Asi jako na každého na mě občas lezou chmury. Uzavřu se do sebe a nechce se mi s nikým mluvit. Štvou mě rozesmáté tváře, dav který v pravidelných intervalech vesele pulsuje ulicí jako živý organismus. Copak nikdo nechápe, že zrovna nemám náladu? Většinou potom volím úplně jinou muziku, než obvykle. Nasávám raději atmosféru lesních pěšin, vyhledávám skrytá místa, kam nikdo nechodí. 

Dnes mi nebylo nejlépe, připadal jsem si, že na mě všechno padá. Ale, je zde pověstné ale. Španělští DORMANTH hrají melodický death metal, který poslední roky příliš nemusím. Tentokrát mi ale sedli do nálady. Venku počasí předstírá šedivou zimu a je na čase se vydat do deště a sychravé mlhy. 


Moc dobře vím a slyším, že tohle tady bylo snad milionkrát. Ne že by tomu tedy bylo v jiných stylech jinak, ale musím uznat, že DORMANTH mě umí přikovat k přehrávači. Jejich skladby, ve stylu třeba takových PARADISE LOST, AMORPHIS, AMON AMARTH, IN FLAMES a INSOMNIUM, jsou pro mě takovým chladivým osvěžením. Nějak podvědomě cítím, že už jsem dobrý melodický death metal po dlouhé době potřeboval. Je to jako vzpomínky na sever, na pravou zimu se sněhem a ledem. Na staré švédské kapely, které dobývaly svět. Někoho album bude možná nudit, ale znáte to pořekadlo o sto chutích? Nemůžu popřít, že pánové rozumí svému řemeslu, songy odsýpají a mají potřebný drive. Navíc je mi sympatická barva zpěvákova hlasu. Nečekejte zázraky, on melodický death metal není dávno v kurzu, ale mě se líbí, jak se kapela ke své práci staví. Cítím zde odhodlání, kompas také ukazuje vždy na sever. Abych to nějak shrnul, tak nemám s nahrávkou sebemenší problém. Asi nebude v mých top tohoto roku, ale když bude chuť a půjdou na mě chmury, tak myslím, že po ní sáhnu pokaždé rád. Hudba je koneckonců hlavně o náladách, emocích, chuti a chvění. A to na "Complete Downfall" dle mého naleznete. Velmi dobře!

Oceňuji, jak si kapela hraje s melodiemi, že skladby mají jasný smysl a cíl. Pamatuji si je, cítím a prožívám spolu s kapelou jednotlivé nápady, motivy, melodie. Občas se DORMANTH možná až moc zamyslí, jsou příliš rozvláční (a i zaměnitelní s jinými - kdo ale není?), ale podobná hudba se také musí poslouchat v klidu a pohodě. Texty plné bolesti jen dodávají desce další rozměr. "Complete Downfall" mě opravdu velmi mile překvapila. Je zajímavá, neotřelá, jiná. Není dokonalá, ale možná proto ji oceňuji ještě víc. Je totiž jako samotný život. Smutná, hravá, temná, zlostná. Je i dobrým řemeslem, hudbou, která mě nenechává v klidu. Předané emoce létají mezi mnou a přehrávačem jako noční můry kolem lamp. DORMANTH vykročili správným směrem a nahrávku lze porovnávat minimálně s evropskými skupinami. V obrovské metalové řece mě španělští maniaci svojí deskou zaujali. Nasměřujte i vy svoji tvář na sever, uvidíte, že se vám bude ve vichřici jménem "Complete Downfall" líbit! Velmi dobrý melodický death metal s mrazivou přidanou hodnotou navíc!

I appreciate how the band is playing with the melodies and that the songs have a clear sense and purpose. I remember them, I am able to feel and live together with the band their individual ideas, motifs, melodies. Sometimes DORMANTH may think too much, they are too ragged (and interchangeable with others – but who is not?), but such music also must be listened to in peace and quiet. Painful lyrics just give to the record another dimension. "Complete Downfall" really surprised me very much. It's interesting, fresh, and different. It's not perfect, but maybe that's the reason why I appreciate it even more. It is like life itself. Sad, playful, dark, and angry. It's also a good craft, a music that does not leave me calm. Emotions are flying between me and the player as nightmares around the lamps. DORMANTH has stepped forward in the right direction and album can be compared at least with European groups. In the massive river of Metal the Spannish maniacs caught me with this record. Also you direct your faces on the north and you will see that you will like the storm called "Complete Downfall"! Very good melodic death metal with extra freezing added value!

Přemýšleli jste někdy o tom, co se dělá s těly, které nemají žádné pozůstalé? U nás na hřbitově to chodí tak, že se chvíli skladují v márnici a když se jich nashromáždí víc, tak vezmu motorovou pilu a zbytek vám je asi jasný. Mrtvých je moc a místa málo, to je pravidlo každého starého hrobníka. Kosti praskají, lebky pukají a já poslouchám novou desku britských MORDHAU. Přemýšlím, co měli mrtví za život a postupně přidávám hlasitost. Riffy řežou stejně jako motorová pila, atmosféra je hodně podobná.

