Procházím se svojí zahrádkou plnou utrhaných končetin. Zalévám kůži, strženou z jedné krásné slečny, kropím vše hustou krví. Musím ještě do přístěnku, nabrousit nože na večer, promazat řetěz u motorové pily a hlavně připravit všechny nástroje na další mučení. Už jen pár hodin a vyrazím na nový lov.

Poslech novinky slovenských gore death metalistů MOONFOG opravdu připomíná procházku nějakou hodně morbidní zahradou. Starý zvuk, rudý obal, smrt v očích - tak na mě působí nové album "Blood Splatter Stories" hned od začátku. Pojďte si spolu s kapelou poslechnout jedenáct krvavých příběhů. Dáma s kosou už čeká, možná zrovna na vás.
    

"Blood Splatter Stories" je albem, které nijak nevybočuje z toho, co předvádějí na svých deskách kupříkladu MALIGNANCY, PATHOLOGY, INTERNAL BLEEDING a tímto pohledem je nutné se na tvorbu slovenských řezníků dívat. Oči vám sice zalijí hektolitry krve, občasný příklon ke stereotypu a ne příliš výrazný zpěvák, ale to by nemělo nikomu bránit si všechny ty kousky shnilého masa pořádně vychutnat. MOONFOG se s klidem mohou zařadit do zástupu ostatních dobrých brutálně šílených kapel, které do toho mlátí hezky postaru. Rozhodně odvádějí slušnou řemeslnou práci. Pokud máte rádi podobné "prasárny", mohu vám novinku vřele doporučit. Cítím z ní nadšení pro pitvání živých těl a to nám jde především, nemám pravdu? Velmi solidní gore brutal death metal!

MOONFOG nám letos předkládají pořádně hnilobný náklad syrového masa. Brutální death metal v jeho klasické podobě zde zní velmi chytlavě a napínavě. Tradiční riffy, surový zvuk, houpavý rytmus dělají z nahrávky pořádně krvavou hostinu. Vítejte na zakázaných jatkách. Mistři řezníci zvládají svoje řemeslo nadmíru dobře. Nečekejte nic převratného, ale dobrou práci, kterou pánové opravdu umí odvést. Po stěnách stéká krev, někdo zase přinesl motorovou pilu a všichni amatérští patologové se usmívají. Dneska mají svůj velký den. Hudba je vhodná pro pitevní sály, pro operace bez narkózy i pro všechny ty, kdo se rádi bojí u hororů. Skladby doslova mokvají, cáká z nich hnis a morbiditě se meze nekladou. Osobně jsem si tenhle syrový death metal užil dosytnosti. Pokud máte rádi tradiční hodnoty ve smrtícím kovu, buďte vítáni. Dobrá a pořádně krvavá deska, která se opravdu povedla!

MOONFOG gives us a very purid load of a raw meat this year. The brutal death metal in its own classic form which sounds very catchy and dramatic. Traditional riffs, raw sound, swing rhythm makes those records very bloody dinner. Welcome to forbidden slaughterhouse. The mister butchers know very well how to do their job. Do not expect anything special or unusual, however this is a very good piece of work. There is a blood running down the walls, someone brought a chainsaw again and all of the amateur pathologists are smiling. Today is their big day. This music is great for a dissecting room, for operation without an anesthesia, for everyone who likes to be scared while watching horrors. These songs are weeping, there is a lot of septic and there are no boundaries in case of morbidity. I really enjoyed this raw death metal. If you like the traditional merits in death metal, you are welcome. Good and very bloody album which is very good!

 Již dlouho se zmítala v šílených křečích. Nemohla se rozhodnout, zda se přikloní na stranu dobra nebo zla. Křičela slova modliteb do tichých nocí, skřehotala hlasem samotné Bestie. Praly se o ní prastaré okultní síly. Houstla jí krev, trhala si vlasy a podávané léky, ani zaříkávání nepomáhaly. Nakonec to svatí mužové vzdali a přenechali ji temným silám. Poslouchala totiž novou desku australských IMPETUOUS RITUAL.

 Vystavěl jsem si vlastní náhrobek z hlukových stěn, vykopal tichý hluboký hrob, ale nic nepomáhalo. Má mysl byla již dávno nakažena a zmítal jsem se někde na pomezí mezi naším a oním světem. Hudba bourající hranice šílenství. Maniakální ozvěny z podzemí, jekot nemrtvých, zápach rozkládajících se těl. Všechno na novince "Blight upon Martyred Sentience" najdete.

