Vesmírná odysea pokračuje. Vpravo zrovna zanikla další hvězda, vlevo další svět. Najednou se zdají být naše životy nicotné a pomíjivé. Hledáme jejich smysl a nakonec umíráme opuštění v šedivých pokojích. Někdy, když poslouchám hudbu, tak mám pocit, že je mi umožněno nahlédnout do jiné dimenze. Občas si připadám jako vetřelec, jindy se zase cítím, jako bych do ní patřil odjakživa. Muzika PHLEBOTOMIZED je opět o fantazii, o surfování na studených vlnách.

Když už progrese, tak v podobném provedení, prosím. Líbí se mi, že Holanďané skládají s ohlédnutím ke svým pevným základům. Tradiční myšlenky dále rozvíjejí, nechávají je plynout. Aranžují je do obrazů, které mohou být s klidem vystaveny v galeriích šílených malířů. Nenechte se ale mýlit, rozhodně se nejedná o dnes tolik častý chaos bez řádu. Naopak, nové EP "Pain, Resistance, Suffering" plyne s lehkostí, elegancí a vynikající řemeslnou zručností. 


Někdy mívám pocit, že někteří lidé chválí podobné kapely jenom proto, že jim příliš nerozumí. Nechtějí se dostat do úzkých. U PHLEBOTOMIZED to není potřeba. Jejich hudba je sice v některých momentech komplikovanější, ale vše je vyváženo a namícháno v dobrém poměru, netřeba mít strach z nepřehlednosti. Nápovědou pro poslech jsou odkazy na kapely typu MY DYING BRIDE, AT THE GATES, DEMILICH, NOCTURNUS, CONVULSE, které lze ve skladbách vystopovat. Nebo spíše jejich ozvěny, Holanďané mají svůj jasný, zřetelný a rozeznatelný rukopis. PHLEBOTOMIZED se mi letos opět trefili do vkusu. Aplikuji si je v momentech, kdy pozoruji zatmění měsíce, když přemýšlím o tom, kam celý náš prokletý svět směřuje. "Pain, Resistance, Suffering" si neskutečně užívám. Koneckonců, znáte mě, píšu a podporuji jen hudbu, o které si myslím, že je dobrá. Líbí se mi zvuk, obal, ale největší devizou jsou pro mě nápady. Jedovaté, chladné motivy, tiché našeptávání, smutek i strach. Vznešenost, pokora a hlavně vesmírný prach, který vás ochladí stejně jako songy na bod mrazu. Progresivní death doom metal, se kterým navštívíte jiné dimenze! Skvěle!

The cosmic odyssey continues. Another star has just disappeared on the right, another world on the left. Suddenly, our lives seem futile and fleeting. We look for their meaning and eventually die leaving the gray rooms. Sometimes when I listen to music, I feel like I'm allowed to look into another dimension. Sometimes I feel like an intruder, other times I feel like I've always belonged to her. The music PHLEBOTOMIZED is again about fantasy, about surfing on cold waves.

If it progresses, then in a similar design, please. I like that the Dutch compose with respect to their solid foundations. They further develop traditional ideas, letting them flow. They arrange them into paintings that can be safely exhibited in the galleries of mad painters. But make no mistake, it is definitely not such a common chaos without order today. On the contrary, the new EP "Pain, Resistance, Suffering" flows with lightness, elegance and excellent craftsmanship.


Sometimes I feel that some people praise similar bands just because they don't understand them very well. They don't want to get into trouble. This is not necessary for PHLEBOTOMIZED. Their music is more complicated in some moments, but everything is balanced and mixed in good proportion, there is no need to be afraid of clutter. Help for listening are links to bands such as MY DYING BRIDE, AT THE GATES, DEMILICH, NOCTURNUS, CONVULSE, which can be traced in the songs. Or rather their echoes, the Dutch have their clear, distinct and recognizable handwriting. PHLEBOTOMIZED hit my taste again this year. I apply them in moments when I observe a lunar eclipse, when I think about where our whole cursed world is heading. I really enjoy "Pain, Resistance, Suffering". After all, you know me, I only write and support music that I think is good. I like the sound, the cover, but the biggest motto for me are ideas. Poisonous, cold motives, quiet whispers, sadness and fear. Nobility, humility and especially cosmic dust that will cool you just like songs to freezing. Progressive death doom metal with which you will visit other dimensions! Great!

Občas se mi stává, že v tom velkém množství dnes produkované muziky, bývám ztracený. Jsem přejedený a nemám na nic náladu. Oceňuji hlavně ticho a dobrou knihu. Měl jsem zrovna podobné stavy. Potřeboval jsem vyčistit hlavu, přemýšlet nad něčím jiným. Po několika dnech mi ale začala hudba chybět. Nahoře na hromadě CD pro recenze leželo nové album francouzských ATHANATHEOS.