Mám rád death metalové podsvětí, protože v něm mohu stále, i po více než třiceti letech, objevovat nové kapely. MORDHAU patří k vyvoleným. Líbí se mi zvuk nahrávky, vnitřní pnutí, které ze skladeb cítím i odhodlání, které je slyšet z každého tónu. Navíc je album poctivě chladné, stejně jako mlhavá rána na hřbitově. 

 

Britové hrají podobným způsobem, jako to dělávaly a dělají kapely typu DISMEMBER, ENTRAILS, GRAVE, ENTOMBED, NIHILIST, CARNAGE. Povedlo se jim hudbou znázornit pravou, ryzí smrt ze Švédska. Chřestí se pytlem plným kostí, vokál se občas blíží až black metalu. Budete strženi do víru studených melodií. MORDHAU sice čerpají je starých osvědčených zdrojů a nepřinášejí do katakomb nic nového, ale nahrávka se velmi dobře poslouchá, rád a s chutí se k ní vracím a užívám si ji. Obzvláště ve chvílích, kdy jsem donucen porcovat opuštěná těla. "Immaculate Massacre" je mým průvodcem záhrobím. Potkáváme spolu duše zemřelých, jsme navěky prokleti a uvrženi do nekonečné tmy. Mám v oblibě desky, ze kterých cítím emoce, odhodlání, touhu ničit. Toulám se starými katakombami, rád a často exhumuji opuštěné hroby a přemýšlím, kdy nastane i můj čas. Ještě je brzy, ale zatím se mohu připravit. Z desky žhnou starodávné vibrace z devadesátých let. Je pro mě kusem zkaženého masa, podávaném na víku od rakve. Masakr v márnici. MORDHAU se mohou s klidem pyšnit ochrannou známkou kvality - old school swedish death metal! Zabijácké album!

Have you ever wondered what is done with bodies that have no survivors? In our cemetery, it's like they are stored in the morgue for a while, and when more of them accumulate, I take a chainsaw and the rest is probably clear to you. There are too many dead and few places, that is the rule of every old gravedigger. The bones crack, the skulls pop and I listen to a new record of British MORDHAU. I wonder what the dead had for their lives and gradually add volume. Riffs are cut just like a chainsaw, the atmosphere is very similar. 

I like the death metal underworld because I can still discover new bands in it, even after more than thirty years. MORDHAU belongs to the chosen ones. I like the sound of the recording, the inner tension that I feel from the songs and the determination that can be heard from every tone. In addition, the album is honestly cold, as is a foggy blow in the cemetery.


The British play in a similar way as bands like DISMEMBER, ENTRAILS, GRAVE, ENTOMBED, NIHILIST, CARNAGE do. They managed to depict the music, the real, pure death from Sweden. Asparagus with a sack full of bones, vocals sometimes approaching black metal. You will be drawn into a whirlwind of cold melodies. Although MORDHAU draws on them from old proven sources and does not bring anything new to the catacombs, the recording very well listens, I like to return to it with pleasure and enjoy it. Especially when I'm forced to slice abandoned bodies. "Immaculate Massacre" is my guide to the grave. We meet the souls of the dead together, we are cursed forever and cast into endless darkness. I like records from which I feel emotions, determination, the desire to destroy. I roam the old catacombs, gladly and often exhume abandoned graves and wonder when my time will come. It's still early, but I can get ready for now. Ancient vibrations from the 1990s glow from the record. It's a piece of rotten meat for me, served on the coffin lid. Morgue massacre. MORDHAU can easily boast a trademark of quality - old school Swedish death metal! Killer album!

A few questions - interview with death metal band from United Kingdom - MORDHAU.

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.? 

Hi! We are Mordhau from Nottingham in the UK. The band was formed in March-April 2017. We play dirty, noisy, metal with an obvious nods to Swedish Death Metal. The band consists of: 

Matty - Vocals 

Sean and Jamie - Guitars 

Brett - Bass 

Nick - Drums 

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering? 

We recorded the album between January and March of 2020 at the Moot Group Headquarters in Nottingham, England. We were ably assisted by the Mighty Johnny Carter and his engineer of Doom, Andy Jones. The album was produced, mixed and mastered all at the Moot Group HQ. With their assistance, we were able to hone our sound and create something we are really very proud of. 


How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)? 

We're are on our first run, so initialy there was a release of just 100 CD’s, which have now mostly all been sold. The album has also been released on Bandcamp and should now be available on all major streaming platforms. When we get to the point of being able to gig again, there will be another run of CD’s. 

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with? 

Lyrical duties were undertaken by myself (Matty) and for me mostly the songs represent a thought process that helps me personally deal with the world around me. To that effect, I tend to write about death and what comes after, the potential of the void, Time, how it remains constant despite who perceives it or how, and generally what I perceive to be evils within society, in light of which we're powerless to do much but scream about. This album particularly features no running themes, but we have spoken as a band about a running concept and that might be something we see worked in on a future release. 


Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important? 

Our logo was designed and executed by the great Gary Ronaldson of Bite Radius Designs. A friend of Jamie's, he went on to design an album cover based on an idea that we gave to him in a mash-up of word soup and daydreams. Clearly he understood as the products themselves, logo & album cover, came out exactly as we imagined. We are ever grateful! 

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you? 

