Ruiny kdysi prokletého kostela. Staré pohřebiště, na kterém byli pohřbíváni dlouhé roky ti, kteří v sobě měli zlo. Jakoby se všechno propadlo do země, do podsvětí. Vzduchem se stále vznáší nářek trpících a kamenný oltář je ušpiněn od zkažené krve. Atmosféra připomíná starodávné obřady pro vyvolávání temných sil. Poslouchám zrovna nové album chorvatských maniaků METUZALEM a stále dokola si říkám, že zde, na těchto pochmurných místech, vynikne nejlépe.
Kývám se spokojeně do rytmu, jako zombie, která právě vylezla z hrobu a touží po čerstvém mase. Chorvati mají na svém kontě ještě jedno album. Odkazy na recenzi i rozhovor naleznete dole pod dnešním článkem. Pánové pokračují ve své morbidní práci. Novinka byla stvořena hluboko v podzemí, v nekonečných chodbách Hádovy říše.
Líbí se mi masivní, prašivý a starosvětský zvuk, ale i motiv na obalu, který mě samozřejmě volně inspiroval k úvodu dnešní recenze. Po formální stránce zde všechno sedí na svých místech a vy se tak můžete v klidu soustředit na hudbu samotnou. Ta je naprosto ryzí, opravdová, dobře napsaná, surová a chladná, jako ruka mrtvoly. Pokaždé, když zapnu play, tak mám pocit, že se vracím po časové ose zpět, do devadesátých let, kdy jsem s tímto stylem začínal. Náš pohled na svět, můj i kapely, je zcela totožný, uctíváme stejné modly i postupy. Na METAZULEM se mi líbí, že se snaží do své tvorby vložit i spoustu svých nápadů a invence. Myslím si, vím to, že se jim to daří na výbornou. Pokud jsi fanoušek kapel jako ASPHYX, BENEDICTION, BOLT THROWER, MY DYING BRIDE, PARADISE LOST, ANATHEMA. Ano, kombinace prašivého death metal a mrazivého doomu, to je to, oč tu běží. Chorvatům se povedlo oba tyto mé oblíbené styly namíchat tak, aby bylo album zajímavé, dobře se poslouchalo a měl jsem chuť se k němu vracet. "Moribund Empire" je nahrávkou, která se mi zadřela hluboko pod kůži. A myslím si, že tam ještě dlouho zůstane. Neznám totiž nic lepšího, než počkat až se setmí a potom se vydat na hřbitov za městem. Je dávno opuštěný a mezi ruinami se vznáší velmi podobné nálady jako na této desce. Mám rád, když mě muzika rozdrásá zevnitř, když se stane mojí součástí. Mohu vám jen potvrdit, že pokud jste fanoušci tohoto stylu, nemrtví, prokletí nebo démoni, tak by vám rozhodně nemělo tohle album uniknout. Má v sobě totiž absolutně vše, co je potřebné pro autentické záhrobní rituály. Prašivý, nekonečně temný a chladný doom death metal z prokletých pohřebišť! Nahrávka, která vás převede na onen svět!

The ruins of a once-cursed church. An ancient burial ground where, for many years, those who harbored evil within were laid to rest. It’s as if everything has sunk into the earth, into the underworld. The wails of the suffering still linger in the air, and the stone altar is stained with corrupted blood. The atmosphere is reminiscent of ancient rituals for summoning dark forces. I’m currently listening to the new album by the Croatian maniacs METUZALEM, and I keep telling myself that it stands out best right here, in these gloomy places.
I’m swaying contentedly to the beat, like a zombie that has just crawled out of its grave and craves fresh flesh. The Croatians have one more album to their credit. I love the massive, gritty, old-school sound, as well as the cover art, which, of course, loosely inspired the introduction to today’s review. Formally speaking, everything here falls into place, so you can focus entirely on the music itself. It’s utterly pure, authentic, well written, raw, and cold like a corpse’s hand. Every time I hit play, I feel like I’m traveling back in time to the ’90s, when I first got into this style. Our view of the world both mine and the band’s is completely identical; we worship the same idols and follow the same methods. What I like about METAZULEM is that they try to infuse their work with plenty of their own ideas and creativity. I think no, I know that they’re doing an excellent job of it. If you’re a fan of bands like ASPHYX, BENEDICTION, BOLT THROWER, MY DYING BRIDE, PARADISE LOST, and ANATHEMA. Yes, the combination of gritty death metal and chilling doom that’s what it’s all about. The Croatians have managed to blend these two favorite styles of mine in a way that makes the album interesting, a pleasure to listen to, and something I want to keep coming back to. “Moribund Empire” is an album that has gotten deep under my skin. And I think it’ll stay there for a long time. There’s nothing I like better than waiting for darkness to fall and then heading out to the cemetery on the outskirts of town. It’s long been abandoned, and the atmosphere among the ruins is very similar to that on this album. I love it when music tears me apart from the inside, when it becomes a part of me. I can only confirm that if you’re a fan of this style whether you’re undead, cursed, or a demon you definitely shouldn’t miss this album. It has absolutely everything needed for authentic rituals from beyond the grave. Rusty, infinitely dark, and cold doom death metal from cursed graveyards! A recording that will transport you to the afterlife!
