Nikdy si nevěřil v Boha. Na to si viděl a zažil až příliš bolesti. Přesto poklekneš na zem a odříkáváš slova své soukromé modlitby. Byl si v zajetí, zažil si mráz, utrpení, zabili spoustu tvých přátel. Chceš jediné. Vrátit se domů, jen si tak sednout a dívat se na svoje blízké, kteří se usmívají. Kolem tebe zuří válka a ty přemýšlíš, kde se v lidech bere tolik zla? V duši se ti usadilo napětí, takový ten zvláštní neklid, kteří v sobě mají všichni, kdo se bojí smrti.
Ukrajinští tmáři 1914 jsou zpět na bojišti. Se svým čtvrtým dlouhohrajícím albem se vrací ke svým kořenům. Novinka mi přijde surovější, ostřejší, nekompromisní. Chladný black metal se zde potkává s doomovými náladami a death metalovou hnilobou. "Viribus Unitis", přeloženo také jako „Se spojenými silami“ je nejen slavný výrok starého mocnáře Františka Josefa I., ale také jakýmsi mementem všech, kteří se vrátili z války domů. Přežili, přesto ji mají navěky v sobě.
Pamatuji si ještě matně svého pradědu, který První světovou válku zažil. Byl jsem dítě a přesto jsem jeho vyprávění vždycky fascinovaně poslouchal. Spoustu věcí mi došlo až později, když jsem dospěl. Přišel v zákopech o nohu a měl v očích takovou zvláštní bolest. V hudbě 1914 lze vystopovat to samé. Přiznávám, že jsem se tentokrát dostával do novinky trošku déle, než u předchozích nahrávek, ale vyplatilo se vydržet. Jako bych se přenesl opravdu někam na bojiště, kde se všichni musí spojit, aby čelili hrozbě a smrti. Novinka je o sounáležitosti, o opravdovém kamarádství, o síle, kterou v sobě někteří mají. Je až děsivé, že se toho příliš nezměnilo. Lidé jsou stále stejní. Vypadá to, že nás toho historie příliš nenaučila. "Viribus Unitis" je opět velmi temnou, uvěřitelnou záležitostí. Jedná se o hudbu, které můžete věřit. Je autentická, opravdová, zahraná s velkým srdcem. Album mě natolik pohltilo, že jsem se stal přímo účastníkem bojů, cítil jsem mráz ve svých kostech, viděl jsem kamarády, jejich mrtvoly, pohozené u cesty. Musel jsem jít dál, abych přežil, abych se mohl vrátit domů, jen tak si sednout a dívat se jak mi vyrůstají děti. V nové desce je obsažena jakási těžko definovatelná bolest, kterou my, kteří jsme měli to štěstí a válku jsme nezažili na vlastní kůži, možná ani neumíme pochopit. Buďme za to rádi. Tahle nahrávka je o síle, o obyčejném lidském hrdinství. Přiznám se, že o ní stále hodně přemýšlím. Navíc se mi líbí zvuk, motiv na obalu i celkové provedení. Nikdy si nevěřil v Boha. Ukrainian dark lords 1914 are back on the battlefield. With their fourth full-length album, they return to their roots. The new album seems rawer, sharper, uncompromising to me. Cold black metal meets doom moods and death metal decay. "Viribus Unitis", also translated as "With United Forces", is not only a famous saying of the old monarch Franz Joseph I, but also a kind of memento for all those who returned home from the war. They survived, yet they carry it within them forever.
I vaguely remember my great-grandfather, who lived through World War I. I was just a child, but I always listened to his stories with fascination. I only understood many things later, when I grew up. He lost his leg in the trenches and had a strange pain in his eyes. The same can be traced in the music of 1914. I admit that this time it took me a little longer to get into the new album than with previous recordings, but it was worth the wait. It was as if I had been transported to a battlefield where everyone must unite to face danger and death. The new album is about solidarity, true friendship, and the strength that some people have within them. It's scary how little has changed. People are still the same. It seems that history hasn't taught us much. "Viribus Unitis" is once again a very dark, believable affair. It's music you can trust. It's authentic, genuine, played with a big heart. The album absorbed me so much that I became a direct participant in the fighting, I felt the chill in my bones, I saw my friends, their corpses, lying by the roadside. I had to keep going to survive, so I could return home, just sit and watch my children grow up. The new album contains a kind of pain that is difficult to define, which those of us who were lucky enough not to experience war firsthand may not even be able to understand. Let's be glad for that. This recording is about strength, about ordinary human heroism. I admit that I still think about it a lot. I also like the sound, the cover art, and the overall production. You never believed in God. You saw and experienced too much pain for that. Yet you kneel on the ground and recite the words of your private prayer. You were in captivity, you experienced frost, suffering, many of your friends were killed. You want only one thing. To return home, just sit and watch your loved ones smile.