We ended up choosing to self-release this album. Releasing a DIY album and seeing how far we could take it was something we all agreed we wanted to do, and now here it is! To be fair, it's very much what we know. As far as we could see, we'd already recorded the album, commissioned the artwork, printed the CD - what we really wanted to do was a big release show, a decent tour on that album and to attract some interest in our future that way, but the world said no due to covid. Things don't always go as planned but we're very happy with the response we've had despite what direction we've chosen. 


Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration? Like with most bands, we get inspiration from a lot of great bands! 

To mention a few, in completely random order Carcass, Deathspell Omega, Emptiness, Satyricon, Darkthrone, The Monolith Deathcult, YOB, Akercocke, Black Sabbath, Zeppelin, At The Gates, The Haunted, Dismember, Entombed, Gorefest... The list could go on and on but collectively, we listen and are inspired by lots of bands from lots of different rock/metal genres from all over the world. 

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response? 

We all agreed that we wanted to a self release for our debut release, so had no real urge or desire to send to record labels. We have been approached by a few Indy labels since, with some interesting propositions... We may do something with those guys in the near future... 


How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best? 

We have only played 17 gigs so far! 2020 was set to be the year that we toured our album Immaculate Massacre. We had plenty of gigs already lined up.... But ... everyone knows what happened to live music in 2020.... As for gig preferences, we would love to do a festival! Close, intimate gigs are where we are currently at! 


What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band? 

Our immediate plan is to gig and promote the album! We were ready to hit the road back in Jan 2020. As soon as we can, we will be playing live again. Long term, we already have a lot of new material kicking around that we want to start working on, as soon as that’s done.... a follow up album! Then... who knows?

Anders de la Motte je mým soukromým objevem loňského roku. Chvála padá na doporučení od strýčka Googla, který mi knihu stále ve svých reklamách nutil. Něco málo jsem si o spisovateli přečetl a protože mám severské krimi moc rád, nebylo co řešit. Podzimní případ je první knihou autora v mé sbírce a rovnou trefou do černého. Hlavní představitelka Anna je tak nějak v mém věku, má podobné radosti s puberťačkou a často mi doslova mluvila z duše. A starý příběh maturantů, kteří kdysi v jednom lomu provedli něco hrozného? Skvělé téma. Na člověka doslova dýchla nostalgie. Navíc, spoustu podobných zážitků máme každý z nás. 

Celý příběh je doslova podmanivý a tajemný. Malé městečko ve Švédsku. Postavy jak vystřižené ze sousedství. Starý příběh se krásně proplétá se současností. Autor se občas otře i o problémy dnešního světa a já s ním v mnohém souhlasím. Je hrozně důležité, abych čtenému textu věřil a panu Andersovi hltám každé slovo. Pro mě osobně skvělý autor a velké doporučení pro všechny fanoušky severských detektivek. Bývám s výběrem nových jmen poměrně opatrný, ale celá řada od Anderse de la Motteho je jedním slovem vynikající. Zase je co číst a o to tu jde především:)).

Nový napínavý příběh Anderse de la Motte dobyl ve Švédsku vrchol žebříčku bestsellerů. Pět dlouholetých kamarádů stanuje u zatopeného kamenolomu ve Skane. Letos odmaturovali, teď čeká je poslední letní koupání a potom skutečný život. Když se však rozední a spustí se první podzimní déšť, jeden z nich leží v temné vodě mrtvý. Nešťastná náhoda, uzavře to policie, mnozí v Nedanasu však pochybují. Když se sem o dvacet sedm let přistěhuje Anna Vesperová, kriminalistka, která prchá ze Stockholmu před vlastní tragédií, dají se události do pohybu. Zatímco Anna zoufale střeží svá tajemství, čím dál mocnější síly se jí snaží bránit v rozkrývání minulosti. Nakonec nemá na vybranou. Musí znovu otevřít případ z podzimu roku 1990, o němž chce málokdo mluvit… ale nikdo na něj nezapomněl.

Několik metrů v podzemí, hluboko ve zmrzlé hlíně, leží stará rakev. Dlouho spala spánkem, který se zdál být věčný a nekonečný. Hnilobné procesy dávno začaly. Zpřerážené kosti ležely vyrovnané vedle sebe. Lebka se smála do ticha nicoty. Pohřbený zaživa za svého života hodně vytrpěl. Jenže to ještě nekončilo. Ještě jej čeká dlouhá a těžká cesta záhrobím. Prokletý, zavržený, s cejchem vypáleným hluboko do žeber.

Při hudbě, jakou hrají STASS, se podobné mrtvoly znovu probouzejí k životu. Vylézají z hrobu, aby si poslechli pravý a nefalšovaný švédský death metal. "Songs Of Flesh And Decay" je druhým dlouhohrajícím albem kapely a jsou pod ním podepsáni zkušení a protřelí muzikanti - Rogga Johansson (Paganizer, Ribspreader, Revolting, Down Among The Dead Man) a Felix Stass (Crematory). Hrají způsobem, který jim koluje v krvi. Hlasitě, chladně, s odhodláním, které lze nalézt pouze na severu.