"Blight upon Martyred Sentience" rozhodně není albem pro každého. Jedná se o čiré zlo ve stylu PORTAL, TEITANBLOOD, ARCHGOAT, BLASPHEMY, WRATHPRAYER, DIOCLETIAN, WITCHRIST, IGNIVOMOUS, MITOCHONDRION, ABYSSAL a jako k takovému je nutné k němu přistupovat. Na spoustu z vás to bude už moc neproniknutelné, za hranicí vnímatelnosti. Ano, Australané velmi často působí jako průvan ve starých kobkách. Jsou neuchopitelní, zákeřní, jedovatí a nepolapitelní. Spíš než o album se jedná o okultní seanci, nad kterou pokýváte hlavou, nebudete jí rozumět, ale podlehnete jí s absolutní oddaností. Smrt je tak blízko! Obraťte všechny kříže! Vyřízněte si srdce a obětujte ho na oltář vlastní zkaženosti! Špinavý a ošklivý death metal, který spasí všechny vaše černé duše!

Deathoví maniaci IMPETUOUS RITUAL jsou řádnými členy australské záhrobní scény. Jejich prvotina je hnilobná, zákeřná, šílená a připomíná zápach čerstvě otevřených hrobů. Pro někoho se bude jednat jen o obyčejný hluk, ale pro nás, kteří trávíme dlouhé hodiny v podzemí, bude novinka těchto šílenců velmi chutným pokrmem. Co na tom, že nám jsou servírovány jen samé ohlodané kosti, práchnivé tkáně a absolutní zlo. Jsme napájeni překapanou tmou, smíchanou s pavučinami a znesvěcenou vodou. Australané moc dobře vědí, jak zhudebnit absolutní temnotu. Nejedná se sice o nic převratného, ale deska se velmi dobře poslouchá a doporučil bych ji všem, kteří rádi pořádají okultní seance. Zapalte svíce, obětujte Satanovi a přivítejte všechny nemrtvé. Pandořina skříňka je otevřena, peklo může začít! Špinavý a ošklivý death metal, který spasí všechny vaše černé duše!

The death maniacs IMPETUOUS RITUAL are the proper members of the Australian other world. Their first album is saprobic, cruel and crazy and it reminds smell from freshly open graves. This may be just an ordinary sound for someone, however for us who spend hours in underground is this new album from those crazy people very nice meal. Who cares that they serve us just some nibble bones, rotten tissues and an absolute evil. We are charged with filtered darkness which is mixed with spider webs and polluted water. These Australian guys knows exactly how to compose the darkness. This album is nothing epochal, however the album is very good to listen and I would suggest it for all of you who like to organize occult séances. Light up some candles, sacrifice all alive people to the Satan and welcome them. The Pandora´s box is open and the Hell can begin! Dark and disgusting death metal which will save your dark souls.

 Lidská mysl je nevyzpytatelná a občas nás zavede do oblastí, které bychom neradi někdy navštívili znovu. Poslouchám novinku německých DENY THE URGE a mám pocit, že mi někdo přehodil přes hlavu černý igelitový pytel. Čím víc se bráním, tím je to horší. Lapám po posledních zbytcích vzduchu. Na prsou se jako nějaký ledový pavouk rozléhá ostrá bodavá bolest. 

 V pořadí třetí dlouhohrající album kapely s názvem "As Darkness Falls" je kombinací floridské a skandinávské školy. DENY THE URGE jsou temní, oškliví, zákeřní, chladní ze své podstaty. Beru do rukou svůj vlastní popel a marně přemýšlím, kde se ve mě vzala ta obrovská tíseň. Hudba mě ovlivňuje, přenáší do jiných dimenzí a pak marně, jako nějaké morbidní puzzle, skládá dohromady.
Na "As Darkness Falls" se mi asi nejvíc líbí melodické linky, které kolem mé hlavy létají, jako nějací zlí netopýři. Stávám se démonem, marně hledám svůj klid a hlavně - nasávám plnými doušky velmi propracovaný death metal. Novinka mi připomíná studený průvan, způsobený pootevřenými dveřmi do staré hrobky. DENY THE URGE jsou originální, mají vlastní výraz a s jinými si je nespletete. Pátral jsem zvědavě i nad nějakými nesrovnalostmi, ale žádné jsem nenašel. V tomhle pekle se mi líbí, jsem v něm doma a pokud to máte nastavené podobně jako já, tak neváhejte! Vynikající death metal, ve kterém se potkává temnota s melodiemi!

