Už zase umírají lidé v zákopech. Mohli pracovat, milovat se, smát se a tancovat. Místo toho jsou drceni po desítkách, po tisících, pod pásy tanků. Smrt má zase jednou odstín černé a neskutečně bolí. Říká se, že si člověk časem zvykne na všechno, ale není to pravda. Myslel jsem si, věřil jsem, že lidský rod se poučí ze svých chyb, z hnusné historie, ale není tomu tak. Stále pochodují mladí muži a ženy na smrt. Kvůli rozmarům mocných, kvůli lžím, kvůli území. Možná právě proto mám slabost pro válečný death metal, který bývá, když je dobře zahraný a napsaný, mementem, upozorněním na to, čeho jsme my lidé, schopni.

Stefan Lang je jediným členem německé kapely TIGER BATTALION, který je podepsán pod veškerou muzikou i texty. Jedná se o děsivé ozvěny přímo z bojiště. Nové, v pořadí již druhé dlouhohrající album "Global Assault", je uvěřitelné, ryzí, opravdové, autentické. Myslím si, že je nutné si stále válečná utrpení připomínat, koneckonců události posledních let má slova jenom potvrzují. 


Téma války je s death metalem spojeno od počátků tohoto stylu. Německou kapelu tak můžeme s klidem zařadit po bok takových kapel, jako jsou BOLT THROWER, MEMORIAM, HAIL OF BULLETS, ASPHYX, DECAYING, DEATH KOMMANDER, SHRAPNEL STORM, TRENCHANT, ASCHENVATER. Je to právě chladná a nekonečně temná atmosféra, která vás ihned vtáhne do děje, která mě přesvědčila o tom, abych se nahrávce více věnoval a napsal o ní pár slov. U mě je to vlastně jednoduché, hudba mě musí bavit, musím se k ní rád vracet a musí ve mě probudit nějaké představy a emoce. Tohle všechno se TIGER BATTALION povedlo na výbornou. Byl jsem při poslechu opravdu na bojišti, umíral jsem v zákopech a bolelo mě to ještě dlouho po smrti. Vedle mě ležela zohavená těla mých kamarádů a všechno se mi míchalo dohromady se záběry z večerních zpráv. Jakoby na svět opravdu padl velký černý mrak. Stefan Lang se sice ve svých textech věnuje hlavně Druhé světové válce, tankovým bitvám a čerpá z historie, jenže když ona je válka pořád stejně hnusná a nenávistná. Stále v ní umírají lidé. Jenom technologie zabíjení se změnily a zdokonalily. Na konci je vždy ale i dnes hnusná, ošklivá a zcela zbytečná smrt. Troufám si tvrdit, že album "Global Assault" by měli mít ve své sbírce všichni, kteří jsou naplno oddáni tomuto stylu. Zmínit ještě musím, že novinka má opravdu povedený, dobře čitelný a masivní zvuk a o motivu na obalu také netřeba diskutovat, k předkládané hudbě sedne jako k mrtvému rakev. Už zase umírají lidé v zákopech. Mohli pracovat, milovat se, smát se a tancovat. Místo toho jsou drceni po desítkách, po tisících, pod pásy tanků. Smrt má zase jednou odstín černé a neskutečně bolí. Děsivé, temné a chladné zprávy z death metalového bojiště! Album, ukované z té nejkvalitnější oceli!

People are dying in the trenches again. They could have been working, making love, laughing, and dancing. Instead, they are being crushed by the dozens, by the thousands, under the tracks of tanks. Death has once again taken on a shade of black, and it hurts unbearably. They say that over time, a person gets used to everything, but that’s not true. I thought, I believed, that humanity would learn from its mistakes, from its ugly history, but that is not the case. Young men and women are still marching to their deaths. Because of the whims of the powerful, because of lies, because of territory. Perhaps that is precisely why I have a soft spot for war death metal, which, when well-played and well-written, serves as a memento, a warning of what we humans are capable of.

Stefan Lang is the sole member of the German band TIGER BATTALION, responsible for all the music and lyrics. These are terrifying echoes straight from the battlefield. Their new album, their second full-length release, "Global Assault", is believable, genuine, real, and authentic. I believe it is necessary to constantly remind ourselves of the horrors of war; after all, the events of recent years only confirm my words. 