"Songs Of Flesh And Decay" je deskou, která je plná klasických, tradičních švédských melodií (ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, NIHILIST, ENTRAILS, GRAVE). Zvuk je náležitě prašivý, riffy řežou do těch nejcitlivějších míst a nezapomíná se ani na melodie, u kterých se vám do vnitřností vkrade chlad. Začnou vám hlodat v břiše, kroutit a pálit a pokud máte tento styl rádi, tak se s chutí ihned vydáte na nejbližší hřbitov. Vykopete si vlastní hrob, zavzpomínáte na devadesátá léta minulého století a budete čekat na všechny zombie, které při poslechu vylézají z děr. Jsou splněny všechny náležitosti, hudba na albu odsýpá jako lavina z kostí a zbytků tkání. STASS sice nepřinášejí nic nového, ale předkládají skvělé řemeslo s pomyslnou touhou ničit navíc. Jsou jako buldozer, který si nekompromisně razí cestu. Zůstává po nich jen spálená země. Vzpomínám na staré dobré časy a jsem spokojen. Do tohohle hrobu totiž patřím odnepaměti. Až navěky amen. Od "Songs Of Flesh And Decay" očekávejte starý poctivý švédský death metal s vlastním výrazem. Nic více, ale ani méně. Těším se, až mě znovu zase pohřbí zaživa. Tuhle nahrávku si vezmu s sebou. Na onen svět. Poctivá hrobařina!

A few meters underground, deep in the frozen clay, lies an old coffin. Coffin that slept for a long time in a slumber that seemed eternal and endless. The rotting processes have started long time ago. The broken bones lay side by side. The skull laughed into the silence of nothingness. Buried alive during his life, he suffered a lot. But it wasn't over yet. He still has a long and difficult journey through the grave. Cursed, rejected, with a mark burned deep into the ribs. 

With music like STASS, similar corpses come to life again. They climb out of the grave to listen to real and unadulterated Swedish death metal. "Songs Of Flesh And Decay" is the band's second full-length album and features experienced and seasoned musicians Rogga Johansson (Paganizer, Ribspreader, Revolting, Down Among The Dead Man) and Felix Stass (Crematory). They play in a way that circulates in their blood. Loud, cold, with a determination that can only be found in the north. 

"Songs Of Flesh And Decay" is a record full of classic, traditional Swedish melodies (ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, NIHILIST, ENTRAILS, GRAVE). The sound is duly dusty, the riffs cut into the most sensitive places and we don't forget the melodies, where the cold creeps into your guts. They will start gnawing at your stomach, twisting and burning, and if you like this style, you will immediately go to the nearest cemetery. You will dig your own grave, you will remember the nineties of the last century and you will be waiting for all the zombies that come out of the holes when listening. All the requirements are met, the music on the album pours like an avalanche from bones and tissue debris. STASS may not bring anything new, but they present a great craft with an imaginary desire to destroy. They are like a bulldozer that is making its way uncompromisingly. All that remains is scorched earth. I remember the good old days and I am satisfied. I have belonged to this grave since time immemorial. Forever amen. From "Songs Of Flesh And Decay" expect old honest Swedish death metal with its own expression. Nothing more, but no less. I'm looking forward to burying me again. I'll take this record with me. To the other world. Great gravedigger's work!

Naučil jsem se za poslední roky cestovat časem. Alespoň v hudbě. Představuji si, že se napiju jedovatého lektvaru, který mě vrátí po časové ose zpět. James McBain z britských HELLRIPPER je na tom hodně podobně jako já. On je jediným členem kapely a dokáže přenést pradávné black thrash metalové postupy i do dnešních dní. Pokud máte rádi poctivý metal s prašivou patinou, tak neváhejte ani chvilku.

O HELLRIPPER jsem psal již kdysi dávno, dokonce máme spolu i krátký rozhovor (vše níže pod článkem). Hele já vím, že se podobných smeček poslední dobou vyrojilo jak hub po dešti a 90% stojí za víte co. Většinou si poslechnu jen pár skladeb a jdu od toho. Není čas na zbytečnosti, když tu máme novou desku "The Affair of the Poisons". Najednou se toulám s kamarády v džínových vestách někdy na konci osmdesátých let sídlištěm. Hergot, to má grády! Metal vole!

 

Poslouchám novou desku, zrovna jsem přišel z práce a mám chuť vzít do ruky kladivo a jít zbourat nejbližší zeď. Taky k smrti milujete kapely jako VENOM, KREATOR, CELTIC FROST, MAYHEM, SODOM, IRON MAIDEN, SABBATH, SLAYER? Potom jste stejného druhu jako já a "The Affair of the Poisons" se vám dostane po několika posleších doslova pod kůži. Připadá mi, že jsou HELLRIPPER v čím dál tím lepší formě. Ostřejší, jedovatější, uvěřitelnější. Ten tlak a energii by mohli prodávat. Perfektní zvuk, evokující nejlepší stylové nahrávky, ale hlavně velká porce nadšení, opravdovosti. Satan spokojeně pokyvuje hlavou, podupává si do rytmu a svět je najednou takový lepší, jestli mi rozumíte. Toulám se podzemím již přes třicet let, nejsem žádný mladík, který by se znovu dostával ke starým věcem. Já jsem si tohle všechno prožil a musím říci, že "The Affair of the Poisons" je skvělým albem po všech stránkách. Obdivuji obal, zase jednou vím, že peklo existuje. HELLRIPPER mě zakopali hluboko pod zem, rozervali na kusy. Kolem je dnes spousta mladých kapel, snažících se hrát  black a thrash metal postaru. Chybí jim ale to, co nám opět Mr. James McBain překládá se samozřejmostí a elegancí. Uvěřitelnost a velké kovové srdce. To se nedá ničím nahradit. Nalévám panáky všem démonům a mačkám play. Vynikající deska, u které shoříte na popel!

