Objevili se náhle, jako černé stíny, jako zlé svědomí. Vystoupili z krvavé mlhy. S obličeji bez tváře. Na kraji lesa, daleko na severu, kde přežívají démoni. Zrovna jsem seděl na jednom starém pohřebišti a přemýšlel nad způsoby, jakými se tenkrát rituálně popravovalo. Vnímal jsem zaschlou krev na kamenných oltářích, slyšel jsem nářek obětí. Je něco chladného, okultního, zlovolného a děsivého, v hudbě finských SARASTUS. Jsou chvíle, kdy jsem moc rád sám a poslouchám právě takový black metal, jaký hrají tihle maniaci.

Je totiž melodický takovým tím bolestivým způsobem, má v sobě cosi neklidného, jakoby hořel zevnitř a byl ledový na povrchu. Pánové jsou i na svém třetím dlouhohrajícím albu nositelé pradávných black metalových tradic. A dělají to s elegancí, nadšením a uvěřitelností starých mistrů. Pokud máte tenhle styl rádi, neváhejte, stačí jenom vstoupit a nechat se navěky proklít.

O zvuku, motivu na obalu, produkci a dalších formálních věcech není třeba diskutovat, vše je v nejlepším pořádku. Vy se tak můžete soustředit na hudbou samotnou, která je nihilistická, mrazivě temné a naléhavá. Už jste byli někdy u exhumace nějaké oběti starých rituálů? Tak ani nemusíte, při téhle nahrávce zažijete velmi podobné pocity. Skladby jsou tu totiž velmi dobře napsány, mají v sobě spoustu zajímavých a neotřelých nápadů. Navíc má tohle album jednu obrovskou výhodu. Velmi dobře se poslouchá. Není přístupné napoprvé, ale má v sobě cosi až magicky přitažlivého. Jako bych byl opravdu součástí nějaké staré seance pro vyvolávání temných sil. Postavy zahalené v kápích, obrácené modlitby, kříže směřující dolů. Kalich plný krve. Nejsem typický black metalista, hodně si v tomto stylu vybírám a jako takový musím říct, že mi již několik týdnů koluje "Agony Eternal" v žilách. Připadám si jako uhranutý, prokletý. Pro poslech doporučuji brzké ráno, sychravé počasí a nejlépe upuštěný hřbitov. V těchto místech a chvílích vynikne síla této nahrávky nejvíce. SARASTUS opět naplno zúročili svůj nepopiratelný talent a napsali songy, které hoří jasným černým plamenem. Dodat musím ještě jednu věc. Připadá mi, cítím to, že z jejich hudby cítím jakousi těžko definovatelnou melancholii, tolik typickou pro smečky z téhle krásné země. Objevili se náhle, jako černé stíny, jako zlé svědomí. Vystoupili z krvavé mlhy. S obličeji bez tváře. Na kraji lesa, daleko na severu, kde přežívají démoni. Nezbývá než přijmout pozvání a přejít na druhou stranu, za řeku Styx. Mrazivě temný, nihilistický, okultní black metalový rituál s krvavě zbarvenou aurou!

They appeared suddenly, like black shadows, like an evil conscience. They emerged from the bloody mist. With faceless faces. At the edge of the forest, far to the north, where demons survive. I was just sitting in an old burial ground, thinking about the ritual executions of the time. I could feel the dried blood on the stone altars, hear the cries of the victims. There is something cold, occult, sinister and terrifying in the music of the Finnish SARASTUS. There are times when I am very happy to be alone and listen to just the kind of black metal these maniacs play.

Because it is melodic in that painful way, it has something restless in it, as if it is burning from the inside and icy on the surface. On their third full-length album the gentlemen are also the bearers of ancient black metal traditions. And they do it with the elegance, enthusiasm and believability of the old masters. If you like this style, don't hesitate, just get in and be damned forever.

There is no need to discuss the sound, the motif on the cover, the production and other formal things, everything is in the best order. So you can concentrate on the music itself, which is nihilistic, chillingly dark and urgent. Have you ever been to the exhumation of a victim of an old ritual? Then you don't even have to, you will experience very similar feelings with this recording. In fact, the songs here are very well written, with lots of interesting and novel ideas. Moreover, this album has one huge advantage. It is very easy to listen to. It's not accessible at first, but it has something almost magically appealing about it. It's like I'm really part of an old séance for summoning dark forces. Hooded figures, inverted prayers, crosses pointing down. A chalice full of blood. I'm not a typical black metal guy, I pick and choose a lot in this style and as such I have to say that "Agony Eternal" has been running through my veins for a few weeks now. I feel bewitched, cursed. For listening, I recommend early morning, drizzly weather and preferably a dropped graveyard. These are the places and moments where the power of this recording shines through the most. SARASTUS have once again made the most of their undeniable talent and written songs that burn with a bright black flame. I have one more thing to add. I find, I feel, that I can sense from their music a kind of hard-to-define melancholy, so typical for packs from this beautiful country. No choice but to accept the invitation and cross to the other side, beyond the River Styx. A frosty dark, nihilistic, occult black metal ritual with a blood-coloured aura!