Máte rádi klasický death metal? Tak to by vám potom neměla uniknout nová deska italských DENY THE URGE. Ta je totiž napěchována pořádně ostrým a nekompromisním materiálem. Pánové jsou zručnými muzikanty, kteří nezapomínají i na temné melodie. CD je svým způsobem až magicky návykové. Velmi dobrý zvuk, zajímavé nápady a mocný vokalistův hlas dělají z novinky opravdu zajímavou záležitost. Pokud jste byli v devadesátých letech prokleti a máte rádi klasiky žánru, myslím, že si budete nahrávku užívat stejně jako já. Drtivé kytary, dunivé bicí, mocné riffy. V těchto momentech jsou Němci nejsilnější. Občas se sice vkrade lehký stereotyp, ale v celku se to ztratí. Užívám si tenhle pokrm ze zahnívajícího masa, je perfektně dochucený a ostrý, jako to nejlepší chilli. Stejně chladný a pálivý. DENY THE URGE vydali desku, u které budete mít pocit, že vás zrovna zaživa pohřbívají! Masakr! Excelentní temný death metal!

Do you like the classic death metal? You should take a look at the new album of Italian DENY THE URGE. This album is full of very sharp and uncompromised material. These gentlemen are very good musicians who don´t forget to include dark melodies. The album is magically addictive in its own way. Very good sound, interesting ideas and powerful vocalist´s voice, these things make this new album very interesting. If you had been cursed in the 90th and you like classic bands of this genre, I think you will like this album as much as I do. Crushing guitars, booming riffs. These moments are the strongest for these guys from Germany. From time to time you can hear a slight stereotype, however as a whole it is OK. I really enjoy this piece of food of putrefactive meat, it´s perfectly tasteful and sharp like the best chili you have ever had. Cold and hot at the same time. DENY THE URGE published an album which makes you feel like you are being buried alive! Massacre! Excellent dark death metal!

Few questions – interview with death metal band from Germany - DENY THE URGE.

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play , etc.?

The band was originally founded in 1998. But no one of that line up is part of the band anymore. I joined in 2001, assumed the songwriting and changed the former new-york-styled Band into a more florida one, with a few scandinavian elements. That turn lead to a functionable style for the band in the following decade. In 2011 we got some private and organisatorical problems and I decided to split the band up indefinitely. Between 2011 and 20014 I did a lot of songwriting experiments, wrote three albums and the third one finally became "as darkness falls". 

The actual style of the band could be plainly described as technical old school death. I tried to remove all unuseful and irritating elements and intensified the very essence of that, what this music means to me. Then I contacted James from "Vader" and formed together with Max a new line up for the band. Actually we are searching for a live session bassist, who can gladly become a new, fixed band member.


Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

The drums have been recorded at "Grindstone Studio" in Ipswitch/England, by Scott Attkins (Cradle Of Filth, Behemoth, Amon Amarth ect...) The guitars in Braunschweig/Germany by Ben Heber and the rest inclusive mixing and mastering was done in "Puresonic", Jost Schlüter, Langelsheim/Germany. 

The grindstone sessions where the hardest thing we ever did. We had just a four days slot (right after us Cradle Of Filth entered) and worked 12 to 15 ours a day to get the drums definitely save. On top of that we favourite a very natural, spontaneous (and drummer killing...!!!) way of drumrecording, to make the album sound maximal open and alive. This was a maximum challenge! To cite our drummer James "...it was definitely the most brutal album I've played on and by far the most punishing recording session of my life!!! 


How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

1000 CD's and 100 Vinyls. Furthermore the stuff is avaliable on digital download.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with ? 

I am the author of the lyrics. The idea behind our lyric-concept ist to write the lyrics maximal metaporically. Everyone is cordially invited to detect. So you can feel free...!

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important? 

I have created the new bandlogo as raw sketch. Responsible for the filigran details and the technical workout is "Luciverium War Graphics" from Mexico. Torsten Richey, a graphic designer from Braunschweig, did some final changes as well. He is also responsible for the design of the booklett and the new website. The frontcover is done by no one less then Mr. Dan Seagrave (Morbid Angel, Benediction, Suffocation ect.)