I have learned to travel through time in recent years. At least in music. I imagine drinking a poisonous potion that will take me back along the timeline. James McBain from the British HELLRIPPER is much like me. He is the only member of the band and can carry ancient black thrash metal techniques to this day. If you like honest metal with a dusty patina, don't hesitate for a moment. 

I wrote about HELLRIPPER a long time ago, we even have a short interview together (all below the article). Look, I know that similar bands have recently sprung up like mushrooms after rain, and 90% are worth for you knowing what. Usually I just listen to a few songs and go away. There is no time to waste when we have a new album "The Affair of the Poisons". Suddenly, I wander with friends in denim vests sometime in the late 1980s in a housing estate. Damn, it has grades! Metal dude!



I'm listening to a new record, I just came home from work and I feel like taking a hammer in my hand and going to destroy the nearest wall. Do you also love bands like VENOM, KREATOR, CELTIC FROST, MAYHEM, SODOM, IRON MAIDEN, SABBATH, SLAYER? Then we are the same and "The Affair of the Poisons" literally gets under your skin after a few hearings. It seems to me that HELLRIPPER are in better and better condition. Sharper, more poisonous, more believable. They could sell that pressure and energy. Perfect sound, evoking the best style recordings, but above all a large portion of enthusiasm, authenticity. Satan nods happily, stamping himself to the beat, and the world is suddenly better if you understand me. I have been wandering the underground for over thirty years, I am not a young man who is discovering old things. I've live all of this and I have to say that "The Affair of the Poisons" is a great album in all aspects. I admire the cover, once again I know that hell exists. HELLRIPPER buried me deep underground, tore me to pieces. There are a lot of young bands around today trying to play black and thrash metal. But they missing what Mr. James McBain present with obviousness and elegance. Credibility and a big metal heart. There is no substitute for anything. I pour shots for all demons and press the „play“ button An excellent album that will burn you to ashes!

Je hluboká černá noc, přesto mi připadá, že vidím jasně. Možná za to může napětí a chvění, které cítím v zádech. Staré pohřebiště hluboko v lesích vydalo další svědectví. O bolesti, o temných rituálech, o démonech, kteří jsou mezi námi. Tajemné symboly, které někdo vyřezal do kostí. Zaschlá krev. Kozlí hlava, naražená na kůl. Jsem najednou obětí rituální vraždy. Přímo součástí. Je mi odřezáváno maso od kostí, cítím, že můj čas nastal.

Pomalu, ale jistě, s otevřenou tepnou, odcházím na druhou stranu. Jako kulisu volím tentokrát finské death metalové komando SPIRITUAL HOLOCAUST. Oni jsou těmi, kdo mě pozval na tenhle rituál a já pozvání s chutí a nadšením přijal. Již od prvního setkání moc dobře vím, že podobná prokleté hudba mi koluje odnepaměti v žilách. 

 

"Echoes of the Apocalypse" je jasnou a zřetelnou odpovědí na death metal, který je navždy otisknut v našich duších. Na smrtící kov, který tvořily kapely jako ENTOMBED, ENTRAILS, CARNAGE, ale i třeba DEICIDE. Jedná se o vysokooktanovou zápalnou směs, u které se samovznítíte. SPIRITUAL HOLOCAUST navíc do své hudby přidávají kus melancholie, která je typickým poznávacím znakem finských smeček. Mohu s klidem podepsat vlastní krví, že jsou skladby velmi dobře napsány, drásají, žhnou a pálí a zároveň jsou chladné jako čepel nože. Pánové sice nepřinášejí do undergroundu nic nového, ani objevného. To ale neznamená, že by jejich deska nestála za pozornost. Naopak. Není jen obyčejným, zručně odvedeným řemeslem, ale má v sobě i notnou dávku zajímavých momentů. Album se opravdu velmi dobře poslouchá, má syrový zvuk, tlak a energii. Je příjemné trávit s ním dlouhé hodiny na starých pohřebištích, exhumovat prašivé rakve a nasávat podmanivě tajemnou atmosféru. Oltář od krve, na něm vaše lebka. Stačí pozvednout sekyru a přidat volume. Na jedné kosti je vyryté jméno SPIRITUAL HOLOCAUST. Teď už vím proč. Tahle deska totiž zabíjí na potkání!

It's a deep black night, yet I think I can see clearly. Maybe it's the tension and tremors I feel in my back. The old burial ground deep in the woods gave another testimony. About pain, about dark rituals, about demons who are among us. Mysterious symbols that someone carved into bones. Dry blood. Goat's head bumped against a stake. "Echoes of the Apocalypse" is a clear and distinct answer to death metal, which is forever imprinted in our souls. For the deadly metal created by bands like ENTOMBED, ENTRAILS, CARNAGE, but also DEICIDE. It is a high-octane inflammatory mixture in which you ignite spontaneously. In addition, SPIRITUAL HOLOCAUST adds a piece of melancholy to their music, which is a typical hallmark of Finnish packs. I can safely sign with my blood that the songs are very well written, scratched, glow and burn, and at the same time, they are as cold as a knife blade. Gentlemen do not bring anything new or discoverable into the underground. But that doesn't mean their record isn't worth the attention. On the contrary. It is not only an ordinary, skillfully done craft, but it also has a significant dose of interesting moments in it. The album listens really well, it has raw sound, pressure and energy. It's nice to spend long hours with him in old cemeteries, exhuming dusty coffins and soaking up the captivatingly mysterious atmosphere. Blood altar with your skull on it. Just raise your ax and add volume. The name SPIRITUAL HOLOCAUST is engraved on one bone. Now I know why. This record is killing rats!

