Venku se setmělo a já ještě nechtěl jít spát. Protože když usnu, tak se ztratím ve zlých snech a potom se probudím do ještě horší reality. Raději jsem se dál toulal mezi náhrobky a četl si jména na hrobech. Krátký život plný utrpení, stálo na jednom. Na dalším se jako košatý strom rozprostíral složitý rodokmen. Je vlastně jedno, kým jsme byli a budeme. Nakonec všichni zemřeme. Jenom ve smrti jsme si rovni. Vzadu, pokrytá břečťanem, stojí opuštěná hrobka s nápisem AS THE SEA PARTS. Chvíli váhám, je už opravdu tma, ale nakonec vstupuji dovnitř.
Jedná se o smečku, jejíž kořeny sahají do roku 1995. Následující rok po svém založení pánové z Virginie nahráli jednu demonahrávku "Trilogy of Sorrow". Doporučuji vám, abyste si ji poslechli, je volně dostupná. Budete mít potom celkový obraz o kapele kompletní. Následovaly dlouhé roky nečinnosti, kdy byla hrobka zavřená a rozprostíralo se kolem ní ticho. Až letos, po hibernaci, vydává tahle smečka nové, dlouhohrající (a zároveň debutové) album.
Také máte rádi ranní mlhu nad hřbitovem? Takový ten plazivý chlad, tichý šepot nemrtvých? Také jste vyrůstali a setkávali jste se s hudbou poprvé v devadesátých letech minulého století? Potom jste zde správně. Tvorba AS THE SEA PARTS má sobě přesně tu patinu dávných časů, poctivost, talent, touhu rozdrásat vás do krve. Nutno rovnou dodat, že se to kapele daří na výbornou. Pokud pominu skvělý chladný a dobře čitelný zvuk (Kyle Johnson), pokud se oprostím od motivu na obalu, který namaloval jeden z mých nejoblíbenějších umělců v undergroundu - Mark Riddick, tak zůstane na kost ohlodaný death metal se spoustou melodických prvků, s doomově zastřenou atmosférou. Když jsem kdysi před lety svoje stránky zakládal, tak alba jako "Psychosis" jsou, byla a budou těmi, které chci podporovat. Hudba zde má totiž v sobě něco navíc. Srdce, vášeň, těkavý chlad, temnotu, naléhavost. Zkrátka a dobře, kapele věřím každý tón, každou notu, každý úder bicích. Navíc mě novinka opravdu baví poslouchat. Jedná se o záležitost pro chvíle, kdy se potřebujete v dnešním chaotickém, podivném a neosobním světě zastavit. Nová nahrávka se stala po nějaké době spíše osobní záležitostí, soukromou seancí, krásou usínajícího dne, než jen obyčejným poslechem. Jsem moc rád, že kapela tohle album vydala. Je totiž po okraj narvané skvělými nápady, zastřeně podmanivou atmosférou, bolestí, strachem i pradávnou silou nemrtvých. Venku se setmělo a já ještě nechtěl jít spát. It was getting dark outside, and I didn't want to go to sleep yet. Because when I fall asleep, I get lost in bad dreams and then wake up to an even worse reality. I preferred to wander among the gravestones and read the names on the graves. A short life full of suffering, it said on one. On another, a complex family tree spread out like a spreading tree. It doesn't really matter who we were or who we will be. In the end, we all die. Only in death are we equal. In the back, covered in ivy, stands an abandoned tomb with the inscription AS THE SEA PARTS. I hesitate for a moment, it's really dark now, but finally I go inside.
This is a band whose roots date back to 1995. The following year after its founding, the gentlemen from Virginia recorded a demo called Trilogy of Sorrow. I recommend you listen to it, it's freely available. You'll then have a complete picture of the band. This was followed by long years of inactivity, when the tomb was closed and silence spread around it. Only this year, after hibernation, is this band releasing a new, full-length (and debut) album.
Do you also like the morning fog over the cemetery? That creeping cold, the quiet whisper of the undead? Did you also grow up and encounter music for the first time in the 1990s? Then you've come to the right place. AS THE SEA PARTS' work has exactly that patina of ancient times, honesty, talent, and a desire to tear you to pieces. It must be said right away that the band does an excellent job of this. If I ignore the great cold and clear sound (Kyle Johnson), if I detach myself from the cover art, which was painted by one of my favorite underground artists, Mark Riddick, what remains is bone-gnawing death metal with lots of melodic elements and a doom-laden atmosphere. When I started my website years ago, albums like "Psychosis" were, are, and will be the ones I want to support. The music here has something extra. Heart, passion, volatile coldness, darkness, urgency. In short, I believe every tone, every note, every drum beat of this band. What's more, I really enjoy listening to the new album. It's something for those moments when you need to pause in today's chaotic, strange, and impersonal world. After a while, the new recording became more of a personal matter, a private session, the beauty of a day falling asleep, rather than just ordinary listening. I'm very glad the band released this album. It's packed to the brim with great ideas, a veiled captivating atmosphere, pain, fear, and the ancient power of the undead. It was dark outside, and I didn't want to go to sleep yet. Because when I fall asleep, I get lost in bad dreams and then wake up to an even worse reality. I preferred to continue wandering among the tombstones and reading the names on the graves. A cold and dark, melodic doom death metal ceremony, a memorial service for pain! You will be torn to pieces from the inside!
