Pro většinu z nás jsou válka a utrpení, které jí provází, jenom vzdálenými záběry kamer. Přiznám se, že mě ukrajinsko-ruský konflikt opravdu zasáhl a snažím se, co mi síly dovolí, pomáhat, kde to jen jde. Je mi tak nějak jedno špinavá politika, ale bolí mě se dívat v roce 2026 na kusy roztrhaných těl. Navíc, u nás v Čechách máme s agresory dlouhou zkušenost a děsím se dne, kdy vyhraje hloupost nad zdravým rozumem. Víte, když jsem poprvé slyšel debutové album ukrajinských death grinderů STRUP, tak jsem toho příliš nečekal.
Již dlouhé roky si vyhrazuji právo nepsat o všech smečkách, jenže tady mě doslova přikovala na zeď autenticita celé nahrávky. Jakoby kapela vytáhla veškeré lidské zlo, hnus a špínu, kterou v jejich zemi zažívají, na povrch, smíchala ji se zkaženou krví a podávala ji na víku od rakve. Pánové jsou ryzí, opravdoví, uvěřitelní a řežou přímo do živého. Navíc je album velmi dobře složeno a napsáno.
STRUP jsou tradiční ve svých postupech, v textech se také zaobírají hnusem dnešního světa. Co ale přinášejí navíc? Osobně novinku vnímám jako velmi temnou a chladnou. Surový, smradlavý death metal z těch nejhlubších katakomb je zde kombinován s ostrým a divokým grindcore. Výsledný koktejl je velmi jedovatý a zemřete po něm v šílených křečích. Každá skladba má svoji vlastní strukturu, řeže ostře a do hloubky. Kývám se spokojeně do rytmu a pořád mám před očima masové hroby. Čeho všeho je člověk jako druh schopen? "Abyssurge" bych přirovnal k děsivému hororu, který býval kdysi obyčejnou noční můrou, ale teď se stal ještě horší krutou realitou. Pokud bych potom měl tvorbu téhle smečky k někomu přirovnat, volil bych jména jako NASUM, CAUSTIC WOUND, XYSMA, BLOOD, ROTTEN SOUND a dalším, kteří ve své tvorbě kombinují divokost a naprostou tmu. Jako vždy musím zmínit naprosté základy, jako je zvuk a motiv na obalu. Jsou to formality, ale bez těch se nedostanou kapely do mého užšího výběru a nenapíšu o nich. Ukrajinci i v této oblasti bodují na výbornou. Zvuk je ostrý, nekompromisní, přesto dobře čitelný a dodává nahrávce na ještě větší intenzitě. Malba na obalu je jakousi nechutnou koláží, která velice umně a přesně doplňuje celkovou náladu desky. Zkrátka a dobře, novinka je sice debutem a dalo by se jí ledacos odpustit, jenže já nemusím. Za hudbu, se kterou pánové přicházejí, by se nemusely stydět o hodně větší a slavnější kapely. Z mé strany berte tuhle recenzi jako velké doporučení. Novinka se totiž velmi dobře poslouchá. Praskají u ní kosti a tuhne krev v žilách. Surové, temné a autentické death grindcoreové album, které řeže přímo do živého! Definice lidského zla a hnusu!

I don't really care about dirty politics, but it hurts me to see torn bodies in 2026. Moreover, we in the Czech Republic have long experience with aggressors, and I dread the day when stupidity will prevail over common sense. You know, when I first heard the debut album of Ukrainian death grinders STRUP, I didn't expect much.
For many years, I have reserved the right not to write about every band, but here I was literally nailed to the wall by the authenticity of the entire recording. It's as if the band brought all the human evil, filth, and dirt they experience in their country to the surface, mixed it with rotten blood, and served it on a coffin lid. These guys are genuine, real, believable, and they cut straight to the heart. What's more, the album is very well composed and written.
STRUP are traditional in their approach, and their lyrics also deal with the ugliness of today's world. But what else do they bring to the table? Personally, I find the new album very dark and cold. Raw, stinking death metal from the deepest catacombs is combined here with sharp and wild grindcore. The resulting cocktail is very poisonous and will kill you in crazy convulsions. Each song has its own structure, cutting sharply and deeply. I nod contentedly to the rhythm and still see mass graves before my eyes. What is the human race capable of? I would compare "Abyssurge" to a terrifying horror movie that used to be just a nightmare, but has now become an even worse cruel reality. If I had to compare this band's work to anyone, I would choose names like NASUM, CAUSTIC WOUND, XYSMA, BLOOD, ROTTEN SOUND, and others who combine ferocity and utter darkness in their work. As always, I have to mention the absolute basics, such as the sound and the cover art. These are formalities, but without them, bands don't make it onto my shortlist and I don't write about them. The Ukrainians score top marks in this area as well. The sound is sharp, uncompromising, yet clear, adding even more intensity to the recording. The painting on the cover is a kind of distasteful collage that very artfully and accurately complements the overall mood of the album. In short, the new album is a debut and could be forgiven for many things, but I don't have to. The music these gentlemen come up with is something that much bigger and more famous bands would not have to be ashamed of. Take this review as a big recommendation from me. The new album is very enjoyable to listen to. It breaks bones and makes your blood run cold. A raw, dark, and authentic death grindcore album that cuts right to the bone! The definition of human evil and filth!
