Ave GOUGE! I’m listening to your new album “Pure Deathfuck” right now, and I’m thinking this is exactly what the music will sound like when the world ends. I think you’ve really pulled off a masterpiece. How do you feel about the new album? Have you gotten any feedback from fans yet? Have you played the new songs live yet? And how do they go over?

Aye aye from the abysmal Death Abyss! That’s a huge compliment and I feel much gratitude towards that. I’m happy it resonates. This album stands for total freedom. The release of all feelings and thoughts, to play out the end of the world or whatever you personally want to end. It’s been a huge help for me to have an arena in my life where I can play out a version of reality that should never happen – but also one that through history does happen more than one thinks. It’s very early in the process but the few feedback we have got has been positive. We have not played the songs live yet. That will happen at Hellbotn metal fest at Kolbotn in August.


How do new songs actually come about for GOUGE? Are you a traditional band that locks itself in the rehearsal room to write, or do you use the internet so popular these days and send ideas back and forth via email? I’m interested in the creative process itself.

Gouge is a very face-to-face band, the only thing that really goes over digitally are the text ideas. The text come from nowhere when it’s suddenly urgent to express something or when the most crazy idea pops in from nowhere. We typically meet with some riffs each of us and play them out in the rehearsal room, testing different feelings and attitudes. For the Pure Deathfuck album, I tried something new early in the process; I sat down and improvised short riffs and melodies, one riff at a time. No matter what came out, I added another or two more guitars. I put them together in different „songs“ with no structure to get the feeling of how it works together when you mix fast vs slow etc. – I guess mostly inspired by Acts of the Unspeakable. That worked well to not get locked into a typical „verse, chorus, verse“-structure, and it feels more resonant to the lyrical and visual expression which is too dark and insane to be structured.

The lyrics are a whole other story with GOUGE. What are they about on the new album, and where did you draw inspiration for them? On “Pure Deathfuck,” they complement the music beautifully. Which came first, the music or the lyrics?

That is a correct description of the lyrics! Haha. There’s something magical in the artistic expression of the personas on Autopsy’s Shitfun. That is the main inspiration. For once, I tried to consciously use Gouge as a place for total freedom and anger release. But the „twisted“ insane parts are more artistic, to create a mood, a small insight into crazy, sick minds. The music and lyrics come usually separately and then we find while working on it different things that fits better to scream here and there, and also which descriptions fits better to a certain riff – how to highlight or support the music/lyrics both ways.


I have to admit that the cover for “Pure Deathfuck” is excellent it fits the music perfectly! It literally gives you the creeps. How did you choose the cover, and who took the photo?

This is a photo from late 1800‘s after the Batak massacre in Bulgaria. It just resonated with me the first time I saw it. It was true, honest, brutal, horrible, and what resonated the most was the living people left in the situation, having to grapple with the existence of this unbelievable, morbid tragedy. What do you feel in that situation? What are you supposed to do? What kind of thoughts do you create about other people, humanity in general? What do you want to do to those who slaughtered your family? Who do you become? This part of history is not interesting to most people. They don’t really give a fuck about war. But they should. These are not ancient, forgotten acts. They happen constantly. Hundreds of millions of people all over the world are forced to live through unbearable situations. I don’t think we should look away from that.

The sound of the entire recording is great. It’s dark, cold, and sharp all at once. Which studio did you record the album in? Did you, as a band, have a say in the final sound and mastering?

It turned out better than expected. There are so many coincidences that make the sound. We just recorded ourselves at the youth club at the local school. We used my old drum set that we have used since the beginning (I got it in ca. 2006 for maybe 200 euro!). For the vocals, we have a track with the ambience from the hall. The guitars were just recorded on whatever was there. I believe we used 2-3 different mics at the same time to mix for strange guitar sounds. It worked pretty well in the end, but they could have been even more “present” in the sound – in the fast parts the guitar riffs are not really audible. But the big picture sound on the album is punching and screaming, so that’s a good result. We didn’t hear the masters until it was released on Spotify, so it will be interesting to hear the different formats.


The new album was released by the excellent Hells Headbangers Records. Why did you choose this particular label, and how satisfied are you with their work?

We chose them because we have experience with them. They are solid and deliver. They also gave us a good deal that is inspiring us to make more music as well, which is an important motivation.

The band’s history dates back to 2011. How did the idea to form GOUGE come about in the first place? Who were your role models? Please take us back in time and walk us through the band’s history! By the way, you aren’t exactly one of the most prolific bands. Why is that?

I believe Herman and I were sitting next to each other in IT-class in high school listening to music on headsets and just having some ideas about Repulsion-style music. The Repulsion demos were particularly important at that time for us, the mix of youthful punk and horrible seriousness (and serious horribleness). We were very productive at those early years, but got tired of that style and had many other projects and life changes going on. I guess around the time we stopped in 2014, we had Condor, Flight, later I had Black Viper, Black Magic, unreleased disco-project, etc.. Too many projects, and in general a personal style moving away from metal at that time. That was a very healthy break for me. I got back during covid, and it felt like extreme metal suddenly had a new dimension for me.


It’s really obvious how much you enjoy your music. Do you have any goals you’d like to achieve? For some, it’s a famous record label; others might want to play at a big festival.