For bands social networking is essencially today. All the scene is gathering there and if you deny these plattforms fully, you'll definitely disadvantage your band. Back in the days we had just a MySpace, because this was much more important then Facebook. Now it's converse, so, before the promocampaign started, we took over the old D.T.U. Fanpage run by Simon from "Deserted Fear" and made that to our new official.


Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

We join G.U.C. now since 2004. It's now our third full length there. They are small, but they do really care about us. For getting a broarder representation for "as darkness falls" the label works together with Sure Shot Worx. For now we are satisfied with that combination.

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

Much responsible for the style of the band is the ninties anglo saxonian old school death metal stuff. Bands like "Morbid Angel", "Immolation", "Benediction", "Suffocation", "Monstrosity" ect. influenced me most back in the days.. 

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

We haeven't sent this to anyone else.


How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best? 

Our most importent shows where definitely 2010 the direct support for Sepultura and 2011 the direct support for Malevolent Creation. On the other side we did a lot of crushing headlining shows in smaller venues. Festivals we did less. Mostly we did single shows at the weekend. The conditions that time didn't allow more and beyond that we never cared about our public image these days... 

With the new album we changed that policy. The new line up is only staffed with full-time musicians and for a broarder impact we choose some external partners. The goal is to gain better conditions in dealing shows ect. and establishing the band in another level, where we can do more touring. A good mix of festivals and clubshows would be perfect! But, and that's for sure, we all live in different cities/countries (...), it would be absolute nonsense to just go on with the band like we did that back then.


What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

We wanna become a decent mark in the worldwide death metal szene!

 Seděl jsem uprostřed všech těch krásných, usměvavých lidí a věděl, že se přetvařují. Jako bych uměl nahlédnout pod jejich příjemnou slupku a vytáhnout napovrch všechno zlé a ošklivé, co ukrývají uvnitř. Jejich obličeje se začaly postupně měnit a po chvíli jsem měl kolem sebe jen samé ošklivé a zlé bestie.

 Black/death metalová prvotina texaských rouhačů NEXUL jakoby v člověku probouzela zlé síly. Šílenství má mnoho podob, ale ty které lze zaslechnout na této desce, nejsou již z tohoto světa. Bývám při společných setkáních opatrný a našlapuji tiše. Nerad bych se ztratil navěky v temnotě.



Při poslechu "Paradigm of Chaos" občas vzpomenu na kolegy PSEUDOGOD, HELLVETRON, REVENGE, NUCLEARHAMMER, BLASPHEMY. Jedná se přesně o ten druh překapaného zla, ze kterého budete nejdříve vyděšeni. Sám jsme si musel na všechen ten nihilismus chvíli zvykat. Pak mi pronikl do krve a přetvořil si mě k obrazu svému. Deska budiž rouhavým poselstvím od samotného Lucifera. Pokud jste doteď ještě nevěřili v peklo a brali jste je jen jako ošklivou pohádku, tak teď pochopíte bolest. Mám strach otevřít oči, spatřil bych totiž samotnou Smrt. Temný black death metalový debut, který musel vzniknout v šílených bolestech a tmě! Skvěle!

"Paradigm of Chaos" je death/black metalové album, které připomíná odříkávání staré modlitby. Američtí NEXUL se v něm modlí ke starým opuštěným hřbitovům, k peklu, k samotné smrti. Hudba je zde velmi naléhavá, temná, doslova černě smutná. Pokud máte rádi okultní záležitosti, myslím, že budete spokojeni stejně jako já. Při poslechu této nahrávky je smrt tak blízko! CD je jako rituál, uspořádaný k černé mši. Také cítíte tu beznadějnou atmosféru, tu náladu plnou tmy a záhrobí? NEXUL jsou na prvním albu tajemní a magičtí, jako opuštěný kostel. Novinka se s klidem může přehrávat na pohřbech padlých mnichů. Magická death/black metalová záležitost. Excelentní okultní obřad!

"Paradigm of Chaos" is a death/black metal album that recalls chanting of old prayers. American NEXUL pray there to the old lonely cemeteries, to Hell, to Death itself. The music here is very urgent, dark, literally black sad. If you like the occult, I think you will be happy as me. When listening to this recording is the death so close! CD is like a ritual, organized to the Black Mass. Do you also feel the hopeless atmosphere, the mood full of darkness and the beyond? NEXUL are on their debut album mysterious and magical, like a lonely church. The news  can be calmly played at funerals of fallen monks. Magic death/black metal thing. Excellent occult ceremony!