Pustil jsem si jej a po několika skladbách musel zase vše vypnout. Co to se mnou je? Vyhořel jsem? Přemohl jsem se a zkusil znovu. A byl nadšen. Odpočatý mozek najednou vnímal každý odstín, náladu, chvění. Album jsem si teď neskutečně užíval. Měl jsem co dělat, abych si nezarýval nehty do dlaní. 

 

Viděli jste někdy papír, který shoří ve větru? Nádhera co? Podobně na mě působí i "Prophetic Era (Or How Yahveh Became the One)". Základem je death metal, okořeněný doomem, ale i třeba blackem. Různé střídání poloh a nálad je dnes velmi častým jevem u progresivních kapel, ale Francouzi vše dovedli k dokonalosti. Harmonie. Přesně tohle slovo mě napadá nejčastěji. Není lehké složit chytlavou skladbu, není lehké předložit dobrý motiv, který by byl zároveň dobře poslouchatelný. Dívám se do ohně a sleduji plameny. ATHANATHEOS dokáží být zemití, divocí, potom během několika okamžiků zvolní a dodají nám naději. Co na tom, že za chvilku všechno shoří v plamenech drsného riffu? Přiznám se, že mě deska zpočátku vůbec nebavila. Měl jsem dokonce sepsánu velmi ostrou kritiku. Smazal jsem ji a začal znovu. Desce totiž nechybí ani energie, ani pestrá směsice nálad. Už dlouho jsem nezažil, že by na mě někdo dokázal přenést tolik emocí. O zvuku, obalu, produkci netřeba hovořit, vše je v pořádku. Tohle je album pro posluchače, kteří rádi přemýšlejí, mají bujnou fantazii a entuziasmus. Znáte ten pocit, když někdo drápy škrábe po zdi? Také vás z toho mrazí? S "Prophetic Era (Or How Yahveh Became the One)" to mám velmi podobné. Povznášející muzika!

Sometimes it happens to me that in the large amount of music produced today, I get lost. I'm overwhelmed and not in the mood for anything. I especially appreciate the silence and a good book. I just had similar states of mind like that. I needed to clear my head, think about something else. But after a few days, I started to miss music. At the top of the pile of reviews was a new album by the French ATHANATHEOS.

I played it and after a few songs I had to turn everything off again. What's the matter with me? Did I burn out? I overcame myself and tried again. And I was excited. The rested brain suddenly felt every hue, mood, tremor. I really enjoyed the album. I had to do something so that I didn't dig my fingernails into my palms.


Have you ever seen a piece of paper being burned in the wind? Beautiful right? The album “Prophetic Era (Or How Yahveh Became the One)” has a similar effect on me. The basis is death metal, spiced with doom but also black. Different changes of positions and moods are very common today in progressive bands, but the French have perfected everything. Harmony. This is exactly the word that comes to my mind most often. It is not easy to compose a catchy song, it is not easy to present a good motive that would also be easy to listen to. I look into the fire and watch the flames. ATHANATHEOS can be earthy, wild, then slow down in a few moments and give us hope. Who cares about the fact that in a moment everything will burn in the flames of a rough riff? I admit that at first I didn't enjoy the record at all. I even had a very sharp critique. I deleted it and started again. The album does not lack energy or a varied mix of moods. I have not experienced for a long time that someone could convey so many emoticons to me. No need to talk about the sound, packaging, production - everything is fine. This is an album for listeners who like to think, have a wild imagination and enthusiasm. Do you know the feeling when someone scratches their claws on the wall? Does it make you cold too? It's very similar to the "Prophetic Era (Or How Yahveh Became the One)". Uplifting music!

Také někdy máte pocit, že balancujete na ostré hraně? Spadnete na jednu stranu a rozpustíte se v kyselině a na druhé vás zase rozsekají ostré nože. Je krásné mít na výběr, ale když se potom vzbudíte z noční můry a nevíte, co je a co není pravda, jste zmatení. V podobných chvílích si potřebuji dát do žil dobrou hudbu. Něco temného, mocného, zničujícího. Dnes v noci jsme zvolil desku ruských maniaků HORROR GOD.

A vůbec mi nevadilo, že mě jejich hudba zcela pohltila, rozmělnila na prach a nakonec rozprášila za hřbitovní zdí. Kapela si mě získala mocným zvukem, ale hlavně náladami, pochmurnými, záhadnými, zastřenými krví. 