If we have goals, it’s more as musicians. But Gouge does not have goals like that. The first goal is to express the ideas we have for a new EP or album and go beyond Pure Deathfuck. To find the right next path building on what we have. I am imagining another aftermath-theme, maybe include even more of a desolate black metal vibe underlying the death metal style.

Both members of GOUGE are also active in other bands. You’re experienced musicians, and I’d be curious to know who has the final say in your band? Who decides how a song will sound and look?

It never gets to the point where we need to argue about it (so far! Maybe we stab each other at the next rehearsal). It’s just death metal and as long as it’s close to what we imagine, we can drag and shape the specific ways of expressing it a lot.

What’s it actually like to play death metal in Norway? Do people come to your concerts? Do they support you, buy your CDs? When you organize an event, for example, how many people show up?

We haven’t played live in 10 years, so we have no experience with that. But death metal shows for sure have a crowd in Oslo and around. More internationally, they also support buying merch and albums.

Death metal is a demanding hobby and an even tougher lifestyle. What does it mean to you? What do you enjoy most about it, and how do you see it? How did you actually get into it?

I always enjoyed death metal since I was an early teenager. But these days I don’t live the slaughtering and deathfucking, mostly just making the music. I think death metal as a genre has a specific vibe that I don’t get anywhere else. At the same time, the different death metal styles on different albums are pretty incredible. So much can be done inside a similar style. I think the first albums I listened to were Soulside Journey, Obliteration – Total Fucking Obliteration, Suffocations debut, a few songs by Cannibal Corpse and everything by Autopsy I swallowed whole. It was always more about a certain vibe or mood for me – which means the riffs – It was not about the “death” etc. I had no idea what Suffocation were singing about anyway.

I ask this question to all bands on purpose, so they can get a little publicity for the future. Please tell us, what does GOUGE have planned in the near future? What can we look forward to? If you have something on your mind and would like to share it with fans, labels, or promoters, here’s your chance…

We are playing at Hellbotn at Kolbotn in August as mentioned. That is the only gig we have this year. There might be something in 2027, but not yet planned. We would love to play some gigs if it’s a good offer.

Ave GOUGE! Právě poslouchám vaši novinku „Pure Deathfuck“ a říkám si, že takhle nějak bude znít hudba, kterou budou hrát při konci světa. Myslím, že se vám povedl opravdu mistrovský kousek. Jaké jsou tvoje pocity z novinky? Máš už nějaké zpětné vazby od fanoušků? Hráli jste už nové skladby naživo? A jak fungují?

Hej, hej z propastné Smrtonosné propasti! To je obrovský kompliment a jsem za to velmi vděčný. Jsem rád, že to rezonuje. Toto album symbolizuje naprostou svobodu. Uvolnění všech pocitů a myšlenek, možnost zahrát si konec světa nebo cokoli, co si osobně přejete ukončit. Velmi mi pomohlo, že jsem v životě měl prostor pro verzi reality, která by se nikdy neměla stát – ale také takovou, která se v historii děje častěji, než si člověk myslí. Je to na začátku procesu, ale pár ohlasů, které jsme dostali, bylo pozitivních. Písně jsme ještě nehráli naživo. To se stane v srpnu na metalovém festivalu Hellbotn v Kolbotnu.


Jak vlastně vznikají nové skladby pro GOUGE? Jste tradiční kapelou, která se zavře do zkušebny a tam skládá nebo využíváte v dnešní době tolik oblíbený internet a posíláte si nápady emailem? Zajímá mě samotný tvůrčí proces.

Gouge je kapela, která hraje velmi přímočaře, jediné, co se skutečně digitálně projevuje, jsou textové nápady. Texty se objevují odnikud, když je najednou naléhavé něco vyjádřit, nebo když se odnikud objeví ten nejbláznivější nápad. Obvykle se každý z nás setká s několika riffy a hrajeme je ve zkušebně, testujeme různé pocity a postoje. U alba Pure Deathfuck jsem zkusil něco nového hned na začátku procesu; sedl jsem si a improvizoval krátké riffy a melodie, jeden riff po druhém. Ať už vzniklo cokoli, přidal jsem další nebo dvě kytary. Dal jsem je dohromady do různých „písní“ bez struktury, abych získal představu o tom, jak to funguje dohromady, když mixujete rychlé vs. pomalé atd. – myslím, že to bylo většinou inspirováno Acts of the Unspeakable. To fungovalo dobře, abych se neuzavřel do typické struktury „sloka, refrén, sloka“, a působí to více rezonančně s lyrickým a vizuálním výrazem, který je příliš temný a šílený na to, aby byl strukturovaný.

Samostatnou kapitolou jsou u GOUGE texty. O čem pojednávají na novém albu a kde jsi pro ně bral inspiraci? Na „Pure Deathfuck“ krásně doplňují muziku. Co bylo dřív, muzika nebo texty?

To je přesný popis textu! Haha. V uměleckém vyjádření postav na albu Shitfun od Autopsy je něco magického. To je hlavní inspirace. Pro jednou jsem se pokusil vědomě využít Gouge jako místo pro naprostou svobodu a uvolnění hněvu. Ale ty „zvrácené“ šílené části jsou umělečtější, pro vytvoření nálady, malého vhledu do šílených, nemocných myslí. Hudba a text obvykle vznikají odděleně a pak při práci na nich nacházíme různé věci, které se lépe hodí k zakřičení tu a tam, a také které popisy se lépe hodí k určitému riffu – jak hudbu/text zvýraznit nebo podpořit oběma způsoby.