Jsem doma sám a marně hledám svůj klid. Najednou se rozsvítí obrazovka mého počítače a vrátí mě o mnoho let zpátky, do dob, kdy světu vládly kapely jako BLACK SABBATH, PENTAGRAM, DANZIG. Usadím se do křesla a přemýšlím, kde se v kapele VENOMOUS MAXIMUS bere tolik studené energie. Přidávám volume, kroutím se do rytmu a těším se na večerní procházku na hřbitov. Ve sluchátkách mi bude znít nová deska "No Warning" a už se těším, až si zatančím s nemrtvými. Tohle je heavy doom metal, který otevírá staré plesnivé hroby.

Máte rádi smečky jako SAGH, GRAND MAGUS, milujete v hudbě kombinaci chladu, staroby a naléhavosti? Potom jsou pro vás VENOMOUS MAXIMUS jako stvoření. Mám někdy plné zuby dnešní rychlé a přetvařující se doby. Odmítám komerci, toužím po poctivosti a realitě. A tohle všechno cítím i z nové desky "No Warning". Objednal si někdo domů pořádnou porci mrazivých melodií? Ano, byl jsem to já, zcela ponořený do nekonečných bažin heavy doom metalu. Tohle album mě rozsekalo hned od začátku. Chci být zavřený ve své kobce a pořád jej poslouchat dokola. Ukazuje se, že i smutek může být přitažlivý. Smrt je blízko a já si dávkuji do žil hudbu VENOMOUS MAXIMUS stále dokola. Nemůžu se jí zbavit, jsem její součástí, zcela pohlcen a rozdrcen. Hey přátelé, ztratili jste se někdy na onom světě? Tak nezoufejte, VENOMOUS MAXIMUS vás vyvedou ven. Heavy doom metalové album, které připomíná nářek smutečních hostí! Smrt je tak krásná! Vynikající okultní nahrávka! Yeah!

I am home alone and I am trying to look for some peace in my mind. Suddenly, my computer screen turns on and it takes me back a few years. To the times when this world was ruled by bands like BLACK SABBATH, PENTAGRAM, DANZIG. I sit down to my armchair and I think about how is it possible that VENOMOUS MAXIMUS have so much cold energy. I add some volume, turning in the rhythm and I am looking forward to evening walk to the cemetery. I will have the new album “No Warning” in my headphones and I cannot wait to dance with the bodies of undead. This is heavy doom metal which opens old mouldy graves.

If you like bands like SAGH, GRAND MAGUS, and you love the combination of cold, old age and urgency in music, then VENOMOUS MAXIMUS is the right band for you. Sometimes I feel sick of today´s world which is so fast and fake. I reject commerce, I want honesty and reality. And I can feel all of this from the new album “No Warning”. Did anyone ordered a decent portion of freezing melodies? Yes, it was me. I was completely immersed in the endless swamp of heavy doom metal. This album killed me from the beginning. I want to be locked in my cell and listen to this album over and over again. I turns out that sadness can be appealing. Death is close and I am biting the music of VENOMOUS MAXIMUS into my veins over and over again. I cannot get rid of it, I am a part of it, I am completely absorbed and crushed. Hey friends, have you ever been lost in this world? Do not worry, VENOMOUS MAXIMUS will take you out. Heavy doom metal album which feels like mourning of funeral guests! Death is so beautiful! Excellent occult album! Yeah!

Ave MORTA SKULD! Poslouchám vaši letošní novinku „Wounds Deeper then Time“ už nějaký čas a pořád v ní objevuji pro sebe nové a nové kousky temnoty. Přiznám se, že jsem od vás čekal dobré řemeslo, ale že mě takhle rozsekáte, tak to ne. Album se podle mě opravdu povedlo. Jaké máte reakce od fanoušků, co recenze?

Děkujeme za taková krásná slova a ano, albu se daří skvěle a z toho co jsem slyšel, tak se fanouškům hodně líbí a recenzentům také.


Hráli jste už některé songy z novinky na koncertě? Jak fungují na fanoušky? Máte už nějaký potencionální hit? Osobně bych si tipnul druhou skladbu „In Judgment“.

Ano, nové songy jsme už hráli naživo několikrát a fungují dobře. A většina recenzentů si oblíbila píseň Hating Life ale udělali jsme klip pro píseň In Judgment.