Stále dokola se rodíme a umíráme a dost často zapomínáme na to, že náš čas je přesně vyměřený. Zároveň jsme jen zrnko písku ve velkém vesmíru. Při poslechu "Cursed Seeds" mám podobné pocity, zvláštní, temné, zahalené ve tmě. V některých momentech kapela rozvíjí dřívější myšlenky kolegů GORGUTS, DEATHSPELL OMEGA, ULCERATE, REPLIKANT, AUGURY, PHOBOCOSM. Rusové mi ale přijdou přeci jen přívětivější, přehlednější a tím pádem se i velmi dobře poslouchají. Technika zde není samoúčelná, nejedná se o dnes tolik časté exhibice beze smyslu a řádu, ale o motivy s jasným cílem - všechno zabít a zničit. HORROR GOD jsou samozřejmě kapelou pro posluchače s bohatou fantazií a představivostí. Pravděpodobně nebudou okupovat přední místa v žebříčcích lesklých metalových časopisů. Hudba je ale jenom jedna a i když je "Cursed Seeds" nahrávkou z roku 2019, tak ji doporučuji vyzkoušet všem, kteří se rádi proplétají černými labyrinty. Vždyť balancovat na hraně je někdy tak napínavé, vzrušující. A tahle nahrávka si rozhodně zaslouží pozornost. Má v sobě totiž přesně ten ostrý feeling, který mám u kapel podobného typu tolik rád. Smrt!

Do you ever feel like you´re balancing on a sharp edge? You will fall on one side and dissolve in the acid and on the other side you will be cut by sharp knives. It's nice to have a choice, but then when you wake up from the nightmare and don't know what is and isn't reality, you are confused. At similar times, I need to put good music into my veins. Something dark, powerful, destructive. Tonight I chose the record of Russian maniacs HORROR GOD.

And I didn't mind at all that their music completely engulfed me, smashed me to dust, and finally scattered me behind the cemetery wall. The band won me over with a powerful sound but mainly with modos, gloomy, mysterious, clouded blood.


We are constantly born and dying and quite often we forget that our time is precisely measured. At the same time, we are just a grain of sand in a large universe. Listening to “Cursed Seeds” I have similar feelings, strange, dark, shrouded indarkness. At some point, the band develops the earlier ideas of colleagues GORGUTS, DEATHSPELL OMEGA, ULCERATE, REPLIKANT, AUGURY, PHOBOCOSM. But these Russians come to me more friendly, clearer and therefore they listen very well. The technique is not an end in itself, it is not a frequent exhibition without meaning and order. This is a motive with a clear goal - to kill and destroy everything. HORROR GOD are, of course, a band for listeners with a rich imagination. They probably won't occupy the top positions in the charts of shiny metal magazines. But there is only one music and even though “Cursed Seeds” is a record from 2019, I recommend trying it on everyone who likes to intertwine with black labyrinths. After all, balancing on the edge is sometimes so exciting. And this album definitely deserves attention. It has exactly the sharp feeling that I like so much for bands of a similar type. Death!

Recenze/review - TZUN TZU - The Forbidden City (2020)

Stále mám v sobě chuť objevovat nové kapely. Fascinuje mě stav mysli, kdy znám jenom jméno a název desky. Nahrávku si pustím, nic nikde dopředu nečtu a nechám ji na sebe působit. Takhle jsem to udělal i s australskými death metalisty TZUN TZU. Ihned se na mě vyhrnul z přehrávače technický smrtící kov, založený na brutalitě a chaosu. Surová, syrová hudba, která mě, aniž bych věděl, přenesla jako nějaká mantra daleko na východ. Byl jsem potom hodně překvapený, že kapela o Japonsku a Číně opravdu zpívá.

Hovořila ke mě nejdřív hudba. Připomínala mi živoucí organismus neznámého původu, ze kterého jde strach. Troufám si tvrdit, že některé pasáže jsou natolik složité, že zůstane jejich krása mnohým ukrytá. Nevadí, cesta i styl kapely byl nastaven dle mého správně. Nemohou hrát všichni stejně, no nemám pravdu? A TZUN TZU jsou rozhodně originálním tělesem. 


Je prostým faktem, že "The Forbidden City" vyžaduje soustředěný a hlubší poslech, což nevím, jestli v dnešní uspěchané době ocení širší publikum. Chce si to otevřít booklet, mít dobrou aparaturu a teprve potom vyniknou jednotlivé nuance. Mnozí nebudou vědět, co si s deskou počít, kam ji zařadit, budou zmatení. Je právě pět hodin ráno a jediné, co mě drží po probděné noci na nohou, tak je hudba. Novinku TZUN TZU si užívám, mám totiž pocit, že mě přenesla do zcela jiných dimenzí, než bývá většinou obvyklé. Kapela se sice občas nevyhne hlušším místům nebo mi to tak alespoň připadá, ale jako celek rozhodně nezklame. Techniky, progrese, je někdy příliš, ale zase na druhou stranu, jak se to vezme. Australané i přes složitost, s jakou hrají, neztratili feeling a drive. Zároveň mi deska připadá i svým způsobem temná, zákeřná. Kapelu budu rozhodně sledovat i do budoucna. Zjistil jsem totiž, že i přes počáteční ostýchavost se na každou další skladbu těším. Je pro mě ostrým hřebem, který mi někdo postupně zatlouká do hlavy. Dostane se mi až do mozku a začne tam hnít. Nepřipomíná vám to jeden druh japonského mučení? Nedivte se, technický brutální death metal v podání TZUN TZU je totiž přesně takový. Masakr!