Musím se přiznat, že cover pro „Pure Deathfuck“ je vynikající – sedne perfektně k hudbě! Jde z něj doslova strach. Jak jste obal vybírali a kdo je autorem fotografie?

Tohle je fotka z konce 19. století po masakru v Bataku v Bulharsku. Hned na první pohled ve mně zarezonovala. Byla pravdivá, upřímná, brutální, hrozná a nejvíc ve mně rezonovala existence živých lidí, kteří se museli vyrovnat s existencí této neuvěřitelné a morbidní tragédie. Co v takové situaci cítíte? Co máte dělat? Jaké myšlenky si vytváříte o ostatních lidech, o lidstvu obecně? Co chcete udělat s těmi, kdo povraždili vaši rodinu? Kým se stanete? Tato část historie většinu lidí nezajímá. Válka jim je vlastně úplně jedno. Ale mělo by je to zajímat. Nejsou to žádné starodávné, zapomenuté činy. Dějí se neustále. Stovky milionů lidí na celém světě jsou nuceny prožívat nesnesitelné situace. Myslím, že bychom se od toho neměli odvracet.

Skvělý je zvuk celé nahrávky. Je temný, studený a ostrý zároveň. V jakém studiu jste album nahrávali? Mluvili jste jako kapela do výsledného zvuku, masteringu?

Dopadlo to lépe, než se očekávalo. Je tam tolik náhod, které dělají ten zvuk. Nahráli jsme vše sami v mládežnickém klubu v místní škole. Použili jsme moji starou bicí soupravu, kterou používáme od začátku (sehnal jsem ji asi v roce 2006 za možná 200 eur!). Na vokály máme skladbu s ambientním zvukem z haly. Kytary jsme prostě nahráli na tom, co tam bylo. Myslím, že jsme použili 2-3 různé mikrofony najednou, abychom mixovali podivné kytarové zvuky. Nakonec to fungovalo docela dobře, ale mohly být ve zvuku ještě více „přítomné“ – v rychlých částech nejsou kytarové riffy moc slyšet. Ale celkový zvuk na albu je úderný a křičící, takže to je dobrý výsledek. Mastery jsme slyšeli až po vydání na Spotify, takže bude zajímavé poslechnout si různé formáty.


Nové album vyšlo u vynikajících Hells Headbangers Records. Proč jste si vybrali právě tento label a jak jste s jeho prací spokojeni?

Vybrali jsme si je, protože s nimi máme zkušenosti. Jsou solidní a plní svoje povinnosti. Také nám dali dobrou nabídku, která nás inspiruje k tvorbě další hudby, což je důležitá motivace.

Historie kapely se datuje do roku 2011. Jak vůbec vznikl nápad založit GOUGE? Kdo byl vaším vzorem? Zavzpomínej pro nás prosím a proveď nás historií kapely! Mimochodem, nepatříte zrovna k příliš plodným kapelám. Proč tomu tak je?

Myslím, že jsme s Hermanem seděli vedle sebe na hodině informatiky na střední škole, poslouchali muziku do sluchátek a prostě jsme přemýšleli o hudbě ve stylu Repulsion. Dema Repulsion byla v té době pro nás obzvlášť důležitá, ta směs mladistvého punku a hrozné vážnosti (a vážné hroznosti). V těch raných letech jsme byli velmi produktivní, ale ten styl nás unavil a měli jsme spoustu dalších projektů a životních změn. Myslím, že zhruba v době, kdy jsme v roce 2014 přestali, jsme měli Condor, Flight, později jsem měl Black Viper, Black Magic, nevydaný disco projekt atd. Příliš mnoho projektů a obecně osobní styl, který se v té době odkláněl od metalu. To pro mě byla velmi zdravá přestávka. Vrátil jsem se během covidu a cítil jsem, jako by extrémní metal najednou pro mě dostal nový rozměr.


Na vaší kapele je hrozně vidět, jak vás vaše muzika baví. Máte nějaký cíl, kterého byste chtěli dosáhnout? Pro někoho to je slavné vydavatelství, jiný si chce třeba zahrát na velkém festivalu.

Pokud máme cíle, tak spíše jako hudebníci. Ale Gouge takové cíle nemá. Prvním cílem je vyjádřit nápady, které máme pro nové EP nebo album, a jít nad rámec Pure Deathfuck. Najít tu správnou další cestu, která bude stavět na tom, co už máme. Představuji si další téma po skončení death metalu, možná bychom do něj zahrnuli ještě více zoufalé black metalové atmosféry, která je základem death metalového stylu.

Oba členové GOUGE působí i v jiných kapelách. Jste zkušení muzikanti a mě by zajímalo, kdo má u vás v kapele hlavní slovo? Kdo řekne, jak bude skladba znít a vypadat?

Nikdy se to nedostane do bodu, kdy bychom se o tom museli hádat (zatím! Možná se na příští zkoušce navzájem píchneme). Je to prostě death metal a dokud je to blízké tomu, co si představujeme, můžeme si specifické způsoby jeho vyjádření hodně upravovat.

Jaké to vlastně je, hrát death metal ve Norsku? Chodí u vás lidi na koncerty? Podporují vás, kupují CD? Když třeba uspořádáte nějakou akci, kolik přijde lidí?

