Piv už mám v sobě opravdu dost, motám se a je mi to tak nějak jedno. Jdu k reproduktorům, znovu přidávám hlasitost a ukazuji fuck off všem debilům. Tady, mezi nemrtvými, je mi stejně nejlépe. Víc nechci, ani nepotřebuji. Pokud na tom jste stejně, potom doporučuji příjemný poslech. Sejdeme se v katakombách! Old school swedish death metal ohlodaný až na kost! Album, u kterého praskají víka od rakví!

Waking up in the middle of the night, I raise my glass once again to all my demons. We gather at the local cemetery. We have plenty of beer and we're in high spirits. We put our glasses on the lids of the coffins. There's only one thing missing. Good death metal. I search my archives for a moment and then say one thing. CENTINEX. All the undead nod their heads in agreement. That's exactly what we needed. Fog hangs over the cemetery, and we couldn't care less about the strange world around us.

This is exactly the kind of Nordic death metal that doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. Done, please, from the heart, genuinely, believably. We don't care about the comments of serious critics who still have milk running down their chins. We don't give a fuck, we want to have fun. Drink some beer, exhume a mangy grave here and there, and let the blood freeze in our veins. The gentlemen are in very good shape. As an old mangy dog, I can guarantee that and even sign it with my own blood. 


These guys are among the Swedish death metal elite. Every new album, including this year's, is clear proof of that. One positive aspect is the emphasis on good sound (Johan Hjelm - recording, mastering, mixing), which is massive and properly clear. I also find the cover art (Chainsaw Design) interesting and stylish. I raise my glass to all the damned and I am thoroughly enjoying the new album "With Guts and Glory". I like the death'n'roll reference, the desire to destroy with music. Some of you may argue that it's all been done before. So what? This particular pack has been hauling a truckload of rotten bones since 1990. These gentlemen no longer have anything to prove to anyone, and it shows. The new album is very fresh and interesting, and you can feel the joy of living life to the fullest. The songs have drive and the necessary power. The kind of pressure that makes you want to get up, punch the wall, and go crush some old bones. With this recording, you will encounter ghosts, frightening images will return, and you will begin to fear the light. It's a deadly metal, built on solid foundations and original in its own way. CENTINEX have always had their own expression, their own face, if you will. That's still true this year. I'm already looking forward to some of their other concerts, which are always spectacular ceremonies for summoning the souls of the dead. I've had enough beer, I'm staggering around and I don't really care. I go to the speakers, turn up the volume again, and give the finger to all the idiots. Here, among the undead, I feel best. I don't want or need anything more. If you feel the same way, then I recommend a pleasant listen. See you in the catacombs! Old school Swedish death metal gnawed to the bone! Propadnout se pod hladinu ledové vody horského jezera a nechat led, aby nade mnou zhasl světlo, Jsem v jiném světě, plném starodávných pověstí, legend o hrdinství, zradě, o bolesti, o utrpení. Do kostí se mi pomalu dostává chlad a všemi póry celého těla vnímám temnotu a zlo. Je tu nové album legendárních UNLEASHED. Jedné z kapel, které poslouchám celý svůj hudební život. Rovnou dodávám, že má slova budou jako vždy velmi ovlivněna tím, že jsem fanoušek.

Opět mi stačilo několik společných setkání, abych propadl sněhovému peklu. Švédský death metal s jasným, originálním a výrazným rukopisem, temné a chladné melodie, atmosféra severských plání. Jasný koncept, výrazné motivy, tohle všechno jsou základní poznávací znaky těchto matadorů. Letošní album je logickým pokračováním věcí minulých. Pánové nevymýšlejí nic nového, spíše nadále k dokonalosti vybrušují svůj originální styl. Daří se jím to na výbornou. Ostatně jako vždycky. 