I still feel like discovering new bands. I am fascinated by the state of mind where I only know the name and title of the album. I play the recording, I don't read anything in advance and let it affect me. This is how I did it with Australian death medalists TZUN TZU. Immediately, a technical deadly metal came to me from the player, based on brutality and chaos. Raw music that (without my knowledge) carried me away like a mantra far to the East. Then I was very surprised that the band really sings about Japan and China.

The music spoke to me first. It reminded me of a living organism of unknown origin that fears. I dare say that some passages are so complicated that their beauty remains hidden from many. It doesn't matter, the way and style of the band was set correctly in my opinion. They can't all play the same, can they? And TZUN TZU are definitely an original body.


It's a simple fact that “The Forbidden City” requires focused and deeper listening, which I don´t know if it's appreciated by a wider audience in today´s hectic time. You need to open the booklet, have good equipment and only then will the individual nuances stand out. Many will not know what to expect from the album, where to place it, they will be confused. It's just five o'clock in the morning and the only thing that keeps me on my feet after a sleepless night is music. I enjoy the new TZUN TZU, because I feel that it has taken me to completely different dimensions that are usually usual. The band sometimes doesn't avoid the worse places, or so it seems to me. But as a whole it will definitely not disappoint you. Techniques, progression - it might sometimes be too much. But again on the other hand how to take it. The Australians, despite the complexity with which they play, have not lost their feeling and drive. At the same time, the record also seems dark, insidious in a way. I will definitely watch the band in the future. I found out that despite the initial shyness, I'm looking forward to every other song. It is a sharp nail for me which someone gradually beats into my head. It gets into my brain and starts to rot there. Doesn't that remind you of one kind of Japanese torture? Don´t be surprised, technical brutal death metal performed by TZUN TZU is exactly like that. Massacre!

Recenze/review - MÆRE - I (2020)

Jako zlý sen, který se vám stále dokola vrací zpět. Noční můra, tak živá, hmatatelná. Nasáklá zkaženou krví, děsem a nihilismem. Taková je i prvotina německých black/death metalistů MÆRE. Vezme vás na dlouhý výlet bez konce. Do temných zákoutí lidské mysli, které nejsou ještě zcela probádány. Šílení by mohli vyprávět.

Šílená je i prvotina s jednoduchým názvem "I". Zpočátku vám bude připadat jako zvláštní kakofonie zvuků, chaoticky poskládaných vedle sebe. Já mám ale rád výzvy, s chutí poslouchám hudbu v různých stavech a náladách. Tentokrát musela být všude kolem tma, chlad a smutek. 

 

Myslím, že fanoušci třeba takových DEATHSPELL OMEGA, ULCERATE, AD NAUSEAM, IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT, GORGUTS, by mohli být spokojeni. Celkově se jedná o velmi povedený debut. Zvuk bych možná ocenil trošku hutnější, hrubější, ale to je jen drobnost, která mi nemůže zkazit jinak skvělý morbidní zážitek. Dlouhé výpravné motivy vás zavedou opravdu až někam do temných zákoutí vašich zlých snů. Odvrácená strana světa opět promluvila. Negace všeho, smrt v očích. Mám rád kapely, které ve mě dokáží probudit emoce, nenechají mě v klidu, donutí přemýšlet. MÆRE jsou smečka složená z muzikantů, kteří kdysi hrávali technický death metal (Ingurgitating Oblivion). Ti zúročili svoje zkušenosti, pootevřeli dveře do pekla a začali uctívat chaos a disonanci. Slabší jedince bude EP "I" deptat, některé možná i zničí. Nevadí, tady se hraje stejně pro hudební gurmány, pro milovníky dlouhých depresivních stavů. Pro všechny, kteří si užívají své noční můry. Vítejte v pekle, dveře jsou otevřeny, stačí jen vstoupit! Devastace lidské mysli!

Like a nightmare that keeps coming back. A nightmare, so alive, tangible. Soaked in rotten blood, terror and nihilism. This is how the first record of a German black/death metal heads MÆRE feels like. They will take you on a long endless trip. TO the dark corners of the human mind that have not yet been fully explored. The mad ones could tell stories.

