Klečíš uprostřed nicoty. Rozdrásán do krve jsi šel stále dál, pořád si bojoval, ale teď už nemáš sílu. Svět je až příliš zlý, špinavý. Jakoby poslední roky na povrch vypluly všechny temné pudy a začaly nás ovládat. Satan stojí ve stínu a směje se chaosu, který jsme si sami způsobili. Války, násilí, bolest. Nikdy se asi nezměníme. Bojoval si celý život. Zavíráš se do své kobky, bereš do ruky žiletku a čekáš na spalující oheň. Peklo existuje, to už dávno víš. Jsou ale také kapely, které všechny tyhle pocitu umí znázornit, zhmotnit ve své hudbě a když je pak posloucháš, tak si připadáš očištěný, znovuzrozený. A vůbec ti nevadí, že ti odpadává maso od kostí a do obličeje ti prší jedovatý kyselý déšť.
Jednou z takových kapel, která se mi umí dostat pod kůži i do podvědomí, jsou INVOCATION RITUAL ze Seattle. Jedná se o novou smečku, která má starý prašivý death metal zakódovaný ve svém DNA stejně jako já. Možná je kolem nás svět podivný, zlý a ošklivý, ale smrt, kterou tihle maniaci přinášejí, že povznášející a očišťující. Přesto morbidní, špinavá a voní po zkaženém mase.
Každý člen této skupiny je dávno zkušeným bardem (Oxygen Destroyer, Kontusion a Reburied), který má za sebou v undergroundovém metalu dlouho cestu a spoustu zajímavých a dobrých nahrávek. U novinky "Altered Reality" si tak můžete být naprosto jistí, že má vynikající zvuk (Greg “Earhammer” Wilkinson - mastering), stylový motiv na obalu (Dan Bones, Anne Margrete Sjøflot), ale hlavně, že se jedná o hudbu, která byla napsána v tom nejhlubším podzemí. Představte si špinavou stoku pod vaším městem. Stojíte na břehu, pod nohama vám tančí krysy na ostrých střepech děsivých vzpomínek. Ve vodě plavou nafouklá těla utopenců, jako by lidé byli nějaký odpad, který je nutné zlikvidovat v kafilerii. Líbí se mi, jakým způsobem jsou skladby napsány, že v sobě mají potřebný drive, pradávnou sílu, posbíranou na těch nejhnusnějších pohřebištích. Poslouchat tohle album je jako sedět na starém hřbitově a prosévat mezi prsty prach prokletých předků. Ano, pánové sice nepřinášejí nic nového, ale jejich hudba není jen odkazem a ozvěnou věcí minulých. Naopak, kapela se snažila do jednotlivých motivů dostat i své nápady a invenci. Myslím si, slyším to tak, že se jim to povedlo na výbornou. Hroby jsou exhumovány s elegancí mistrů v oboru a pro mě je čest se k nahrávce znovu a znovu vracet. Navíc má deska takovou zvláštní, neklidnou a doomovou atmosféru, která je nastaveným zrcadlem současnému pokřivenému, nejistému a zkaženému světu. Tahle smečka šla až na samou podstatu smrti, ohlodala vše na kost a povedlo se jim to na výbornou. V márnici leží další těla. Oběti nenávisti. Už neexistuje žádná naděje. Jenom temnota, zlo a strach. You’re kneeling in the midst of nothingness. Torn to shreds and bleeding, you kept going, kept fighting, but now you have no strength left. The world is far too evil, too filthy. It’s as if in recent years all our dark instincts have surfaced and begun to control us. Satan stands in the shadows, laughing at the chaos we’ve brought upon ourselves. War, violence, pain. We’ll probably never change. You’ve fought your whole life. You lock yourself in your cell, pick up a razor blade, and wait for the burning fire. Hell exists you’ve known that for a long time. But there are also bands that can capture all these feelings, give them form in their music, and when you listen to them, you feel cleansed, reborn. And you don’t mind at all that your flesh is falling off your bones and poisonous acid rain is pouring down on your face.
One such band that gets under my skin and into my subconscious is INVOCATION RITUAL from Seattle. They’re a new pack that has old, mangy death metal encoded in their DNA just like I do. Maybe the world around us is strange, evil, and ugly, but the death these maniacs bring is uplifting and cathartic. Yet it’s morbid, filthy, and reeks of rotten flesh.
Every member of this band is a seasoned veteran (Oxygen Destroyer, Kontusion, and Reburied) who has come a long way in the underground metal scene and has released many interesting and high quality recordings. With their new release, “Altered Reality”, you can be absolutely certain that it features excellent sound (mastered by Greg “Earhammer” Wilkinson), stylish cover art (by Dan Bones and Anne Margrete Sjøflot), but most importantly, that this is music written in the deepest depths of the underground. Imagine a filthy sewer beneath your city. You’re standing on the bank, rats dancing beneath your feet on the sharp shards of terrifying memories. The bloated bodies of the drowned float in the water, as if people were some kind of waste that must be disposed of at a rendering plant. I love the way the songs are written they possess the necessary drive, an ancient power gathered from the most repulsive graveyards. Listening to this album is like sitting in an old cemetery and letting the dust of cursed ancestors slip through your fingers. Yes, these gentlemen may not be bringing anything new to the table, but their music isn’t merely a reference to or an echo of things past. On the contrary, the band has strived to infuse their own ideas and creativity into each motif. I think and I hear it this way that they’ve succeeded brilliantly. The graves are exhumed with the elegance of masters of their craft, and for me, it’s an honor to return to this recording again and again. What’s more, the album has this peculiar, unsettling, and doom-laden atmosphere that holds up a mirror to today’s twisted, uncertain, and corrupt world. This pack went right to the very essence of death, stripped everything down to the bone, and they pulled it off brilliantly. More bodies lie in the morgue. Victims of hatred. There is no hope left. Only darkness, evil, and fear. I kneel in the midst of nothingness. Torn to shreds and bleeding, I kept going, I kept fighting, but now I have no strength left. The world is far too evil, too filthy. Dark and morbid death metal that will tear you to shreds! Decay, filth, and death! The absolute decay of body and mind! An album that will seep into your subconscious!
