Nad hřbitovem se vznáší mrazivá mlha. V márnici je ještě ticho, ale nebude to dlouho trvat a ozve se první nemrtvý. Těla přivezli teprve včera. Pomalu se stmívá a já poslouchám nové, druhé dlouhohrající album holandských CADAVER SHRINE. Tahle nahrávka má totiž stejně mrtvolnou atmosféru, jako staré hroby, kolem kterých právě procházím. Lidé již dávno zapomněli na krásu pohřbů do země a raději nechávají svoje prokleté duše spálit na popel. Peklu se ale stejně nevyhnou, to mi věřte.
Zde se jedná o klasiku, o tradiční průvod pochodující v rytmu nového alba. Rakev pomalu sjíždí do země, jakoby nikdo netušil, že nebožtík je ještě živý. Přijde se pomstít, vyleze z hrobu. Za zvuků "Into the Horrible Depths". Tohle je totiž přesně druh doom death metalu, který se hraje na starých pohřebištích. Do kostí se mi pomalu vkrádá chlad.
Jediným členem kapely je Maurice de Jong, jinak také Mories, který se volně inspiroval u kapel typu ASPHYX, BOLT THROWER, případně starých AUTOPSY. Přidal velkou porci svých nápadů i invence a výsledkem je album, které bude jednou skvělým soudtrackem i k vašemu pohřbu. Nemám žádných námitek proti zvuku, vše řeže a chladí jak má, líbí se mi i obal. Dalo by se také napsat, že po formální stránce je vše v nejlepším pořádku a vy se můžete v klidu soustředit na hudbu samotnou. Ta je pro mě osobně velmi návyková, shnilá a prašivá. Pokud jste někdy navštívili dávno opuštěné katakomby, asi víte, o čem píšu. Na prašivých kostrách jsou pevně upletené pavučiny a krysy tančí ve stínu. Odtud hudba CADAVER SHRINE přišla a sem patří. Nové album je velmi dobře napsáno, složeno a má v sobě spoustu zajímavých momentů. Je prostým faktem, že se mi postupně dostalo do krve i do podvědomí. Sedával jsem dlouhé hodiny ve své hrobce, četl si ve starých spisech. Nasával jsem pach hniloby, takový ten těžko definovatelný odér, který umí jen dobré kapely. Jsem moc rád, že jsem na svých toulkách podsvětím tohoto holandského tmáře potkal. Pohybujeme se samozřejmě po celou dobu poslechu hluboko v podzemí a zde, jak je všeobecně známo, platí trošku jiná pravidla, než na světle. Mories sice nepřináší nic nového do záhrobí, ale to mi nijak nevadí. Naopak, užívám si pochmurné nálady, kývám se spokojeně do rytmu a rozmlouvám s nemrtvými. Pokud to máte podobně jako já a tahle odrůda smrti se vám líbí, neváhejte ani chvilku. Dostanete poctivou porci zahnívajícího masa. Nad hřbitovem se vznáší mrazivá mlha. Doom death metalový obřad pro vyvolávání duší nemrtvých!

A frosty mist hovers over the cemetery. The morgue is still quiet, but it won't be long before the first undead is heard. The bodies were brought in only yesterday. It is slowly getting dark and I am listening to the new, second long-playing album of the Dutch CADAVER SHRINE. This record has the same dead atmosphere as the old graves I'm passing by. People have long forgotten the beauty of burying themselves in the ground and prefer to let their damned souls burn to ashes. They won't escape hell anyway, believe me.
This is a classic, a traditional procession marching to the beat of a new album. The coffin slowly descends into the ground, as if no one knew the deceased was still alive. He's coming for revenge, he's coming out of the grave. To the sound of "Into the Horrible Depths". This is exactly the kind of doom death metal that's played in old burial grounds. A chill is slowly creeping into my bones.
The only member of the band is Maurice de Jong, otherwise known as Mories, who was freely inspired by bands like ASPHYX, BOLT THROWER or the old AUTOPSY. He added a big portion of his own ideas and inventiveness and the result is an album that will be a great soudtrack for your funeral one day. I have no objections to the sound, everything cuts and chills as it should, I like the cover too. You could also write that formally everything is in the best order and you can focus on the music itself. I personally find it very addictive, rotten and dusty. If you've ever visited the long-abandoned catacombs, you probably know what I'm writing about. There are tightly knit cobwebs on the grimy skeletons and rats dancing in the shadows. That's where CADAVER SHRINE's music came from and where it belongs. The new album is very well written, composed and has a lot of interesting moments in it. It is a simple fact that it has gradually made its way into my blood and subconscious. I used to sit in my tomb for long hours, reading through old writings. I used to take in the smell of rot, that hard-to-define odor that only good bands can. I'm so glad I met this Dutch darkie on my wanderings through the underworld. Of course, we move deep underground during the whole listening time and here, as it is generally known, slightly different rules apply than in the light. Mories may not bring anything new to the underworld, but that doesn't bother me in the least. On the contrary, I'm enjoying the somber mood, swaying contentedly to the beat and talking to the undead. If you're like me and like this variety of death, don't hesitate a moment. You'll get a fair portion of rotting flesh. There's a freezing fog hovering over the cemetery. A doom death metal ritual to summon the souls of the undead!