Nehráli jsme naživo 10 let, takže s tím nemáme žádné zkušenosti. Ale death metalové koncerty v Oslu a okolí určitě mají davy. V mezinárodním měřítku také podporují nákup merchandise a alb.

Death metal je náročný koníček a ještě těžší životní styl. Co znamená pro tebe? Co tě na něm nejvíc baví a jak jej vnímáš? Jak si se k němu vlastně dostal?

Death metal mě bavil už od raného puberty. Ale dnes už nežiji masakrem a deathfuckingem, hlavně dělám hudbu. Myslím, že death metal jako žánr má specifickou atmosféru, kterou nikde jinde nenajdu. Zároveň jsou různé death metalové styly na různých albech docela neuvěřitelné. V rámci podobného stylu se toho dá dělat tolik. Myslím, že první alba, která jsem poslouchal, byla Soulside Journey, Obliteration – Total Fucking Obliteration, debutové album Suffocation, pár písní od Cannibal Corpse a všechno od Autopsy, ty jsem spolkl celé. Vždycky mi šlo spíš o určitou atmosféru nebo náladu – což znamená riffy – nešlo o „smrt“ atd. Stejně jsem neměl tušení, o čem Suffocation zpívají.

Tuhle otázku dávám záměrně všem kapelám, aby si udělali trošku propagaci do budoucna. Prozraď nám prosím, co chystají GOUGE v nejbližší době? Na co se můžeme těšit? Pokud máš něco na srdci a chtěl bys to vzkázat fanouškům, labelům, promotérům, tak zde je prostor…

Jak už bylo zmíněno, hrajeme v srpnu v Hellbotnu v Kolbotnu. To je jediný koncert, který letos máme. Možná bude něco v roce 2027, ale zatím to neplánujeme. Rádi bychom odehráli nějaké koncerty, pokud by to byla dobrá nabídka.

Další postava klečící na cestě. Obličej v dlaních, v očích bolest a utrpení. Tělo rozdrásané do krve. Připomíná to křížovou cestu. Lidstvo se za dobu své existence příliš nezměnilo. Zlo má mnoho podob a ďábel neustále mění svoji tvář. Ztrácíme se mezi tím, co je dobré a co zlé. Umíráme a rodíme se. Vše je uzavřené v kruhu, ze kterého není úniku. Jsem pokaždé rád, když potkám na svých toulkách podzemím kapelu, která řeže do živého, která mě umí strhnout do hlubiny. MANSVARA přicházejí z polského podsvětí a hrají temně krvavý black death metal.

Jsem starý pes, který hlídá vstup do podsvětí již několik dekád a vždycky se mi na metalové hudbě líbila hlavně atmosféra. Chodíval jsem na jeden starý hřbitov a představoval si u náhrobků, jaký měli mrtví život a smrt. Kýval jsem se do rytmu nového alba, užíval jsem si jednotlivé motivy, křičel jsem do tmy. Kapela do mě postupně zasekla svůj dráp a už mě nepustila. 


Pokud bychom potom měli tvorbu této smečky (letošní novinka je debutem) k někomu přirovnat, určitě bych zmínil jména jako MGLA, UADA, KRIEGSMACHINE, GAEREA, PLAGA. Kapela samozřejmě čerpá i ze staré norské a švédské školy a navíc přidává spoustu svých nápadů, invence a zajímavých momentů. Jako celek je album ocelí, která je ukována z toho nejkvalitnějšího železa. Ať už se podíváte na novinku z jakékoliv stránky, vše je v absolutním pořádku. Chladný a nekonečně temný zvuk, zajímavý motiv na obalu, který vás donutí k zamyšlení. Všechno sedí krásně morbidně na svých místech. Hlavní je ale muzika samotná a ta vás doslova omotá pevnými, mrazivými pavučinami. Budete klečet na cestě života, s obličejem v dlaních a vaše tělo bude rozdrásáno do krve. MANSVARA sází na silné melodie, na skladby jako takové. Nebojí se hledat nové cesty, objevovat další a další temná zákoutí a myslím si, že se jim to daří na výbornou. Nové album "Sable Odes to Nihility" není rozhodně na jeden poslech, vyžaduje čas, klid. Má to jednu obrovskou výhodu, při každém společném setkání objevuji nové momenty, nápady a neskutečně si to užívám. Jakoby mě někdo řezal ve staré kobce, zavřeného a spoutaného, každým riffem přímo do masa. Novinka se mi zadřela do podvědomí, koluje mi v žilách a stala se i mojí součástí. Kapela mě přikovala na zeď, upálila mě na hranici. A udělala to velmi elegantně a zkušeně. Melodie plynou samozřejmě, jako zpěněná, krvavá voda v řece smrti. Za mě osobně nemůžu jinak, než album doporučit všem tmářům. Jsem prokletý! Temný, řezající, chladný black death metal, který vás strhne do hlubiny! Album, které se vám zadře do podvědomí!

Another figure kneeling on the path. Face in his hands, pain and suffering in his eyes. His body torn to shreds. It resembles the Stations of the Cross. Humanity hasn’t changed much over the course of its existence. Evil takes many forms, and the devil is constantly changing his face. We lose ourselves between what is good and what is evil. We die and we are born. Everything is enclosed in a circle from which there is no escape. I’m always glad when, on my wanderings through the underworld, I encounter a band that cuts to the quick, that can drag me into the depths. MANSVARA hail from the Polish underworld and play dark, bloody black death metal.