The theme of war has been associated with death metal since the genre’s inception. We can thus confidently place this German band alongside such acts as BOLT THROWER, MEMORIAM, HAIL OF BULLETS, ASPHYX, DECAYING, DEATH KOMMANDER, SHRAPNEL STORM, TRENCHANT, and ASCHENVATER. It is precisely this cold and infinitely dark atmosphere, which immediately draws you into the story, that convinced me to give the album more attention and write a few words about it. For me, it’s actually simple: the music has to entertain me, I have to enjoy coming back to it, and it has to awaken certain images and emotions within me. TIGER BATTALION succeeded brilliantly in all of this. While listening, I was truly on the battlefield; I was dying in the trenches, and it hurt long after my death. The mutilated bodies of my friends lay beside me, and everything blended together with footage from the evening news. It was as if a great black cloud had truly fallen upon the world. While Stefan Lang’s lyrics focus mainly on World War II and tank battles, drawing on history, the fact remains that war is still just as vile and hateful. People are still dying in it. Only the technology of killing has changed and become more sophisticated. But in the end, even today, there is always a vile, ugly, and completely pointless death. I dare say that the album "Global Assault" should be in the collection of everyone who is fully devoted to this style. I must also mention that the new release has a truly well-crafted, clear, and massive sound, and there’s no need to debate the cover art—it fits the music like a glove. People are dying in the trenches again. They could have been working, making love, laughing, and dancing. Instead, they are being crushed by the dozens, by the thousands, under the tracks of tanks. Death once again takes on a shade of black and hurts incredibly. Terrifying, dark, and cold news from the death metal battlefield! An album forged from the highest-quality steel!

Historii je nutné neustále připomínat, protože lidstvo opakovaně dokazuje, že je nepoučitelné. Válečná témata patří k death metalu odjakživa. Záleží vždy, jak je kapely uchopí. Němečtí ASCHENVATER již svým debutovým albem dokázali, že jim můžete jejich práci věřit. O nahrávce jsem psal, máme i krátký rozhovor. Letošní novinka je potom jejím volným pokračováním. Jedná se pouze o tři chladné a temné skladby, o jakousi ochutnávku další desky, která by měla brzy následovat.

Zemřít na frontě můžete mnoha způsoby. Mění se jenom technologie, jak můžete někoho zabít. Záleží vždy na strategii, na síle a také na štěstí. Pokud lze tedy zabíjení lidí označit za štěstí. Nicméně, opět mi stačilo jen několik poslechů a hned jsem věděl, že tohle EP budu mít usazené v hlavě ještě hodně dlouho. Tři skladby, tři ostré nábojnice, které mi proletěly hlavou. Padl jsem na chladnou zem a stal se součástí dalšího dílu Warhammer 40k.


Stále se pohybujeme mezi stejnými mantinely, mezi kterými byli a jsou kapely jako BOLT THROWER, ASPHYX, HAIL OF BULLETS, BODYFARM, GOREFEST, MEMORIAM, DECAYING, DEATH KOMMANDER, SCALPTURE, CHAINSWORD, JUST BEFORE DAWN, SHRAPNEL STORM. Potácím se v zákopech a kolem mě leží spousta mých kamarádů. Ještě před několika dny se smáli, měli spoustu plánů a naději. Ta zemřela ve vzteku a nenávisti. Roztrháni na kusy připomínají loutky, bledé a rudé figuríny. Kde jsou jejich duše? Ptám se stále dokola a kolem mě hoří země. Zajímavé, kolik ve mě dokáže probudit hudba představ, kam jsou schopné se zatoulat moje myšlenky. Umí to ale jenom dobré kapely, mezi které ASCHENVATER samozřejmě patří. Smrt je zase jednou blízko, dívám se do její rozšklebené tváře. Moje fantazie je rozdrásaná do krve, umírám a znovu se rodím, jsem vojákem nicoty posílaným do různých válek. Někdy se jen tak procházím po hřbitově. Jména, napsaná na náhrobcích hoří do tmy. Chtěli by se pomstít, vstát z hrobů a žalovat za zmařené životy. Zvuk, obal, vše považuji za velmi povedené. Tohle EP má opravdu podmanivou a strhující atmosféru. Jedná se přesně o hudbu, kterou rád poslouchám, když jsem sám. Soustředím se na jednotlivé nuance a užívám si chlad a temnotu. Jsem obyčejným vojákem pochodujícím na smrt. Svírám v rukou zbraň a jsem připraven zemřít. Nebo ne? Jednotka vojáků temnoty znovu útočí! Death metalová válka představená s krutou, mrazivou elegancí!