Ve staré jeskyni hluboko v horách žije starodávná bestie. Připomíná ty, které ve svých dílech popisoval H.P. Lovercraft. Zlé a zákeřné. Když je potkáte, tak se ocitnete v mlhavém oparu, z kterého není úniku. Fascinováni tmou ji následujete do podzemí, kde se stanete postupně obětí. S hudbou ruských death metalistů DIG ME NO GRAVE je to hodně podobné. Nálada jejich desek vás také zavede do nekonečných močálů věčnosti.

Ne, nikdy se nevrátíte. Alespoň já jsem to tak měl a zažil. Poslouchat jejich nové album "Under the Pyramids" je pro mě pokaždé malou událostí. Hraje se zde totiž starý prašivý death metal staré školy. Se spoustou zajímavých momentů, tlakem a energií ve skladbách. Bestie se probudila!


Při poslechu "Under the Pyramids" si připadám jako za dob svého mládí v devadesátých letech, kdy světu vládly kapely jako OBITUARY, MERCYLESS, PESTILENCE (ale i finská a švédská death metalová škola). Zazní ale i thrash a black metalové pasáže. Je to umně namíchaný a ostře jedovatý koktejl pro všechny fanoušky, kteří ještě nezapomněli, jak má znít pravý ošklivý undergroundový metal. Myslím si, že se jim povedlo muzikou znázornit atmosféru díla H. P. Lovercrafta více než dobře. Rád a s chutí se vydávám na dlouhé výlety do podzemí a novou desku si beru pokaždé s sebou. Dodává mi sílu, je heavy, surová a zní jako ozvěny ze záhrobí. Pokaždé se nakonec dostanu do mokvajících močálů plných mrtvol. Pokud budete pečlivě "Under the Pyramids" poslouchat, tak mi dáte určitě za pravdu. Rusové citují ze starých death metalových učebnic jasně, zřetelně a s přehledem. Jsou nejen zručnými muzikanty, ale také dokáží navodit tu správnou pochmurnou náladu. Až narovnám prašivé kosti na hromadu, tak se vydám na další cestu. Bestie potřebuje čerstvé maso. Dokud zde budou kapely jako DIG ME NO GRAVE, tak nemám strach, že by někdy trpěla hladem. Old school death metal par excellence!

Listening to "Under the Pyramids" I feel like I was in my youth in the nineties when bands like OBITUARY, MERCYLESS, PESTILENCE (as well as Finnish and Swedish death metal schools) ruled the world. There will also be thrash and black metal passages. It is a skillfully mixed and sharply poisonous cocktail for all fans who have not yet forgotten what real ugly underground metal should sound like. I think that they managed to depict the atmosphere of H. P. Lovercraft's work more than well with the music. I like to go on long trips to the underground with pleasure and I always take a new record with me. It gives me strength, is heavy, raw and sounds like echoes from the grave. Every time I end up in a wet swamp full of corpses. If you listen to "Under the Pyramids" carefully, you will agree with me. The Russians quote from old death metal textbooks clearly, distinctly and clearly. They are not only skilled musicians, but they can also set the right gloomy mood. When I straighten the dusty bones into a pile, I will set out on the next journey. The beast needs fresh meat. As long as there are bands like DIG ME NO GRAVE, I'm not afraid that she would ever go hungry. Old school death metal par excellence!

Pamatuji si to, jako by to bylo včera. Hromady mrtvol. Vyděšených tváří, utrhaných rukou a nohou. Vše zmrzlé jako loutky v komických pózách. Právě jsem přežil další bitvu a připadám si jako ve zlém snu. Pochoduj a zemři! Jsi jen číslo, dávno mrtvý. Vyprávíš příběhy z fronty a stále se vracíš zpět. Veteráni z jedné z nesmyslných válek vzpomínají a v srdcích mají smutek. Náboj, co proletí hlavou, už žádný dopis domů. Dávno víš, jak vypadá peklo.

Death metalových kapel, které by doopravdy uměly znázornit hudbou ryzí, uvěřitelnou válku, příliš není. Ze skladeb musí být cítit oheň bitev, smrt musí být krutá a ošklivá. Jako řinčení zbraní. Jako povel k útoku, ze kterého se mnozí nevrátí. Skotští DEATH KOMMANDER si u mě získali zásluhy již demonahrávkou "Summer Offensive '18" z roku 2018. Letošní dlouhohrající album je potom dalším nástupcem a důkazem, že války jen tak neskončí.