I’m an old dog who’s been guarding the entrance to the underworld for several decades now, and what I’ve always loved most about metal music is the atmosphere. I used to visit an old cemetery and stand by the gravestones, imagining what kind of lives and deaths the dead had led. I swayed to the rhythm of the new album, savoring each motif, screaming into the darkness. The band gradually sank its claws into me and never let go. 


If we were to compare this band’s work (this year’s release is their debut) to anyone else, I would definitely mention names like MGLA, UADA, KRIEGSMACHINE, GAEREA, and PLAGA. The band naturally draws from the old Norwegian and Swedish schools, while also adding plenty of their own ideas, creativity, and interesting moments. As a whole, the album is steel forged from the finest iron. No matter how you look at this new release, everything is absolutely perfect. A cold and infinitely dark sound, an intriguing cover design that makes you think. Everything fits beautifully and morbidly into place. But the main thing is the music itself, and it will literally wrap you in solid, icy cobwebs. You’ll be kneeling on the path of life, face in your hands, and your body will be torn to shreds. MANSVARA relies on strong melodies, on the songs themselves. They aren’t afraid to seek new paths, to discover more and more dark corners, and I think they’re doing an excellent job of it. The new album "Sable Odes to Nihility" is definitely not the kind of thing you can just listen to once; it requires time and peace of mind. It has one huge advantage: every time I listen to it, I discover new moments and ideas, and I enjoy it immensely. It’s as if someone were cutting into my flesh with every riff, right in an old dungeon, where I’m locked up and chained. This new release has lodged itself in my subconscious; it courses through my veins and has become a part of me. The band has nailed me to the wall, burned me at the stake. And they did it with great elegance and skill. The melodies flow naturally, like foamy, blood-stained water in the river of death. Personally, I can’t help but recommend this album to all you dark souls. I am cursed! Dark, cutting, cold black death metal that will drag you into the depths! An album that will burrow into your subconscious!

Je to až komické. Za svého života si byl plný síly, neustále ses usmíval. Teď už je to všechno jedno. Smrt každého změní k nepoznání. Nakonec z tebe zbyl jen kus zahnívajícího masa. Když tě přivezli na pitevnu, ihned jsem tě poznal. Pamatuješ, kdysi dávno, když jsme byli malí, tak si mi ublížil. Teď vezmu do rukou pilu a začnu řezat tvoje nebohé kosti. Rozemelu tě na prach, spálím na popel a rozházím do hlíny. Zrovna poslouchám nové demo od polských MANGLED RECREMENT a jsem ve svém živlu. Ruce mám ponořené do vnitřností a neskutečně si užívám morbidní atmosféru, která se vznáší kolem.

Tahle kapela je složena z členů smeček jako Leucotome a Toughness. Je vám tedy asi jasné, že se tady hraje opravdově, reálně, surově, od srdce a naprosto autenticky. Pánové ohlodali smrtící kov až na kost. Neznají žádné kompromisy, světlo při poslechu rozhodně neuvidíte. Tahle kapela vám vystřelí mozek z hlavy. 


Na rovinu, takhle se hrálo v dobách, když jsem s death metalem začínal a když jsme si vyměňovali špatné kopie na kazetách. Poláci vás vezmou na výlet po časové ose zpět a dělají to velmi elegantně a s krvavým pohledem i nadšením starých patologů. Připadám si, jako bych navštívil nějakou morbidní galerii. Vystavená těla jsou znázorněna přesně v momentu, kdy odešla z tohoto světa násilnou smrtí. Zastřelení, oběšení, podříznutí, znásilnění. Procesy hnití byly zakonzervovány a vypáleny do skladeb jako děsivé svědectví o tom, čeho všeho jsme jako druh schopni. Zmínit musím naprosto prašivý a masakrující zvuk i stylově vyvedený motiv na obalu. Kapela se volně inspirovala u smeček jako AUTOPSY, UNDERGANG, IMMOLATION, MALIGNANT ALTAR, MORBIFIC, TERRORIZER, GORGUTS. A udělala to zkušeně i přidala velkou spoustu svých nápadů. Demo je sice zatím jen ochutnávkou syrového masa podávaného na víku od rakve, ale také příslibem do budoucna. Tuhle polskou kapelu se rozhodně vyplatí sledovat. Dostanete totiž přesně to, co má každý poctivý fanoušek smrtícího kovu rád. MANGLED RECREMENT jsou sice novým jménem v podzemí, ale už teď po sobě zanechávají hlubokou krvavou stopu. Na nic si nehrají, spíše řežou přímo do živého. Demo doporučuji všem prokletým, všem patologům, maniakálním řezníkům i všem, kteří rádi tráví svůj čas v naprosté tmě. Je to až komické. Za svého života jsem byl plný síly, neustále jsem se usmíval. Teď už je to všechno jedno. Smrt každého změní k nepoznání. Nakonec je ze mě jen kus zahnívajícího masa. Kruté, smradlavé death metalové ozvěny ze zvrácených patologických sálů! Demo, které vás vyvrhne zaživa!