History needs to be constantly reminded, because humanity has repeatedly shown that it is unteachable. War themes have always belonged to death metal. It always depends on how the bands handle them. German ASCHENVATER have already proven with their debut album that you can trust their work. I wrote about the record, we have a short interview. This year's new release is then a free continuation of it. It is only three cold and dark tracks, a kind of a taste of the next record that should follow soon.

You can die on the front in many ways. The only thing that changes is the technology of how you can kill someone. It always depends on strategy, on strength and also on luck. If killing people can be considered lucky. However, again, it only took me a few listens and I knew right away that this EP would be stuck in my head for a long time. Three tracks, three sharp bullets that flew through my head. I fell to the cold ground and became part of the next installment of Warhammer 40k.


We are still moving between the same boundaries that bands such as BOLT THROWER, ASPHYX, HAIL OF BULLETS, BODYFARM, GOREFEST, MEMORIAM, DECAYING, DEATH KOMMANDER, SCALPTURE, CHAINSWORD, JUST BEFORE DAWN, SHRAPNEL STORM were and are still moving between. I'm staggering in the trenches and a lot of my friends are lying around me. Just a few days ago they were laughing, with lots of plans and hope. It died in anger and hatred. Torn to pieces, they resemble puppets, pale and red mannequins. Where are their souls? I ask again and again, and the earth burns around me. It's interesting how much the music of imagination can awaken in me, where my thoughts are able to wander. But only good bands can do that, of course ASCHENVATER is one of them. Death is near once again, I look into its grinning face. My imagination is torn to blood, I die and am reborn, a soldier of nothingness sent to different wars. Sometimes I just walk through the cemetery. The names written on the tombstones burn in the darkness. They want to take revenge, to rise from their graves and sue for the lives that were lost. The sound, the cover, I think it's all very good. This EP has a really captivating and haunting atmosphere. This is exactly the kind of music I like to listen to when I'm alone. I focus on the nuances and enjoy the coldness and darkness. I'm just an ordinary soldier marching to his death. I'm clutching my weapon, ready to die. Or is it? The Soldiers of Darkness are attacking again! Death metal warfare presented with cruel, freezing elegance!

V ulicích jsou další mrtvá těla. Nemáme je kde pohřbít a tak je spalujeme. Černé plameny olizují další a další mrtvoly. Někdy zaslechneme nářek. Možná ještě trošku žijí. Objevily se první případy kanibalismu. Už je to nějakou dobu, co nás napadl nepřítel. Útočí každý den. Snaží se dobýt naše město. Jenže my jsme silní. Hladoví, unavení smrtí, ale stále silní. Nic jiného nám nezbývá. Tyhle domy jsou postaveny na kostech našich otců. Nakonec vyhrajeme nebo zemřeme. A pomůže nám k tomu i válečný death metal, který hrají vynikající představitelé tohoto stylu z Polska. 

CHAINSWORD mají dar zabíjet hudbou. A dělají to velmi elegantně a zkušeně. Hezky reálně, postaru, jak to mám nejraději. Jedná se o druhé dlouhohrající album kapely, které je volným pokračováním předchozího vynikající záseku "Blightmarch" (recenze a rozhovor jsou odkazovány dole pod článkem). Každý riff je jako prásknutí z děla, každý úder bicích bombovým útokem. 