Hudebně jsou DEATH KOMMANDER pokračovateli slavných bojovníků BOLT THROWER. Jedná se o hrubozrnný, valivý, drtící death metal staré školy, který připomíná buldozer hrnoucí před sebou hromadu lidských těl. Kdysi lidské bytosti jsou pohřbívány beze jména. Vzduchem se vznáší nenávist a vy si užíváte neskutečně nakažlivou atmosféru alba "Pro Patria Mori". Parádní zvuk, obal s obrazem, který vás přenese zpět do zákopů. Propracované válečné texty vše krásně doplňují a vy najednou znovu pochodujete na jistou smrt. Líbí se mi způsob, jakým pánové pracují s riffy, s nápady. Deska si mě ihned podmanila, získala na svoji stranu. Je jako starý černobílý dokument z bojů. Vyprávění těch, kteří šli na jistou smrt a přesto přežili. Skladby mají v sobě tradiční špinavý feeling devadesátých let. Jsou těžké, donutí vás neustále přidávat volume a zamyslet se nad tím, jak je vlastně válka nesmyslná. Pro mě je potom nejdůležitější, že se při poslechu opravdu cítím jako voják v poli. Bodáky nasadit a zaútočit. Zabít člověka. Dalšího, nadechnout se a znovu bodnout. Troufám si tvrdit, že "Pro Patria Mori" je skvělým počinem pro všechny fanoušky ryzího válečného death metalu. Do kostí mi proniká mráz a čekám na střelu, která mi brzy prolétne hlavou. Vynikající smrtící kov, u kterého se nebudete chtít vrátit z bojiště!

I remember it like it was yesterday. Piles of corpses. Scared faces, torn hands and feet. All frozen like puppets in comic poses. I just survived another battle and I feel like I'm in a bad dream. March and die! You're just a number, long dead. You tell stories from the queue and keep coming back. Veterans of one of the senseless wars remember and have sadness in their hearts. The bullet that flies through his head, no more letters to home. You know how hell looks like for a long time. 

There aren't many death metal bands that could really portray pure, believable war with music. The fire must fight the battles, death must be cruel and ugly. Like the clanking of weapons. As a command to attack, from which many will not return. The Scottish DEATH KOMMANDER gained their credit with us with the demo "Summer Offensive '18" from 2018. This year's full-length album is another successor and proof that the wars will not just end.


Musically, DEATH KOMMANDER are the successors of the famous BOLT THROWER fighters. It's a heavy, rolling, crushing old-school death metal that resembles a bulldozer piling up a pile of human bodies in front of it. Once human beings are buried without a name. Hatred floats in the air and you enjoy the incredibly contagious atmosphere of the album "Pro Patria Mori". Great sound, a cover with an image that will take you back to the trenches. Sophisticated war texts complement everything beautifully and you suddenly march again to a certain death. I like the way the gentlemen work with riffs, with ideas. The record immediately conquered me, got on its side. It's like an old black and white fighting documentary. Narratives of those who went to a certain death and yet survived. The songs have the traditional dirty feeling of the nineties. They're hard, forcing you to constantly add volume and think about how pointless war is. The most important thing for me then is that when I listen, I really feel like a soldier in the field. Deploy bayonets and attack. Kill a man. Next, inhale and stab again. I dare say that "Pro Patria Mori" is a great album for all fans of pure war death metal. Frost penetrates my bones and I wait for a bullet that will soon fly through my head. An excellent death metal that you won't want to return from the battlefield!

Nevím, čím to je, ale poslední roky vidím samé stíny. Občas si připadám jako kdyby mě probudili po dlouhých letech z hibernace a já chodil po světě a divil se tomu, kam jsme to jako druh dopracovali. Jsem návštěvníkem na své vlastní zničené planetě. Cizinec, který nerozumí řeči svého kmene. Proč jsou všichni napojeni na jednu síť a žijí raději tam než v realitě? Proč mají děti najednou prázdné pohledy? A proč mi všichni připomínají zombie? 

Možná je dnes svět divný, ale pořád tu ještě je hudba, která dokáže probudit moji fantazii. Již nějakou dobu poslouchám novou desku britských CRYPTIC SHIFT, která je pro mě takovým příjemným osvěžením. Technický thrash metal, kombinovaný s death metalem a spoustou progresivním prvků, se mi ihned usadil v žilách. Zajímavá nahrávka, již od prvního setkání.


"Visitations from Enceladus" je albem určeným pro lidi, co mají rádi objevování a jsou obdařeni velkým množstvím fantazie. Opravdu si připadám, jako bych se vrátil po dlouhé době na Zemi, která byla postižena apokalypsou. Pestré motivy, spousta zajímavých a neotřelých momentů, tajemno, chlad a odtažitost, to jsou hlavní prvky novinky. Pokud bychom potom chtěli tvorbu Britů k někomu přirovnat, volil bych kapely jako VOIVOD, ATHEIST, CYNIC, NOCTURNUS, SADUS, MARTYR a další hledače nových hudebních zákoutí. Hlavní pro mě ale není přirovnání k jiným, ale celkový dojem, který je výborný. Rád gurmánsky ochutnávám, jsem "vědcem", který na sebe nechává muziku působit. A CRYPTIC SHIFT mě nenechají ani chvilku v klidu. Skladby jsou vystavěny jako nějaké šílené kompozice, se spoustou až "nepříjemných" momentů, ale tak působí jen zpočátku. Jakmile se ponoříte do desky pořádně, tak oceníte jednotlivé nuance. Chce to ale čas a otevřenou mysl. "Visitations from Enceladus" je totiž nutné poslouchat pečlivě, pozorně a potom dojde k prozření. Alespoň tak to fungovalo u mě. Bonusem je potom trvanlivost. Jsem návštěvníkem na své vlastní zničené planetě. Se sluchátky na uších. Tentokrát už nikoho nepotřebuji, jenom tohle album. Vynikající záležitost!