It’s almost comical. In life, you were full of vigor, always smiling. Now none of that matters anymore. Death changes everyone beyond recognition. In the end, all that’s left of you is a piece of rotting flesh. When they brought you to the morgue, I recognized you immediately. Do you remember, long ago, when we were little, how you hurt me? Now I’ll pick up a saw and start cutting through your poor bones. I’ll grind you to dust, burn you to ashes, and scatter you into the dirt. I’m listening to the new demo from the Polish band MANGLED RECREMENT right now, and I’m in my element. My hands are buried in entrails, and I’m absolutely loving the morbid atmosphere that hangs in the air.

This band is made up of members from groups like Leucotome and Toughness. So you can probably tell that what they play here is real, raw, heartfelt, and completely authentic. These guys have stripped deadly metal down to the bone. They know no compromise; you definitely won’t see any light while listening. This band will blow your brains out. 


To be honest, this is how it was back when I was getting into death metal and we used to swap crappy cassette copies. The Poles take you on a journey back in time, and they do it very elegantly, with the bloodthirsty gaze and enthusiasm of old pathologists. I feel like I’ve visited some kind of morbid gallery. The bodies on display are depicted precisely at the moment they left this world by violent death. Shot, hanged, slit open, raped. The processes of decay have been preserved and burned into the songs as a terrifying testimony to everything we as a species are capable of. I must mention the absolutely filthy and brutal sound, as well as the stylistically executed cover art. The band drew loose inspiration from acts like AUTOPSY, UNDERGANG, IMMOLATION, MALIGNANT ALTAR, MORBIFIC, TERRORIZER, and GORGUTS. And they did so skillfully, adding a great deal of their own ideas. While the demo is just a taste of raw meat served on a coffin lid for now, it also holds promise for the future. This Polish band is definitely worth keeping an eye on. You’ll get exactly what every true fan of death metal loves. MANGLED RECREMENT may be a new name in the underground, but they’re already leaving a deep, bloody trail behind them. They don’t beat around the bush; they cut straight to the bone. I recommend this demo to all the damned, all the pathologists, maniacal butchers, and everyone who likes to spend their time in total darkness. It’s almost comical. Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

Hey, we are Mangled Recrement, founded in 2024 by Lucas and Trumna (guitarist and drummer) to play some rotten, raw death metal in Lublin's basements. Inspired by the recent spews of the death metal underground and oldschool classics, we present our vision of this versatile genre combining tangled riffing with straightforward raw sound.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

We have only recorded a demo record for now, which was done all by ourselves. The drums were recorded by the drummer at his place, and we finished the rest in our rehersal space to capture the basement reeking raw sound that we have written the songs in. Ziemowit (our bassist) has some experience in recording and has also helped us by mixing the record.


How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

For now, the demo is released by Caligari records on the tape format, limited to 150 copies, with the label fitting our sound and image very well.

We are looking forward to release it on CD at some point in the future.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

I (Lucas) have written all the lyrics, and they are honestly mostly coming from my imagination. I come up with them once the song vibe is estabilished, basing them on the title. My imagination is fueled by some horror movies and works of other classic death metal and goregrind bands.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

The logo and the artwork was done by the mighty Marc Necrohelm. We felt like his style would fit our raw sound, and it was the best choice we could make. We are really happy with how he did it, and had no doubts he would do a great job.

We feel like social networks are quite important to reach the right audience. We dont feel like we need to stuff our music in everyone faces. Releasing the record in the right labels, and keeping the social accounts active to inform the fans about live shows and new releases is all that we use those outputs for.


Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

As I have mentioned before, we have picked Caligari records, and we are really happy they have agreed to release our music. We have been following the label for some time and knew that our sound will fit it very well. We are very satisfied with how everything is going so far, with Caligari records taking care of the promotion and physical release very smoothly and effectively.

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

I (Lucas) have been into the new underground scene for some time, taking my inspirations from the contemporary takes on oldschool death metal. Bands like Morbific, Torture Rack, Undergang or Malognant Altar infulenced our music and most importantly shown that there is still a lot to explore in this genre, while keeping it raw and extreme. I have also took a lot of inspiration from goregrind and gore-death metal bands like Carcass, General Surgery or Dead Infection, but you can hear more of that in our band Leucotome.

Ziemowit: There are tons of inspirations ranging from progressive rock to extreme metal. Definitely King Crimson, Jimmy Johnson's work with Allan Holdsworth, Alex Webster's ideas in both Cannibal Corpse and Blotted Science, Colin Marston's escapades in Dysrhythmia and early Indricothere, and many more. Sometimes the ideas for lines are purely mathematical, based on harmony, which I'm rather fond of exploring

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

We have tried reaching out to a couple of labels that we felt like would fit our sound. Some of them are Extremely Rotten Productions, Me saco un ojo or Headsplit records.


How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

With Mangled Recrement we have only played one show in our hometown, which went really well and we are looking forward to presenting our music more often for larger audiences in the future.

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

As a band we are definitely aiming to play more gigs, and release a LP soon, defining our sound even clearer. We hope that will give us opportunities to play abroad and grow a bigger audience to play for.

Přemýšleli jste někdy o tom, proč vlastně posloucháte muziku? Proč máte rádi death metal a další extrémní styly? Mě vždycky přitahovala temnota a chlad, takové to těžko vysvětlitelné chvění, které připomíná těžké chvíle před bouří, když jsou ve vzduchu elektrické výboje. Švédští SARCASM to se mnou vždycky uměli. Mají svůj nezaměnitelný rukopis, výraz. Poznáte je podle několika prvních tónů. Navíc se jako kapela nebojí lehce experimentovat.