Pánové se inspirovali šílenstvím a utrpením válek a také dystopickým vesmírem hry Warhammer 40k. Po jejich skladbách zůstává jenom spoušť. Některé songy připomínají nikdy nekončící pochod na smrt, jiné kobercové bombardování. Určitě jste někdy v posledních letech viděli obrázky měst, která kdysi byla plná života a krásy v porovnání s tím, co s nimi udělaly výbuchy. Vždycky si na tohle album vzpomenu. Pro mě je vždy velmi důležité, jaký mám z hudby dojem, jestli se mi dostane do hlavy a zda se k ní rád vracím. CHAINSWORD se povedlo mě zcela zničit. Byl jsem chvílemi opravdu vojákem, obsazujícím další ulici, byl jsem obráncem, toulajícím se mrtvolnými ulicemi. Fanoušci třeba takových DEATH KOMMANDER, SHRAPNEL STORM, DECAYING, JUST BEFORE DAWN, SCALPTURE, MEMORIAM budou určitě nadšení jako já. Ze skladeb odkapává zkažená krev, jako z bodáku na tvé zbrani. Několikrát se ukryjete před střelbou, ale nakonec vás stejně dostanou. Do kostí se vám vkrade strach a nekonečný chlad. Nic už nebude takové jako dřív. Po generace se v lidech usadí nenávist za křivdy, za bolest. Je to tak, nová deska se povedla na výbornou. Pokud vás zajímá téma válek a máte rádi poctivé řemeslo s přidanou hodnotou navíc, tak neváhejte ani chvilku. Jedná se o hodně povedenou záležitost. V ulicích jsou další mrtvá těla. Nemáme je kde pohřbít a tak je spalujeme. Černé plameny olizují další a další mrtvoly. Snaží se dobýt naše město. Jenže my jsme silní. Hladoví, unavení smrtí, ale stále silní. Nic jiného nám nezbývá. Tyhle domy jsou postaveny na kostech našich otců. Válečný, dystopický death metalový tank, který rozdrtí vše živé i neživé! Po téhle nahrávce zůstává jenom spálená země!

There are more dead bodies in the streets. We have no place to bury them, so we burn them. Black flames lick up more and more corpses. Sometimes we hear a cry. Maybe they're still alive a little bit. The first cases of cannibalism have appeared. It's been a while since the enemy attacked us. They attack every day. He's trying to take over our town. But we are strong. Hungry, tired of dying, but still strong. We have no choice. These houses are built on the bones of our fathers. In the end, we win or we die. And the war death metal, played by the excellent representatives of this style from Poland, will help us to do it. 

CHAINSWORD have the gift of killing with music. And they do it very elegantly and skilfully. Realistic, old-fashioned, as I like it best. This is the band's second full-length album, a loose continuation of the previous excellent hit "Blightmarch" (review and interview linked at the bottom of the article). Every riff is like a cannon blast, every drum hit a bombshell.


The gentlemen were inspired by the madness and suffering of wars and the dystopian universe of Warhammer 40k. All that is left of their songs is havoc. Some songs are reminiscent of a never-ending death march, others of carpet bombing. I'm sure you've seen pictures of cities in recent years that were once full of life and beauty compared to what the explosions have done to them. I always think of this album. For me, it's always very important how I feel about the music, whether it gets into my head and whether I like coming back to it. CHAINSWORD managed to completely destroy me. At times I was really a soldier, occupying another street, I was a defender, wandering the dead streets. Fans of the likes of DEATH KOMMANDER, SHRAPNEL STORM, DECAYING, JUST BEFORE DAWN, SCALPTURE, MEMORIAM will surely be as excited as I am. The songs drip with bad blood, like the bayonet on your gun. You take cover from gunfire a few times, but they still get you in the end. Fear creeps into your bones and an endless cold. Nothing will ever be the same again. For generations, hatred for the wrongs, for the pain. It's true, the new record is excellent. If you are interested in the subject of wars and like honest craft with added value, don't hesitate a moment. This is a very fine affair. There are more dead bodies in the streets. We have no place to bury them, so we burn them. Black flames lick up more and more corpses. They're trying to conquer our city. But we are strong. Hungry, tired of death, but still strong. We have no choice. These houses are built on the bones of our fathers. A warlike, dystopian death metal tank that will crush all living and non-living things! All that's left after this record is scorched earth!
