Jakmile se setmí, tak se ocitneš v podivném stavu mezi spánkem a bděním. Běžíš tmou a ze stěn se k tobě natahují kostnaté ruce. Zasekávají do tebe ostré drápy, tančíš na střepech. Mozek se ti vaří ve vlastní šťávě, aby ses nakonec doplazil do cíle. Smrt je velmi blízko, vnímáš její dech. Veškerý vztek, frustrace, strach i bolest si neseš s sebou jako těžký kříž. Děsivá říše snů tě přivítá a obejme do pevných pavučin. Bůh spánku Hypnos sedí na svém trůnu a staneš se jeho poddaným.

PANDEMIA se vrací po dlouhých deseti letech a zároveň slaví třicet let na scéně. Nutno rovnou dodat, že se jedná o návrat ve velkém stylu. Kapela má svůj vlastní a jasně rozpoznatelný styl, výraz, který je postaven na pevných old school death metalových základech. Je až neuvěřitelné, v jaké formě pánové jsou. Pro mě, starého fanouška, se jedná samozřejmě o srdcovou záležitost. Nejdříve chvilku vzpomínám u starých kazet z konce devadesátých let minulého století, abych se posunul postupně v čase a zařadil si album "Darkened Devotion" mezi nejposlouchanější nahrávky poslední doby. Je v ní totiž obsaženo vše, co mám na tomhle stylu rád. Brutalita, temnota a chlad i skvěle odvedené řemeslo.

Když se hlouběji ponoříte do historie téhle smečky, tak zjistíte, že vystupovala na stejných pódiích jako MORBID ANGEL, VADER i DEATH (na které jsem kdysi dávno pařil pod pódiem i já). Kolem jejich morbidní cesty leží vybělené kosti mršin a i když tahle skupina rozhodně netrpí nadprodukcí, tak každé album má i po letech velkou sílu. Novinka jejich silnou pozici v záhrobí jenom potvrzuje. Po řemeslné stránce je vše v nejlepším pořádku, zvuk je masivní a řeže tou správnou stranou nože (mix, mastering - Miguel Tereso, Demigod Recordings). Motiv na obalu mě zase volně inspiroval k úvodu dnešní recenze. Autorem je vynikající malíř Giovanni Ponziano. Vše, poctivé řemeslo a zkušenosti i talent, se zde spojilo s pradávnou touhou zabíjet hudbou. Výsledkem je nahrávka, která vás smete z povrchu zemského. Je po okraj narvaná skvělými nápady, zabalená do moderněji znějící produkce, která kapele sedne jako mrtvému rakev. Fanoušci třeba takových VOMITORY, VADER, SINISTER, PESTILENCE, IMMOLATION, SUFFOCATION, by určitě měli zbystřit svoji pozornost. Hraje se zde totiž opravdově, uvěřitelně, autenticky. Od srdce a toho si cením na nové desce asi nejvíce. Potom také celkové podmanivé, drásavé atmosféry. "Darkened Devotion" se vám opravdu dostane postupně do podvědomí, zadře se hluboko do vaší hlavy, stane se vaším průvodcem v nekonečné říši snů. Když se potom probudíte do ještě krutější reality, nezbyde vám nic jiného, než přidat hlasitost na samou hranu bolesti. Jakmile se setmí, tak se ocitneš v podivném stavu mezi spánkem a bděním. Běžíš tmou a ze stěn se k tobě natahují kostnaté ruce. Zasekávají do tebe ostré drápy, tančíš na střepech. Syrový, masakrující, temný a chladný death metal, který se stane vaší děsivou noční můrou! Morbidní zásah přímo do podvědomí!

As soon as it gets dark, you find yourself in a strange state between sleep and wakefulness. You run through the darkness, and bony hands reach out to you from the walls. Sharp claws digging into you, dancing on the rooftops. Your brain boils in its own juices to finally crawl to the finish line. Death is very close, you feel its breath. PANDEMIA returns after ten long years and celebrates thirty years on the scene. It should be added that this is a return in style. The band has its own distinct and clearly recognizable style, an expression that is built on solid old school death metal foundations. It's unbelievable what kind of shape the gentlemen are in. For me, an old fan, this is obviously a matter of the heart. I first take a moment to reminisce with old tapes from the late 90's, only to gradually move back in time and place "Darkened Devotion" among the most listened to records of recent times. It contains everything I love about this style. Brutality, darkness and coldness as well as great craftsmanship.

If you dig deeper into the history of this pack, you'll find that they performed on the same stages as MORBID ANGEL, VADER and DEATH (which I used to party under the stage a long time ago). Bleached out carcass bones lie around their morbid journey, and while this band certainly doesn't suffer from overproduction, each album still packs a punch years later. The new one only confirms their strong position in the afterlife. Craft-wise, everything is in the best order, the sound is massive and cuts with the right side of the knife (mix, mastering - Miguel Tereso, Demigod Recordings). The motif on the cover again freely inspired me to start today's review. The author is the excellent painter Giovanni Ponziano. Everything here, honest craft and experience and talent, is combined with the ancient desire to kill with music. The result is a recording that will sweep you off the face of the earth. It's packed to the brim with great ideas, wrapped in a more modern sounding production that fits the band like a dead coffin. Fans of the likes of VOMITORY, VADER, SINISTER, PESTILENCE, IMMOLATION, SUFFOCATION should definitely keep their attention. The playing here is real, believable, authentic. From the heart, and that's what I appreciate most about the new album. Then also the overall captivating, poignant atmosphere. "Darkened Devotion" really gets into your subconscious gradually, burrows deep into your head, becomes your guide in the endless realm of dreams. Then, when you wake up to an even harsher reality, you have no choice but to turn up the volume to the very edge of pain. Once it gets dark, you'll find yourself in a strange state between sleep and wakefulness. You run through the darkness and bony hands reach out to you from the walls. Sharp claws digging into you, dancing on the rooftops. Raw, butchering, dark and cold death metal that will become your terrifying nightmare! A morbid hit straight to the subconscious!
