A few questions - interview with death metal band from Poland - CHAINSWORD.

Answered Herr Brummbar and Wütender Ente, thank you!

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

Herr Brummbar: Chainsword was forged back in 2016 by Herr Feldgrau. Not much later Wutender Ente and I joined. We had some line-up changes on the way, but since 2019 it’s been stable and we managed to record „Blightmarch“.
Wütender Ente: Herr Feldgrau asked me if I wanted to join his sunday Bolt Thrower worship choir. How could I refuse? Since then our style evolved a lot, but you can still hear how it all started. I would describe our style as death metal soundtrack to a war. Works well with games too.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

Herr Brummbar: Due to the pandemic, we had to take some precautions. Especially with the guitars, most of it was done by the guys separately, only with some online reviews by the band. The drums were recorded in Nebula Studio, the rest in Primate 666 Studio and the mix and mastering was done by the one and only Haldor Gruenberg from Satanic Audio.

How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

Herr Brummbar: Right now we only have digital and CD releases, but the little birds are already chirping about a vinyl, sooo.... time will tell.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

Herr Brummbar: Most of them were done by me, but there are no restraints on the other guys who want to contribute. „Dead Hand Call“ is like 100% Wutender Entes song, including the music, the title track is Herr Feldgraus. We deal with war in general. I’m more into WWI and II, but we have some WH40K buffs on board, so that also reflects on the record.

Wütender Ente: Herr Brummbar did most of the work. During breaks in rehearsals we talk a lot about history and games, so after making a new song we usually sit down, exchange some war stories we read this week and suddenly H.B has new lyrics done in no time.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

Herr Brummbar: The logo is a piece of art by the Lord Ov Logos Christophe Szpajdel. The main artwork was done by our good friend Wilson German Arietta and it is magnificent. And social media? It’s not our bread and butter, but now, after a year long lockdown, it’s the only way to reach anyone. It hurts, but has to be done.

Wütender Ente: Artwork and logo were made not long after first songs and reflect the course we set for ourselves nicely. As for social media: I hate it but they are useful and need to be maintained. It’s not like we can drive a tank into someone’s house and force them to listen to our music. Unfortunately.

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

Herr Brummbar: Gods Ov War is not huge, but takes great pride in the bands they release, which, in consequence, means that they do A LOT and take plenty of care about the bands in their roster. We’re really satisfied and thankful for the amount of work GOW has done for us.

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

Herr Brummbar: That’s a question you’d have to ask all the guys separately. At this point I cannot say what band or artist is my main inspiration, there’s too many to spell’em out here. I do however listen to loads of stuff quite distant style-wise from what we play with Chainsword.

Wütender Ente: My Dying Bride, Bolt Thrower, Black Sabbath, Mourning Beloveth - those were my early inspirations, but anything from death metal or doom metal goes. Then also some progressive stuff (Opeth, Rush, Arcturus, lately Yes) or classics (Led Zeppelin, Slayer, but also random old stuff). If a band does it all it’s even better.

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

Herr Brummbar: By the time GOWP said they’re interested in releasing us, we’ve not considered any other label. This one’s just perfectly suited for us and the effects are amazing.

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

Herr Brummbar: we had a few great ones, but not many. As soon as we managed to stabilize our line-up and got to serious work on the material for the album, the fucking pandemic blew up and live shows got cancelled altogether. I don’t really think we’ve reached our peak live performance level yet, so the best ones are still to come. In the meantime, we practice, write new stuff and want to be ready to destroy any stage, once the music business comes back to life.

Wütender Ente: “The last one was best.” - normally I would say. But now we had to play online, with no crowd. It’s not the same, so let’s hope we can spread the sound of war to some live audience this year.

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

Herr Brummbar: We want to write good tunes, do a worthy follow-up to „Blightmarch“ and, finally, play live. As for the rest – high hopes the future will reward our hard work.

Wütender Ente: Write more and better stuff.

How and where can your fans contact you? Can you provide some contact information?

Herr Brummbar: You can find us on Bandcamp, Facebook, Instagram... we’re everywhere! The contact info can be found there, or you can just DM us directly.

Thanx for the interview.

Herr Brummbar: Thank you!
Wütender Ente: こちらこそ