And why does everyone remind me of zombies? 

The world may be weird today, but there is still music that can awaken my imagination. I have been listening to the new British CRYPTIC SHIFT record for some time now, which is such a pleasant refreshment for me. Technical thrash metal, combined with death metal and a lot of progressive elements, immediately settled in my veins. An interesting recording, from the first meeting.


"Visitations from Enceladus" is an album for people who love to discover and are blessed with a lot of imagination. I really feel like I'm back after a long time on Earth, which was affected by the apocalypse. Colourful motifs, lots of interesting and original moments, mystery, coldness and aloofness, these are the main elements of the novelty. If we then wanted to compare the work of the British to someone, I would choose bands like VOIVOD, ATHEIST, CYNIC, NOCTURNUS, SADUS, MARTYR and other seekers of new musical nooks. But the main thing for me is not a comparison to others, but the excellent overall impression. I like to taste gourmet, I am a "scientist" who lets music affect me. And CRYPTIC SHIFT won't leave me alone for a moment. The songs are built like some crazy compositions, with a lot of "unpleasant" moments, but they only seem so at first. Once you immerse yourself in the board properly, you will appreciate the individual nuances. But it takes time and an open mind. "Visitations from Enceladus" must be listened to carefully, and then there will be insight. At least that's how it worked for me. The bonus is durability. I am a visitor to my own destroyed planet. With headphones. I don't need anyone this time, just this album. Excellent affair!

Mrtvých bylo už příliš. Představovalo to obrovský problém. Krematoria jela nonstop a nad městem se vznášel nasládlý pach spáleného masa. Pak někoho napadlo využít kafilerii. Nelidské, říkáte? Ale líbilo by se vám překračovat mrtvá těla na ulicích? Stačilo pustit stroj na drcení kostí a každému se pomodlit na poslední cestu. Koneckonců, mnozí byli i za svého života jen prázdnými schránkami bez duše. Stačí, když se rozhlédnete kolem sebe.

Podobným, neméně krutým a ošklivým způsobem, vás rozseká i prvotina švédských maniaků CONSUMPTION. Je pod ní podepsána dvojice zkušených muzikantů, kteří moc dobře vědí, jak nás pohřbít zaživa.

 

CONSUMPTION lze stylově přirovnat ke starým deskách od CARCASS, EXHUMED, zazní ale i odkazy třeba na ENTOMBED, BOLT THROWER, floridskou a finskou death metalovou školu. Jako celek je "Recursive Definitions of Suppuration" přesně tím druhem masa odtrženého od kosti, který si dáte vždy s chutí a radostí. Parádní zvuk, obal, ale hlavně spousta krvavých nápadů dělají z desky nejen povinnost pro všechny hrobníky, ale i hudbu, u které budete přemýšlet o své vlastní smrti. Švédi jsou suroví, chladní, temní, nekompromisní a s ničím se moc nepářou. Jedná se o ryzí death metal ze staré školy, pro fanoušky rozkládajících se a zapáchajících ostatků, nechutných scén i pracovníky v kafilerii. Co na tom, že místo zvířat vozí hromady lidských těl? Humanita stranou, když se svět řítí do záhuby. Možná nám jednou všem sešijí obličeje, stejně jako na promo fotkách, ale troufám si tvrdit, že tuhle desku budu poslouchat ještě dlouho. Zlámala mi totiž všechny kosti v těle. Působí na mě jako srážka s plně naloženým náklaďákem. Energie, tlak, ale i spousta hnilobné atmosféry. "Recursive Definitions of Suppuration" je jako pocta devadesátým letům, jako poklona nad masovým hrobem. Vynikající surový death metal, který vám utrhne hlavu i s páteří!

But would you like to cross dead bodies on the streets? It was enough to turn on the bone crushing machine and pray to everyone on their last journey. After all, many of them were empty soulless boxes during their lifetime. All you have to do is look around. 

In a similar, no less cruel and ugly way, you will be chopped by the Swedish maniacs CONSUMPTION. It is signed by a pair of experienced musicians who know very well how to bury us alive.


CONSUMPTION can be compared in style to old records from CARCASS, EXHUMED, but there are also references to ENTOMBED, BOLT THROWER, Florida and Finnish death metal schools. As a whole, "Recursive Definitions of Suppuration" is exactly the kind of meat torn from the bone that you always eat with taste and joy. Great sound, cover, but most importantly a lot of bloody ideas make the record not only a duty for all gravediggers, but also music where you will think about your own death. Swedes are raw, cold, dark, uncompromising and don't waste time with anything. It is pure death metal from the old school, for fans of decaying and smelly remains, disgusting scenes and workers in the rendering plant. What about carrying piles of human bodies instead of animals? Humanity aside as the world plunges into ruin. Maybe they'll sew our faces together one day, just like in the promo photos, but I dare say I'll listen to this record for a long time. She broke all the bones in my body. It strikes me as a collision with a fully loaded truck. Energy, pressure, but also a lot of rotting atmosphere.