Švédi jsou na scéně od roku 1989. Mají na svém kontě nepřeberné množství tu lepších, jindy trošku slabších nahrávek. Nikdy ale neklesli pod určitou laťku kvality, kterou mám nastavenou ve své hlavě. I letos přistupují k hudbě s nadšením, zkušenostmi a elegancí mistrů v oboru. Na novince najdeme jak chlad, tolik známý ze severských sněhových bouří, tak i zuřivost pradávných bitev. UNLEASHED patřili, patří a dle mého vždy budou patřit mezi kapely, které vždy dokáží předat velké množství emocí. Ani "Fire upon Your Lands" mě nenechává v klidu. Vracím se k němu v brzkých ranních hodinách, kdy se ulicemi ještě procházejí stíny, o víkendu, kdy se vydávám na nekonečné toulky po lesích, i v noci, když mě probudí noční můry. A pokaždé z alba cítím velkou porci takové té poctivé síly, touhy ničit hudbou i jakousi melancholii, která je jasným poznávacím znakem kapely již dlouhé roky. Příběhy, které nám pánové vyprávějí, jsou zajímavé a rozhodně stojí za pozornost i bližší prozkoumání. Opravdoví fanoušci to určitě udělají. Myslím si ale, že UNLEASHED jsou rozhodně smečkou, která dovede oslovit i širší publikum. Možná je to díky jejich melodiím, zpěvnosti, jakési zvláštní přitažlivosti, opravdovosti, autenticitě. Ne, už dávno nejsem ve svém pokoji. Jsem ve své mysli vysoko v horách a čekám na démony, až si pro mě přijdou. Svádím divoké bitvy, užívám si jednotlivé pasáže, nasávám ledový vítr ze severu. Stal jsem se součástí muziky, jenom já a riffy, vokál, bicí, jenom já a pustina vysoko v horách. Propadnout se pod hladinu ledové vody horského jezera a nechat led, aby nade mnou zhasl světlo, Jsem v jiném světě, plném starodávných pověstí, legend o hrdinství, zradě, o bolesti, o utrpení. Do kostí se mi pomalu dostává chlad a všemi póry celého těla vnímám temnotu a zlo. Ve starých bitvách ukovaný chladný a temný severský death metal! Vikingské hymny, zpívané po zuřivých bojích!

Sinking beneath the surface of the icy water of a mountain lake and letting the ice extinguish the light above me, I am in another world, full of ancient tales, legends of heroism, betrayal, pain, and suffering. The cold slowly creeps into my bones, and I feel darkness and evil through every pore of my body. Here is the new album from the legendary UNLEASHED. One of the bands I've been listening to my entire musical life. I'll add right away that my words will, as always, be heavily influenced by the fact that I'm a fan.

Once again, it only took a few encounters for me to fall into snowy hell. Swedish death metal with a clear, original, and distinctive style, dark and cold melodies, the atmosphere of the Nordic plains. A clear concept, distinctive motifs - these are the basic hallmarks of these matadors. This year's album is a logical continuation of previous works. The gentlemen are not inventing anything new, but rather continuing to refine their original style to perfection. They are doing an excellent job of it. As always, in fact.


The Swedes have been on the scene since 1989. They have released countless recordings, some better, some weaker. However, they have never fallen below a certain standard of quality that I have set in my mind. This year, they approach music with the enthusiasm, experience, and elegance of masters in their field. On their new album, we find both the coldness so familiar from Nordic snowstorms and the fury of ancient battles. UNLEASHED belonged, belong, and in my opinion will always belong among the bands that are able to convey a great deal of emotion. Even "Fire upon Your Lands" does not leave me indifferent. I return to it in the early hours of the morning, when shadows still walk the streets, on weekends, when I set out on endless wanderings through the woods, and at night, when nightmares wake me up. And every time, I feel a great deal of honest power, a desire to destroy with music, and a kind of melancholy that has been a clear hallmark of the band for many years. The stories these gentlemen tell us are interesting and definitely worth paying attention to and exploring further. True fans will certainly do so. But I think UNLEASHED are definitely a band that can appeal to a wider audience. Maybe it's because of their melodies, their singability, a certain special appeal, their sincerity, their authenticity. No, I am no longer in my room. In my mind, I am high up in the mountains, waiting for the demons to come for me. I fight fierce battles, enjoy individual passages, and breathe in the icy wind from the north. I have become part of the music, just me and the riffs, vocals, drums, just me and the wilderness high up in the mountains. Sinking beneath the surface of the icy water of a mountain lake and letting the ice extinguish the light above me, I am in another world, full of ancient tales, legends of heroism, betrayal, pain, and suffering. The cold slowly creeps into my bones, and I feel darkness and evil through every pore of my body. Cold and dark Nordic death metal forged in ancient battles! Viking hymns sung after fierce battles!