The first record with a simple name “I” is also crazy. At first it will seem to you like a strange cacophony of sound, chaotically arranged side by side. But I like challenges, I like to listen to music in different states and moods. This time there must have been darkness, coldness and sadness all around.

I think that fans of bands like DEATHSPELL OMEGA, ULCERATE, AD NAUSEAM, IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT, GORGUTS could be satisfied. Overall, this is a very successful debut. I might appreciate the sound a little denser, rougher but that's just a trifle that can´t spoil my great morbid experience. Long narrative motives will really take you somewhere in the dark corners of your bad dreams. The other side of the world spoke again. Negation of everything, death in the eyes. I like bands that can arouse emotions in me, don´t leave me alone, make me think. MÆRE is a band of musicians who once played technical death metal (Ingurgitating Oblivion). THey used their experience, opened the door to hell and began to worship chaos and dissonance. Weaker individuals will be trampled by EP “I”, some may even be destroyed. It doesn't matter, it's played the same ways for music gourmets, for lovers of long depressive states. FOr all who enjoy their nightmares. Welcome to hell, the door is open, just enter! Devastation of the human mind!

Recenze/review - AD VITAM INFERNAL - Infernal Comedy (2020)

Lidé dokáží být hodně vynalézaví ve způsobech, jak mučit ostatní nebo jak jim odebrat život. Dle mého je nejhorší upálení. Nedovedu si představit, že bych byl přivázaný na hranici a mé nohy začaly olizovat plameny, mozek se začal škvařit v hlavě a mé modlitby by se postupně změnily ve zvířecí řev. S francouzskými death metalisty AD VITAM INFERNAL se setkávám poprvé. A hned mám popáleniny nejméně třetího stupně.

Ten tlak, který dokáže kapela vyvinout svými melodiemi je opravdu obrovský. Zpočátku se vše slévá v jeden monolit, možná působí i lehce monotónně. Ale nenechte se klamat. Oheň vás také nejdříve ožehne a teprve až po nějaké době spálí na popel. U "Infernal Comedy" bych si dával velký pozor, hrozí totiž samovznícení.


"Infernal Comedy" je pavučinou utkanou z death metalu, blacku i thrashe. Základem je poctivý smrtící kov staré školy, přidávána potom nadstavba z různých vlivů. AD VITAM INFERNAL jsou progresivní, ale takovým tím přirozeným, nenásilným způsobem. Rozhodně se nejedná o dnes tolik častou křeč. Kapela se nesnaží být "zajímavá" za každou cenu, skladby útočí syrově, bez příkras a zbytečností. Občas se sice vkrádá lehký stereotyp a to obzvlášť v rychlých pasážích, které by zasloužily trošku občerstvit. Ve volnějších chvílích kapela naopak exceluje a ničí vše živé v okruhu několika kilometrů. Pokud bychom hledali styčné body s jinými smečkami, určitě bych volil kupříkladu DIABOLIC, CENTURIAN, ANGELCORPSE, PERDITION TEMPLE. Měl bych ještě jednu drobnost, která mě trošku ruší a tou jsou bicí. Mám raději více živočišný, živý zvuk. Ale i přes mé malé připomínky se jedná o desku, která rozhodně stojí za pozornost. "Infernal Comedy" je opravdu zajímavou prvotinou, která by neměla uniknout každému poctivému fanouškovi death metalu. Navíc u ní shoříte jako kus papíru! Velmi dobře!

People can be very creative in ways to torture others or take their lives. In my opinion, the worst is burning someone alive. I can't imagine being tied to a stake and the flames start to lick my legs, my brains start to crumble in my head. My prayers would gradually turn into animal roars. I met French death metallers AD VITAM INFERNAL for the first time. And immediately have burns of at least third degree.

The pressure that the band can exert with their melodies is really huge. Initially, everything merges into one monolith, maybe even slightly monotonous. But don't be fooled. The fire will also burn you first and only after a while will it burnt to ashes. I would be very careful with “Infernal Comedy”, as there is a risk of spontaneous combustion.

“Infernal Comedy” is a spider web woven from death metal, black and thrash metal. The basis is the honest deadly metal of the old school, then a superstructure from various influences is added. AD VITAM INFERNAL are progressive, but in a natural and non-violent way. This is definitely not a common spasm today. The band does not try to be “interesting” at any cost. The songs attack raw, without embellishments and uselessness. Sometimes a slight stereotype creeps in, especially in the fast passages, which would deserve a little refreshment. In freer moments, on the other hand, the band excels and destroyed everything alive within a few kilometers. If we were looking for points of contact with other packs, I would definitely choose, for example, DIABOLIC, CENTURIAN, ANGELCORPSE, PERDITION TEMPLE. I would have another little thing that disturbs me a bit and that is the drums. I prefer a more animalistic, lively sound. But despite my little comments, this is a record that is definitely worth attention. “Infernal Comedy” is a really interesting debut that should not escape from any honest death metal fan. Plus, you'll burn like a piece of paper! Very good!