Jakým způsobem vznikal nový materiál pro „Wounds Deeper then Time“? Jak vlastně tvoří/skládají MORTA SKULD?

Několik textů bylo napsáno spolu s Serving Two Masters složením a zbytek jsme napsali v naší současné sestavě.

Kdo je autorem textů a o čem pojednávají? Kde pro témata berete inspiraci?

Já (Dave Gregor) píšu všechno texty a přicházím vlastně se všemi koncepty, ale pokud kdokoli z kluků má nápad, tak jsem rozhodně všemu otevřený.

Kdo je autor obalu novinky „Wounds Deeper then Time“? Jeho práce se mi hodně líbí. Jak jste vůbec motiv na obal vybírali?

Můj dobrý kamarád Pat Kachellek nám dělá obaly. Procházeli jsme spolu neustále dokola naše texty a písně a on se mě zeptal na celkové téma desky a jednou přišel s takovým skvělým obalem.


Skvělý je zvuk celé nahrávky. Je temný, studený a ostrý zároveň. V jakém studiu jste album nahrávali? Mluvili jste jako kapela do výsledného zvuku, masteringu?

Nahrávali jsme v Mercenary studio se Scottem Creekmorem a ano vždycky dbáme na to, abychom si k albu mohli říct co chceme – ať už ke zvuku, nebo k tomu, jak to chodí ve studiu.

Hrajete od roku 1990. To je na kapelu pěkně dlouhá doba. Dalo by se říct, že jste se stali legendou. Jaké byly vaše začátky? Jak vlastně skupina vznikla a co byl první impuls k tomu, začít hrát death metal?

Souhlasím, tohle určitě byla dlouhá cesta. Já začal hrát na kytaru později než ostatní a nechtěl jsem si s tím dát na čas. Takže jsem do toho šel po hlavě a okamžitě jsem začal hrát a psát písně. Ale zpočátku jsem neměl žádnou cestu a pak jsem slyšel death metal a to mi změnilo život. Můžeš bejt dobrý, ale to neznamená, že jsi drtič. Já v tu dobu nehrál moc dobře, ale hrál jsem hodně rychle a měl jsem těžké akordy. To mi prostě sedělo. Byla to prostě hudba bez pravidel a mohl jsem vytvořit prakticky cokoli jsem chtěl a prostě to zahrát. 


V letech 1998 – 2012 jste přerušili svoji činnost. Proč vlastně?

V té době by náš bubeník na turné a nedokončil ho a tak jsme museli zpátky domů a ztratili jsme všechno kvůli Kentovi a jeho volbě nevystupovat na turné. A to ani nezmiňuji, že většina bubeníků nedělala dvojitou kytaru a nemohli jsme najít další členy, tak jsem se prostě rozpadli.

Jste už dnes pamětníci. Když porovnáš vaše začátky a současnost, změnila se doba hodně? Myslím tím teď přístup fanoušků, labelů, promotérů apod. Často slýchávám, že „už to není takové, jako to bývalo“. Co si o tom myslíš ty?

Není to to samé, rozhodně ne. Kdysi jsme měli budgety na nahrávání a opravdu tě lidé kontrolovali v rámci práv. A vůbec to pro nás bylo lepší než dnes. Peaceville se k nám chovali hezky a nebyl s nimi nikdy žádný problém. Prostě jen zavřeli některá jejich studia a je tak méně místa na to, kde hrát. Nikdo dnes prostě nechce platit za artovou hudbu, kterou my hrajeme. A prostě všechno je teď těžší pro všechny umělce, co se týče hraní. Lidé kradou hudbu a nechodí ani tolik na koncerty. Takže tohle všechno se změnilo a je prostě těžší být v tomhle businessu.


Pátral jsem ve starých rozhovorech, dokonce si vytáhl i tištěné časopisy a nikde jsem nenašel, kdo je vlastně autorem loga MORTA SKULD?

Chad Hensel (člen DR Shrinker) nám dělal logo před mnoha lety a my ho pořád používáme.

V současné době si většina lidí nová alba stahuje z internetu a používá jen jeho digitální podobu. Jak vidíš tuhle problematiku ty? Zajímal by mě tvůj pohled jako muzikanta.

Má to své výhody i nevýhody. Co se týče prodeje, tak to může být ilegální, a to se těžko dohledává. Ale pak máš fanoušky, kteří se o nás dozvědí na YouTube, takže internet může být i dobře využitelný. Ale většina lidí ho používá negativně.