Každé nové album je trošku jiné, přesto má stále jasně znatelnou značku téhle severské legendy. Novinka mě doslova přikovala na zeď. Opět. Stál jsem ve svém pokoji, ani jsem si nestihl sednout, tak jak to většinou dělám. Najednou jsem nebyl doma, ale někde vysoko v horách. Do obličeje mě udeřil ledový vítr, nemohl jsem dýchat, lapal jsem po dechu. Jakoby se mi jednotlivé skladby usadily hluboko v kostech, v podvědomí. Staly se mojí součástí. O tomhle je pro mě muzika a death metal. O emocích, o síle, o předané energii. Jsem ztracen. 


Celým novým albem se vine jako jedovatý břečťan taková zvláštní melancholická nálada. Smutek i naděje, naprostá tma, samota. Hlavou mi létají myšlenky jako zběsilé, aby se po nějaké době usadily a já se spokojeně kýval do rytmu. Je znát, slyšet, že v téhle smečce jsou velmi talentovaní muzikanti, kteří hrají opravdově, upřímně, ryze a naprosto autenticky. Stále, i po více než 35 letech v podzemí, si myslím, že nejlepší alba jsou ta, která jsou zahraná od srdce. Zkrátka a dobře, SARCASM věřím všechno. Studený, dobře čitelný a drásavý zvuk, motiv na obalu, ale i jednotlivé pasáže, které se mi postupně dostaly pod kůži i do podvědomí. Vždycky se tětím na víkend, až zmizím v lesích za naším domem. Toulám se se sluchátky na uších, nasávám mrtvolnou atmosféru starých pohřebišť, navštěvuji rozpadlé ruiny. Také vám, moji milí čtenáři, připadá, že tahle kapela je každým novým albem lepší a lepší? Mě ano, novinka je dle mého skromného názoru k dokonalosti vybroušeným death metalovým drahokamem. Stojím zase jednou na skále a dívám se dolů do hlubiny. Přemýšlím, o čem je vlastně život a o čem smrt? "Lifeforce Omnibound" je na opravdu velmi vznešeným, majestátním, přitažlivým albem, které má v sobě i vášeň a touhu starým mistrů v oboru. Kdyby ještě žili mí staří kamarádi z devadesátých let, tak bych jim novinku pustil a nemuseli bychom vůbec mluvit. Jen bychom kývali souhlasně hlavou a užívali si příliv skvělým nápadů a melodií. Sleduji tuhle legendu již dlouhé roky, pod dnešní recenzí naleznete odkazy na předchozí nahrávky, skvělý rozhovor a jako starý poctivý fanoušek mohu napsat jen jediné - je to tam, novinka je vynikající po všech stránkách! Have you ever wondered why you listen to music? Why do you like death metal and other extreme genres? I’ve always been drawn to darkness and coldness—that hard-to-explain shiver that reminds me of the heavy atmosphere before a storm, when there’s electricity in the air. The Swedish band SARCASM has always had a way with me. They have their own unmistakable style and sound. You can recognize them from the very first few notes. Plus, as a band, they aren’t afraid to experiment a little.

Every new album is a little different, yet it still bears the clearly recognizable mark of this Nordic legend. The new release literally pinned me to the wall. Again. I was standing in my room; I didn’t even have time to sit down, as I usually do. Suddenly, I wasn’t at home, but somewhere high up in the mountains. An icy wind hit me in the face; I couldn’t breathe, I was gasping for air. It was as if the individual songs had settled deep in my bones, in my subconscious. They became a part of me. This is what music and death metal are about for me. About emotions, about power, about the energy transmitted. I am lost.


A peculiar melancholic mood winds its way through the entire new album like poisonous ivy. Sadness and hope, utter darkness, loneliness. Thoughts race through my head like mad, only to settle down after a while, leaving me contentedly swaying to the rhythm. You can tell, you can hear, that this band is made up of very talented musicians who play with genuine, sincere, pure, and utterly authentic passion. Even now, after more than 35 years in the underground, I still believe that the best albums are the ones played from the heart. In short, I believe everything SARCASM does. A cold, clear, and jarring sound; the cover art, as well as individual passages, gradually seeped under my skin and into my subconscious. I always look forward to the weekend, when I disappear into the woods behind our house. I wander with headphones on, soaking in the deathly atmosphere of old burial grounds, visiting crumbling ruins. Do you, my dear readers, also feel that this band gets better and better with every new album? I certainly do; in my humble opinion, this new release is a death metal gem polished to perfection. Otevírám staré rezavé dveře a vstupuji dovnitř. Ihned mě pohltí temnota a obejmou chladné, pevné pavučiny. Začne mě mrazit v zádech. Stoletá kobka, dosud ukrytá v ruinách starého hradu, vydala další ze svých svědectví. Byla tu kdysi mučírna, lidé zde umírali hladem, roztržení, zohavení, znásilnění. Ve jménu víry, ve jménu jediného boha. Poslech prvního dlouhohrajícího alba katalánských maniaků STENCH OF SORCERY vás vrátí po časové ose zpět.