Kde je vlastně normální svět? Tady, uprostřed domu šílenství a nebo venku? Někdy si nejsem jistý. Spousta mých kolegů ve svěracích kazajkách mi připadá solidnější, než ti, které jsem potkal za zdí. Vadilo jim,  že zabíjím lidi. Ale proč? Copak zrovna někde neprobíhá válka, kde je to naprosto legální? Toulám se ve vzpomínkách a všude vidím jen krev, přetvářku a klam. Možná je problém v tom, že jsem nikdy nikomu nelhal. Ani svým obětem. 

Do hlavy nikomu nevidíme, někdy je soudit opravdu těžké, ale máme tu také hudbu, která nám umí na spoustu věcí odpovědět. Novinka indických progresivních, technických death metalistů DEAD EXALTATION dokáže méně zdatnému jedinci způsobit psychotický stav. Je totiž svým způsobem také šílená. Propracovaná, složitá a komplikovaná. Ale má rozhodně něco do sebe. 


Album "Despondent" mi počátku přišlo trošku roztříštěné, také jsem si musel zvykat na zvuk, ale nakonec musím s pokorou uznat, že je deska opravdu silným vývarem z lidských kostí. Brutální, přesto temná, chladná, zahraná se spoustou zajímavých momentů a zvratů, s nahrubo nasekaným zlem. Fanoušci třeba takových GOROD, SPAWN OF POSSESSION, CATTLE DECAPITATION, CYNIC, GORGUTS, CRYPTOPSY, ale i třeba CANNIBAL CORPSE by myslím mohli být opravdu spokojeni. Po nějakém čase, po spoustě poslechů, musím nakonec podepsat vlastní krví, že se mi album dostalo hluboko pod kůži. Nevím sice, jestli stále sedím uvnitř, v domě šílenství nebo už mě pustili ven, ale to nechám na jiných. Pro podobnou muziku musíte mít hlavu otevřenou, dar naslouchat a notnou dávku trpělivosti. Jednotlivé nuance totiž vylezou na povrch až po nějaké době. Netřeba nikam spěchat, Indové hrají ostře, náročně a podmaní si vás postupně. Jedná se o totální, propracovanou devastaci lidské mysli. O magicky přitažlivý technický, progresivní death metal. Jako bonus budete zaživa vyvrženi a zavřeni do starých kobek. DEAD EXALTATION nahráli absolutně zničující a mocnou desku!

"Despondent" je albem, které vychází ze stejných základů, na kterých staví podobné kapely typu GOROD, SPAWN OF POSSESSION, CATTLE DECAPITATION, CYNIC, GORGUTS, CRYPTOPSY, CANNIBAL CORPSE. Líbí se mi odlidštěná atmosféra, nahrávka mě nahlodává postupně, můj mozek je obráběn riffy z té nejkvalitnější oceli. DEAD EXALTATION často mění tempo, chvilku jsou klidní a nálada postupně graduje. Pak má novinka náhle drive, sílu, spoustu natlakované energie. Působí na mě jako dobrá sci-fi kniha z osmdesátých let, samozřejmě s moderním přístupem, zvukem a zajímavým obalem. Sklady jsou vystavěny pečlivě, s nadšením a cítím z nich temné chvění. Technický death metal má být o objevování nových zákoutí, má těkat, pálit a žhnout a Indové tohle všechno předvedli v tom nejlepším světle. Zpočátku bych sice nečekal, že mě album až tolik chytí, ale po několika společných strávených večerech mohu říci jediné - vynikající, skvělé, devastující! Ležím přivázaný ke stolu a postupně se přibližuji ke kotouči s ostrými noži. Hádejte jak to dopadne? Jasně, nakonec zvítězí hudba. Zničující technický death metal s temnou tváří! Velmi dobře!

"Despondent" is an album based on the same foundations as bands like GOROD, SPAWN OF POSSESSION, CATTLE DECAPITATION, CYNIC, GORGUTS, CRYPTOPSY, CANNIBAL CORPSE are built, too. I like the dehumanized atmosphere, the record erodes me gradually, my brain is crushed by riffs of the highest quality steel. DEAD EXALTATION often changes the tempo, they are calm for a while and the mood gradually increases. Then the new record suddenly has a drive, power, a lot of pressurized energy. It looks like a good sci-fi book from the 1980s, of course with a modern approach, sound and interesting front cover. The tracks are built carefully, with enthusiasm and I feel a dark trembling from them. Technical death metal is supposed to be about discovering new nooks, it should have been burning and glowing, and the Indians musicians have shown all this in the best light. At first, I wouldn't expect that this album catches me so much, but after a few evenings spend together I can say only - excellent, great, devastating! I lie tied up to the table and gradually approach the blade with sharp knives. Guess what will happen? Sure, in the end, the music wins. Destructive technical death metal with a dark face! Very good!