Jsou nějaké desky, které tě v poslední době oslovily?

Nový KREATOR a IMMOLATION jsou skvělí. Nový OBITUARY jsou taky super. A THE MEMORIAM jsem si oblíbil.


Znáš, posloucháš nějaké kapely z České republiky?

Bohužel ne.

Co chystají MORTA SKULD v nejbližších měsících?

Máme v plánu několik festivalů – např. KY DEATH FEST a potom Oct CA Death Fest. Snažíme se vymyslet šnůru a také píšeme nové písně.

 Ave MORTA SKULD! I have been listening to your new album “Wounds Deeper then Time” for a while now and I still discover some new parts of darkness in it. I have to admit that I expected a good craft from you, but I did not expect that you will totally kill me. This album is great. How are fans´ reactions and reviews?

Thanks for the words and yes this album has been doing well and from what i hear the fans dig it and the reviewers are liking it as well. Personally I would say it could be “In Judgment”. Yes we have been playing them out for some time now and we they are going over great in our set. And most reviewers are into Hating Life but we did do lyric video for In Judgement.

How did you compose the material for “Wounds Deeper then Time”? How MORTA SKULD compose?

A few songs we written with the Serving Two Masters line up and then the rest were written by this current line up.

Who is the author of your lyrics and where do you find inspiration for them?

I (Dave Gregor) write the lyrics and come up with concepts, but if one of the guys has a line i'm always open to it.

Who is the author of the cover for “Wounds Deeper then Time”? I really like this artist´s work. How did you chose the motive for the cover?

My good friend Pat Kachellek does our artwork and him and I went back forth with lyrics and songs and he would ask me about themes and one day came up with the awesome cover.



The sound of this album is great. It is dark, cold and sharp at the same time. What studio did you chose for recording? Were you able to have any comments as a band about the final product and mastering?

We went to Mercenary studios with Scott Creekmore and yes we always make sure we have a say so in the way things sound and or are done in the studio, we are very hands on.

You started your band in 1990. That is a long time for a band. We can almost say that you are a legend now. How were your beginnings? How was the band found and what was the first impulse for creating a death metal band? Why this music style?

I agree been long time and road for sure. I started playing guitar later then most and i didnt want to really take my time and i just jumped into playing and started writing my own songs. But at first i had no direction and then heard death metal and that changed my life, you could be good but not have to be a shredder and at the time i didnt play very well but could speed pick fast and had very heavy chord progressions and it just fit with how i was at the time.It was just a music with no rules and i could create anything i wanted and just ran with it.



You stopped your music between 1998-2012. Why?

My drummer at the time went out on tour and didnt complete it and we had to come home and lost everything due to Kent and his choice to not tour. And not to mention most drummers werent doing double bass anymore and we couldnt find the rest of the line up so we broke the band up.

You are like veterans now. When you compare your beginnings and today, do you thing the time has changed? I mean the attitude of fans, labels, promoters, organizers, and so on? I often hear people saying “it is not the same as it used to be”.

It's not the same by any means, back then you had record budgets and you actually got royalty checks and were treated alot better then today. Peaceville has been good to us and treat us well so no issues there just the venues have closed and fewer places to play and or no one wants to pay the bands anymore for the art and music we create. And just all around things have become harder for the artist to thrive and live off the music, people stealing music and it dont have the appeal like it used to with some, and fewer people at shows so it has just changed alot and is tough to be in this business these days.



I try to find some of your old interviews and I even found some printed magazines. But there is no information about the author of your logo.

Chad Hensel formaly of DR Shrinker did our logo many years ago and still use same one til this day.

Nowadays, many people download music online and they only use its digital form. How do you feel about this issue as a musician?

It has it good points and bad, from a sales stand point it can be bad if it illegally taken which is hard to stop these days, but then you have fans that may check you out as they run into a youtube of the album, so it can be used for good but most exploite it and use it the wrong context.



Are there any albums which have caught your attention recently?

The new Kreator and Immolation are both kick ass, the new Obituary is awesome as well. And oh yeah the Memoriam is sick as hell too.

Do you know and listen any Czech bands?

I'm sorry but i dont.

What are MORTA SKULD´s plans for the next few months?

We have a couple of festivals coming up one being the KY death fest and then in Oct CA deeath fest as well, trying to get on the road a bit and writing some songs for next album.
