A few questions - interview with death metal band from Portugal - RUTTENSKALLE.

Answered Paulo Soares, thank you!

Recenze/review - RUTTENSKALLE - Skin 'Em Alive (2021):

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

Hello! And thank you for this opportunity. My name is Paulo Soares, and I’m the founder and only element of this project. I founded this project in 2020, and this is a homage to Swedish Death Metal, to bands like Entombed, Dismember, etc.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

Besides being a musician, I am also a producer and Recording/Mixing Engineer, so I have the freedom to record and produce on my own stuff. I don’t consider myself a Mastering Engineer, but I ended also mastering the album myself as well.

How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

This album was released both digitally and physically, through CD format, and it was a small release of 200 copies.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

As the only Ruttenskalle member, I am also the author of the lyrics. They were inspired on the gore/psycho theme. I got inspired mainly by some crazy murderers and very disturbed people. And on me too of course. We all have a dark side and fucked up fantasies…

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

Yes, image is also important for sure. The main logo was created by me, and then finished by a talented graphic designer from Belarus (ModBlackMoon). The Album artwork was created by Daniel Cabrera from Philippines (Dan’s Putrid Art). I have been trying to also manage my social networks, but I must admit it have been a little hard to do almost everything on my own, also because Ruttenskalle isn’t my only project.

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

I choose Gruesome Records for the physical release, mainly because I trusted their previous work with other bands, and because they’re from my Country, and they are also kind of a very recent label, and I thought, hey... maybe we can grow together. They are very careful and as passionate as me, so I couldn’t be happier with my choice. They even exceeded my expectations!

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

Regarding this project, there are a few obvious names, like Dismember, old Entombed, Entrails. But I have also other influences that may have been a little bit notorious, for example, I also love Florida Death Metal, and bands like Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, etc., have also been a great influence on me.

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

Besides Gruesome Records, I admit I also sent it also to some bigger foreign labels, but I don’t think its worth to mention them. Anyway, I didn’t have any response back from any of them, but at same time, I’m also not surprised.

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

With Ruttenskalle I never played live gigs, but from experience with another bands, usually big festivals are where I have been playing for a greater audience, and that’s always a bit more motivating. However, from the performance point of view, I believe we should perform the same way, in whatever circumstance we’re playing. I don’t care if I’m playing for a few people or for thousands, I will always deliver same quality performance.

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

This started as a personal/side project, but I would like to be able to perform some live shows and write new material for future releases. However, this is not my priority project now. I’m more focused on my main band Rageful (also Death Metal but in another flavor)

How and where can your fans contact you? Can you provide some contact information?

Sure! Everyone can contact me thought my Facebook page ( www.facebook.com/ruttenskalle) or to my e-mail at paulo.soares@deathmetal.pt

Thanx for the interview.

Thank you too! It was a pleasure!