A few questions - interview with death metal band from India - DEAD EXALTATION.

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

Hello everyone. We are Dead Exaltation from Pune, India. We play techincal/progressive death metal. We formed the band back in the year 2015 when Aditya (drums) invited Satyajit(vocals) to jam with him and Mradul(our late guitarist) along with Sourjyo(ex-guitarist) and Anish(ex-bassist). The band was formed with the idea to play some tech death with hints of grooves and melodies. We were and still are one of the only death metal bands in the city to exist since 2015.


Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

The album was initially recorded at the home studio with Mradul recording the guitars and Aditya recording the drums on an electronic kit. Things however did not work out as the recording was not upto our expectations. So we got Aakash Sherpa from Anomaly Sound designs to come down to Pune and record the album. The drums were then recorded on a proper acoustic kit at Aditya’s studio followed by Mradul recording both guitars and bass at his home studio as by then Sourjyo and Anish left the band. The vocals were also recorded at Mradul’s home studio using an almirah as a vocal booth to absorb most of the noise. Both the guitars and bass were recorded with basic tones as Aakash and Mradul wanted to re-amp the instruments.

Aakash mixed and mastered the entire record.


How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

We printed a very limited 50 copies of our album in digipack version and released the album online through bandcamp. Bandcamp is a great tool for indie musicians and the response that we have recieved till now is amazing.The album is currently not on streaming sites and we have’nt taken a decison yet regarding putting the album up or not.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

Our vocalist Satyajit wrote the entire theme and lyrics of the band. The album talks about an inhumane prison being run privately by a psychotic warden. The prisoners are innocent people picked randomly from the streets and held captive. The album talks about loss of hope and comments bitterly on the callousness of those in power against those who cannot help themselves.


Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

The logo was made by Anirudh Singh from Nuclear Puke desings back in 2015. The album art is made by KidSquidy aka Aaron Pinto based upon the story of the last song which is also our title track Despondent. Since we cannot tour during these times, internet is biggest resource we have. Social media plays a huge role in the current scenario and we feel every band should make the full use of it. We made quite a lot of album snippets and promotional videos for our singles that were released and spread the word across all the platforms so as to reach maximum number of audience. Our PR also helped a lot in spreading the word by getting us on radio shows and podcasts. All the socail media promotions are handled by Satyajit

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

The album is released independently.


Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

Cryptopsy, Cattle Decapitation, Death, Cynic, Gorod, Dream theater and Suffocation have been our idols and a major source of inspiration for us

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

We did send the album out to major record labels but we did not hear anything back from them.


How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

We have played quite a few gigs across the country. India is not really a country where you can take a van and do a tour considering its size but lately bands have started touring in this country and playing shows.

We have not played much festivals but out of all the gigs we play, we think club gigs are good as the audience is really up close and it feels like we are part of them.


What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

For the future, we really dont know since Mradul passed away and its just Satyajit and Aditya left in the band but we will definitely do a tribute to Mradul tour in the future when things are safe to honour his legacy and make some more death metal.

Recenze/review - SPIRITUAL HOLOCAUST - Echoes of the Apocalypse (2020):

Ave SPIRITUAL HOLOCAUST! I haven’t found any interview in the Czech language with you, yet. So please, first introduce the band to our readers who don’t know you. You could start from the early beginnings and describe the whole SPIRITUAL HOLOCAUST history.

Spiritual Holocaust formed in 2010 in Raahe, Finland. First demo "Salute the Death" saw the daylight during the same year. 2013 "Kingdom of Cadavers" EP came out. It was our first release via record label. Soon after that we started to work with our first full-length album "Feast of Maggots". After some line-up changes and some difficulties it finally came out in 2017. It was important step for us. After that we became pretty activate. We played some gigs and worked with the 2nd album "Echoes of the Apocalypse". It came out last year. So ten years in short: one demo, one EP, two albums and some live shows. Our current line-up is: Tomi Vähäkangas - vocals, Vesa Hämäläinen - guitar, Janne Satokangas - guitar (the bastard who is writing this),  Antti Eilola - bass and Ville Yypänaho - drums. 