Death metal v podání těchto tmářů je velmi propracovaný, melodický a zároveň surový a naléhavý. Když jsem slyšel nahrávku poprvé, musel jsem si sednout a jen jsem nábožně poslouchal. Strhla mě energie celé desky, zahalila mě do černého pláště a stal se ze mě cestovatel v čase. Cítil, vnímal jsem celým svým tělem i podvědomím, že tu mám co do činění s opravdu velmi zajímavou a dobře složenou a napsanou hudbou. Koneckonců, posuďte sami, poslechněte si ukázky. 


První, co vás doslova uhodí do obličeje, tak je zvuk. Podepsán je pod ním mistr Dan Swanö a Unisound Studio. Zvuk je masivní, ostrý, velmi dobře čitelný a dynamický. Dodává celé nahrávce další rozměr. Osobně se mi líbí i motiv na obalu, který se k muzice krásně hodí. Nejzajímavější je ale hudba samotná. Španělé ctí klasické death metalové postupy, zhlédli se v severské škole, ale přidávají velkou spoustu svých nápadů a hlavně melodií. Podupávám si nohou do rytmu, křičím spolu s kapelou do tmy, jednotlivé skladby se mi dostávají postupně pod kůži i do podvědomí. Každý song má v sobě motiv, který řeže do živého. Navíc, a to je pro mě jako vždy velmi důležité, je kapela opravdová, ryzí, uvěřitelná a naprosto autentická. Ne, najednou nejsem ve svém pokoji, ani nechodím ulicemi našeho města, jsem ve starých ruinách, ve kterých je do zdí otištěna bolest a utrpení. Určitě si prostudujte i texty, rozhodně stojí za to. Osobně se mi hrozně líbí i vokál, práce s hlasem Luís Vargas je jedním slovem vynikající. STENCH OF SORCERY letos přicházejí s albem, kterému nechybí vůbec nic. Jsou pro mě velkým překvapením i důkazem, že i v dnešní době můžete potkat v podzemí opravdu zajímavé kapely. "The Palegold Menace" je přesně tím druhem alba, které je na povrchu chladné a hoří zevnitř. Každým dalším poslechem roste a zadírá se mi hluboko pod kůži i do podvědomí. Otevírám staré rezavé dveře a vstupuji dovnitř. Ihned mě pohltí temnota a obejmou chladné, pevné pavučiny. Začne mě mrazit v zádech. Stoletá kobka, dosud ukrytá v ruinách starého hradu, vydala další ze svých svědectví. Na stěnách visí prašivé mrtvoly prokletých. Ano, teď už to vím, jsem zde správně. Brána do temnoty je otevřena! Syrový a chladný death metal, který vás provede naprostou tmou! Staré ruiny vydaly další děsivé svědectví!

I open the old, rusty door and step inside. Darkness engulfs me at once, and cold, stiff cobwebs wrap around me. A chill runs down my spine. The century-old dungeon, long hidden within the ruins of the old castle, has revealed yet another of its secrets. This was once a torture chamber; people died here of starvation, torn apart, mutilated, raped. In the name of faith, in the name of the one true god. Listening to the first full-length album by the Catalan maniacs STENCH OF SORCERY will take you back in time.

The death metal delivered by these dark masters is highly sophisticated, melodic, yet raw and urgent. When I heard the recording for the first time, I had to sit down and just listen reverently. I was swept away by the energy of the entire album; it enveloped me in a black cloak, and I became a time traveler. I felt, I sensed with my whole body and subconscious, that I was dealing with truly very interesting and well-composed and written music. After all, judge for yourself listen to the samples. 


The first thing that literally hits you right in the face is the sound. It’s the work of master engineer Dan Swanö and Unisound Studio. The sound is massive, sharp, crystal-clear, and dynamic. It adds another dimension to the entire recording. Personally, I also like the cover art, which fits the music perfectly. But the most interesting part is the music itself. The Spaniards honor classic death metal techniques, drawing inspiration from the Nordic school, but they add a whole lot of their own ideas and, above all, melodies. I’m tapping my foot to the beat, screaming along with the band into the darkness, and the individual songs are gradually getting under my skin and into my subconscious. Every song has a motif that cuts to the quick. Moreover, and this is, as always, very important to me, the band is genuine, pure, believable, and completely authentic. No, suddenly I’m not in my room, nor am I walking the streets of our city; I’m in ancient ruins where pain and suffering are imprinted on the walls. Be sure to check out the lyrics as well they’re definitely worth it. Personally, I really love the vocals; Luís Vargas’s vocal delivery is, in a word, outstanding. STENCH OF SORCERY are releasing an album this year that has absolutely everything. They’re a huge surprise to me and proof that even today, you can still find truly interesting bands in the underground scene. "The Palegold Menace" is exactly the kind of album that’s cold on the surface but burns from within. With every listen, it grows on me and burrows deep under my skin and into my subconscious. I open an old, rusty door and step inside. Immediately, darkness engulfs me and cold, solid cobwebs wrap around me. A chill runs down my spine. A century-old dungeon, hitherto hidden in the ruins of an old castle, has revealed another of its secrets. The walls are hung with the dust-covered corpses of the damned. Yes, now I know for sure I’m in the right place. The gate to darkness is open! Raw and cold death metal that will guide you through utter darkness! The ancient ruins have revealed yet another terrifying testimony!
