Blížíme se domů. Trvalo to několik světelných let, než jsme se vrátili. Všichni mezitím zestárli, dospěli, svět, který jsme znali, se změnil k nepoznání. Alespoň tak jsme si všechno představovali. Potkali jsme spoustu civilizací, některé byly o hodně vyspělejší než my, jiné zase kruté a primitivní. Modrá planeta ale nebyla již od prvního pohledu tak krásná a monumentální, jako dřív, jako jsme si ji pamatovali. Přístroje hlásily vysokou míru radiace. Nasadili jsme skafandry a sestoupili na spálenou zemi. Mrtvá planeta? Jak se to stalo?

Jsme na tom technologicky nejlépe v historii, ale co se týká našich myšlenek, tak se často pohybujeme a jednáme stále jako naši neandrtálští předci. Pokud tedy věříte v Darwinovu teorii. Je pro mě zase velmi příjemné se proletět vesmírem za zvuků nového alba britských progresivců CRYPTIC SHIFT. Vzpomínám při poslechu na staré sci-fi autory, které jsem kdysi čítával a jejichž vize se v mnohém až děsivě splnily. Pokud máte rádi technický death metal, komplikovaný thrash metal, jazzové prvky i psychedelické chvilky odpočinku, neváhejte ani chvilku. Hraje se zde pro vás i pro všechny vetřelce z vesmíru.

S nahrávkami téhle kapely to mám nastavené tak, že je nutné jim dát potřebný čas. Každé nové album (a novinka není výjimkou) musí uzrát. Poslouchal jsem nové album v různých denních dobách, v odlišných náladách, ale nejvíce vynikla pozdě v noci, když obloha zářila hvězdami a nebe bylo plné krvavých cákanců. "Overspace & Supertime" si lze představit jako velmi pestrou paletu různých melodií, zvuků, nálad a momentů. Musíte na sebe nechat album jen tak působit, mít na něj čas a hlavně klid. Skladby jsou zde velmi dlouhé, těkající, neklidné, různorodé. Každá si žije vlastním životem, je jako organismus, který k nám přivezli vesmírní kovbojové. Inspirace třeba takovými VOIVOD, ATHEIST, CYNIC, NOCTURNUS, SADUS, MARTYR, je samozřejmě patrná na každém kroku, přesto lze považovat tuhle smečku za originální. Kapela má opravdu vlastní postupy, motivy, pasáže. Atmosféra je temná a chladná jako bude jednou naše planeta, až ji úplně zničíme. Nic se neděje, jsme jen jedním druhem a zrnkem ve věčnosti. Příroda si nakonec poradí, tomu věřte. Než se tak ale stane, budu podobné desky poslouchat vždy rád a s chutí. CRYPTIC SHIFT se vydali těžkou cestou, která je opravdu velmi náročná a komplikovaná. Nutno ale rovnou dodat, že si stále zachovávají takový ten zdravý drive, nadšení, uvěřitelnost a živočišnost. Album se tak, když překonáte počáteční náročnost, velmi dobře poslouchá a garantuji vám, že na něm najdete spoustu nového i po velmi dlouho době. Platí zde více než kde jinde - lepší je zapnout play a nechat se unášet hvězdokupou, než psát nějaká slova, která nikdy nedokáží přesně vyjádřit jednotlivé nuance. Sci-fi technický death thrash metal, u kterého na vás dýchne temnota a chlad vesmíru! Průlet hvězdokupou!

We are approaching home. It took several light years to return. Everyone had grown older and more mature in the meantime, and the world we knew had changed beyond recognition. At least, that's how we imagined it would be. We encountered many civilizations, some much more advanced than ours, others cruel and primitive. But at first glance, the blue planet was no longer as beautiful and monumental as we remembered it. The instruments reported high levels of radiation. We put on our spacesuits and descended onto the scorched earth. A dead planet? How did this happen?

We are at our technological peak in history, but when it comes to our thoughts, we often still move and act like our Neanderthal ancestors. That is, if you believe in Darwin's theory. It is very pleasant for me to fly through space to the sounds of the new album by British progressives CRYPTIC SHIFT. As I listen, I am reminded of the old science fiction authors I used to read, whose visions have come true in many ways, some of them frightening. If you like technical death metal, complex thrash metal, jazz elements, and psychedelic moments of rest, don't hesitate for a second. This music is for you and for all the aliens from outer space.

With this band's recordings, I find that you have to give them time. Every new album (and this one is no exception) needs to mature. I listened to the new album at different times of day, in different moods, but it stood out most late at night, when the sky was lit up with stars and full of bloody splashes. "Overspace & Supertime" can be imagined as a very colorful palette of different melodies, sounds, moods, and moments. You have to let the album sink in, have time for it, and above all, be calm. The songs here are very long, fleeting, restless, and diverse. Each one lives its own life, like an organism brought to us by space cowboys. Inspiration from bands such as VOIVOD, ATHEIST, CYNIC, NOCTURNUS, SADUS, and MARTYR is evident at every turn, yet this pack can still be considered original. The band truly has its own techniques, motifs, and passages. The atmosphere is dark and cold, just as our planet will be once we have completely destroyed it. Nothing is happening, we are just one species and a speck in eternity. Nature will eventually take care of itself, believe that. But until that happens, I will always enjoy listening to albums like this. CRYPTIC SHIFT has embarked on a difficult journey that is truly very demanding and complicated. However, it must be said that they still retain that healthy drive, enthusiasm, credibility, and animalistic energy. Once you get past the initial difficulty, the album is very enjoyable to listen to, and I guarantee that you will find a lot of new things on it even after a very long time. More than anywhere else, it is better to press play and let yourself be carried away by the star cluster than to write words that can never accurately express the individual nuances. Sci-fi technical death thrash metal that breathes the darkness and coldness of space! A flight through a star cluster!