I’m just listening to your new record „Echoes of the Apocalypse“, and I feel like as if I am closed in some tomb together with DISMEMBER, NIHILIST, ENTRAILS, and INTERMENT. The recordhas a great Swedish sound. Where did you record it and how satisfied you are with it? Did you have the "last word" concerning the resulting sound?

Well, most of the album is recorded by ourselves. Drums we recorded in the real studio called Tuupa Records by Heikki Isokoski. He is the wizard of drum tones. It was pleasure to work with him again. Other instruments and vocals we recorded at home studios and rehearsal room. So there is a lot of DIY mentality on the album. So yes we had the "last word" for sure. We are proud of the result but we also know that we can improve our sound next time. 


How was the new material for album „Echoes of the Apocalypse“ created? How exactly SPIRITUAL HOLOCAUST writes the music? 

Well, I compose my songs at my home. I just take my guitar and start to jam and hopefully something comes out. If something cool comes out then I record it with my computer and if we are lucky we have a new song some day. I am not sure how Ville compose his songs but I think he do it pretty much the same way. We don't spend much time in rehearsal room together but that will change during the process of next album. Actually it has already started.


„Echoes of the Apocalypse“ has dark and morbid cover art. Who is an author? I really like his work. How did you actually choose the idea of the cover and what exactly illustrates?

The art is created by Alexey Sivitsky (GodLikeIkons). We just gave him some lyrics and the title "Echoes of the Apocalypse" and let him do the job. We have been working with him since the first full-length album "Feast of Maggots and we trust him. He is very talented artist. I am not sure what it exactly illustrates and that is cool. It leaves room for imagination. Perfect art for our album. 

Could you reveal us who is an author of the lyrics and what is their background?Where did you take inspiration for certain topics?

Most of the lyrics came from me this time. Vesa wrote some of the Worldwide Domination. Anyway, world is full of topics. Just watch the news if you know what I mean. The idea for the song can come from anywhere. I read quite a lot and watch a lot of movies and documentaries so some of the ideas come from there. I am also interested about history and there you can find a lot of topics. 


The new album was released by More Hate Productions. This label has a very good name in the undergroundscene and does a very good job. However, didn't you want to release a record in some bigger label? Did you ask some other label? How you are actually satisfied with More Hate Productions? 

More Hate Productions released our first full-length album too and everything went fine with that one so we wanted to continue with the same label. Simple as that. We are satisfied with More Hate Productions.

You play typical, classical Swedish old school death metal. You have never changed the direction,you are let's say „orthodox“. Personally, this is one reason why I like your music so much. But, didn’t you think about try to play something different, somehow to make the SPIRITUAL HOLOCAUST music more unusual? 

We don't think things like that much. We just go with the flow. There is no reason to chance the style. This is what we wanna do. That doesn't mean that we don't try new things. We do and if it sounds good we might use it. But this is death metal band and we keep it that way. 


When I look through your albums, you really made a long journey. It is obvious that you as a band are still working on yourself.How often do you rehearsal together? Are you a "hard-working" band, which practices regularly or are you more „punk“ in the rehearsal task? 

Totally punk. We are lazy bastards but as I mentioned before that will change. Hopefully we rehearse more than once in a month in the future.

In the case of your band, it is very good to see your development, each album is better, and you are also gradually better and better musicians. Do you have some goal, which you would like to achieve? Someone wants to release an album with a large label; other wants to play on one stage with some famous band. What about you? 

Are we?! Thanks! Our main goal is to have fun with this band. Of course we want to play more live shows. That is enjoyable. Sharing the stage with a famous band would be fantastic. We are small band so there is lot goals to achieve but in the end it is all about having fun together. After all we are fun loving guys. 


Can you recommend some new albums, which impressed you at the latest time? 

"Frontschwein" by Marduk. I know it is not new album but to me it is. But new ones.. Church of the Dead released self-titled album last year and that was really good. What else... oh yes! New album "Necroceros" from Asphyx is killer! Now I am waiting the upcoming album from Revulsion. 

Do you know and listen to some metal bands from the Czech Republic?

I have one album from Hypnos.. what was the name.. "In Blood We Trust". Honestly I haven't listen to it that much yet. I really should check what Czech Republic have to offer. Any recommendations?


We are slowly approaching the end of the interview so I would like to ask one more philosophical question. How would you define the Swedish death metal style? What represents this music for you and why did you choose exactly this genre? 

Maybe the genre chose us. Swedish death metal and death metal in general is fascinating. It is therapeutic to play heavy and groovy riffs very loud. It is fun. It is fun to listen to and see the bands alive. I love the genre. I am death metal fanatic so to speak. It is a huge part of my life. 

What SPIRITUAL HOLOCAUST is planning for the next few months? 

We keep working with the new material. That's all what we can do now during these weird virus times.
